A strange device imho - and the angle between keyboard and PDA looks a bit too "steep" imho.

    But an interesting concept.

So where will this device be positioned?
And yeah it is kinda odd, not really a pocket-pc, is it

i like it, and the specs are not bad either. i've seen some UMPC devices (like the samsung Q1) and they are actually nice, but the small screen makes everything really very small on a high resolution. and they are very expensive.

this one is still small, has a keyboard and most of all, a GSM/UMTS radio! the price will tell more, if availability will be announced.

Nice idea!! The question is: what is it's size?! And foto's can play tricks on your mind, because I always thought that the Artemis was a huge phone, while in fact it's amazingly small.

Still something wrong with HTC engineer to understand that symmetry is beauty. Why cant they make the screen centered or at least similarly aligned left and right?

OMG, well beyond my pocket. Though holding that against your ears ll really look odd but u can spare yourself the agony by investing in a bluetooth headset; maybe one ll come with the device

Very, very attracive option!as soon as they make a more complete version of MS Office this will be practiacally unbeatable! All it needs is a usb-port.

Lol never pleased are we? always asking for more:P

It may be huge, but for the first time HTC invested in the camera, 3 megapixel with aufofocus, a step forward for HTC. I wonder what the quality will be like.

Yeah, interesting. You know im really considering this device, not as my main phone but as a secondary obviously. Because if those few issues i mentioned are sorted oud this would be terrific for replacing a laptop on days when you dont need it entirely, when just a few apps are needed!
Also just saw that it has USb 1.1 support, thats great!Obviously 2.0 would be amazing, but 1.1 is a huuuuuuuge step forward.
So to sum up its deficiencies(lol ), I actually mean the issues that could use resolving for making it a great laptop replacement:
    -TV-out
    -Beamer-out
    -Expanded MS Office Suite

BTW, this would then truly be a UMPC, but in fact i think its more of a UMPPC(Ultra Massive Pocket PC)!!

    Lucretius's Preview on Athena

The best way to describe HTC Athena I feel, have to be the term “Mobile PC Communicator.” You see, unlike laptops or computers, you do not need to wait for the device to (cold) boot up. You don’t have worries like battery going to end within 2 to 3 hours time (Lap top battery time usage). You no longer have the excuses like; the device is too heavy to be carried around. Same time, Athena does not behave like the rest of the Pocket PC Mobile devices. Just look at the specifications stated below, none of the any mobile devices have all the specifications offerings available on the market to date.

    Athena has impressive specifications
Intel Bulverde PXA270 624 Mhz chipset
    128 MB RAM / 128 MB ROM
    Inbuilt GPS Receiver
    Quad band GSM Network
8 GB microdrive with G senor
    3G UTMS / HSDPA 1.8 Mbps / GPRS / WiFi 802.11 b/g Connection
5” Samsung VGA Screen / 262 K color TFT LCD
Auto focus 3 mega pixels Digital camera
    USB 2.0
    A2DP Bluetooth 2.0
    AVRCP Bluetooth
HTC VGA / Composite Video / S-Video Output
Min. 30 FPS Video decoding output
    Detachable QWERTY Keyboard input
    Motion control web browser
Sub display User interface keyboard magnet attached to LCD
    SRS 3D sound effect
    Dual Digital Camera
    5-way navigation mouse like-button
    ATI imageon 2282 Graphics accelerator
A battery 2100 MaH which lasts for days easily
This communicator measuring 133.1 x 97 x 20 mm and weight somewhere near to 350 g has covered everything for a mobile road warrior.

Athena is for serious business man, journalist, engineers, real estate people, valuer, architect, etc to spare the hassles of bringing notebook, pda, video cam, digital camera, bt dongle, bt gps, ipod etc when they go for business trip or doing business.

iphone on the hand is only good for entertainment purpose.

but both are good for techie. so if you have extra bucks you can buy both.

Man, when are they going to release a pda with that much storage space and usability. The closest thinjg being the archos model but that doesnt use a standard OS.

Available for preorder in Holland, approx 500e with a 2yr 40e contract. not cheap:S
had a look at the dummy in the shop and i can tell you: its frickin huge and, i dont care how deep your pockets are, this device wont fit. in my case both figuratively and literally.
Also for such a huge "phone", WM sucks ass, it should actually just run XP.

    Chokia,
if you had the choice between this and E90, which one would you go for and why?

    cheers!

Nokia E90, definately, and reason #1 of 9999 is that is does fit in my pocket. Or should I go walking around like this:

iron_mike010 Totally true, but it will fit if you're a skater guy wearing Stuka or Overseaz, whehe.

I think that you shouldn't listin to any comments of fanboys etc.. just go to the shop, try those 2 phones out and choose one..

but I still don't understand why you compare 2 different phones? Do you want a big phone with a very big screen, or a small phone with a small screen (and series 60 (-> slower than wm))
