Its a generation thing...i would have included the pioneers of grunge rock Nirvana and Pearl Jam due to their commercial and critical success and also for popularizing a new genre of rock music back then. I also would include Oasis and Metallica and probably the most successful punk rock band of all time in terms of sales--Greenday.

Its a generation thing really..those in the list mentioned are mostly from the 60s and 70s, so they are "legends" but innovations and commercial success should also be included in the criteria of choosing the best bands of all time...

IMO of course

I DISAGREE!!!
Queen is 6th? A band which had sold over 300 million albums, made 2 most popular (We Are The Champions) songs in history ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_%28band%29#Historical_success ) and which had one of the most respected and talented singer in popular music?
Is that an American website? They usually hate Queen without a particular reason. If that`s a British site- shame on you!
Of course, Beatles are no.1- a band which never had a rock song (just has some pop songs with some guitar parts) :spy:

Led zeppelin should be the first
and Quuen has awesome songs, but it can't be considered number one!it isn't a pure rock troop
LZ has Stairway to Heaven, the best song!!!
the_Terminator, they are talking about the best rock bands and their songs, not commercial issues!
it would be pointless to see a top based on that!
i should see TH there? and Avril ?
YUCK

Hey! motoman or what ever you call your self, before blasting away with these and that, read carefully my post !

What i wrote was commercial success should be one of the criteria to be the best rock and roll band and not the whole reason of putting bands in that all-time list. "innovations done" to the rock and roll evolution, as i mentioned in my post should also be one of the criteria..what they have contributed to the rock music metamorphosis thru the years since its birth

Read carefully my post, ok motoman? My point is : most of the 60s and 70s bands were over-rated just because they produced 2 or 3 hit songs but their reach were never really that far (globally)..only to the hard core fans..

What TH and Avril are you talking about? we're talking here of real rock musicians and not posers...man ..damn!

Pearl Jam ...best song : "Jeremy" and " Even Flow"
best album : "Ten"

Nirvana..."Smells like teen spirit" album : Nevermind
Metallica..." Enter Sandman" and " Master of Puppets "
Album: " the Black album" and " Master of Puppets "
Greenday.. " Basketcase" and "American Idiot"
Oasis .. "Wonderwall" Champagne Supernova"

For me Rock isnt what it was in the 70s. There are a few decent bands who make nice albums on a consistent basis but the Led Zepperlins, Beatles, Van Halens and the rest are all gone.....

id have to say though overall perhaps Guns N Roses

I got hooked on RUSH in 1975, 30 years later they are still going strong, and still teaching young pups how to play :)
Drummer Neal Peart is an inventory in the rock drummers hall of fame

snake eater Must be the former, at least he seems to be a really nice guy, shy but nice. Alex Lifeson is the outgoing clown in the band and Geddy lands somewhere in the middle methinks :)

Black Sabbath and Deep Purple should be higher than ACDC and Aerosmith.

Anybody whos owns Deep Purple - Made in Japan knows that DP were the greatest live Rock band, still unsurpassed IMO

Top 5 should be

1. Led Zeppelin - ''How the West was won'' speaks for itself here.
2. Pink Floyd - I am only a fan of some of their work, but that stuff is simply outstanding.
3. Deep Purple - Made in Japan is my most played album, makes me speed :)
4. The Who - Behind Blue eyes anyone?
5. Queen - Freddie was probably the greatest frontman of any band.

Id put the beatles 6th or 7th, simply for their innovation, IMO a lot of their work has not aged well.

Id agree with that but id also have to have Guns N Roses in there somewhere.
