Well they could now officially announce Store 2.0 but only open it in March.

I'm assuming it's something big with Ovi so perhaps an acquisition of some sort? Like buying Spotify, Last.fm, pandora or some other music streaming service like apple has. Streaming music services seems to be getting more popular and acquiring one of these companies and rolling it into Ovi Music, or CWM would perhaps help get their services unit headed into the right direction.

This couple of years is all about Nokia trying to catch up others. That's not a good position. They need something where they can be number 1 again. So, better for Nokia to be something good.

Edit: Btw, they said they'll stop with announcing services (and devices?) when they're not still ready. I can't remember when they exactly said that but i know it was last year. So, it's something like if they announce it, it shouldn't be long before it's really accessible/available. I wonder if that's going to be the case in Thursday.

Im more interested in implementation of Qt in n900.
And some sort of official announcement of portrait mode coming to n900.

TBH, nokia's services never really took off.

Qt is already in N900 and 90% sure you won't see full portrait ever in N900 other than if you can update to it Maemo 6.

This is the countdown flash-banner from Nokia:

And this seems to appear after the counter has expired:

I am trying to get the URLs behind these two links... maybe there is ...
Is anybody familiar with decompiled ressources of SWF?

Btw. the countdown time is set via a parameter xml-file.
How about playing around with an other param-file to re-set the countdown time!?

How bizarre, I haven't had an invite or anything

I'm really quite confused

This will be very interesting though, I highly doubt this is JUST an OVI Store announcement.

Awesome_Aleks, hahahaha.
So, Nokia reads Mobile-review, welcome, you should say something, don't be shy.
Edit: Even Eldar is invited.
It seems, some (or all) guys with over 1500 posts are "invited". Interesting.

LOL Guys calm down, don't start spamming the forum

I just got an email actually

The invitations aren't linked to post count, I think they're to do with WOM World, ie a PR division of Nokia. I have trialled a few devices through them and it seems that they want a few of us to attend

Must be something interesting going on, I'll certainly be there.

Only community supported Qt.. Nokia supported Qt should come with maemo 6 and fully replace the hildon interface

Aye but at least it's there. Hopefully we get to see a bit more complex Qt apps with 4.6 because the current ones are pretty simple.

I think, tomorrows event has got to do something with the booklet 3g. Ive not heard of it since its announcement.

I don't know what I did specifically but I got another email early this morning (which I wasn't awake to send a reply back immediately )

They are having a Q&A session a little later and invited a few people to it

Nokia have some news to share on Thursday 21st January. We?re not able
to tell you more at this time, but this is news that will make a real
difference to how people use their mobile devices.
I wonder if this is maybe some sort of syncing service that uploads EVERYTHING on a phone up to a server to be downloaded and backed up onto any other Nokia device

It's starting to get quite exciting for me, I don't know if devices will be there but it seems the star of the show will be some exciting new services.

That would be awesome, and a massive motivator towards Nokia devices. Fits in with everything as well

Would stop the Navigator devices (well...the 6710 mainly) dead in their tracks however

In a simple step, Nokia have just completely killed the standalone GPS industry as far as I am concerned.

And they have brought themselves a good hand for the general mobile industry. I didn't think Nokia were making that much money off their Maps and I'm sure the money they will get from selling a ton of devices will more then make up for that.

I'm now highly considering selling my Aino...When I get it back

That is HUGE! Truly a great announcement.

I live in Ireland and Nokia(Ovi) maps is by far the best one out of Garmin XT, Tomtom, Navigon, Sygic, NDrive. The most detailed, up to date and I love the interface.

I love this trend, Thank you Nokia! and Thank you Google and Apple for pushing the industry forward this much.

There will still be a market for standalone devices because they have bigger screens but still, this move will almost push standalone devices into niche.

What's scary about that article is that Nokia might be doing writedown from Navteq when they report Q4 data. Hmm might sell rest of the Nokia stocks when i'm still nicely in the positive side

New Nokia phone to be launched on 26 January

Quote:
Pocket-lint can reveal that Nokia is to unveil a new mobile phone on Tuesday 26 January - just a day ahead of Apple's media event which promises a tablet device and possible iPhone news.

The launch has been confirmed to Pocket-lint by Nokia's UK boss Mark Loughran at the press event that saw the announcement of free Ovi Maps navigation for Nokia smartphones.

Although we can reveal news of the launch, Nokia's public relations staff stepped in to stop Loughran from unveiling any more details about the new phone.

I would expect something special, N97 is a bit old now and N97 Mini is not a successor, maybe a new flagship device?

Now we're talking. Nokia is on a roll. Hopefully it will be something big. This also confirms that the iPhone will be showcased on 27th. Since that can be the only reason why Nokia is makin an announcement just a day before the Apple announcement.

Yeah, usually if it is not related to any 3rd party event, Nokia released many products on Thursdays.

Wow maybe the E64 gets released or what ever name tag they put it!

Just not confident that they would release any super Symbian phone before MWC(if they even got one coming in close future), not to evet talk about Maemo. Hopefully i'm wrong.

Day before big Apple announcement is really interesting. We know already that Apple is going to announce its tablet and iPhone OS 4.0 and that's going to produce a hell of a lot of hype (think: Engadget and similar ones), so if you want to steal that hype what's the only thing you can do? Announce something even better?
Because everything else is going to vanish in all the hype of the Apple biased blogs and journalists.

To make better annoucements it has to make better than the new LG which will be released sometime in 2010 that has a 1280x720 LCD, 720p video and WinMo 7 Media Player.

I hope Nokia announces SF^3 & 4 devices with such capabilities and 64Gb flash or else 2010 mobiles will eat Nokia phones

Here's Qt 4.6 running in different Symbian devices and in Maemo. Qt 4.6 should be here in the next Maemo 5 update and much improved over 4.5 in graphics and performance.
