    Can bluetooth go through walls?

    Hello all,

Calling anyone with a dongle of more than 10m,

Could you test this out for me if possible?

I am looking at the Belkin BT 100m Dongle with a view to getting a Laptop in the summer. I currently have my desktop PC in the attic and think I'd like to use the laptop downstairs in the living room.

This means negotiating 2 flights of stairs that are not in-line, or simply going through the two floors. Can this happen? Is it reliable?

Please don't suggest WiFi as I want to use this dongle for my mobile aswell. Thanks to any who can help or offer suggestions. I have read a number of sites offering varying degrees of possibilities from; no - not through walls at all - to; depends on what is in the walls - to; yeah, no sweat!

    All replies greatly appreciated

Yes, bluetooth can go through walls. I dont remember if the D500 has the 100m bluetooth, but I know that most bluetooth devices dont go more then 50m, you might want to make sure yours does.

From what I've heard only the Moto v3 has class I (1.2) BlueTooth... but I guess ThreeX would know if the z1010 would to have it as well!

This will show you how much of a noob I am in these things . . .
does the phone need to be in the same range catagory as the dongle for remote access to work?

All the same, the range of 100m is available with a Belkin - £35 from Belkin themselves (out of stock). The range is more to do with a laptop I'm hoping to get around to buying this summer if all goes well.

Most of the time I'll be sitting in front of my desktop dowloading things to the phone, so range isn't an immediate issue, was just covering all my bases before I possibly had to buy a second dongle in the summer, thats all.

What, if anyone knows, does going through a wall do to the range and effectiveness of transmission? Reduce range? Or, unreliable connections? Are there any particular materials that would have a more significant effect on the ability to pass through walls? i.e. wiring? plumbing? steel supports?

Gee, I'm awkward aren't I, sorry peeps, thanks for the help,

You can use a 100m and a 10m bluetooth device together, but obviously you can only use it up to 10m apart. If you are planning on having 100m bluetooth devices in the future, then its not bad to get one now, but its not a needed thing since most devices now are still 10m.

Yes they are, because the 100m bluetooth is still very new. I believe it will be supported by a few new laptops to hit the markets soon, but I am not sure.

Maybe because of cost issues or lack of devices in the 100m class to communicate with? I really don´t know..
