Samsung Pixon (M8800) - 8 Mega Pixel Camera phone with Face Detection, Smile Shot, Face link, Auto Panorama & Mosaic features. The best camera phone I own so far. The white balance is accurate, sharp image, accurate color, and the shuttle speed & photo saving is faster than expectation.

Samsung Pixon Specifications:
- 8 Mega Pixel Camera
- 3.2" 262,144 Colour WQVGA (240x400) Touch TFT LCD
- 3.5G (HSDPA 7.2Mbps)
- VGA and WVGA 30fps video record with 120fps slow motion QVGA feature.
- MP4, DIVX, 3GP, WMV video playback.
- MP3, WMA, AAC, e-AAc, e-AAC+, MPEG4, WMV music playback.
- Bluetooth 2.0
- Internal Memory 200MB + MicroSD up to 8GB
- Dimension : 107.9 x 54.6 x 13.8mm Weight: 121 g

Pros:
- Fantastic 8.0 Mega Pixel camera especially the Macro Mode.
- Fast respond, good touch feeling.
- Well done, extremely stable and never hang until now, already 2 months+ used.
- Microsoft Word, Excel, P.Point and Adobe PDF reader.
- Sharp and Clear 240x400 resolution TFT LCD

Cons:
- No Wifi
- Internet browser - Netfront could be done more better.
- The QVGA or WQVGA video record not enough smooth compared with my previous mobile phone - LG Viewty
- The search bar at Contact I feel better put on right side rather than left side.
- Photos slide show could be much more better. Preferred added effect.

The 11x zooming is not working. :insane:

The 12x zooming is somehow a joke!

If having Optical zoom, it will definitely a different story but optical zoom will made the mobile phone bulky.

So I think we still need to stick with Digital zoom! :-/

Thanks for this review, it's about time we had a Pixon review. Shame it lacks a Xenon flash unlike the North American version.

The video playback quality is great. You can playback divx from internet without needed of re-encoded. The playback is smooth and clear.

The browser speed is ok, but it not done well on pull down selection. If your pull down list is long, they is a troublesome on selection. I seldom use because I don't have unlimited data services subscription and this mobile don't have wifi.

Yalo, it will be perfect if added in Xenon Flash and also Wifi.

http://www.acegames.us/forum/attachments/gadget-reviews/126212d1239337565t-samsung-pixon-firmware-review-photo0093.jpg

My Default Firmware: M8800DZHK2 (Singapore, November, 2008 v2)

Firmware I tested:

- M8800ZHHL2 (Hong Kong, December, 2008 v2)
- M8800DZIB1 (Singapore, February, 2009 v1)

* Part 1: M8800DZIB1 Pros and Cons:

Pros: (Compare with Default Firmware)
- Message showing sending from who. (At least it is still there)
- Need double click to unlock. (Working all the time compare with ZHHL2 firmware)
- Startup still faster. (Same with ZHHL2 firmware)
- Camera quality slightly better in noise control.
- Video record slightly smoother. (My ex- LG Viewty still better on video recording)
- Photo viewing slightly fast.
- Auto accelerate to next photo slightly better but still not really usable. (Prefer manual)

Pros: (What is back from Default firmware)
- Accu Weather Widget and Extra Widget download is back.
- Shutter mute is back.
- Font style selection is back and nicest font is back.
- Remember T9 as default input is back.

Cons: (What is missing from ZHHL2 firmware)
- Menu speed I feel like back to my default firmware speed.
- No search at Contact anymore. (I want this!)
- Not remembering SMS viewing font size.
- Default store at Memory Card for camera taken is not remembering again.
- Chinese handwritten recognition is missing again.

Cons: (What is not fixing yet!)
- Multi 9 shot still not working.
- Sport mode still not really working.

* Part 2: M8800ZHHL2 Pros and Cons:

Pros: (Compare with Default Firmware)
- Search feature at contact.
- Overall menu run faster and smoother.
- Startup faster.
- Message showing sending from who.
- Remembering your sms viewing wording size.
- Able to handwriting recognition in Chinese input. (For traditional chinese only)
- Remember the storage location, this include camera shot, Bluetooth data, internet download.
- Need double click to unlock. (Not working all the time)

Cons:
- No extra new widget for download.
- No Accu Weather widget.
- Camera shutter sound cannot switch off and the default sound is extremely too loud.
- Ugly English font in certain area like setting. (The default font style I also don’t like)
- Cannot change font style.
- Not remembering T9 as default entry.
- No updates or fix in camera issue. (like 9 shot and sport mode not working)

would you say pixon is better than new tocco ultra, plus I heard there was freezing problems and slowing down with pixons...true?

From sample shot I seen, Pixon camera lens is better than Tocco Ultra.

Freezing problem? 1st time I heard, I never seen people mention it b4 in forums I went before. I never face that problem before, already 2 to 3 months I use it, never hang or restart b4. (Only happen once auto restart when I take video via bluetooth from friend mobile phone, but that is huge file size 79MB)

It is what I am being told at CPW  that apparently people have complained about the slowness and freezing :s though Im not sure if they were making it up ...well at least you can confirm that there have been no freezing. And I agree lens does seem better, the camera on pixon on whole better than tocco ultra imo, but how will it match with the soon to arrive Omnia HD is going to be the question in a very near future ( or even now :) )

From sample shot I seen, Pixon camera lens is better than Tocco Ultra. Having looked at both, I note a few differences. There's more noise in the Tocco Ultra pics at full resolution that's true. Whereas the Pixon has a very aggressive noise reduction issue. This results in a softening of the image and a loss of detail. It kind reminds me of my old Nokia N73 in that regard. But obviously with a far superior camera. But both the Tocco Ultra and Pixon take very clear, accurate colours. Blacks seem to be true blacks, the whites don't have a tinge of say a red or a blue that you can get on images from other camera phones.

Great review, by the way. Both are superb phones. I've had a play with the Pixon in a shop. I'm tempted to do a similar review about the Tocco Ultra. Although, I've covered some of the points in the Samsung thread already.

From internet information, lens in Pixon is not greater than Omnia HD. Omnia HD having same or even better lens than Innov8.

I am selling of my Pixon soon and awaiting of Omnia HD. I still prefer smartphone. :rotate:
