N90 matches N70 and N91 matches N71.. N72 kinda ok with N72

but N80 matches N70 ok.. N83 with N73 and N93
N81 and N82??

Talking

ok according to my observation..
N9x series focused in one area Example music or camera
N8x series is all in one phone.. small in size
N7x series carries the outdated specs of N8x or cheaper package

Phone looks good, specs a little off, but I can see the 5Mpx being real. Remember that the N80 had 3 MPx (ok no CZ) but it was the 1st Nokia phone to breach the 3Mpx barrier!

Otherwise pretty much what you would expect from the upgrade of the N80. I agree with you alexandr3 that the N81 could be a clam, the only thing against this is that Nokia may dedicate the N8x line to sliders. More than likely the N81 and N82 are similar to the N72 in that it is a variant on the N80.

But I hope people do not get hung up over this phone and not buy a phone now if they need one. This will take a little while to come out so do not hang about and wait for a phone!!!!

I was aware of that
But considering the n80 is such an upmarket product, it should (IMO) have a life cycle of at least a year. It just doesnt seem realisitic.
Also, being a N-series, i dont think the price will be lowered significantly to make room for the n83 either.

crazyze, yup correct!

I think the N9x is targeted at top of the line. First with HD, first with Carl Zeiss, First with DVB-H and First with DVD quality video.
N8x is more niche market, supporting all specs in one device.
N7x is mass market, with less specs, but better pricing.

You see the same idea within E-series. Only thing I do not like is the fact that Nokia doesn't use simple numbers for their successors. The N71 is not the successor of the N70 and that is quite hard to understand for the shops, also because they show the N72 and N73. That are really different devices. Another thing is the fact that we will run out of N-series within two years I think. Look at the pace of Nokia. Four N-series in 1.5 year. We only have 5 places left; N75, N76, N77, N78 and N79.

Glad to see I am on the ball . I totally agree with how Nokia are indexing their series.

What I have believed from the start of the N-Series Launch is the fact that the whole idea of N and E series (N in particular) is just a way of developing a product cycle. I have also thought that the whole 'N' is just marketing, indeed the phones that have been shown in this series are evolution of technology. No doubt Nokia decided by hyping up the phones as 'exclusive' and 'multimedia computers' they will appeal to people. In two years they will simply release another 'Index number' and start the cycle again.

MR, do you think that Nokia are trying to push too many devices or are they segmenting the market effective enough?

this is a wow phone.. if all specs are correct, it feels like the first time we saw N91, but this one is a lot more stunning, and i even think it's good looking. Glad i just bought an N91, so i can wait for other greater N or E series from Nokia. Now Nokia is not boring anymore, at least for me..

This is an awesome device. A masterpiece of Nokia engineering . It looks great. But isn't it a bit too slim to fit 5mpx, CZ, AF? Anyway, this won't put me off N93 if it isn't delayed, cause this is going to be realeased 5 to 7 months later.

Why a 4GB HDD? Are 4GB flash NAND memory chips still so hard to get? It would make so much more sense for a phone, then perhaps it wouldn't be so thick.

I think MR has more or less confirmed it is true (Check posts 56 and 58).

@ MR, I think we might as well enjoy the technology as Nokia rolls it out and not worry about the segmentation as I think we can agree on it not being very good

Sorry, I must have missed that one... So this is what we could see at NMC 2006
About the segmentation, I'd say it's more or less strange, I don't know if I can categorize it as not being good.

AF, in your photo shop it looks like you can slide the screen totally out of the phone, like you have a screen in your left hand, and the keypad in your right hand . music buttons are looking very good in your PS!

Chokia the N99 concept

@N999, not saying that the phones are bad (if that is what you were saying), just that the way Nokia are going about things is really odd. I mean the N8x is a simple evolution of the N80, fine understood. But the N73 is pushing very close to the N80 and surpasses it in nearly every single way, that is odd. But I agree with MR, the increase in number does not necessarily mean better, the N7x phones are meant to be mass market and N8x more style based. Hence more people will be seen with an N73 rather than an N80. I think the previous notion that the phones ending like Nx0 were for mass market is wrong (as evident with the N73).

Still I have to say again that the specs feel toooo unreal to fit in such a small (and thin) monster of a device!!

don't think everybody else is the same like you..

I know you didn't say the phones are bad, and I didn't said so either. It's just about the segmentation and I feel the same way as you do. It's odd, because lots of people will tend to think N73 is better than N80, which in reality isn't true. N8x devices are all-round devices, and aimed to bussiness more or less. N7x are the lowest class among the current N-series + they have the lowest price, which makes me wonder if N7x wouldn't be aimed also to young people... Anyway, I think not even Nokia officials know exactly what's with their "computers' " names
