I think they added a microphone? And accdg to this, they made it faster too, and has a better looking screen.
http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/08/21/psp-3000s-lcd-screen-is-twice-as-fast/
According to a report by Engadget Japan, the screen is more colorful, has a stronger contrast ratio, and to the praise of gamers everywhere, has a faster response time. The official stats? Color gamut is twice as wide. The contrast ratio is improved 5 times. The response time has doubled. For gamers that have complained about the PSP-1000 and 2000's slow response time (which creates a ghosting effect in certain games), this is certainly good news.
eh, not impressive, at all, imo. i'll stick with my ds all the same :p they didn't even put a 'real' joystick on it? eleh ;[
Err is that all? Maybe I'll stick with my PSP 2000 for a while.
screen has improves alot since the intro of P-1000 and 2000.
check it out!

MUCH better contrat ratio, less reflections(which i hate the most on psp). We agree the old psp screen looks really nice in person, but PSP-3000 will be new experience lol.
Better repsonce time is also a great gift. psp1000-2000 has badi mean really bad responce time!
They have also changed a little bit on the design, every edges gotten smooth now.
anyway i think they put touch screen on psp, or they will wait for psp2 :(
i think its time to sell my old psp. :D
I'm not so convinced yet...

.... apparently, battery is not as good as the previous model. :(
PSP-3000 battery life diminished by new screen, Sony suggests buying a bigger battery
by Joshua Topolsky, posted Sep 2nd 2008 at 11:58PM
According to a GameSpot interview with Sony's US director of hardware marketing John Koller, that new PSP-3000 screen may look a bit better... but it's going to cost you about 20 minutes of battery life. Luckily for you gamers with endless pockets out there, Koller assures that minor wrinkle be offset because, "We're going to have the extended life battery that's still available for consumers, so we're still going to get the eight-to-ten hours out of that battery." So just to make that clear, the regular battery life will be diminished, but you can buy a new, larger battery from Sony to extend your gaming time.

I think I'll wait for user reviews about the battery life.
Saying one thing then taking it back sounds fishy to me.
The good thing about this is... when it comes out, the psp 2000 will go down in price some more.

The PSP 3000 is equipped with an updated screen, which--according to Sony--reduces glare, offers better color reproduction, and reduces pixel ghosting. Now that the models are hitting retail, however, some users are complaining that the supposed improvements are actually a step backward, introducing artifacts in the form of visible scanlines and jaggies on the screen.
When queried on the issue, Sony's Japanese headquarters (SCEI) is said to have replied, "Since this phenomenon is caused by hardware characteristics, there is no plan to fix it with a system software update.
