does anyone thinks that the features in mobiles have come to an end ? i mean we talk about either music or camera or may be a gps but nobody use it in india i think, whenever a mobile is launched we either talk about more megapixels of camera or better sound through loudspeakers etc, apart from talking about softwares in phones if we see the exterior , only left is camera or playing music , what i think is flexibility and features in mobiles have come to an end, companies should think of something unique and innovative apart from those more megapixels.

Then you should try diff brands. Try LG, Samsung, moto. and yes you should try SE, SE mobiles are fun to play with. wont get boring even after months and months of use.

i think we should lower our expectations a little bit,all what manufacturers are thinking about right now is gaining money and taking over other companies.
but the thing that will sure get me excited is phones that combine amazing music, camera, and gaming capabilities! i think i should expect that from nokia!

Try a smartphone, doesn't get boring very soon. Plus there are tons of applications to get you going forever.

Thats not true divooneh23, its quite easy to get bored of smarphones aswell imo.

Nice thread btw!!!

I can definatley say that despite the advances in features phones do seem to be getting a bit boring these days. The iphone has really excited most people from a design perspective not to mention the possibilites of an entirley touch screen interface so hopefully that in itself will give these companies some inspiration. Weve already seen a glimpse of what Nokia may do but id like all companies to follow suit.

divooneh23, I agree completely - if you really use (or start to use) a smartphone to its fullest, it keeps surprising you with new stuff every once in a while. And additional programs can make a lot of difference between boring and cool...

..Well, when I wonder if things are going downhill, I just think back and remember when an entire new nokia- series was launched with the greatest in new mobile inventions ever(!) to be produced.. "polyphonic ringtones". And they all cost twice as much as the "old" phones. And all the manufacturers followed with their own "brand new" phone with even more blip- blop just not to be outdone.

And no, new mobiles are not boring.

phones are becoming pretty standard though - nothing over the top like back in the day. Theres only so much you can put on a mobile phone - i mean what isnt on a phone yet? A microwave? A fridge?

Phones are getting more interesting IMO.

They're getting smarter, thinner and having better features. They're like fat ugly chicks getting make overs.

I certainly don't find S60 boring. Even the 7650 still amuses me.

mmm.... why not try using a buggy phone? Or one that hangs or resets? At the very least, you'll be thinking about so many problems, that you'll never get bored.  (just joking)

seriously.... if you're bored with the features of your phone, why not try to add more? (by installing other apps). This is an area where smartphones are good at... especially s60... coz aside from Java, they can support other formats too. (like symbian, flash, etc...).

I think the mainly the reason why people like to talk about cameras or music... is that most phone makers continue to flaunt these, as their main selling points. Like SE, for example, having a K-series phones focused on cameras, and a W-series phones focused on music. Nokia with their N-series phones focused on multi-media, and E-series phones focused on business. It's all a matter of marketing - and where they like to sell their products to.

as for flexibility... mmm, like what else would you like your phone to do?

cheers!

feature phones for me were nice but nothing compared to smartphones.
it looks like flash lite 3.0 is bringing youtube to smartphones :D

I want that 6630 concept from yonks ago.

I remember it having a:

5+ megapixel camera with 10x optical zoom.
Swiss Army Knife
Cigarette Lighter
...and tonnes more!!

Some companies are becoming a bit stagnant like SE & Motorola.

Samsung, Nokia & LG are keeping things fresh. I am particularly impressed with what Nokia has done lately.

From the new 6500 Slide, to the N95 8GB & N81, to the 5610 & 5310, these phone are the future.

At this rate of technological growth in mobile phones, there is plenty more to be done to keep the masses happy.

I wonder why south asia particularly India is behind compare to the rest of emerging asian countries in the surrounding region.

Boring, yeah kind of, real innovation is rare these days, I'm waiting to see something that knocks my socks off :D, something like a 1.7" ccd sensor in a phone for example.

Yup, agree that there's lots still to be done... like something like this, for example:

or maybe something like this:

... and we haven't even yet ventured into bendable screens, and holographic displays.

cheers!

Without battery power its hard to handle what we have now

This is the only feature currently I am interested in a modern phone.

My operator doesn't even support 3G, and I live in the capital city of Europe... ;)

So yes even Z610i's Technologies are more or less upto date..

The feature that I am anticipating is a large screen that folds in half to fit the pocket. That's right a screen that fills both halves of a folding phone. Just like a king size iPhone that folds in two. :)

Interesting thread... Well, mobiles phones do start become a bit boring, but that`s because they`re today much more commercialized than before...

the more software an os has, the better. oh and someone come up with a browser resembling ie already!

Oh god no *urgh*

Have you tried others and still like IE best? Because that would be the first time I heard that tbh...

BrightSpark

it's all to do with expectation for me.
i don't think that mobiles are becoming boring because they're there to be used - ie to be useful. if it does the job of which i expect from it, then it serves its purpose. if i expect to get a phone with good call quality, yet with very bare features, then it suits its purpose. if i get a phone expecting the call quality to be good, yet isn't, then i will get tired of it quickly.

let's face it, those people who tire of things quickly will get bored of ANY phone quickly ....even if it had a holodeck.

i would rather have no browser than have to use that piece of junk.

i was just saying that i would rather have ie than the current mobile browsers, even 3rd edition's. i want proper formatting everywhere. :)
ps i'm on safari buggy.
