I have the phone set to HSDPA(3.G) and it still keeps switching back to EDGE....it fluctuates, one time it's edge and the next 5 minutes it's 3G.

My question is, how do i lock the network to HSDPA/3G ONLY?

more details and pictures tomorrow since i received the phone late at night, snapped pictured and now i'm hitting the sack....sorry i don't have time to post an impression(and trust me it's positive one) and upload a billion pictures since i have to wake up early at 7 to go to work, and it's already 2am and my eye are shutting down.

PS - i hope there is a an HSDPA/3G mode only, i can't stand dual mode crap...even my aging Nokia N95 had feature in the network to lock on 3G/3.5/HSDPA (whatever you wanna call it)

thanks.

more picsture and impressions tomorrow.

btw, the HTC Touch Pro (with the sliding keyboard is not out yet right?)

marwan74 congrats
Here are some other points I'd like you to regard:
.Does the phone have different profiles (silent, loud, vibrate...)
.Does it have different caller groups with a ringing tone for each.
.How is the touch flo3D response (fast, slow, lagging)
.On my WM5 PDA WiFi settings are not that user friendly in contrary to the Nokias that search and connect very easy, how is it with the WM6.1?
.Built quality, cracks?
Thx in advance

some unboxing pictures:

(sorry mods, i forgot to re-size, resizing now)

my god, i'm on s roll, i got bored of my LG KU990 Viewty (sold) it, and bought the new HTC Diamond, the specs are killer and the UI is the best Windows Mobile ever (WM 6.1), it's very iPhone like, on the far is far more capable! :) heck the screen resolution is VGA, that is 480x640....it looks crystal clear! it also includes a build in 4GB, WiFi, YouTube application, Opera, all the office crap, it's 520Mhz.....and so much more it has a style but no need to use it since you can use the phone without a stylusy, your fingers would do! :)

here are some pictures:

i'm falling asleep yet again, but I'll answer the question since i promised yesterday, i won't go too deep into it though.....but trust me guys, get this phone, i hated the old WM, but this is way more refined and the UI resembled the iPhone in some cases. too bad the video is onLY QVGA 30fps.

-The only profiles i could find so far are "Normal", Silent" and "Vibrate. I need to dig deeper into it.

-sorry, no caller groups or personalized ring tones for separate contacts.

-Touch Flow great is very responsive,

-Wifi is a breeze to setup and use, definitely easier than WM5wifi setup.

-build Quality is great, no cracks or anything so far.

more impression tomorrow, my only complaint so far, is the lousy 900MhA batter, it dies on my almost 3 quarters of the day,,,,but then it's the first charge, and it takes 5-6 six charges for batteries to give more lasting power.

i'll see what the bettery is like 304 days. apart from tha im very happy with the phone, this the first phone to bring me back to WM after the horrid imate JAM and K-Jam.

i also love how you can type so easily on the Diamond without stylus. you can use numeric keypad like regular phones with or without T9, full qwerty like the iPhone, and my favorite is the qwerty with 2 letters on each key, that plus T9 is killer. :) it lower the possibilities of error and the buttons are bigger.

ok, i'm literally falling asleep on my keyboard, ask away and i shall answer tomorrow. to the guy that asked above the speaker, it's ok, nothing to scream about, but does the job for me.

and btw, the phone has and accelerometer in gallery, video and web browsing.

edit: i can't wait to try out the qwerty and that juicy 1350MhA better :)

im off to bed, as away guys, i'll reply tomorrow, you guys have a good and pleasant night, nighty'

EDIT: and lat but noy least, my favorite GIF lol

WURK IT!!!

hello marwan
compare it to n95 in loud speaker and video recording plz

N95 speaker is crispier and louder. Diamond is, loud, but louses sound quality and crispiness when it's very loud.

all of which doesn't matter to me sine the phone more than makes up for it in other departments, the screen resolution can to be seen to be believed, and the rouch joystick also acts as in which to zoom in and out of web pages, it al function and a direction pad(up, down, left and right) :)

Whats the battery life like? I know you can get an extended battery (the one from the touch pro) but that also comes with a new back cover for the added bulk.

How is the browsing on WIFI?

marwan74 congratulations on the new phone, what is the build quality like?

He mentioned its quite solid with no creaks above.

what are those two things in the box next to it? BT headsets?

Yeah those pics are more than sufficient for me. 5MP or even a flash would have been nicer but considering what else the Diamond does im really happy with the pics.

Any chance of posting a short video taken in daytime and indoors low light? The reason for low light it just to see if the fram rate drops like on Samsung non 3G phones. Thanks

Hows the audio through headset. Compare it with n95 8gb.

Itachi
24-06-2008, 21:05
It will be much better than with the N95 8gb for sure as you've got two DSPs working at the same time. Not to mention the hardware equalizers too. As it is it would beat most S60 and SE phones and even the iphone in terms of sound but if you installed something like SRS WOW HD I think it could come close to the N91.

box is the a Sony photo printer, the small box is the photo paper(which comes with it as a package), the game is GRiD on the PS3, and the UFO like thing is a tiny massage/vibrate thingy i got from london, it help blood circulation in my foot since i injured(sprained my ankle severely) :( lately

it'll take a minimum of 3 months to heal and im living off painkillers(400mg iBuprofen), costume made insoles(i ave flat feet too), foot strap and go for physiotherapy....trust me, i'm going through a lot of pain! :( i limp my way to work every morning till the ibuprofen kicks in.

here are some more picture for your viewing pleasure guys, i went to dubai and snapped a few pictures.

i got 2 remote control Ferrari Modenas that way their daddy gets the real thing soon...you know it's all about getting them(and their mom, lol) into the spirit! :)

EDIT: something is really bugging me about the phone, I CANNOT SEND TEXT MESSAGES! ...everytime i compose a message and hit send, it keeps telling me incorrect user email address even though i'm in the SMS/MMS section! WTF?

i hard reseted my phone and still no use!

another annoyance, when i send an MMS(if it goes though), i only have a limit of 100kb instead the standard 300(isn't that operator defendant? my Nokia and SE got up to 300kb), plus it asks me to resizing the picture(you'll end up with 2 picture, and i have to hit the compress image button in order for to attach it....and i'm talking 320x240 pictures....VG(640x480) won't go through for some reason since they're surprisingly over 100kb! usually VGA are below 100kb.

and last, due to the super hi-res screen, get ready to charge more often. surprisingly, the socket is not a mini USB connector(exactly same size though), yet the mini USB fits perfectly and works with the computer and charging over electricity(or charge over PC)....weird, yet interesting!

when the store rep told me bout fitting the regular mini USB socket i laughed thinking to myself, "oh god not another dumb clueless rep), but surprising(for once) they're right!

You should maybe pick up the the 1340mah battery. It will make it slightly bulkier but you get the extra battery life at least.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v339/mplayer74/04012008237.jpg

strangely enough i can receive text messge and reply to them, but creating new ones always fail....my draft box is jammed from unsent messages! :(

dame here, is the HTC Touch Pro battery even out yet? and use what cover? the Pro cover? that mean the LED light opening would be empty.

dame here, is the HTC Touch Pro battery even out yet? and use what cover? the Pro cover? that mean the LED light opening would be empty.

The battery is made in mind for the Diamond meaning the cover supplied with the battery is to fit the Diamond. So so such empty hole for the LED.

As far as I know HTC should be selling this directly.

In regards to your problem with sending SMS you seem to be the only guy on here with one so far so you may want to try on XDA Developers forum as there is a whole sub forum dedicated to the Diamond which quite a few on there have.

Marwan how is the Diamond at video playback? Specifically H264. Would you be able to test it out and let me know your thoughts? I could even uploada short clip for you to test if that would be useful.

Thanks

Can u plz tell me how good u can read the screen in the sun? Does it have any special technology like some nokia phones? In bright sunlight they lose color but are very very easy to read.

I don't think Touch Diamond has this but it's critical for me that it is readable in bright sunlight, it would be used a lot in the sun ...

How's the video recording? the video samples in mobile review sucks at around 3fps not 30fps. I wonder how Xperia could perform better at videorecording considering that they have identical processor.
Anybody can explain that?

x1 has been tweaked with its 3D drivers so that can encode and decode at VGA 30fps.

Diamond/Touch Pro can only encode/decode at CIF 30fps.

yeah it's similar to the case between N95 and Moto Z8. I think they roughly have identical processors yet Z8 can't handle VGA 30fps.

From the photos posted above - I dont see a light sensor on the front.

So I guess the answer to your question is a NO. It doesn't adjust its backlight on bright situations.
