New UI certainly has all the eyecandy one can want. I guess it doesn't have the puny 900mah battery, if it's ""Better battery life" than their other devices"?
What size screen is it? And does it use the same CPU as X1?
It looks really cool. Certainly better ui than nokia s60 fp2.
This phone looks amazing I am really impressed by those videos. The music system looks like the closest thing to iphones cover flow we have seen yet. However in the 2nd video it looks a bit on the slow side.
Will this be using the same Qualcomm chipset used in the X1 ect....Just found these specs.
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
Qualcomm MSM 7201A @ 528MHz
256MB ROM / 128MB RAM
7.2MB HSDPA / HSUPA (rev A EVDO for Sprint versions)
2.8″ VGA screen
WiFi
Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR
eGPS
3.1MP Camera with flash
Forward facing camera
Samsung MoviNAND 4GB internal flash storage
Orientation sensor
FM Radio
microSD expansion
900mAh battery
Dimensions: 51×99x10.7mm
Don't know what to make of the back. But a great device.
Yeah im very impressed. No word on pricing yet though.
Nice device.Looks good too.But my fav thing is the UI.
Yes, the ui is amazing. The size is also decent. But a vga screen with 900mah is bad. It has power hungry windows mobile.
The UI looks really really nice...lots of eye-candy indeed!
Gonna have to put my claws on one of these. Impressive.
i hope the whole UI covers winmo totally.. it looks darn sexy on the vids. sexier than xperia panel or iphone ui.
Htc is on fire baby. Gonna beat nokia, samsung and sony's ui. Apple os is in danger too.

is it me, or does the xperia have the same or better specs than this phone, first the screen is 3 vs 2.8, and wvga vs vga, also the battery is only 900 mAh, whilst the x1 is 1500! and the xperia is full metal....
the UI is very interesting indeed!
Well, that's how it should be done...... :D
<8weeks from announcement to release?? Puts the 'big 5' to(rightful) shame...spot on, HTC!

Aware, the n82 was released 2 weeks after the announcement! ;)

Live shots and live video: http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/06/htc-touch-diamond-hands-on/
So the size is: 102 x 51 x 11,35 mm
Seems like HTC has done a quite good job on the GUI part and the size of this device is absolutely amazing!
A couple of things I don't like, however:
- No microSD card slot. They probably want to push people to use more phone memory, but I would personally have preferred a card slot.
- Seems kind of slow on some of the videos I have seen. Some of it will probably be fixed before release, but in some places it's their approach in the software. It seems like it's not doing the action before you're done with the swiping, which make it seem slower.
- The screen seems to be of the old resistive type and not the more finger-friendly capacity type. Haven't seen anything definitive on this yet, though.
Price is €538 including all taxes & delivery !!

Another great live video of the UI in action by MegaWhat: http://youtube.com/watch?v=z2dl3pGwsgk
And one by SlashGear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoaXA9un7YE
Ha ha deuzxani was just about to post that slashgear clip. Have to say it looks fantastic. I hope video capture is VGA 30fps.
**^ramintop^**, quite true(although, N82 was announced months after leaks, and used 99% tried and tested hardware)...... :)
I still think this this is going to be quite big in WM circles! Way to go, HTC......

I don't get it. What's the big deal about this phone? Seems mediocre to me....
More touch based interactivity and more eye candy basically.
What's the big deal about this phone?
The hardware is nothing much special, screen and size aside imho - what makes it special is the new UI, that's more than just skin deep this deep apparently. Makes SE's XperiaPanels look outright dull and uninteresting...
Isnt the hardware same as on X1? I know it’s a different named chipset but I cant find any differences on it.

really nice device. I will wait for Raphael to pick mine between them. Btw what happened to him?? I thought it was supposed to be announced with Diamond.
What about the writing of messages?? No pen??
Makes SE's XperiaPanels look outright dull and uninteresting...
agree.... i think 2008 is the year of touch UI... and yes about x1, read: http://forum2.mobile-review.com/showthread.php?t=75208
anyone else turned off by the htc and WM logos? lol
No im actually really turned on. lol
But I want to see more on what HTC mean with their statement on other batteries. 900mah doesnt bode well at face value so perhaps HTC have done something similar to what Nokia done on the N96 with that equally crap 950mah battery. Its out soon though so im sure Eldar will have hsi review up soon though.
Overall this looks like a great handset. Great looks, nice looking UI and specs to match. Could this be the first real competitor to iphone? Ha ha we always say that. Its definatley the best thing HTC have given us to date although I suspect the Raphaelle handset will be better.
I wonder if the 3D drivers will be "activated" as supposedly done on the X1. If so then this will prove to be a stiff opponent to the X1. And its WM 6.1 pro. Correct me if I am wrong but X1 is just 6.1 and not the Pro version right?

Ok I have officially fallen in love in Diamond :D
The only thing that could stop me from buying this is the lack of microSD slot and maybe the price but we'll see when it'll hit the market and when reviews start showing :)
This ain't the phone for me. I'll keep on waiting for the HTC Raphael. :)
Btw, I'm really curious about the responsiveness of the screen. It looks a little better than current WM phones, but I'll really judge it when I've had one in my hands :D

The Raphael is the new flagship HTC device isn't it with a 5MP AF camera?
I hope HTC have improved the camera quality with this device as this is an area they have been rather weak on in the past.
GSMArena's take on the Diamond (http://www.gsmarena.com/one_touch_one_htc_touch_diamond-news-498.php) & it's not all positive. In the second video on the link it looks quite sluggish compared to the iphone.

Yer, it's one of those squishy screens apparently. Why is no-one copying the glass screen from the iPhone? That's one of the very few things I like about that phone...
Or let me guess, Apple have some kind of dastardly patent on it?
Super Chimp, it will be the successor of the HTC Tytn 2, but don't expect a 5mp camera. It will be a Touch Diamond with slide out keyboard.
bavlondon, exactly my point. I have never experienced a touchscreen so responsive and smart as the iPhone's. That will be the next step for HTC, but at least they've got the looks of the UI now completely on track. I think this even looks better than the iPhone's UI.

Not saying what the video recording quality is, you can bet it's not VGA @ 30fps.
Its definatley a step up in terms of closing in on iphone, definatley.
Not saying what the video recording quality is, you can bet it's not VGA @ 30fps.
It uses the same/similar processer -Quallcomm so it should do but who knows if those 3D drivers have been "activated" as on the x1.

lightindark, they added the glass screen in the last week or something, it didnt need any patent or anything.
Why is no-one copying the glass screen from the iPhone?
That requires a non-resistive touchscreen - like the iPhones/Pradas/Viewtys/etc capacitive one.

Jolly good, hopefuly Nokia catch on then.
Nokia's way behind everybody as far as touchscreen goes.
Does anyone remember the nokia virals on this site spreading the "customers don't want touchscreen" meme up until the iphone landed?
Perfect phone if it had a memory card slot... :)

The 900mAh battery may not sound like much but the listed talk/standby times are fairly good.
http://www.htc.com/uk/product.aspx?id=46046
Rechargeable Lithium-ion or Lithium-ion polymer battery
Capacity: 900 mAh
Talk time:
Up to 270 minutes for WCDMA
Up to 330 minutes for GSM
Standby time:
Up to 396 hours for WCDMA
Up to 285 hours for GSM
Video call time: Up to 145 minutes for WCDMA
(The above are subject to network and phone usage.)
These numbers are much better than the HTC Touch Dual which had a 1120mAh battery.
Perfect phone if it had a memory card slot...
and if with standard headphone jack...
I dont have any experience with HTC devices so I dont know how accurate they are when talking about standby figures. Im sure reviews will come soon so we will know for sure.
holy wow... this one looks great... x1 looks buttaz compared to this
lol yeah buttaz indeed. To be fair the X1 only looked good in the touched up pics anyway. I am still in a way happy but upset that no one else has managed to give us a touch screen device with an interface and touch screen as intuitive as iphone. When will it come?

HTC Touch Diamond in depth (preview) :
http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=193
19/05?? <2 weeks from announcement to release??!?? Very impressive...... :D
Can't see that £425 Play price holding for long, either......
:)
Not sure about that. Polaris is still £400 and the TYTN2 is still £460. The Diamond along with Raphael will be the top 2 models so they will surley hold their prices even on sites such as play.
Yer, it's one of those squishy screens apparently. Why is no-one copying the glass screen from the iPhone? That's one of the very few things I like about that phone...
bavlondon, exactly my point. I have never experienced a touchscreen so responsive and smart as the iPhone's. That will be the next step for HTC, but at least they've got the looks of the UI now completely on track. I think this even looks better than the iPhone's UI.
I agree that unless they have made some pretty big step forwards regarding the 'old' resistive touch screen technology, they need to implement the capacitive touch screen technology as used on the iPhone. It's simply way better for finger-based operations. I can see why they can't use it when people still needs to interact with the normal Windows Mobile GUI, which requires a stylus for fluid use, but with their new interface enhancements they seem to believe that the user should never use anything else than their fingers, which is why there must be some other reason for not using a capacitive screen...?
I dont have any experience with HTC devices so I dont know how accurate they are when talking about standby figures. Im sure reviews will come soon so we will know for sure.
HTC usually have good battery times. My old C500 (HTC-made) had a listed talk time of 5 or 8 hours (depending on where you looked), and it actually seemed the hold power that long. The standby is listed as 140 hours and one time I got 130 hours with minimal calling and texting - pretty amazing actually, considering 140 hours should be completely optimal conditions (no calls, texts, etc.).
By the way, X1 also uses the Professional version of Windows Mobile (Professional = touch screen, Standard = non-touch screen).
That requires a non-resistive touchscreen - like the iPhones/Pradas/Viewtys/etc capacitive one.
Actually, I don't think the Viewty uses a capacitive touch screen - it comes with a stylus, after all. This brings me to the next question: Is the Prada and the iPhone the only two phones that use such a screen? And how is the Prada's screen compared to the iPhones? Is it just as responsive, or have Apple really made something special about the screen, so that the responsiveness is not just because of the technology used?
Looking forward to try this one out. I think it will seem really tiny when you hold it in your hand with those dimensions. I heard it should be out on all (five? I heard that number mentioned, I think) UK operators. Don't know if they will all get it in June, though. Knowing HTC (and most phone manufacturers), it will probably not be widely available before some time in July - still a decently quick launch, though.
Edit: Found some more interesting information:
From Paul at MoDaCo (http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=268038&view=findpost&p=892074):
Some great little tidbits of info from my recently finished session...
- When the stylus is removed in a call, it starts a note for that person. Removing the stylus turns on the device. There is a magnetic latch for stylus, no more losing the stylus by it falling out!
- When the phone is ringing, you can turn it over to mute the call
- There is a marble game with an accelerometer included, also tied to vibration motor
- It was designed for haptic feedback, but the user experience wasn't satisfactory
- The screen is NOT capacitive due to acceptable user experience for handwriting recognition essential in asian markets
- There is tempered glass on the front of the Touch Diamond, a first for a HTC device. Touch surface -> tempered glass -> LCD
- It doesn't auto rotate all apps, just Album, Browser etc.
- The GPU (graphics accelerator) IS in use
- There is NO microSD slot, adding it would have added 2mm to the chassis
- There is a built in mass storage mode. When you use it to add content from your PC, the music and photo apps automagically update
- The Browser uses the Opera rendering engine, but completely HTC engineered UI
From MobileBurn (http://www.mobileburn.com/gallery.jsp?Id=4584):
In terms of the new hardware design, one of the many standout features is the new 2.8" VGA resolution display. Not only does it offer the amazing visuals that one would expect from 640x480 pixel resolution, but the response of the display to finger or stylus input has improved ten fold. It doesn't quite have the feel of the iPhone's capacitive touch display, bit it is worlds closer than the original Touch.
Can't wait to try out the touch screen on this. I'm crossing my fingers to it being really sensitive, as the size of this would probably be much more comfortable for one-handed operation than the next-gen iPhone, which on the other hand will probably have as sensitive a touch screen as the current iPhone.

I've done some research on the qualcomm chips and I think that it may have something in common with qst1105 chip presented by the company at the MWC this year. Those are the specs:
* An integrated ARM11™ applications processor running at 528 MHz with support for third-party operating systems (Windows Mobile, Win CE and Linux)
* A comprehensive range of popular audio and video codecs
* Rich multimedia features, including camera, video playback at up to VGA resolution, and TV-out
* Seventh-generation gpsOne® engine with support for Standalone-GPS and Assisted-GPS modes, as well as gpsOneXTRA Assistance™ technology delivering enhanced Standalone-GPS performance
* Support for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and FM radio
* 65 nanometer process technology for enhanced battery life and bill-of-materials savings
* and it has hardware accelerator for 2D/3D graphics
If just HTC include all necessary drivers for video/graphic accelerator(and as it was stated on MoDaCo it uses it) it has all needs needed to become a multimedia monster like n95. Shame the TV-out was omitted in the device :(

Hi guys,
I'm simply astonished with HTC Diamond features/form - kick a$$ device :). I guess it's time to say goodbyu to regular phones!
Any information on video recording capabilities? Is it VGA as well? What about fps?
Also for those with previous HTC model/s (Cruise) - what is 3mp camera like? Is it comparable to SE/Nokia 3MP cameras? I know Diamond doesn't have flash, which is not so big deal as in dark all images look crappy, anyhow I take pictures mostly during the day.
BR
Miki
If its using the same processor then technically it should be able to do 30fps VGA but I havent seen that listed anywhere yet. Not sure what pics are like but generally they are average at best. Camera doesnt tend to be a strong point of HTC devices hence no flash.
I agree with bavlondon :)
The first impressions of HTC Touch Diamond are up on the front page:

Very, very nice...can't wait to see it in reality for myself.
I hope HTC will do a version with a better cam (I wouldn't even consider it without a flash of some sort, so that at least is a must imho), memory card slot and ideally a 3.5mm jack...
Also, I'm looking forward to battery life reports.

Other thing I am concerned of is qwerty keyboard. Due to small width (51mm) this is 10mm narrower than iPhone (61mm). While iPhone's keypad is pretty much ok for a large hands person like me :), I'm affraid that HTC's small "buttons" with tiny space between might be headache for thumb typing. Any impressions how does it work in other HTC products?

I am with you on this as I seem to be considering the same three phones at the moment, the problem with the BB is it only has a 2MP camera whereas the HTC has a 3.2MP camera but no flash. That of course is along with consideration of their various other features. Either would be a radical departure for me as I have never used either a BB or WM device before.

well said. I've been playing around with BB 8310 (Curve), and my initial impresson was: wow, perfect typing, nice email client (too bad it shows only plain text, unlike iPhone), a bit wide for my taste, screen much worse than my Nokia 6500s in terms of colors and brightness, looks washed-out. Now there is new BB Bold but its much wider/taller and heavier than Curve, actually it's replacement to 8800 series, not Curve. Screen should be major update in terms of quality, plus wifi and all other fancy connection tools, but camera is still 2MP, too low for my taste.
On the other side Diamond has VGA screen (2.8" comparing to 2.5" BB), plus slim design (looks more like regular phone), and 3.2 MP camera, so at the moment looks like a winner to me.
BR,
Miki
I like the look of the diamond but im pretty sure the cam quality wont be that much to shout about if it follows suit with the other HTC devices.
Plus id really like to change to something and ive never heard a bad word form anyone who has owned a BB so I think im going to take the plunge.

True, and just to add that BB has over 14 mil sold devices comparing to 3 mil for HTC. Most "business executives" use BB and this is one of the reasons for BB's success as irreplaceable device (at least in US). However, most European power users are "spoiled", and check every single aspect of device (screen, camera, email client, gallery manipulation....). We all know pretty well pros/cons of SE/Nokia/Samsung and final choice is made on personal preferences, but BB/HTC/... are honestly speaking uncharted territory for most of us, as they are pretty new/unknown devices in Europe, so I guess it will take some time for us getting familiar with as we are with SE/Nokia/Samsung, before we make our final judgment (again based on personal preferences)

Yeah good points. Most people would dismiss HTC and BB as non mass consumer phones but they are more and more geared towards the other phones now so it was only inevitable that devices such as these would be announced. Anyway im all for competition as no one like to be stuck with the same old stuff year in year out. In the case of SE that is literally the case haha

I know people that use their HTC devices as their main device and some that use it along side another phone. However as I mentioned above the diamond is typical of this new breed of devices from HTC that is more towards a convergance device so no I think the Diamond can definatley be used as a sole device. Nice. I should really check smape more often.
During my short "friendship" with BB Curve, I couldn't loose the feeling even BB is 10x more powerful device that everything is much nicer and smoother on Nokia 6500s (menu layouts, animation, fonts...). If I compare BB vs. 6500s like phone vs. phone (not like pda vs. phone) in terms of calls, messages, images then 6500s is a winner to me . Everything looks outdated on BB.
Battery is a bit concerning but we will know more about that in time.
There are rumors that HTC Diamond will be shipped with 1,340 mAh battery instead of 900 mAh. Then again, high capacity battery may be aftermarket product, not embedded one.

True but the Bold is more revamped in most if not all areas. Ordinarily a BB wouldnt recieve much attention on this forum as they are as you say outdated and boring but not the bold.

But still, even with new spec BBB is (according to spec) way below HTC Diamond.

I have some questions :
1. Does its browser support Flash 3 ? (youtube..)
2. Is there any clue about its audio quality in headphones?
3.Is the price known?
Thanks
1. Does its browser support Flash 3 ? (youtube..)
Afaik it comes with Opera 9.5, which supports Flash Lite. So, yes...
2. Is there any clue about its audio quality in headphones?
Haven't heard anything about that yet.
3.Is the price known?
Amazon Austria lists the price a little above 500€ (20% VAT), and they're usually quite accurate...

It's also listed on Play in the UK as I have already posted above at the price of £430 & now with a new release date of 09/06/2008.
That's rather expensive! Considering that you can get a better specced phone such as the N95 8gb for less.
Lets hope the price comes down, especially since operators in the uk will be offering subsidised versions of the diamond very soon.

As I said above I know T Mobile are getting it in June & I imagine for the other networks it will be much the same.
Thanks Superchimp one of my TMobile line are due for an upgrade in June, i might have to pop into a Tmob shop in June and have a look. Initial reports suggest that the touchscreen is rather sluggish, i can't recall the website but they were testing a prototype. Let's hope that this is fixed.

no expandable memory and utterly inadequate battery gives me a rather doom laden view of this model.
I think 4gb is fine. Its not like every single person uses a minimum of 4gb.
I think 4gb is fine. Its not like every single person uses a minimum of 4gb.
4gb was fine in the W950i, now HOW ancient is that now ?.:)
With music, videos and map data, 4GB get crowded sooner than you think...
4gb is sufficient for those who don't mind carrying two phones. Even a memory card limit of 2gb would've been acceptable as long as they could be swapped, but to have an absolute limit is unforgivable for that rrp.

EDIT: SMAPE review (now in english!) HTC Diamond vs. iPhone:
http://www.smape.com/en/reviews/htc/Diamond_iPhone_etc.html
so, who said that WM can never be efficient?
finally we are going to say a few words about the battery life results. The most successfully optimized samples out of all the ones available demonstrate very sound results. Diamonds is today's fastest VGA PDA, excelling anything produced by E-TEN including V900 (QVGA TCPMP test - 306% as fast, VGA test - 101% as fast). The average battery life revolves around 1,5-2 days, a continuous video playback cycle with maximum screen brightness lasted for 3 hours 36 minutes. A very decent score for a 900 mAh battery unit, especially in a such function-reach device equipped with a very bright, high-definition screen. Still these were but test samples, so we may expect an even longer battery life in the commercial version.

This year could be fun for mobiles :P
The iPhone has got manafacturers off they're fat behinds.
Rapheal is too like the xPeria X1, and if i'm honest SE have a much broder audience than HTC :-/ I can't really see anyone wanting the Orange SPV Sxxx
or T-Mobile MDA Diamond etc.
If HTC are to broden their horizons they must drop all operator re-branding and boost advertising.
But I do like the diamond, it's just why not have the cheaper N95?
Sorry about SP and Grammar dead tired

For walkmans and etc, but how large is it for smarties? I'm not too sure that X1 would sell less as a HTC branded device.

Try to keep your N95 8Gb, its one of the best phones available...granted the HTC Diamond is a good looking phone and the new 3D Touchflo interface does look good, but it really doesn't bring anything new to the table.
Keep the N95 as a primary phone and buy the Diamond as a secondary phone and swap between the two when you feel like.
Trust your mind, its telling you the right thing!!!!
"but it really doesn't bring anything new to the table"
Size? N95 8GB is a monstrosity!
"but it really doesn't bring anything new to the table"
Size? N95 8GB is a monstrosity!
its a monstrosity with....let me see....where shall I begin?
5 megapixel auto focus Carl Zeiss camera as opposed the Diamond's 3.2
8gb memory.....against the Diamond's 4gb
3.5mm headphone jack which means that you can use your own headphones, against the Diamond's 2.5mm effort.
TV out.....where's the TV out on the Diamond?
Both have a 2.8 screen, the N95 8gb packs a 1200mh battery, the Diamond has a 900mh battery...the N95 will last longer...
The N95 is a "monstrosity" because almost 8 months on, it still packs alot more features than the Diamond.

tried this phone 2days ago and all i can say is it looks nice... but the UI is a bit sluggish and the touch screen is not so responsive.
Is it sluggish compared to other windows mobile phones ?
or you feel that it is not so responsive when you compare it to UIQ or java phones .
I have a SE P990 and am interested in SE G900 and HT touch diamond
and I am waiting for more reviews and users opinion about the 2 devices before I can make my decision.
This phone is mainly targeted as a rival to the iPhone, and it has pretty much been settled as a true iPhone killer
I've seen hands-on & unboxing videos of Diamond on YouTube, and it's not that slow, my N73 is really slow and I don't mind it, I'm actually used to it, also keep in mind that this is the very first version of the rom, I'm sure that it could get much faster with upcoming updates
noorjab, G900 & Diamond are not in the same category, G900 simply fades in comparison (IMO)
I'd love to get a Diamond, but Pocket PCs tend to be sold for much higher prices here in Egypt, the very first HTC Touch is sold for $700, that's almost as much as Diamond elsewhere!

specs wise yes its an iphone (1) killer, but not if you look at the reaction speed of the iphone vs this phone. Symbian IS slow thats why you see the diamond as a fast phone, but people used to the iPhone see the diamond as a slow phone ;) think about that.
AF, the N73 is slow compared to newer devices...and it's 2 years old now.
Recent S60 devices are MUCH faster - not that you'd know, of course. Why bother with reality, when half-truths fit one's view so much better, eh?

Take a core 2 duo processor, compare it with windows XP and windows Vista.. is it the same speed?

Your comparing Apples and Pears.
S60 is slower becuase it multi-tasks and several other things.
Vista is slower because it's trying to be pretty, like a pretty girl but she has less brains than my back-end ;)
Oh my! Look at what I've started! :D
I know that N73 is old, that's why I'm looking for a replacement, and let's just say that I'm looking for something different, I'm tired of Nokias, to me, N95 is not that different, I know it's far superior in every single aspect, but what I meant was that it's still a Nokia, same looks, same looking OS,...
Back on topic,
I saw on one of Diamond's video reviews on YouTube a guy saying that he disabled something on the settings of the phone that made it run much faster and smoother, I believe it had to do with networks or so, I don't really remember though!
if you disable TouchFlo interface, then everything should run faster, though will be very ugly.

Shakal AFAIK its comparable to SirfStar III or maybe a little bit worse but still much better than the one used in n95 and rest of nokias.
No, it wasn't the TouchFlo, he disabled something at the connectivity options but I couldn't remember it for the life of me!
As I said before, I think this is related to TouchFLO:
"By disabling TF3D we were able to get down to around 40% memory use after a restart, and navigating through Windows Mobile was noticeably snappier, though still not perfect."
Maybe some other tweaks can result in faster menu browsing as well?

I would advise to not be an early adopter with this device. Wait at least till the first ROM-update has been released as the speed and responsiveness of the Diamond at this point is pretty disappointing. It will get better, but it's better to not get a bad impression about the Diamond just because HTC hasn't tweaked it right yet.

Well it allready avilable in dubai - ksa & Bahrin for about 900$ which is kinda reasonable for a new device , the global price also is 750$ .
in malaysia they are selling it for RM2700

I played with it today @ Media Markt, it looks GREAT, but the screen is still the good old unsensitive HTC screen...

Have you tried it after the new ROM update?
Also Symbian maybe easier at first to get used to but its a much more closed system than any WM device so from that perspective it really is akin to childs play. :-)
Marwarn check XDA Developers forum for your SMS problem.
Seems like it lacked a month or so of additional polishing...TouchFlow 3D now runs noticeably better after the update, at least according to BGR:
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/06/26/htc-touch-diamond-firmware-fix-hands-on
Yeah I read similar things over on XDA. I want to see some videos on youtube though so I can see for myself.
marwan74 you must've transferred your contacts using some software. coming from a different OS.
this ones worth a try IMO...
just edit one of your contacts, on the phone itself, and then send a message to him/her... works ? if it works then its one of those compatibility problems. it happens. you'll need to edit all your contacts on the phone or using a software that comes with the phone/compatible with it.

it's a shame the Diamond and Pro don't record in VGA/30fps with all this power!
I wonder why Xperia is expected to handle VGA/30fps considering that its processor is just identical to HTC touch. video drivers again?
Is the screen made of scratch free glass like the iphone has?
:rotate:
video drivers again?
Yes..........
Wishmaster89
03-07-2008, 15:23
Uchiha Sasuke If its the case of video drivers then both phones should be affected because qualcomm was sued by broadcom for some patents including those that concern video encoding\decoding etc.
So I think that if X1 will in the end record in VGA resolution and diamond/touch pro wont it will be only because HTC decided so and not because they have drivers issue.

Probably its phone maker in this case HTC with qualcomms support and that means both x1 and Diamond/Touch Pro should have the same drivers.

There is another new firmware (not official for download but can get it here and there) and this is even faster then the june rom update.

There is another new firmware (not official for download but can get it here and there) and this is even faster then the june rom update.
The system is now very snappy, no slowdowns, each rom update feels like a huge improvement - I'm very happy! Browsing the net with Opera is like 200% faster or something.
how does it compare to Iphone with this update?

nice!!! write a small review if u can.
I got the MDA Compact IV which is T-Mobile's version of the Touch Diamond.
It's my first Windows based phone and I cannot stand the keyboard/text input. It's appalling. Is it just a case of getting used to it?
Also, I cannot login to Facebook. It doesn't recognise my login details (my e-mail and password is correct). I don't understand it.
I can't log in to MySpace either (thought I'd test it due to the issues I have with Facebook).
When I try to browse sites it seems to keep jumping back to the homepage randomly and I'm finding web browsing to be a complete farce. I mean how simple should web browsing be? I don't know if the device is the issue (most likely) or if IE & Opera Mobile are the cause of it.
So far I'm highly unimpressed and immensely frustrated.
Steve78, which keyboard are you using? I find the T9 keypad on Touch Diamond rather good (though a real, physical keyboard is of course preferable).
Sounds strange with the login problems you have. I have tried the new Opera 9.5 beta on my KS20 and it didn't seem to be able to input text in text entry fields (like the name and password fields on a web page). Is it the same problem you have? If so, I think it's a bug with the early version of the new Opera 9.5. Haven't experienced the same problem with Internet Explorer, though I rarely use that browser at all.
Steve78 can you change the pink color to normal flow 3D color of the OS?
Just held one the first time today...gosh, that thing is TINY. Very very nice!
Unfortunately it wasn't powered :(
ahah, me too held one many times but it wasnt powered netiher

ah, i wondered why t-mobile didnt have it on their website yet. can't believe they took the diamonds off the back, and changed the colour from black! hope your experience gets better anyway.
mda compact iv (http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-phones/phones/pay-monthly/t-mobile/mda-compact-iv/overview/).
I had a 30 min go of the T Mobile branded handset. The phone is incredibly small, light and well constructed. However I can't believe how slow the operating system is. It slower than the Samsung Tocco and thats saying something.
It was like a chore going through all the options, the web browsing via Opera 9.5 wasn't exactly great.
Nice looking phone, shame about the bells and whistles windows 6.1 OS.

I think TF3D Config can do that:

ROM-update
How easy is it for a "normal" user to do such an upgrade at home?
I've decided to send mine back. It's arguably the most frustrating device I've ever used. With the exception of the fabulous screen, everything about it frustrates and annoys me. It's bloody awful.

well i've just bought mine today and i have to say that i'm absolutely dazzled by the fabulous screen. although the device's sluggishness is quite noticeable, i'm confident that updates will be released so this problem will have a quick fix. besides, i've already read that a new battery can be bought with a higher capacity, so if i deem it necessary i will change that too.
apart from these drawbacks, i preferred this phone to the iPhone 3g. the mobility, accessibility, bundle of programs and 3rd party appz that are available for win mobile just blew me away.
i will keep you guys posted with all the other things i'll find worth mentioning.
p.s. vodafone price : 370 EUROs

what's so frustating about? the UI?
make sure you always update your firmware, there are huge increases in speed with the later versions
Is it true that you cannot assign a different ringtone to a specific contact?
Hey
I know, and users of this phoen too - that there isnt much UK cities, but i have read on the web that with a bit of modifying, you can add ur own city and it's weather data to ur weather tab on ur diamond.
Has anyone tried this yet by reading some articles on the web??????
Baiscy it's along the lines of ading ur city to the list and directing a server or sometyhing which has that city's weather info - using accuweather website.
These links give help.

Good Speed imo
I have downloaded some full keyboards, which have bigger buttons which can be pressed using ur finger instead of stylus, however with these keyboards, you type and copy the text, and you can paste it to ms mobile word as it has the paste feature. But i cant paste the copied text to a new text message, as their is no paste action.
Is their anyway to overcome this?
Surely you can paste text from one place to a text message, i know with a Sony Ericsson, you can copy/paste text in text messages.
uzee, try tapping on the screen and hold it for a few seconds - a drop-down menu with copy/paste should appear :)

thanx, got it now, dont think anyone would have worked that out without reading it somewhere.
Copy paste should be in the menu on bottom right.
gotta another question
I have my contacts as vcard files, edited and saved through outlook Express 2007. How can i move these contacts from my PC to the HTC diamond???
I have the Windows Mobile Centre installed. This has basic sync options like choices such as - contacts, email, notes etc. It doesnt really tell me the location of where the contacts are syncing on the PC.
Basicly i need to move my contacts from PC to HTC Diamond, please help.
uzee, your Diamond should automacially sync with all your contacts in Outlook - if you have checked that box somewhere in the syncronization options. I use ActiveSync, so I don't know exactly how Windows Mobile Device Center works in that regard, but I assume it's the same.
see, with the device centre it odnt know what software it syncs with. Also i odnt know which way it is syncing - from PC to phone, phone to PC, or both ways.
I was thinking of using active sync as it has more options, and think like u said - can use outlook. However active sync only works on XP, not vista, so gonna have to do it on laptop.
Anyone tell me if im wrong, but the windows mobile device centre doesnt tell/show where the contacts are sync - PC to phone? Phone to PC? Or both ways?
uzee here is the link for the Snyc centre for vista, that should do it ;)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/sync-center.aspx
right ok solved the transferring of contacts from PC phone. All you do is open outlook express with the contacts imported. Connect phone and open windows device centre. Then the software will sync with outlook - copying contacts to phone.
uzee, I'm pretty sure it syncs both ways - and if there are duplicates I think it takes the newest and update the individual fields.
Just bought a diamond, oh my god LOL im gonna return this piece of junk! HTC is actually doing great job with touchflo3D, but it felt so incomplete, its like the scrolling is not like it should've been or should be.
VGA screen, is nothing special, even when surfing its not enough to enjoy the real experience we have on our laptop or PC, heck even netbook beats it.
and the last, now i know why many people hates WM! lol its soooo NOT userfriendly, but its really advanced OS!
pro of diamond:
-Eye candy UI
-Excellent design, the best design ive seen in the last 12 months
- Some part the UI react really good, especially when in ''phone'' window. its pretty smooth.
- Opera is miles ahead of S60 browser ive been using for years and years.
This phone responsiveness feels so incomplete, thats the real major flaw of this phone, and Microsoft please!! scaled down windows wont work on small screen! how the hell should press that tiny icon/text with my fingers, its hard even using stylus!
from my experience, i have a bad feeling about HTC touch pro and Xperia X1.
gotta try Pro next week, and hopefully X1 in November
http://www.theunwired.net/?item=choice-htc-unveils-a-white-htc-touch-diamond-windows-mobile-smartphone
The screen is pretty much state of the art, However the res is wasted somewhat, same res on a 3.5" screen would be much better, had all generations of Tflo and i must say that Samsungs Touchwhizz is much better in terms of feedback and responsiveness.
Touch Pro adds very little to the spec of the diamond, but it does add about 50% to the weight and bulk, for it's size and weight, nothing comes remotely close to the performance and spec of the Diamond!!

Why not the front fascia white :?: they just look odd imo.
Another thing, is build quality up to scratch with iPhone? As i'm really tempted by this, oh and whats AD2P support like?

For those having problems with UI responsiveness check out the threads on tweaking the device over at xda-developers. Some registry changes to caching etc, and some Advanced Config changes will give you a much more responsive device (of course you should also be on HTCs latest firmware).
My Touch Pro was very laggy before applying the tweaks, but is now good.

Mweb Sod AD2P now :p I've decieded it's more economical to use my shuffle if I plan on doing that :p
And another thing, what applications do you use, and have you changed the default keyboard?
Thanks :)
French HTC fans will be pleased to know that the HTC Diamond is now available in 7 new colors in the country. Besides the original black color, you can also now get it in white, yellow, pink, red, blue, purple or brown.

Hi
One problem with the phone. Somehow the text message section on the phone has reduced it's text size to a smaller size. The text for reading mgs is small, not when creating new msg.
pleez help
checked settings etc and setting for text size is normal in the screen options, but still see the text size for reading msgs small.
I couldn't resist it and got one too.
Anybody know how to get chinese support on it?
Currently running Dutty's rom and I gotta say that HTC did a fine job with TouchFlo, I mean, it looks great.
Still..winmob is really outdated...in user friendliness.
heres a few performance boost for htc diamond.
config modding.

for able to that you gonna need to download `advance config tool` or `PHM registry editor`
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-advanced-configuration-tools-v2-0-2-0.html
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/11/27/workaround-to-install-phm-registry-editor-in-windows-mobile-5-and-6-wm5-and-wm6/
happy tweaking.
ps. do this on your own will! im not responsible for anything.
hey
gotta another question for the diamond
You know how you can save a received msg in ur drafts. Is it possible to have a another new folder where you can save msgs?
uzee yes thats possible but you have to disable the 'sms conversation' by tweaking one of the reg key value via PHM editor
another question, can u recommend any good websaites which have NEW windows mobile games????
