Oh wow, what a game! If you don't have this yet, go and buy it ;)

If you have got it what do you think? As you're about to find out, I'm rather impressed

It looks fantastic and the sound is even better. You will be needing an HDTV and 5.1 surround to take full advantage. The depth of gameplay is ridiculous, there is so much attention to detail here!

The intro looks superb and before you can think that it is pre-rendered and the game will be worse, your HUD appears and you basically play an interactive intro while the credits continue. The transition from cutscene to gameplay is truely seemless and basically consists of the HUD reappearing and the camera angle changing!

The AI are also very clever and can even detect you by smell if you're smoking of have been in a nasty environment recently. They also question your box/drum disguises if you use it somewhere out of context "huh, a box..what's that doing here?" and lift it off you...you're not entirely safe in lockers either as they will check them IF they suspect you're in there. AI characters also change their behaviour towards you depending on your playing actions e.g. killing some PMC soldiers will make the Militia friendlier.

There is a huge array of weapons and items already and I'm very early on in the game. Each item has a weight and this should be taken into account when loading Snake up with gear, if he carries over 70kg he will be unconfortable and lose psyche. The iPod is pretty cool in Snakes gadgets as you can use it to play alternate soundtracks and even downloaded podcasts, it also improves Snakes psyche to keep him happy. Other items include cigarettes which increase psyche but with fairly drastic health consequences and Playboy magazines which can both cheer up Snake and distract an enemy.

You really have to watch your step when sneaking as there is a lot of litter and cans etc. lying around which you can accidentally kick and make a noise. You can of course deliberately make noises to distract guards by tapping on any surface or by throwing empty gun magazines allowing you to sneak round are draw the man away from his allies so you can attack him safely.
CQC is nice though I recommend only holding the knife, holding a gun reduces your CQC moves significantly. However guns do have an added advantage allowing you to perform a hold up when approaching from behind. In this case the enemy will drop their weapon and put their hands in the air, you can then search them for additional items and pressing /\ at the right time grabs the guys crotch for that extra bit of pursuasion ;)

This game really has more to it than I can describe, even the second mission briefing is brilliant as you can switch around between three screens showing the briefing, CCTV and the Mk.II's camera. All three can be viewed in split screen or any can be made full screen. You can also drive the Mk.II around the scene to collect additional itmes.

The level of detail and depth have really stood out and I would say that so far this is the best produced game I have ever come across!

Mik

PS- There's an extensive review on IGN where they actually gave it 10/10 -=>click<=- (http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/881/881472p1.html)

This summer is filled with great game releases! Just watched IGN video review, MGS looks better than ever! Only problem is that I can't play because it's a stupid exclusive... :-/ Gotta keep on waiting for Fallout 3.

lol I m going to pick this up soon so I didnt read your post in case you decided to put spoilers in lol.

I saw this on engadget, there is a funny bit where there is a dig about 360 not using hi-def discs!

Isnt MGS4 about 50GB?

@ TRicks

Don't worry, I din't include any spoilers.

@ Razer

yes, it is a full Blu-Ray. In fact it is actually larger as it installs over 4GB onto the HDD and then replaces all of the level textures etc. through a little re-installation when you move on to each chapter. So basically I think there is a lot of data compressed onto the disc and it explodes onto the HDD when needed.

I read that they had to cut many data so that it would fit i a Blu-Ray disc.

There is also a CD/DVD edition for PC.

Whats the pack in the picture?

It didn't fully fit on a 50GB Blu-Ray but this has been overcome with a large HDD installation which is updated between each Act. When moving onto the next act there is an small re-installation which replaces textures and maps installed on the HDD. Basically it seems that there is a lot of data compressed on the disc which is extracted when needed.

That picture of a 360 version is clearly a photoshop spoof made to make a joke of the number of discs it would require. They're not even DVD cases but CD jewel cases.

Hideo Kojima said that they don't intend making a 360 version and that this game is "made for the Playstation Platform". He did admit that their studios are working on 360 titles but they are not related to MGS

If you're going to buy MGS4 I hope you like cutscenes, there's a LOT of them and they can be long!
At one point yesterday I had a cutscene followed by Mission Briefing and then another cutscene which reulted in no actual gameplay for 45 minutes!
The briefing is interactive though and the scenes are all interesting enough to make it pass quickly and you can pause themat any time. Of course if they really aren't your thing and want to ignorew the story you can skip them all even on your first play through.

How come the game is so big, 40gigs? That's insane. What did they do to end up that amount of data?

Unfortunately Konami have continued this trend since MGS2 and I believe takes a large chunk off the playability of the whole experience...a bit of a shame really. Thankfully you can skip past these from what I've heard, but really, just shows how they haven't really gone afar from the MGS roots--and they shouldn't considering the large MGS fanbase that is already pleased with Konami's latest offerings.

Yes, Metal Gear games have always been largely focused on story and I'm glad this is too.

You can of course skip every scene even on first play if you so choose to, taking no time away from playing ;)

My only complaint about the end was that it is too long. Theres a lot of talking to explain various story ends and I just thought they over-did it a little.

it is a mix of game and move in one.
a new kind of amusement and seems logical to me, when you have at your disposal 50Gb to fill

I have loved MGS since it first came out.

I just got a new HDTV, & I have heard that it looks awesome on one.

Might have to sell the Wii...
