hi there,

Ever since the cellphone gained a camera, this question has been hounding all phone owners everywhere. "Do you need to have an ALL-IN-ONE phone?
Or would you be happy having separate devices for separate functions? (ie: pda, portable mp3 player, digicam, etc...)

Some would say that; "if you do have all your eggs in one basket and you accidentally drop that basket"...well, you know what happens.

On the other hand, there are some that would say; "instead of carrying a knife, a can opener, nailfile, scissors and a bottlecap opener - just get a swiss army knife and be done with it".

So...which one are you?

Do you want all your eggs in one basket? Or do you want your eggs in separate baskets?

cheers!

All in one, I hate carrying different things around.

I don't like to carry things in my pockets...especially when I am on a Vacation, so an all-in-one, or phone/DigiCam is ideal and convenient, although
I am more concerned with a quality camera as opposed to an MP3 player, since I typically only listen to music in my car or at home.

I am not a fan of headphones for some reason.

Hi all,

Well for over 22 years i have sought my ultimate convergence device and always failed and needed two devices to achieve what i wanted.

Recently i have had a major rethink about my device addiction and my quest for the ultimate convergence device and have reached a new conclusion. I have gone back to my E61 for phone/PDA needs and or the first time bought an iPod as my stand alone Multimedia entertainment device and so far am really happy with the results. As although i still have two devices now i really do have the best of both worlds IMO.

I also rank having a good camera in my cellie over a good mp3 player, but having them both is terrific for everyday life. But if I'm going on a trip, I bring my iPod and 5MP digicam--always more capable than what's in a cellie.

Until the day phones cut the mustard in everything they pretend to be able to, i put up with the nuisance of carrying separate better alternatives.
For the record i also don?t like swiss army knives. :p

I want all in one phone, but I guess I have to wait few years before I can sell my digicam and use my phone as my main cam.

all in one would be ideal of course,

bu i'm happy with Phone + Cam...

i don't mind carrying an ipod separately.

I'd rather have my eggs separated. A cellphone with great MP3 playback abilities through headphones (probably Samsung G600 or G800 from what I gathered reading a couple of threads here) will do it.
For portable pictures and video, I'd much rather have one of the FinePix Fxx(fd) digital cameras. As for PDA, I'm not sure: how much can you do on a 2<-->3inch 240x320 screen? Also, are cellphone CPUs powerful enough to handle PDA functionalities?

Seperate everything for me, all in ones are way too compromising in performance terms IMO.

phone-organiser-camera-mp3 vs
8210,palm pilot,ixus 800,ipod shuffle.

i'd rather a jack of all trades than 4 masters.

No. I prefer carrying my digicam and take decent pics. But I use my Walkman phone as my MP3 player :)

The combo that suits me: Phone + Decent MP with autofocus cam + good MP3 ala S40 v5 (points to Nokia 5610 which is a long time away :insane: )

this is my perfect combo, which the 5610 does fulfill perfectly

but in the meantime, my phone makes for a good music player, but I need to take my 2MPix Canon cam (its a good couple of years old) for shots, however the 5300 does run out of battery power very quickly

I like a phone with a good cam.

Mp3 players are good enough and small enough to make it a separate device.

Ah, an thread older than me.
Anyway I like music + camera + video + internet + pda + rugged + style + phone, all in one device. Too much to ask, is it?

I want an all-in-one device. I use my mobile more often as a mp3 player rather than a phone, and checking up things in the calender.

I recently bought a DS though, so I guess the gaming side is less important now, not that this N-Gage is particulary good anyway.

I have a fairly good digital camera, but I still want the camera in the mobile device to be decent and be able to take good pictures indoors and in the dark (so xenon flash is preferable by a longshot), because it's always with me.

I would prefer an all in one device, such as Satio, but even a lesser device with (8 mpxl + xenon, WVGA video capture, 3.2" nHD wide screen with good codec support (divx ect.) at D1 playback, plus speedy web browser and HSPA and finally 3.5mm jack) and I would be good.

I have a 120gb ipod, but someday, im sure there will be higher capacity phone. By then, im sure there will be an all-in-one phone for me.
Even now, the Omnia HD is more than enough as an all-in-one for me (minus the storage).

just camera, light music and video, is enough. But really, I can probably do away without the video and music, camera though is sufficient. I really didnt have problems with the hardware problems on my phone with music and video, b/c the main part, the camera worked. Always had an mp3 player in my bag that i use in my car so i would just use that instead

Definitely all-in-one. I do not own an iPod or any other MP3 player. I don't own a digital camera/camcorder. I don't own any PDAs. I want one thing that can do everything. It saves space and money.
