It is available for some 6300 users in The Netherlands, depending on product code. I didn't do the upgrade yet because I want to know what the exact changes are.

The only thing I know is that setting the silent profile using the #-key no longer works after upgrading. It's reported by everyone doing the upgrade.

I've bought Nokia 6300 yesterday (in Poland) and it has firmware version V 05.00 and it's dated on 24-04-07. What's weird is the fact that on nokia site there is only available firmawe V 04.71 for upgrade.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to download v5.00 firmware for my 6300? I've tried nokia's updater but it tells me I have the latest firmware (I have 4.70). And the over the air updated wont connect. I don't mind the issue with the # key as I never use it.

I'm hoping a firmware upgrade will fix the issue I'm having with the phone not remembering any words I type in when I'm using predictive text, so I'm having to retype them every time, it just refuses to remember them. I want to try a firmware upgrade before having to take it in and get it repaired.

Phone doesn't crash anymore when you select the Recently used list while sending an sms. That's all I've noticed.

I found a bug in the v5.60 update for the 6233. If you lock the phone and then unlock it, it will forget your shortcuts when active standby is on (such as pressing up & down to access active standby). Annoying!

(I've tried it only when the keypad is locked with a security code).

What is it with the 6233?? For every good firmware update there's two awful bug-ridden ones! This phone has been plagued by shoddy firmware, it's a disgrace :mad:

There's no excuse for these bugs. Even an hours worth of basic testing they will be found! How can Nokia's software engineers keep cocking the 6233 software up??

I've heard that firmware 5.60 for 6233 doesn't really bring something important and I've heard that it removes the e-mail option in messaging. And that some who are updating the phone experienced errors during the update process but after canceling, the firmware is now 5.60 despite the unsuccessful attempt in the updating process. Not a good update if you ask me. Check out the forums in Nokia's official site for more details.

Another bug in v5.60: The tick mark is missing when selecting files using Grid view mode.

Hmmm.. based from what I THINK (again, this is what i think) these are the following changes- so far.

1. The Application List is now populated (I don’t recall it having anything when I click it. Or maybe i just didn’t use it. hehehe) Go To > Options > Select Options

2. The email application now has a spam filter (or was it there before and same as above, i just didn’t use it?)

3. Insert a number on the text/sms editor.

Now i like this fix.

You see, previously, when you try to insert a contact on the SMS/text editor (not the in the “To:” box ok?) the only numbers or contacts that you’ll be able to see are those which is in the sim. Now you can see even those contacts in the Phone! Create a new message > on the message field click OPTIONS > Insert Number > Search.

4. Its Faster.

I think it happens most of the time that when you update your firmware, the phone seems to be faster..

What problems are still there?1. When creating a message and you want to get the contact from your Log, the phone restarts. Message > add > Open Log - restart!

But hey, look at the bright side, you now have a shortcut to restart your phone! hahahhaha. Use negative things positively or find a positive effect from a problem!

2. Creating SMS still doesn’t use “smart text editor”..

What i mean by that is..

Create a 2 line text message. Go to the end of the second line of your message. In other nokia phones, when you press the right navigation key (i presume you know where the right navigation key is), the cursor should go to the first letter in the first line. And vice versa: when you are in the first letter (on the first line) of your message/sms, and you press the left navigation key, it should go at the last character/last line of your messgae.

I hope you get what I mean.

3. It still doesn’t say why the message failed to send.

Unlike old phones (or maybe there are new phones) which tells you why you failed to send your emssage, either no network coverage, used up your call and text credits, network problem… I wish they’d put that back.

4. When you change themes, the personalization settings for your tones also change.

Well, this has been answered before. It because the themes are treated as separate applications.

5. Still doesn’t have a forward and rewind feature for videos.

I guess nokia can’t put this on this phone.

The only solution, either get a third party application or get a new phone!

Some 6233 users say that teh phone has a built in dictionary and it has a dictionary menu.

From the day that i bought this phone, i didn’t see any dictionary or menu for that. But i see the t9 and its always turned off.

hahahah.. Just figured this out now.

For everyone to see it. lock the phone’s keypad. Then press the dedicated camera button on the right side of the phone. Then look at the screen. it will say ” “Press ‘Unlock” then ‘OK’”, but there is no “OK’”. It should say press “*”.

So far that’s it.

So i suggest that if you’re not experiencing any problem with the version that is currently installed on your phone, then DONT UPDATE. Coz there’s no major change/s - SO FAR.

I currently bought the Nokia 5310 and realized that it always crashes when I listen to music, even there is no incoming phone call involved.

I have a nokia 5300 and I guess I shouldnt say it was the updater itself,my USB port malfunctioned 5-6 times during the update process but has never done so previously.Anyway when I turn the phone on I get a white screen which flashes a few times then the phone shuts off.Can anyone tell me how to fix this w/o sending it in because its not detected by pc suite or NSS anymore?plz help not that a 5300 is a big loss but still its pissin me off.
