Well myself, I always like to have the skins in a skins folder as it is easier that way. On main screen, I go to:

More>Change skins>open file skins>

select the drive. ( E: ) would be my Sony memory card and phone memory would be ( C: ). And then you simply enter the folder where the two files are - the kds and kdi file. Skins are loaded from the kds file as the kds file when viewed in a text editor on Windows, is simply configuration telling KD player application the particular skin's dimensions and proportions and also author information.

Yes = KD Player is completely free and is in full versions. It is not open-source though (for those of you that would like to play with code).

NOTE: KD Player does not automatically update its music library which would be good each time you add/remove music from your memory card/phone memory. You have to do this automatically by selecting 'Update Library' - this is a very quick update process in seconds. I have 2,000 tracks and KD player has updated to 2,032 in 20 seconds.

Version 0.86 reads album art from a jpg file that you have to place and rename to 'folder' > (folder.jpg). Then on the basis that you add music to your memory card in each album foilder simply place the image inside the album folder then KD would read it instantly - it works.

0.88 (test version) which is still in beta and I think only in Russian and not translated can read embedded album art (which is added inside the mp3).

To test embedded art on version 0.88 beta simply first install 0.88 from the webpage link in the previous message and then use any decent id3 tag editor program on Windows such as mp3Tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/); add the art and send to your mobile phone, sorry for long message hope this helped- has anyone tested?

1. Beta version's for this particular app always are released in Russian (the authors native tongue), unless you can read Russian the only other option would be to do what we all do and wait for the new version's final (which is always then translated into full English lang).

-- with a program on your pc like WinRar you can extract the contents of the .jad file of KD player installer and see if any of you guys here can translate - I know that mobile-review is a main Russian website anyways so there gotta be someone here.

2. Skin making is very possible as people on other forum (forums.se-nse.net) are still doing it, it takes a bit of time and depends what sort of look ya like, many have made great Walkman skins some of what I have posted in this thread above.

stupid symbian security really ruins this app, it asks for permission to do everything! D: It's like vista :P

(and it gives a cryptic error when trying to play something, definitely not for s60 :P edit: I managed to make it play, but I needed to authorize it to "read user data" a lot!)

yet another edit: I discovered how to make it much faster and play files properly, I disabled the "read tags from application" (?!) option and marked the read tags from phone, but now it doesn't recognize any artists, just the song name and album... and the confirmation to read user data still is there.

but i have a problem:
My phone keeps bugging me with "do you allow the application to acces the file system" (or something like that)

I tryed to set the permissions in tha preferences for the application, but there is no "allow always" option...

What should I do?
Has somebody a suggestion?

hey trita...after going to 'folders for scanning'....u gotta go to 'menu'...then 'add folder'...now u can see the list of folders...go into the C:/ drive till sounds folder or wherever u have ur songs copied...

To see songs in playlist....u gotto go to main menu screen...go to 'menu'...then 'update library'...

First u need to add a folder for scanning...

go to main screen ....'menu'>'setting'>'folder for scanning'>'menu'>'add folder'...keep selecting yes until you highlight the folder with songs...then 'select folder'

now when you update library in the main menu screen...you'll see all songs listed

has anyone achieved to use it on a samsung d840 ? i have just installed but the menus arent working they meant to be and it fails to show the directory structure. d840 supports jsr75 which i think the application needs to work. Should i do some kind of permission tweak?

+ i see Halmer signed .jad files but unable to download them because the links are all dead..

I have both the .89 and .91 versions , with many skins but i have a major problem,
every time i start this app, the library is empty (along with playlists), whereas the previous version stored it.
Any help around?
I have tried updating the music library and it doesnt work!
I have SE k810 right now.. It worked fine with my previous N73 (except for the annoying messages)

Yes you must exit from the 'Menu' in KD Player and not exit by holding the standard Sony Ericsson return key or else you will loose your tracks and playlists in the library.

Remember that, exit from the 'Menu'

bro...dont go by the font you see in my previews...i have taken the snapshots from an emulator...so its not the exact font of a SE phone...

when u copy the skin to your phone, u'll find a much smoother font...:)

This is the video tutorial explaining creation of kdi and kds file. I have used Ulead photoimpact to make the skins. So, Please use any image editting tool and the tools equivalent to the ones I have used in the video.

I will not understand whence undertake such big numbers as for example (<bkgnd2 315,0,443,160>) 315,443. Where these co-ordinates to look? (Sriram what version at you Ulead PhotoImpact). At me 12 version. (I from Russia and I meanwhile not so know English language.)

Hurrah there was new version KD of a player which it is possible to download on an official site of developers http://www.easter-eggs.net.ru/

What changes were undergone by a player.

1. The equalizer for new models of phones is added
And. Adjustment Bass and Treble
. Possibility of manual adjustment
Century Possibility to create the installations
Of 4 standard installations (Fate, Pop, Classical music, the Jazz)
2. Function the Vospr./pause for a chamber key on phones SE is added.
3. The error in adjustment of loading AlbumArt is corrected
4. Definition of the size of a file in a window "Information" is changed
5. Work with the keyboard on UIQ 3.0 is partially changed
6. Menu and text display in the inquiry is partially changed
7. The "Gratitude" point in the menu "In addition" is added

Here the list of phones which support the EQUALIZER in Java-appendices contains.
It can be incomplete! If your phone supports this function in the player menu there will be a command "Equalizer".

The quantity of strips of an equalizer and realisation of its work depends on model of phone and is set by its manufacturer.
For Nokia Series 40 and Sony Ericcson JP-8 it is 5 strips + 2 front pages of adjustment Bass and Treble.

Version 0.86 reads album art from a jpg file that you have to place and rename to 'folder' > (folder.jpg). Then on the basis that you add music to your memory card in each album foilder simply place the image inside the album folder then KD would read it instantly - it works.

0.88 (test version) which is still in beta and I think only in Russian and not translated can read embedded album art (which is added inside the mp3).

To test embedded art on version 0.88 beta simply first install 0.88 from the webpage link in the previous message and then use any decent id3 tag editor program on Windows such as mp3Tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/); add the art and send to your mobile phone, sorry for long message hope this helped- has anyone tested?

Or, he just use an J2ME ID3-Tag editor.

But the main thing i was just registered me today, is this Player.

Guys, i don't even know how much hard work is it it is incredible, just amazing.

Especially the Skins "iPod Landscape" - beautyful !
Not just the shiny interface, most the smart controls that change (if you make the skin akive);

They rotate around to get the controls fit to the interface. :D


In fact, the KD-Player is the best music player for mobile phones ! :)

Another take on a Walkman - this time it´s the Japan-only SO905i. Well at least I designed the player screen after it´s real-life model and because it looks kinda boring spiced up the whole thing.

KD Player 0.95 has one or two bugs in particular with landscape skins in that when a skin is changed the top and bottam menu bars of skin sort of freeze. Anothe problem is that the 'wait' image of a landscape skin cannot show on version 0.95

Another chaos7 innovation and this time it could actually be a world premiere, or does anyone know a software or hardware player which displays multiple album art?

Tutorial:
KD Player can read album art from folder and/or ID3 tags, this is the key function for WSA.
In order to make this work, custom made images in format 2a x a (lenght two times the height: 600x300, 800x400, ...) are needed. The easiest way to use is having standard pictures in the ID3 tags, custom pictures in the folders and the application usually set to read from tags. Then, when switching to a WSA skin just set to read from folder.
Those custom album art pics can be composed as you like them, I usually use a front cover and as second part back cover, inlet or artist/band photo.

- Media Center look, using extracted original graphics.
- All controls implemented in the sidebar.
- Decent volume indicator, visible from 00-90 (100 invisible). The indicator spoils the clean look and because I
usually have KD Player set to 100%, indication is only needed when I accidently lowered the volume. This is the
best solution for this skin.
- "invisible" shuffle and repeat indicators, only highlighted when pressed
