Smile Installing Java Games on HPE - SOLUTION!!

After hours upon hours of banging secret codes into my Samsung SGH-P310 (HPE platform) looking for another secret Java menu that would allow me to install Java games from the filesystem ... I have found the code that works for the P310 ... and hopefully will work for many of the other HPE platforms you are all using where the *#9998*5282* secret Java menu has only two menu items i.e. the "Install Midlet" option is missing.

For the P310, I have found that if you type in the following code ...

*#9998*52824678255#

... you get a message that just says "Activated".

(BTW, the code above equates to typing in "*#9998*javainstall#").

If you then view (click on, open, etc) a .jad file on the filesystem it opens the file (similar as when you access a .jad from WAP) showing the details with the option to install ... previously it would just say "unsupported file type" when I did this.

I have managed to install two games in this way by just having the .jar and .jad files in the same file directory and viewing the .jad and selecting "install".

Typing the code again comes up with "Deactivated" and the install option goes away. Plus I found when I switch my phone off and back on, it goes back to the default of deactivated ... and you have to re-enter the code.

I really do hope that this code works for a lot of you out there that have different Samsung HPE platfoms too (not just the P310 owners).

Now maybe someone can help me with the last part of my quest. I started out on this trying to get DoomRPG installed on my P310 phone. After many attempts using WAP, I always got the same problem. The game downloads 100% but then I get the following error:

"Java Error. Content does not match application."

After finally finding the code above which meant I did not have to keep copying the game files to a WAP server ... I still get the exact same error when trying to install DoomRPG from the filesystem ... DOH!!!

If anyone can help with why I get this Java error then that would be great. The game is MIDP 2.0 compatable and so is the P310.

Any ideas/help would be very welcome.

hi there, thanks for the code and your own personel breakthrough..the code says activated on my p310 handset but i am curious which part of the phones file system i should put my .jar games in ?? i have one at present in the OTHER section but i dont get the option to open it as it says unsupported file format?? also all my games etc are .jar not .jad. is this a problem...due to the funny keypad/touch screen on the p310 i would assume some games wont work on it ....thanks

Thumbs up RE: Installing Java Games on HPE - SOLUTION!!

Hi there,

I used the "other files" folder too on the phone memory. You can only install a game from a .jad file though (which is just a text file with some settings in it).

If you don't have the .jad file for the game, either:

1. Try just extracting the manifest.mf file from the .jar file (you can do this
using WinZip) and rename it to the same name as your .jar file but with
the .jad extension. e.g. game.jar >> game.jad

... or if this does not work:

2. Get hold of a program called "JadMaker" which is free to download. You
just run it, drag your .jar file onto its window, and it creates a .jad file for
you in the same folder as your .jar file.

Regards

I think it depends on the game and whether it is built for the MIDP 2.0 platform or for an earlier Java platform.

I have found less success installing older MIDP 1.0 games.

Glad you're up and running.

Thanks Javabug for the tip. I tried installing Tetris Mania using JadMaker and it worked (YAY!!). However, when I've loaded more jar/jad files to my phone and tried to install them, I got a java error message - I/O exception. I could still view the jad files but got that error when trying to install. I even deleted Tetris and tried installing it again but go the same msg. So devastated... please help!!

so you were able to install some games, and they run ?

if thats the case i guess the phone simply can't handle "big" games like the sims and cod. ..
i never tried big ones like that

I would be happy to do so if you provide them to me

Thumbs up Work on D840

Thanks Javabug !

I typed the code you provided on my D840 and it worked
The games (listed as e900 compatible on www.getjar.com) installed with no problems from "other files".
Turned off, turned on ...
The games still worked !

(As you wrote, one then have to type the code again)

Thanks again

Phone: Samsung X680V
Thanks, it worked like a charm on my Samsung SGH-X680V (Vodafone)

It's so simple:
Quote:
1) Type in the code *#9998*52824678255# (which reads *#9998*JAVAINSTALL# )
2) Your phone should return with 'Activated'
3) Now using Bluetooth or USB cable, connect to your phone (IR probably works too)
4) If you have a game as .jar, but don't have a .jad file, use JadMaker to create one (draw the .jar file to it and it will generate a .jad file for you).
5) Copy the .jar AND .jad file of the game into the map called "Other Documents" on your phone.
6) Now on your phone under 'My Files' browse to the 'Other Documents' map and doubleclick on the just copied .jad file.
7) The phone will ask you if you want to Install the game.
8) After Install you will find the game under Games on your phone.
9) You can now remove the just copied .jar and .jad file again (they were only there to install the game onto your phone).
Some tips:
  • Make sure the game resolution matches the display resolution of your phone
(e.g. my Samsung X680V has a resolution of 128x160, which means 240x320 or 176x220 games will only show part of the screen, while 128x128 are playable, but only fill top part of the screen).
  • Still not all games will work, some are specifically written for a certain brand or OS.
It's all a matter of trial and error.
  • If you doubleclick on the .jad file on your phone and it doesn't ask you if you want to 'install', it's time to give in the code again (it seems it's not a permanent setting).
  • You can use an emulator to test the games on your PC. You can then also determine the resolution of the game by playing it. In the emulator, it's best to choose a model which matches the resolution of your own phone so you can see the result.
Some emulators:(Maybe the tips sound a bit noobish, however it may help others)

On E490 (firmware E490XFGB1 and probably similar others, where *#9998*5282# produces only two options, Library info & Native info), proceed as in the first post but type *#9998*4678255# (*#9998*INSTALL#) as the password.

Samsung D520

I have one of these phones, a few comments....

1) Want to install JAVA like everyone else but still banging away trying to work it out. No solution yet, so dont bother asking again and again, just keep searching these, and other forums each day and trying things yourself. This phone has HPE, so go serch for all other phones with HPE and try their codes and variations. I have found these codes and the results....
(BTW, JBled Info I believe is a typo and should be JBLend Info as seen a bit deeper into that secret menu!!)

*2767*667# MMS RESET
*2767*36245# email RESET

These JAVA codes for other phones do not work:
*#9998*52824678255# Incorrect Entry
*#8999*8378# Incorrect Entry

Im pretty happy with the phone, but would have liked an expandable memory slot, and I really do not like the charger/data cable connector, I think it could be broken very easily! But for the price, it is very good and quite an intuative, easy to use phone with lots of features.

Installing Java games on E900 . . . WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!

I have transferred both the JAD and the JAR files for the game into 'other docs' have entered the *#9998*5282# code, clicked on install midlet, entered the password, my JAD and JAR files are in the folder it brings up, i click install, 'yes'......... and nothing happens!!

Whats going on here... the game is mafia wars (is it that this game is not compatable? i wouldn't know!) ive also tried another random game with the same process.... both don't work!

Is there any code for X830 ? With *#9998*5282# gives 2 options and with *#9998*javainstall# or *#9998*install# gives error code... Any idea?

Java unlock for Samsung SGH-u600

Hey guys, I just had to sign up to share this with you:
Code:
The unlock code for Samsung SGH-u600 is:
*#9998*4678255#

(*#9998*install#)
Then add the .jar and .jad files to your phone's other files folder, click "options" on the .jad file and it will ask you whether or not to install. It installs then asks you whether or not to open it. Do whatever you wish and feel free to remove the two files from the other files folder.

Hope this helps someone

one more thing: javabug do you have some apps and games (but mostly apps) especially for the p310's 320x240 pixels rezolution?
i've noticed that there are some java apps that work in full screen mode on any rezolution... anyways, give me some tips, some names. i really like the landscape mode of the p310 and i don't want to spoil it with java that doesn't match

big thanks !

Alphonse try to find the name of your phone's platform and from there on it's simple.
isac_silva don't forget to put both .jar and .jad files. you should heave read the previous posts before asking. if this doesn't word then the app you're trying to install is not compatible with Samsung.

Again i ask :

hi,
I tried this and the first part went well. I got the "Activated" message right after I keyed in the code. But then, when I open the .jad file, it would say "Java error: Illegal argument". What seems to be the problem? I tried opening other games and got the same message.

I was so excited that I could finally install the mobile ebook reader on my E570 but when I open its .jad file, it would say "Content too large". It's only about 400kb and all the apps on the Java folder doesn't even come up to 1mb yet.

Help me plz guys..thanks.

I think the max size is 300kb. Look for E720 or E530 compatible games. They should work on E570.
