OK.....here goes nothin'

I got home form work today and my phone was waiting for me.

I promptly opened the box, which looked classy BTW, and took out all the components & phone.

First, I will comment on the overall build of the Slide:

It is, without a doubt, the most solid phone I have ever held in my hand. It has a certain weight to it that conveys it is a phone that was made for people who don't like, or care about carrying around light phones. It feels heavy & solid. The stainless steel is beautiful. It has a nice brushed look to it that makes it look quite expensive & classy.

The Slide mechanism is the absolute best I have ever felt. It has dual springs so it takes just a tiny bit of pressure to open & close the slide. It opens & closes with a satisfying "click" each time. The navigation keys are big & beautiful. You will never hit the wrong key & the D-pad is phenomenal.

Now on to the Display:

The display is nice, however, mobileburn was right in that the display could have been a bit brighter. It isn't hard to see or anything, but if it had the display of the N95, or the N75, it would be a first class display. I wish there was user brightness control. There is this nice little feature that enables you to still see the icons on the screen even when the back-light is off.

The carrier logo and the time & date are done in a smallish, tasteful manner. There is a function that allows you to choose which color you want to use for the font of the date. You can choose from close to 30+ different colors for the time & date. There is a function to turn off the carrier logo, however, when I enable it, it still stays on?? I will have to figure this one out.

On to the Keypad:

The keypad is quite good with the perfect amount of tactile feedback. You know which key is pushed because it depresses nicely & springs back effortlessly. There are some strange caricatures on the numbers 1,2,3,4,&5. I don't know if it Chinese characters as they only exist on the 1-5 keys. The box & the rest of the pics show no such markings. It isn't a big deal though. They are hardly worth mentioning.

Now the UI:

I LOVE S40. It is so easy to learn & navigate. I haven't owned an S40 Nokia in quite some time, so I am a bit in the dark as to what improvements were made to the 5th edition. It came with the usual ringtones, 25 I think, with 7 pre-loaded themes, I really like the Black Nth with the planet screensaver There are 13 alert tones. There are 7 profiles, each one customizable.

Now the Camera:

I only took a few shots, but to me the camera is more than adequate. The pics come out clear with little to no noise in them. I didn't mess with the camera settings, so maybe I can get even better shots.

Now the Call Quality:

Here is where mobileburn was waaay off. The call reception is amazing. I just moved into a new house 1 yr. ago & there was a "dead" spot from 56th street all the way to 72nd street. I could never make/take calls while driving along this stretch of road. The slide showed no call dropping along this stretch whatsoever. My girlfriends voice was clear & never sounded garbled. I didn't drop a call once.

Now the speakers:

The Slide has a very nice speaker on it. It is loud enough to hear in your pocket even on setting 2. The vibration is also quite strong and will still be felt through jeans or a hoodie. The earpiece was sufficient. I didn't have a problem hearing others, nor others hearing me. My girlfriend did say that she could sometimes hear background noise (the TV) even though it was turned down.

I have yet to test the TV out or the music player. I will post my results along with some pics of the display & the phone later tonight possibly.

From what I have seen so far, this is Nokia's quintessential S40 phone. There is no competition I can think of in this price range when you factor in all the features, and most of all the build quality. I really can't say enough on what a good job Nokia did on this phone. It makes me want the Classic as well, since I am so impressed with the Slide.

This concludes the initial first impression of the Slide. More in-depth analysis on the music player and the TV out, along with the other features I have yet to test out thoroughly will follow.

If you have any question, ask away. I will answer them to the best of my ability considering my limited time with the Slide so far.

Fantastic that your happy with it, I can't wait to hear about your experiences with the music player

Brilliant user review :jump:. You've enlightened me with some things I've been wanting to find out (slider mechanism build quality, ring volume, etc) and also thanks for clearing up the call quality as well. From Mobile-review and your user review combined, this sounds like it IS the perfect mid range phone, and I'm thankful I decided to wait for this one and not buy the 7500.

On to the Keypad:

Yes, these are Chinese characters usually found on phones in Asia. All my previous Nokia phones I've owned have these too (I have no issue with their presence). If I'm not mistaken, there should be an extra character on the "#" button as well, isn't there?

Try to create a new SMS then left button 'options > writing language'.... is there a 'Chinese' language option there? :-/

Edit: Any info on whether multitasking is possible? http://www.mobile-review.com/review/s405thedition-en.shtml towards the end of the review...it says the unsure-ness whether v5 FP1 can multitask

Enjoy your new phone :)

Pics are below this post.

The music player is well above average. There are many customizable listening features such as ROCK, POP, JAZZ, etc.....You can search songs via Playlists, Artists, Albums, & Genres. You also have your standard Repeat, EQ, and the not-so-impressive stereo widening. I don't notice much difference whether it is on or off.

I am confused (& a little pissed off) in the sense that according to Mobile-Review's review of the Slide, it said that the music player has 7 skins on the music player. My phone has just one other than the Default.

Where in the hell are the other 6?? The simply do not show up under the "Music Player Themes" Do they need to be downloaded, or
did Nokia omit them on the production models? Does it have anything to do with the fact that I have an Asian version of the phone?

TO THE MODS:

If anyone has some time, would it be possible to find out where the customizable music player skins vanished too?

Thanks!!

Nokia has got me wrapped around it's finger. I can only hope the N81 is going to be a great phone as well.

Probably because you have the Asian model, Nokia bundle different things for different countries

Don't hold your breath, it's heavy but it certainly isn't made of stainless steel ;)

GSMarena has a new video of the 6500 slide available. It shows the camera in action, the UI, etc.

Since I cannot seem to make a simple link in this forum, the link address is below.

I have never heard the speakers on the 6233, so I cant compare the two. It has just 1 speaker, but it is a 64 chord polyphonic speaker, & it sounds phenomenal. The ringtones & music are clear, & it is easily heard from far away, or in a coat or jeans pocket.

There is no distortion even when the volume is at max.

Wilbur....

Yes...I will post some cam shots when I get a second. I want to take both some indoor & outdoor pics.

People are knocking the camera, saying it isn't very good, so I am anxious to see how they come out.

But even the pics I saw here on the review for the Slide & the mobileburn review, the pics looked acceptable to me.

I have a nice Digicam already, so a great camera isn't a major priority. TBO, the main reason I bought it was the build of it & it was made from stainless steel.....and of course...its a SLIDER:D

MobileSlider
07-10-2007, 06:51
Franz.....

Yes, I did check out the TV out. It is quite impressive. It hooks up quite easily with the supplied cable right to the video & audio hook-ups.

I watched some videos on my TV with it & it was OK. Granted it isn't spectacular, but I was impressed considering it is an S40 device.

It would be cool if in the future Nokia was able to make the TV out cables hook up to my component inputs on my HDTV.

I like Mobileburn reviews. However, I must say I was thoroughly disappointed them (apparently) going the way of Mobile-Review, i.e. _P_reviewing pre-production models for both 6500 Slide and Classic. IMO, this should be stopped by them immediately if they want to retain the respect they currently have...

@ MobileSlider, a basic question after I saw a friend's flash animation background on her SE phone yesterday:
Are you able to use flash-based themes for the background of the 6500 Slide?

MobileSlider,
excellent review. I will take a closer look on this phone as I used to like/love 6280 but was totaly disappointed with slider/software issue. Very glad this is history now, and 6500 being Nokia slider at its best. One question: is it possible to charge phone via USB cable or this goes only for 6500 classic?

Well people DO complain if reviews are late you know Vipottaja, would you REALLY rather wait untill the items are commercialy on sale in Russia?, sometimes they NEVER release stuff in M-Rs country of origin, in which case you might never actually get a review!!

MobileSlider
10-10-2007, 22:09
Actually. despite what info has been released, the phone CAN'T be charged via the USB cable. It is solely for data transfer.

You charge it via an AC adapter with a single pin charge port.

jezzmatezz ....Yes the phone does support A2DP, & yes you can set the phone to "auto-lock" when you slide down the phone.

Although one bug I have noticed about the "auto-lock" function, is when you enable it & someone calls, the phone sometimes freezes when you try to unlock the phone so you can answer a call.

It's nothing major, as a simple re-start of the phone fixes the freeze-up.

I will post some pics taken with the cam shortly.

EDIT:.....NOW I AM NOT SURE IF IT SUPPORTS A2DP. IT SAYS SO ON GSMARENA.COM & OTHER SOURCES, BUT IT IS NOT IN THE USER MANUAL, NOR ON THE NOKIA WEBSITE.

TBO...I AM A BIT IN THE DARK AS TO WHAT A2DP ACTUALLY IS.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW FOR SURE??

thanks, impressive pictures! :)

as to the IMEI code, i heard that if someone has access to the network(your provider) or a hacker, they can block your phone from the network using the IMEI code.

it's something i've heard several times, i hope someone in here could shed some light on this topic.

EDIT: K850 is out here, so what will it be for me, 6500 with a 3.2mp CZ cam and VGA/15fps video recording, or a K850 5mp cam with QVGA/30fps recording??? ...think marwan, think!

btw, does the 6500 record video in mpeg format or 3gpp?

thanks again!

and btw, A2DP is basically a bluetooth profile that enables streaming of stereo music to a bluetooth stereo headphones.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A2DP#Advanced_Audio_Distribution_Profile_.28A2DP.2 9

Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)

This profile defines how high quality audio (stereo or mono) can be streamed from one device to another over a Bluetooth connection[1] - for example, music streamed from a mobile phone to a wireless headset.

A2DP was initially used in conjunction with an intermediate Bluetooth transceiver that connects to a standard output audio jack, encodes the incoming audio to a Bluetooth-friendly format, and sends the signal wirelessly to Bluetooth headphones that decode and play the audio. However, many Bluetooth 1.1, 1.2, and 2.0 mobile phones and portable media players do not natively support A2DP, while some newer Bluetooth 2.0 headphones do support it.

Bluetooth headphones, especially the more advanced models, often come with a microphone and support for the Audio/Video Remote Control (AVRCP), Headset (HSP) and Hands-Free (HFP) profiles.

A2DP[2] is designed to transfer a 2-channel stereo audio stream, like music from an MP3 player, to a headset or car radio. This profile relies on AVDTP and GAVDP. It includes mandatory support for low complexity Sub Band Codec (SBC) and supports optionally: MPEG-1,2 Audio, MPEG-2,4 AAC and ATRAC, and is extensible to support manufacturer-defined codecs. Most bluetooth stacks implement the SCMS-T DRM (digital rights management) scheme. In these cases it is not possible to connect the A2DP headphones for high quality audio. E.g. the Motorola HT820 can be used for high quality audio only with certain versions of the Toshiba bluetooth stack.

This probably won't help the problem, but.....

did you take the pics with dual LED flash activated?

did you take the pics on Night Mode? (I know this sounds silly, but the best quality pics can be taken like this because it gets pretty much all the light it needs)

What can someone actually do with my IMEI number??

they can have your phone blocked so it can't do anything phone-related (make calls, send sms's, etc)

dear forum friends,

had a chance to play around with 6500 slide and compare it side by side with my old 6280. Here are my comments in breif:

Size and weight
6500 is shorter and thinner then 6280 and feels much better "in hands". I guess this is due to overall volume of 73cc comparing to 6280's 91cc. 6500 feels much smaller. Its also 8g more weight than 6280 but you don't feels this. So 123g as much as it seems heavy on the paper actually is pretty fine (it gives some sort of professional feel of the phone). Also 6500 doesn't feel "hollow" like 6280.

Screen
Brilliant! 6280 looks like washed out comparing to 6500. All menu items look much colorful and sharp like a photopaper image. Very good view angles as well.

Menu
pretty similar to 6280 nothing impressive here, i guess difference from 6230i to 6280 was much bigger than 6280 to 6500. Of course some new intersting features here and there but everything more or less the same. What I have noticed is much faster meny response of 6500, maybe its due to bigger internal memory, maybe it has different type of flash memory built in, but memory card access is also faster (like browsing images). Does anyone know what is the ARM speed on 6500? is it 223 MHz?. One thing I DISLIKE is that in menu structure you can have only 4 items on screen (not 5 like in 6270/6280). Also for contacts you see 6 contacts displayed in 6500 vs. 8 in 6280. This is not an issue with 6500 only, but also with all new Nokia phones (except 8600 luna). the font is bigger and bolder but I wonder why Nokia didn't leave "menu font size" option. Screen size (6500 vs 6280) is pretty much the same, so this is a bit illogical to me.

Images and Video
pictures look way better than my D900 (side by side PC comparision), camera menu similar to 6280 (not so detailed like samsung G600, and not so digicam alike), but to be honest you don;t need more than that, colors are "tipical nokia" a bit saturated but I like this. Comparing to D900, its much easier to shoot images, faster so you can shoot moving objects (kids, pets) with ease. Video clips are a better than 6280 (less ghosts) but nothing spectacular. What I have noticed, 640x480 video is much "smoother" than on 6280 (i had some chops every few sec. on 6280, but this might be related to software). Also gallery access on memory card is faster on 6500 (still not like a breeze, but noticable faster).

Build quality,
Excellent (but too early to tell, to be honest).

I already have G600, but changed my mind and I will go for 6500 slide (so my wife will get G600 :) ). What I prefer in 6500 over G600 is software platform, more customization options, better memory card manipulation(especially with Gallery files). Both phones have "business" design, it's only matter of taste. Nokia once again (or should I say finally) outperformed themselves when it comes to sliders.

These are my impressions and "add-on" to MobileSlider initial and more detailed review.

MobileSlider, any chance of posting the same pictures but in their 3.2mp size?

usually resized pictures are always better than the full resolution.....im not doubting the 6500, but i'd like to compare them to my K800 and my disastrous K850(will sell soon).

thanks!

Yeah.....I am puzzled as to why mobileburn said the camera was insufficient/ It does the job adequately & then some.

It is an above average camera phone, packed into an all metal, beautifully designed, with just the perfect amount of user friendly features slider phone.

TBO.....I really don't think I will see another handset that impresses me more than this in quite some time.

It is exactly what I wanted. It's as if Nokia had me in mind when they made this mobile.

just a little warning about the 6500 slide.

my background: ive been using a 6280 on Tmobile since may 2006 and absolutly love it.

experiencing technical problems with it recently (unable to use up button), i finally decided to upgrade and went to tottenham court road in london to get the new 6500 simfree (i got a 6288 from Tmobile upgrade a couple of month ago that i gave to my g/f coz didnt like the small button in the middle, i have big fingers!)

got the 6500 for 340 pounds. very good impressions and really liked it straight away and i would say i agree with everything that s said about it in those reviews (great screen, pics, menus..etc basically exactly like 6280) BUT...

then i received a call....absolutly terrible sound. my g/f sounded like a robot, there was nothing human or natural about her voice, almost sounded like a different person. and she told me the same thing, my voice was muffled and robotic.

i was so gutted (after all, i use my phone to call people, ) that i returned it straight away and lost 25% of the expense in the process.

sometimes i wish companies like Nokia stick to their strength when they come with new products, especially upgrade of successful handsets. nowadays when u get a new phone, u know ur getting new features and improvements but i always feel like im losing out on a basic feature!

...im tryin to fix my 6280 as we speak, with software upgrade and stuff, hopefully that will fix the problem and i can use my 6280 forever :rotate:

I got my 6500 slide yesterday and I am really liking it so far.

It feels solid, it has a bit of weight but that is a good thing I think, gives it a sturdy feel.

The screen is great, nice and crisp and very big, pictures look great on there.

To answer a couple of the above questions:

Yes you can use the camera with the slide closed

The screen is plastic i think but very solid. Plus no dust under there yet.

The 6500 Slide has a micro SD slot, located behind the back door and hot swappable. It's the 6500 Classic which has no memory card slot.

Customize message tones = Yes on all (well, except low end) Nokia phones

Steve, you're totally right. I can confirm this as I have had same issue with 6280, it takes about 2 months till Nokia identifies, change and publish new updates (firmwares), and of course make it available at local Service Point. Lets hope with this "online" updates it will work faster :)

I think I know what you mean and I have just looked and when you highlight an icon in the menu it animates and becomes larger. When it becomes larger the edges are SLIGHTLY less smooth. Animation seems fine though. I don't see why this would be an important factor though.

I really do like the 'Nokia look' though. I wasn’t too pleased with my 6233 as it was a bit chunky, but I love my Nokia 6300 as the size is perfect, the screen is superb, the build quality excellent, the S40 UI fantastic and the only slight drawback was that the keypad was a bit fiddly to use. The 6500 classic has all the plus features of the 6300 plus a lot more that I hope to discover tonight :)

The Nokia philosophy appears to be "if it isn’t broken, don’t try and fix it!" I presume the 6233 successor will build upon the 6500’s strengths whilst not looking much different....

I think they will add memory slot, 3.2 MP camera, reduce internal memory and voila! - nokia 6300/6500 classic succesor in candybar form.

btw - does anyone know what is the resolution of 6500 slide frontal camera? It looks smaller than one in 6280, and I think it was 0.3 MPx in 6280.

No.....My Slide's call clarity was really good. Although the SIM card reader did malfunction, & I had to send it back.

It's a new phone and it has some bugs to be worked out.

You should go to http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/ & make a thread about it.

I have heard that Nokia looks at these forums and helps trouble shoot any problems with new handsets.

Did you read my review??

Anyway......no charging is possible with USB. Charging is done with a small pin port.

When connected to PC via USB cable, charging does not take place.

Screen quality is excellent, despite no user brightness control, Slide has a light sensor, & adjusts the screen accordingly.

The Slide is an S40 phone. It is not meant to compete with the N95.

A 3.2 MP camera w/AF in an S40 phone that has TV out, supports a 4GB MicroSD card, A2DP BT & video call is just about as good as it gets in an S40 handset. It is Nokia's S40 Flagship handset.

I don't know of any SE phone that competes within the same price range as the Slide. The W910 cost more than the Slide & has only a 2MP camera with no AF.

And the prototype had a 3.2 MP Carl Zeiss lens just like the production model. Nothing was changed.

if anything its comparism should be the SE 810i or even 850i which ARE cheaper phones and as such i think it should have at least matched these for camera quality!

thats my point!
i did read somewhere that they changed the lens from the prototype NOT to compete with the N95 but my point is they made it TOO worse, if that makes any sense
if anything its comparism should be the SE 810i or even 850i which ARE cheaper phones and as such i think it should have at least matched these for camera quality!
if it did i would by it in a heartbeat

You think the pics I took look that bad??

I think it is a great camera, packed into a great phone. I don't know what everybody wants these days. I mean, you have a more than adequate camera inside your phone.

& Pacemaker....where did you read that the cam. lens was changed??

i apologies!
what i read was that the lens WAS changed from the prototype but not to a poorer one. the review puts it 'marginally worsed than the N73
until we see a direct comparism test i will stop bleating about it. please someone post some :rotate:

I currently have a nokia 6233 and one of the best features is the loudspeaker...the volume level and clarity is great...so on a call you can just hit lousdpeaker and talk away.

Can you please let me know how the 6500 Slide performs?

You can get a usb charger from here

http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/10764.htm

When you get a sms instead of just displaying "1 message recieved" it tells you who the sms is from. For example, "1 message recieved from Dave"

I wish there was a way to turn this off.

Ignore the above! Just found out how to switch that off!

God I love this phone.

Did you read my review??

Anyway......no charging is possible with USB. Charging is done with a small pin port.

When connected to PC via USB cable, charging does not take place.

This is quite strange, as in your sales package you get USB cable CA-101 and according to Nokia "Nokia Charger via USB port CA-101, Transfer and synchronize important data between your Nokia phone and computer with the Nokia Connectivity Cable CA-101, featuring high-speed USB 2.0 connectivity and phone charging."

is there any way someone can post 6280/6288 vs. 6500 slide side by side images?

Also, due to your previous experience for those who have had 6280/6288 how would you describe "slide action/movement" comparing 6280/6288 vs. 6500 slide. I would say that 6280 slide action is faster while 6500s slide action is smoother or more like a "glide", "click" is more or less similar on both phones. But as I have old 6280 I cannot say if it's just me or my phone has loose slider.

Here is the verdict on 6500 slide (can someone please translate this, thanks :D)
Plusy:
- kvalitní konstrukce
- kvalitní displej
- design - kovové kryty dělají své
- fotoaparát,video
- nové uživatelské prostředí
- přetáčení videa,hudby (nelze přetáčet s obrazem)
- hudební přehrávač
- miniusb,jack

I cant answer your query as I have never owned the N73. I missed the delivery of my replacement unit, so I wont have it until Monday. I also wasn't aware of a problem multi-tasking w/ java applications.

I am little leery of doing a Firmware upgrade already, since the phone just came out, & I have heard of people doing the upgrade & the silent function with the # key stopped working. Unless there is a major advantage with the newer firmware, I probably will skip the upgrade.

What is the Firmware upgrade supposed to improve??

From what pics I have seen of the Slide & the N73, I think the Slide's camera is superior, but that is just my opinion.

My keypad is not scratched in the slightest.

As for the other thing, I have noticed that occasionally when switching profiles that it seems to just go to General no matter what you try to switch it to. However I just restart the phone and it sorts it out. Hopefully a firmware tweak will sort this out. It's not a major thing.

Well...I got my replacement 6500 Slide today from phonesourceusa.com & much to my surprise, I got the EURO MIF version!!:jump:

I will also say this. There is, without a doubt, a difference in the build quality of the "Made in Finland" VS. the "Made by Nokia" 6500 Slide.

My Asian 6500 had bigger gaps in the slide part, the battery cover fits snugger on the MIF version, & the Slider mechanism has better keypad clearance, & won't scratch my keypad like the Asian version did.

I don't know if this MIF VS. MBN thing is with all of Nokia's phones, but it certainly rings true with the 6500 Slide.

& 1 more thing....it syncs w/PC Suite. My Asian version of PC suite failed to recognize my phone.

I wrote to phonesourceusa.com & personally thanked them for being so professional & courteous to deal with. I will buy all my phones from them from now on.

I am so damn glad to have my phone back, & it be a MIF version.

I will also say this. There is, without a doubt, a difference in the build quality of the "Made in Finland" VS. the "Made by Nokia" 6500 Slide.

For what I know, most 6500 slide/classic are made in Hungary not Finland. My old 6230i was made in Hungary (rock solid) but my 6280 was from Finland (unfortunately this "made in Finland" didn't help me a lot as build quality was far behind 6230i, plus all well known problems/issues with 6280). For Asian market, 6500 s/c were released few months prior to EU market, so I guess Nokia had a chance to "silently" upgrade all issues, flaws and quality problems of first few production line units.

btw, good luck with your new phone :jump:

My slide doesn't stop on the #5 either. It opens & closes with the just a bit of pressure.

There is one thing that kinda bothers me, & that is the fact that the battery cover on the left side of the phone has a bit more of a gap than the right side.

- i got it through cellswholesale.com and they shipped me a 'made in HK' version, not the 'made in Hungary'. any difference i should be aware of, except the chinese characters on top of the 1 through 5, and # keys?

1 year= only if you buy sony ericsson

I was not talking about SE or Nokia in particular, tech level change fastly in mobile phones and in human psychology you get bored of the same phone more than 1 year for guys and 2 years for girls!
If you were talking about durability of SE vs Nokia,it's obvious that in the middle to high end phones Nokia has much more hardware problems than SE,like paint of the body fading, screen leds burning out after 6 months etc...
The only phone made by SE that had real hardware problems is the S500 with its keys that break

Meridius.....

1) No Auto-Lock, however when you slide the top down, there is a button feature that asks if you want to lock the keypad.
2) Yes, you can set the time you want to lock the phone. I use 5 seconds on mine.
3) No screen brightness control. However, there is a light sensor built into the phone next to the video call camera, that senses the amount of light, & adjust the screen accordingly..
4) There is no dust under the screen. It is sealed quite well.

& by changing the top apps, do you mean the soft-keys, above the 2 blue buttons?

If you do mean those, then yes, you can set them to whatever you like.

It's a great phone, I can't stop ranting about it.:D

After using the 6500S the screen goes black in about 20 seconds(you can almost see the "background" if you hold it near a light). I´ve never yet seen a screensaver. Is that normal? I would like the phone to be "on" for a minute or two after a call and then I´d like the screensaver to start. Is that possible? How do I set my 6500 Slide to do that?

I´m new to Nokia... Please help!

Yes...Daddy....(I feel a little weird calling you Daddy:D)...go to:

Settings>Phone>Automatic Keygaurd>On....then just set it for the amount of time you want. 5 seconds in the minimum.

About the screensaver.....if you go to Settings>Display>Screen Saver.....you can choose your screen saver from anything you have saved on your memory card, or the default ones.

The screen will go black for around 20 seconds, but then the screen saver will start.

MobileSlider,

"The screen will go black for around 20 seconds, but then the screen saver will start."

My problem is that the screensaver never kick in. After 20 seconds the screen goes black and then it stays black. Then screen even goes black after 20 sec when I´m surfing...(Screensaver is "ON", have tried different screensavers, No Energysaver)

Another problem I´ve noticed is that the slidepart scratches the keys.

Hmmm.....Your phone may be defective, I would send it back. I have the black screen as well, but my screensaver does indeed start. And yes, some people's slide is a bit snug & causes some light scratching on the keypad. I put a custom cut screen protector over my keypad to prevent any scratches. It still opens & closes fine though.

I wonder if the Black 6500 Slide will be available anytime soon. I think I am still partial to the silver one though, but the black does indeed look really nice. I have always owned black phones, so I don't know if I will buy this one or not.

Yap!, Don't know if this is due to images only, but somehow black edition "feels" plastic, less metal than silver edition.

That's obviously a fake guys... look at the speaker grill with lightsensor and camera, compare it to the real... looks different?

EDIT: Think i know why! It's from china as we can tell from the websites, they don't have 3G there, so that's why there is no front camera and instead just a piece of plastic, and that's why they look different :p

The previous black Slide photos also came from chinese sites, so it may be available there.

I have seen both the black & silver side by side. I really don't think it is a fake. I am looking at my 6500 Slide right now, & with enough light & at a certain angle, the light sensor, & camera look completely identical.

Here are more pics of the black 6500 Slide:

Nokia sometimes does off the wall stuff for the Asian countries. I have a feeling that it will be limited to the Asia-Pacific region.

That doesn't mean we won't be able to get a hold of it though.

MobileSlider Its fake, its pathetic, screen is washed out and it has plastic casing instead of metal, its better that you don't get a hand on THAT thing, btw the symbian is ditto copy, I used both side by side the real 6500 has a great built, and its 450$ while the other one is 90$

I think there will be black version. The reason is this:
Nokia 6500 Slide
0549727 rm240_Euro_I_RU, Cyrillic, Black_Silver
This is info extracted from Russian phone. Think rest for yourself :)

Edit: Whoops. There is another possibility - this code is for color combination of the unit :( . So it is possible that there will be no black version in Europe after all :(

still considering this phone, it looks so good but surf a lot so multitasking handy. I don't think i can afford N95 8GB. Any ideas on camera speed.?

Guys please answer some questions!

1. Is the sound recorder limited or we can record until the memory runs out?

2. It has a 2.5 mm audio jack, right? If yes, then does the bundled headset thing have a 3.5 mm audio jack so we can connect our fav. headphones in it?

3. When we're playing the FM radio, can we transfer the sound to the loudspeaker instead of listening in the earphones?

And one more ques.

Can we use the pair of LED flashes as torches (set them to be permanently on) ?

There is no way to use the front camera for taking pics. Why is everyone so concerned with this?

The quality would be well below average, & the main camera takes 10x better pics.

To use it in video calling, it must first be supported by your mobile carrier. Who is you mobile phone carrier??

MobileSlider, you seem well aware of the 6500 Slide's features, can you please answers some of my questions, i think calle909 didn't give the right ones, as someone else's answers on gsmarena.com contradict his, so you please clear my confusion!

2. It has a 2.5 mm audio jack, right? If yes, then does the bundled headset thing have a 3.5 mm audio jack so we can connect our fav. headphones in it?
(Calle909 said we have to buy an adapter ourselves, doesn't it come in the retail box?)

3. When we're playing the FM radio, can we transfer the sound to the loudspeaker instead of listening in the earphones?

4. Can we use the pair of LED flashes as torches (set them to be permanently on) ?

Please answer ASAP, i'm considering a purchase!

noorumh,

maybe I can help you ;):

1. recording is limited to 1 hour
2. No, you have to buy 2,5 to 3,5 adapter
3. Yes (select more ->settings->loudspeaker)
4. No, even flash set to ON it will only trigger while taking photos, not permanently

Mobick,
although there are some pictures on the internet for quite a while, there is no official confirmation from Nokia (both Europe and Asia) about "black edition", but we can expect to see this soon (2-3 months)

Of course, stereo wired headphones HS-47.

Recording time is limited to 1 hour, you can have several recordings but TOTAL time for all recordings is 1 hour and can not exceed it.
