it seems like even their xbox 360 elite is borked too.
http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/is-the-xbox-360-elite-borked--417560
given their known reliability problems, some people are still buying them. so what goes on inside the head of those buying them. i'm sure it is not just me who is curious.
i'm sure there must be many people who are aware of their problems, yet think "it won't happen to me". "yeah sure, a high percentage of people do have problems with their xboxs, but it doesnt mean that i will".
people who decide to touch live electric rails also believe the same thing. "yeah, people die if they touch the electric rail, but it doesn't mean that it will happen to me".
i didn't, i bought a ps3 :)
but was thinking about getting one before, since many RPG are going to it.
but i have a bad lucky electronics, i won't dare to get one because of the 33% of failure rate, for me its like 90% or something that high.
every game good game its multiplatform or just exclusive to the ps3.
that GTA4, mgs4, assasin creed, gran turismo --> ps3
others games like mass effect end up on pc anyway.

I buy consoles to play games and one and a half years ago when I bought X0 there was zero interesting games for PS3 and many for X0. Also PS3 cost half as much then than xbox. Today the difference in quality game titles and prices ain't so big anymore, so maybe I would buy now PS instead. BTW why isn't there a poll option for "No more flaming BS polls"?
Well I bought a PS3 instead, but some advantages of the Xbox 360 is thats its cheaper and there are loads of games out on it and some decent xbox exclusives.
I thought the latest revisions sorted most problems, guess not.
"I am the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland", clearly. :p

If I am honest this thread is a steaming pile of s4!t.
First of all, no offense to you BrightSpark your a nice guy and most of your posts I agree with but some are really childish.
If people buy an xBox whats wrong with that? Yes some are pretty unreliable (I never told my brother to wrap towels round it to keep dust out :p) but they are a damn bit cheaper than the PS3 and have a bigger games catalouge, oh and PSN is as active as Alcatel's fan base.
No, I am not a xBox fanboy, I just thought £100 extra for less games and no backwards compatiaility is stupid.
Domo Kun there is backward compatibility, but not for the ps2 and that just 40gb model... the 80gb have full backward compatibility.
remind you xbox360 doens't come with wifi, blu ray, live is not free, rechargable controls, and also its 16x more reliable the ps3.
and pretty much everything on xbox360 is on the ps3, except gears, and halo.
the rest... just timed exclusive... or going to PC.

Jo I know, if you read ht epost it's based arouind the 40gb one.
You raise a good point though.

Nothing wrong but the RROD. Some pretty unrelieability? "SOME"?!?!?!?!
The rests of the points are only time depending. PS3 is getting rich day by day by great showcase of quality games. When something is "damn bit" cheaper but more problematic it does hurt.:p

I had an Xbox when they were first released. It was the biggest POS I had ever used.
Constant freezing, games not loading, & boring games were just too much. I sold it within 2 months.
I can't believe you can get an Xbox with the purchase of the Samsung Omnia....they have to give em' away with phones these days. Not a bad deal though if you decide to buy Omnia.

Do you think it is any reliable?
Not too optimistic! :)
I bought my xbox for 50 Euros, trying to flash it... :)

i bought it cos my friend was going overseas and gave me a really good deal..(read $150au a year and a half ago)
i use it as a dvd player mainly nowdays...
it froze on me a few times, but i bought the extreme cooler kit, and hasnt froze since.
buying devil may cry soon, cant wait :D
i don't believe i fall into any of those categories :p am i aware of the extent of the issues of the 360? yes. i know it'll happen to me, but, as i'm buying from jl, with an extended three-year guarentee, when it happens, they'll replace it swiftly each time. i'm gonna buy a 360, 'cos it's cheaper than a ps3, has the same games i'd buy on a ps3 - plus more 360-exclusive games, and better online imo.

some reasons keeping me from buying the xbox:
-they are noisy
-no blu-ray (hello?)
-looks ugly, ps3 looks so much better

Why I would buy one again, here cheapest xbox costs 150€ and PS3 440€. If your just interested in playing (like I am), PS3 is just terribly overpriced. And I like xbox's game selection more.
Yeah now with the price difference you can add to the list: "Broke and in desperate need of gaming, albeit terrible gaming."
/me massages his 50 euro flashed xbox with no memory card... :)
dunga traitor :P
I actually have an update, I got a 64 memory card for free, so my flashed xbox is still bought at 50 euros... The biggest bargain in history...

I personaly think the reliability issues are blown way out of proportion, i did have a xbox 360 and the only reason i sold it is because i wanted to try a wii out instead, but i never encountered any problems and i have known alot of people who own one also with no problems.
And considering you can get a xbox for around £130 (non hardrive type) now and the ps3 for around £300 then its easy to see why.
I also still own a original xbox which i have recently started using again and had no problems with that either.
Plus i used to work in electronics and i can tell you that it is very easy to replace essential parts of a 360 yourself and lasers and the like are also very cheap.
crusade.
m$ said the whole 11 million sold to that time were defective
thats why the upped the warranty for those who suffer RRoD.
and the new chipsets still have over 10% failure rate until january 2008
i traded my N73 with original 20gb xbox back then and so far i have not encounter any glitches whatsoever. the only thing i hate is its louder than my PC.

Yes ironic isn't it? We work hard to get our pc's as silent, powerful and good looking as possible.... Then there's the Xbox(my heat sink is more expensive) right under it pretending its a vacuum cleaner...
Wii for me. Current gen is crap, my PS2 is still my main console until next-gen arrives.
