hey all..
Just asking for neutral opinions about the korean car ( Hyundai Elantra )...
Need u to say if i can compare its built quality to japanes cars...
What about the air conditioner?
I think that Korean car makers are doing well these years what do u say ?

All I can say is that Hyundai is definately doing better than ever before. They have good designs and an attractive price, although I'm still skeptical about their reliability
i Dont Like huyndai .. dunno but i dont like it .. i love japanese cars more than it ..

Yea for some reason I don't like them either...Don't like any Korean car companies at all... maybe they aren't around long enough for the world to like
They´re ok cars. Crappy resale value though.. (at least in Sweden)
I wouldn´t say no to the coupé/Tiburon model :)
In value and reliability terms they are up there with the best, quality of internal plastics and ride/handling lag behind both Jap and Euro built cars IMO.
5 year warranty used to be a strong selling point before everyone else offered 3 and Kia offered 7. :D

thanx all for reacting...
Me too one of those ppl hating these three brands ( Kia , Daewoo & Hyundai )
but here in Egypt I find its resale price very good, cheap spares, got all price ranges...
but again sounds like we can't resist japanese cars ( Mitsubishi, Nissan , Toyota , ..) & European ofcourse...;)
btw what do u say about Proton, Malaysian cars ?
Satria neo looks OK actually, and in the UK their doing the GEN-2 with free leather interior (can't beat a full hide interior IMO) :D my motor has 3/4 leather interior. Kia ceed is up to jap and Euro standards i believe.
Quality-wise, I dare to say that Hyundai is in the same ratio as Japanese cars- or even better. But everything what is becoming popular is, unfortunately, always getting worse :-\

like? :-/
I actually seeing the popularity of hyundai growing very well here (& Proton started, maybe.. ) but hyundai was very bad at first ... very bad quality imo ..
looking weak & all stuff like that... now, cheap spares, service centers, good all range prices...
what u say?...
There's a lot to be said for the practical aspects of car ownership IMO, cheap spares, low priced servicing, and low prices are not glamourous but they all contribute to making ownership a stress free and economicaly viable proposition.
The far eastern manufacturers have come a long way in recent years thats for sure :D
like?
Toyota. Don`t show me that pathetic  face, even the almighty Toyota is now having problems. The newest problem- Auris. Quality of materials is simply dissapointing. And why the hell is everybody saying that Hyundai have/had bad quality? That things are talking only people which never owned or at least tried an Korean car. If it needs a repair, spairs are indeed cheap. If you buy an Mercedes year 1999-2004, you`ll have a lot of repairs for astronomical prices. Or let`s took a more available car- VW Golf- the ex-"public" car thanks to its repair prices. With Hyundai you don`t have that problem.

thank u all for taking care...
about Toyota..the model u mentioned is not available here ...
U know, the market here demads a few specifications ( 1600 - 2000 CC in sedan cars ) so maybe Auris is somewhat a problem that's not here :)...
thanx again ..but you know as MR.com is specialiced forum for mobiles, do any one knows an auto-forum? just for cars ? :D
thanx again...

Toyota has TONS of problems. They aren't making cars like they used to anymore :( Thats why we are looking at the new Honda Accord instead of the Camry

Toyota has TONS of problems.
maybe in your country :spy:
Hyundai's aren't bad, i have a Santa Fe (2001 model) and it has been a pretty good car, my most favourite car we have owned is the Mitsubishi Magna (Diamante for you people) which has never given us any problems, when i get old enough im gonna lower it, put big rims, black or silver paint, CD player + Subwoofers, the cars gonna be modded Japnese VIP style :D

Well I shouldn't say tons of problems, but there are quite a few popular toyotas (Camry and some others)that experience transmission failures and other things...There have been quite a few recalls recently
BTW this applies to North America, don't know other places

The resale values of Hyundais aren't as high as other Japanese cars in the same class, but they were also cheaper to begin with

i have owned 2 Hyundai's....both of em Accents....one a petrol sedan and the other a deisel hatchback (VIVA). they have been extremly well priced and are easy to maintain. In India their service network is fantastic and the cars are the best in quality, built and performance in their price bracket. (better than cars from ford and suzuki). Elantra is probably the most spacious car in its segment. also here in India Hyundai's enjoy a high resale value ...comparable to japanese cars.
IMO elantra and sonata are two brilliant cars from Hyundai at the moment.

I don't know why, Hyundai hasn't convinced me to take a look at their brand yet...
Maybe the new i30 will convince you to look at them, radeonboy.

I'd say a hyundai elantra is a pretty good choice for its category. But you might want to wait and see how the new Mitsubishi Lancer will be priced. The new one is hot as opposed to the current heap of sh*t.

the current one is shi* ?
u gotta be kidding :D !!...
plus : the new one is priced at 140,000 - 150,000 EGP, expensive for me.. ...just saw it last week at a car dealer's

Well, in the UK at least Hyundai were rather rare up until about 8 or 9 years ago. My friend has an 1998 Hyundai Accent and when I was talking to her about her car the other day she told me that she regrets buying a Hyundai, she said that it was a very reliable car but in a couple of years when she wants to sell it her Accent wont be worth even half what she paid for it.
Whilst making cars that are mechanically very dependable but the quality of the materials of the interior are far behind those of European cars in its segment.
But if you can live with the worse interior quality and lower standard of performance and handling then Hyundai's are good cars that make financial sense.

Well, that thing isn't coming to America, is it? So I guess I won't be able to see it...

You sure that wasn't an early import. The current 1300cc Lancer is about the same as the elantra?? And yes I was devestated when the 2000 model got an ugly facelift that's been with us for 7 years.
mustafabay i had the 1999 one... one of the best lancers design ever.
the 2008 is again gorgerous :)
the DE version is going for 13990 US $
I know a guy who has that new Hyundai Elantra like in the pic, except the color is different. I haven't sit in his car yet but at a glance I saw the dashboard and looked like it has quality to me, quality like Jap car I say. I drove a Hyndai Elantra before, an old model one and I tell you it had that cheap feeling inside. I had it for like a week.

I think ur Accent is this :
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/6436/scre8r016op1.jpg
both are very good cars for their price range...
Cheers!
SuccessCre8or the second pic in there which u've shown as accent is the Verna here in india.. the first one is the accent. the head lamps look a bit different or perhaps the pics making it look like that (the angle).
and yes there is also the "Accent" Viva here..
what are the prices of the cars, by other manufacturers, of the same category (that of elantra) ? like honda (civic?), skoda (octavia) etc...??
SuccessCre8or
06-01-2008, 22:23
a2k24,..I got my Verna (1st pic ^^ ) @ 66,000 LE ( $12,000)
Accent (2nd pic) is starting from $13,800
Octavia A4 = $22,500
octavia SP A5 = $30,000
Elantra = $18,200
Chevy Optra = $15,272
Chevy Aveo = $12,300
CiViC = $25,500
City = $16,000
VW Passat = $40,000
u know,,.. I find these price high..compaed to other markets...but what to do ? Egypt is still out of applying all GATT terms :s
hmmm the elantra is cheaper here... around 14,000$.
SuccessCre8or those prices fall short of what people pay here in india.... :p
what about Toyota Corolla ?
I would recommend Japanese cars over Korean ones.
