View Full Version : How to connect a Bluetooth headset to Vista
This is probably an unsual question, it seems to be a question Microsoft likes to ignore... I use a sony ericsson HBH-DS220 bluetooth headset, and I'd like to pair it with Vista.. I use a Microsoft Bluetooth adaptor... :D
Any ideas?

DUNGA,
Wouldnt you click on the BT icon that comes up in the little toolbar?
should bring up the Bt menu and search for a new one? then connect it?
Only an idea as not used BT on my pc since i got Vista.

Lets say that Vista recognizes my Stereo Bluetooth headset as a Bluetooth Audio renderer and its status is 'working'...
Which is not true, its not working and nobody has figured how to make it work yet... Not even me... :D

I did manage to make it work......but only for a few seconds and after that my BT earphone went auto-off. I did tried it again based on how I managed to make it work but unfortunately I wasn't able to do it again. It took me at least an hour trying to figure it out what went wrong but in the end, I gaved up......puzzled!
I remember how my heart skipped a bit at first when I first realized it was working. I was actually already thinking of using it when I do my travel by plane or train......but I am not losing my faith, I will figure it out how to make it work and when I will...I'll let you know.

I manage to make it work again but the sound is lagging and not a smooth flow. By the way, I used Nokia BH-501. I am going to check the shop 1st week of next month and see if they have a BT stereo headset that works with my laptop.
Anyway, here is what I did....
Open both your BT connection and then search it from your pc's Bluetooth Devices.
It should be showing in "Audio devices" if connected.....try setting it with "no passkey",
after that, highlight(or click) on your BT audio and then click Properties.....
from properties, click "Services" and tick all square.....then "Ok".
After that, in "BT Devices"..click "Audio"
and in it, you should look for your BT audio device and then click "Connect".
Once connected, right click the "Sound Icon" on the lower left side of your screen and choose "Playback Devices".....
then look for "BT Stereo Audio", highlight it and then click "Set Default".
After that you should start hearing something in your BT headset when you play a video or music.
In this part, I just hope that the sound won't be lagging like I experienced.
Anyway, goodluck and let me know if it works.....
At the end of the day, I think the best solution on this problem is perhaps an added A2DP features on new laptops and desktops coming out in the future otherwise even if anyone will manage to make it work, I'm pretty sure that the sound quality won't be the same compared as let say...an A2DP featured music phone.
LAPTOP makers......add this feature on your product and I'm sure you will get an increase in sales.:jump:
I can't wait for the day when wireless HD quality BT headset will hit the market......which goes well with my 2nd laptop, a FullHD featured one.
I think I should buy one of these A2DP featured laptops....

Sorry for the late reply coz I was busy with my work.....
Anyway, you can find Audio option when you open Bluetooth devices...together with PIM Interface, Share, Options, Dial-up, Devices, Hardware, and COM Ports.
Let me know if you can find it....
Oh! I found this link...it's the same steps as I told you earlier but much clearer as it has the screen view....http://www.lytebyte.com/2008/07/06/how-to-connect-a2dp-bluetooth-stereo-headset-with-vista/
I think I'm in love with you.... :)
It was because of the '0000' password, that might have been the issue(even if thats not the case thanks for the help), thank you so much....

The pleasure of helping is all mine......let me know though if you were successful with it.
As for me, I am going to test some BT stereo headsets 1st week of next month as I want to check which is the best for my Ferrari laptop.

I've yet to make anything bluetooth to work properly under Vista! It acts as though it's working but nothing happens.
Once I had the remote control on my K850i working in media centre, never worked again though.
I can confirm Vista works flawlessly with my sony ericsson bluetooth stereo headset, its scary how good it works with such an old microsoft bluetooth adaptor I bought in Dubai almost half a decade ago... :)
