i recognize smartphones by nokia from the menu (physical) key
how to know if the SE i am looking at is a smart phone or not

Well all SE smartphones has touchscreen, so if u touch the screen and it responds, then it's a smartphone ;)

not true, some asians companies have touch sensitive dumbphones... and they are dumphones not matter what.

err.. he was asking about discerning Sony Ericsson smart phones; and not smart phones in general from any company ...
so... touch sensitive screens still hold as a discernible character for SE smart phones!

They have big screens, not the usual SE keypad and ALWAYS the JogDial key in left side of phone...

So far, SE smartphones use touchscreens starting at 2.6". That's how easy it is to discern an SE smartphone from an SE dumbphone. :D
