When is the next release of a Nokia-phone? February: 9500, March: 7610, April: N-gage QD and 6610i... so.. logically speaking this month there should be something released..! the 8xxx perhaps?? Any fairs around soon, like CeBit?

I think Nokia is being smart not introducing a bunch of phones at the same time, but slowly and steadily every month bringing something new..

nokia is not smart, there launching alot of phones that are the same. lets hope that they don't make that mistake again.

I hope for Nokia's sake that they are smart enough to keep doing that. That way they've always been able to market a phone for everybody. There's usually at least one Nokia people think looks good, as opposed to SE, Samsung or Motorola which have only one phone of a certain type. If someone doesn't like the way that phone looks, they'll go to another brand. Nokia is smarter. Think about it.

Ehm, I don't get it?

Edit: Ok now I do. Totally Board is some kind of event where Nokia will hold a press conference on May 31st.
They might announce something on Nokia Connection 2004, June 14-15 too.

I don't think Totally Board is an event where the future 8xxx or 7xxx consumers are likely to be hanging around, more likely to see a new 3xxx (4xxx with touchwheel???) at that event, or to announce the first shipments of the N-Gage QD!

Nokia Connection seems like a real event to release some spectacular stuff  though still a month to go untill then...

I want to buy a 6230; at least I need a new phone really badly! My old 3310's all messed up. I like the idea of an 6850 VERY much, though I suppose that won't even be released (let alone be available) untill in August or something, to not intervene with the 6820 too much.. :(

But then again.. you can wait.. and wait.. and wait... and wait..... Pretty sure I'll get the 6230! :)

My girlfriend's dad actually shocked me last weekend when he showed me his new phone (dropped his 6310i in a toilet :)): a 6230! Oh the jealousy... :)
He asked me to play around with it for a while, and I had some fun recording voices and video of unsuspecting people (read girlfriend).

I did have a problem connecting it via bluetooth to an SE carkit in that it would not connect period.
(yes, her dad also told the shop that he hated them for installing an SE kit when he had a Nokia phone, but it's a Volvo S80 so they may have some connections with SE I guess)

I'll probably have to wait a while before buying my next phone (upgrade from Nokia 6100), since I'm rather broke at the moment, and there's no chance that'll be fixed soon. Oh well, by the time I buy a new phone there will be even nicer phones out I hope.

Nokia Connection looks good to show us some new phones for tomorrow. Let's see what Nokia is hiding up their sleeve. :p

the question was when do yuo expect nokia to release a new phone, and this is the next event...
I know, it was a short awnser...
In 2002 they presented the Nokia 3650 over there

The thing is, you can't always tell how long the time between announcement and release is. The 6610i was released less than a month after it was announced, whereas the 6230 was announced about 6 months before and came out at around the same time.

for 'i' versions of a phone, the time between announcement and release is always been very small, 1-3 months,
other types of phones takes some longer 3-6-9 months (like the 9500)
i was very surprised that the 7610 is going to be released in the same quarter it was announced...

I looked somethings up
Phones presented at Totally Board.

in 2000 the 3310
in 2001 the 5510 (music phone)
in 2002 the 3510i and 3650
in 2003 the 3200
in 2004 ???

but back then the totally board event was in September and not may...

Looks pretty sure that some sort of youth phone will be presented there. Interesting to see which way Nokia wants to go with the mass-market, and if they keep those 4k screens or do something "radical" and upgrade to 65k. Anyway a shame that 5140 only has 4k screen whilst the competition (Siemens M65) goes 65k.

And what about this Push To Talk idea? Will all future Nokias be equipped with this? Why isn't the 6230 equiped with it, or the 7700 (multimedia phone!) or the 9500?!

Afaik all Nokia's released from 2005 onwards will have PTT, and they'll at least announce a few more this year.

I think that Nokia will start doing the 262k screen on 3G phones. Doesn't have much use anyway upgrading a 65k, cause the screen-sizes aren't that large and any photos or videos taken can be viewed very well already with 65k, but with 3G they really will require 262k.

I wonder if Nokia's future 3G releases will support Video Conferencing? I think the lack of it in the 7600 was a bit strange, after all, it is one of the most obvious feature supported by most 3G phones.

The video conference application offered by 3 and other early UMTS operators is based on a pre-standard circuit-based technology. Nokia has pledged to support the functionality once the standard packet-based spec is implemented. I believe that NOK's new 3G platforms for 4Q will support the packet spec. The 7600 was designed before the packet spec was finalized. Moreover, Nokia's market testing suggests that video calls will not take off until a much larger percentage of the user base is on 3G - streaming video first, then live two-way video.

The clams do implement videocalls (at least a couple I saw), but I am not if those ones will come this year. It may be they announce this year and schedule release much later (like 7700).
