Hmm - I prefer the 7500's design. The 7900 is sporting the same hardware as the 6500 Classic, I guess?
neat. They both look really the same. I like the &500's design more too.
kind of 6300/6500 brotherly bond.
but for fashion freaks women.
SE Fans now you got it, a nokia with light effects
Looking forward to the OLED screen though - this is the first handset with an OLED main screen, am I right?
wtf- a new announcement? Today? Maybe we`ll today see some very neat handsets :D
m.h, I don't think we'll see anything else today...
A larger Prism collection would have been great - where is the clamshell or the slider?
Looking forward to the OLED screen though - this is the first handset with an OLED main screen, am I right?
I think 6500 classic also has a OLED display.
Looking forward to the OLED screen though - this is the first handset with an OLED main screen, am I right?
No,BenQ-Siemens S88 has it.
Leonard, you're right - forgot about that one!
I think 6500 classic also has a OLED display.
Hmm - they actually don't say which type the 6500 Classic's display is...so it's possible that it also has an OLED screen :spy:

It really is just the 6500 classic in a new shell, good for impressing in the evenings I suppose but not that much to get enthused about!:-/
xumdeo's blog mentioned there would be major nokia announcements starting from around now
Maybe they're building up some momentum for the 29th?
but not that much to get enthused about!
I agree - quite nice (the interchangeable keypad lightning color is a cool detail for example), but nothing overly fantastic. I would have loved to see a smartphone with a similar design paradigm (like the 7610 was for the Art Deco lineup) or at least a higher spec'ed devices like the 7390...

The 7500 is more interesting as at least it has expandable memory & VGA video recording at 15fps. Plus to my eyes a nicer design.
VGA video recording at 15fps
I think you are mistaken on that - Forum Nokia only mentions the usual 2G-S40 176x144.
What I like about the 7900 is the use of metal - I really hope this is becoming a trend...

From the 7500 thread on here "Capture life's great moments in still photos and DVD- quality video on a 2 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom"
m.h, I don't think we'll see anything else today...
A larger Prism collection would have been great - where is the clamshell or the slider?
Maybe there will be a clam, slider or swivel later with higher specs (like it was with l'amour collection).
Super Chimp, weird - yet another Nokia spec sheet inconsistency then? Anyway, the 7500 is less than half the price of the 7900 (210€ against 450€), which makes it quite interesting as a secondary phone for nights out imho...
Wilbur, hopefully - as far as I remember, the 7610 was also announced later than the 7260/7270/7280 trio...
What I like about the 7900 is the use of metal - I really hope this is becoming a trend...
But isnt it just the back cover that uses metal? Or did i misunderstand the press release?
The back cover is one of the main features of the device, but still i can not find a single picture of it. :/
edit: Never mind, was pictures of it in the flash presentation.
But isnt it just the back cover that uses metal?
I think so, yes - but better than nothing, imho ;)
The metal backcover of the 6300 does wonders to the initial impression to me - so, hopefully this gives you a similar feeling of sturdiness...
I think so, yes - but better than nothing, imho ;)
Yes, far more better than nothing - and even better just to see that Nokia has now taken use of materials into account, even on cheaper phones than the 8-series. Now it must just be a matter of time till we see a new S60 with exclusive material usage or experimental design.
Hmm, this 7900 must be pretty pretty small, cos in the pictures it looks much chubbyer than the 11mm it got in depth.

This is the phone which symbian-guru said that will be announced this week  ?
weird design but its very stunning! wow a full oled screen! ahh this is one of the rumored i heard to have a fashion phone with a living organic screen..
very nice! i know my new collection now! N81/7900 ;)
The Prism's look vile. Urgghh.
Wilbur, hopefully - as far as I remember, the 7610 was also announced later than the 7260/7270/7280 trio...
In fact 7610 was introduced at 2004 CeBIT and 7260,7270 and 7280 were officially presented on 9 September.

It's an odd bit of logic giving a mid-range fashion phone with a fixed focus 2MP camera VGA video recording at 15fps, it doesn't really fit the feature profile for such a handset.

I was trying to find something to say about this phone today, but I just can't find the words to describe it... I'll sleep over it and attempt tomorrow... :)
Someone post pics of the back!
Franz, http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_7900_prism-pictures-2051.php
Kinda like expected ;)
1- This is the FIRST Nokia with OLED display, and let's hope this is not the last.
2- OLED displays are usually crisp and have great quality.
3- Despite the fact that OLED displays have less battery consuption than TFT (as OLEDs do not need backlighting), there is no numerical impact on the battery life in the case of the 7900prism! (only 240h of stand-by)
4- the dimentions: 112 x 45 x 11.3 mm, are just great (but a little tall), combine this with the fact that it's made of well-cut anodized aluminum, I reckon this phone will feel GREAT in hands.
5- as others mentioned above, and by comparing sizes, it looks like nokia is smartly saving money on hardware production lines, 6500c innards reused in 7900, the same goes with 7500 and 6300.
6- nokia smartly made use of light effects in a fashion phone, right where it should be, not in a music phone (with all respect to SE decision in w580).
7- a living wallpaper: "that animates new, dazzling patterns
unique to each phone", now this doesn't impress me at all! but I'm quite sure many emptyheads will like it.
8- after the high success of 5300/5200, the idea of the smaller-and-bigger brothers is becoming a trend there at nokia.
prism collection reminds me of the whacky designs nokia used to make....like 7610...
But there`s one "small" flaw regarding OLED screens: they can`t last longer than 5000 hours. I hope that Nokia solved that problem.
BTW, nice phone IMO, but a little tall (it seems that we`re going back in past regarding dimensions)
this is the first handset with an OLED main screen, am I right?
Samsung G800
a2k24, neither officially announced nor available - so I wouldn't count that...after all, this rumor could just be wrong too?
this is the first handset with an OLED main screen, am I right?
BenqSiemens s88?
m.h, see post #11 :p
chlettn, I think you'd better edit that post before a third... I mean a forth one jumps in and criticize it :D
I know- I noticed it. But I`m wondering about chlettn- is he becoming senile? :p
m.h, hmm, what? Where am I? Who are you? Leave me alone! Where was I...oh, right...gotta feed the cat...Kitty? Kiiiiiiittyyyyy!

What the hell am I doing here? What was it I wanted to todo
oh yeah, feed the cat. Kitty! Kiiiiiittyyyyy!

I have 7500 Prism on my hand now.
Why was it posted in the 7500 thread that it DVD standard video recording then?
Yes, they better have sorted out that 5000 hour maximum for OLED screens or their going to have a lot of returned 7900 in the first year.

after the high success of 5300/5200, the idea of the smaller-and-bigger brothers is becoming a trend there at nokia.
i like this idea, i would buy an XpressMusic version of 6500 Classic, 1GB of internal storage is more then enough for me
In my country the 5200 flopped big time :( (it was only a little bit cheaper then 5300)
Looking forward to the OLED screen though - this is the first handset with an OLED main screen, am I right?
There are plenty of cheap Chinese phones with OLED main screen. But this is the first with a 16M color OLED and a QVGA OLED I guess :p
Anyway like some people before, I also like 7500's design more than 7900, but then 7900 has color lighting effects...
It really is just the 6500 classic in a new shell, good for impressing in the evenings I suppose but not that much to get enthused about!:-/
it has those color lighting effects, and an OLED screen, so I'd say they are different enough, at least not the 5070/6070 stuff. well, they are at least as different from each other as Moto L9 and Z3 :p
Super chimp, samsung upgrades OLED diode's (AMO-OLED) life upto 20000 hour. And samsung is the MAIN Lcd supplies to nokia. I hope the life time won't be bad. And it will lasts 3-4 Years. Think about G800. Why samsung will take risk by producing such kind of display in their high end phone?

I didn't know Samsung supplied Nokias displays I thought it was mostly LG?
Good to hear they have increased their life, still doesn't match the 50000 hours of standard screens.
I think it is no surprise that Nokia chose a fashion model to try out OLED main screens...after all, fashions tends to get outdated rather fast, which lessens the complaints of a possible low display lifetime I guess ;)
anyone know how much this phone gonna cost? and when is the release?
the more i look at it the more i like it!
Super chimp, no. Samsung is the main produces so far as i know. And this year nokia brought 20000 Lcd from them. (it was from ringnokia.com) then my point was why nokia will brought lower OLED where higher one is available.

and those people who buy fashion phones won't care about their mobile phone's screen dying after 2 years I guess. After all, this is no longer the age of "one mobile phone for 5+ years" :p
No announcements till August 29th.
is it true for series 40 60 or for n series also
and those people who buy fashion phones won't care about their mobile phone's screen dying after 2 years I guess.
I guess most fashion victims wouldn't even have it for two years...
And, after all, what is a fashion? From the artistic point of view, it is usually a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.
:D
Not that I think the 7900 is ugly, though...
i buy new phone after aprox. 6 months :) so, i don't give a **** how many hours OLED screen can work :D

I think the top of the phone looks awesome, but there are almost no pics of it.
From the pictures I've understood that the metal sweeps around so also the sides of the phone are of aluminium. That's great, adds a lot of durability and resistance from scratches and impacts.
anyone know the release date of this baby? i been googling it... >.<

I bought this phone yesterday. However, the so-called organic wallpaper doesn't change according to time of the day, battery or signal strength. I thought it would as easy as selecting the theme and let it do its job. Any users can help? Could it be a setting problem or software problem?

also please confirm how is the battery life, sound and build quality?
Battery life, sound and build quality are superb. The display seems dimmer even when set to 100% brightness. Hopefully someone can address the organic wallpaper issue. There is also no screensaver for this phone :(
