So it is just 128MB internal memory, that's very disappointing.

That's what annoys me about the 8 series Nokia just expect to sell it on the looks no matter how poor the features. Even by fashion phone standards their features tend to be below average.

They expect it, and they also do! Not too many, but that's the whole point. 8xxx should attract a certain type of customer, not a can-do-all AND beatifully designed device that everyone wants.

If the memory is not expandable i won't buy it . Simple as that.

When will they produce a device that has an exclusive design and that carries loads of features? ? ? ? ?

It seems never as Nokia seem to believe these two things are mutually exclusive.

whts difference really in 8600 and 8800 SE

both 2 MP cam should be ok.... but 8600 should have like 3 megapix and all

sidneylopsides
29-05-2007, 12:40
Dtox2006, QVGA screen and smoked glass front.
It looks to me like the 8600 is based on the 6300, like the 8800 was based on the 6230i

Hahaha! With all due respect, anyone paying that amount of money for a phone is a complete mug.

sidneylopsides

slacker711, that may be because of the description of an "Organic menu interface" it has.

That definitely may be the source of the rumor...though I am expecting Nokia to announce a handset with an OLED display sometime this year. I figure a premium handset like the 8600 is the logical choice. I have an iRiver Clix2 MP3 player with a 2.2" QVGA OLED screen and it is absolutely beautiful :rotate: . I'm looking forward to seeing these screens start to show up in handsets.

Got hold of one, will post the pics when home. Didn't get muchof a play, but it's not OLED. Nice, just an 8800 with a bigger screen really.

Today morning i read through ringnokia.com that, a vedio reviewer confirmed that 8600 has no memory card slot and has a big 1GB INTERNAL MEMORY.

Can you confirm the 1GB internal memory?

Does the radio support stereo?

How good is the camera & MP3 player? Are they both better than the ones in the 8800SE?

Is it the latest version of the S40 OS?

http://www.mobilegazette.com/nokia-8600-07x05x25.htm

One major limitation is the lack of any memory expansion - the Nokia 8600 just has the 128 MB of internal memory and no more can be added. The 8800 suffered from a similar problem. This means that the available memory can fill up pretty quickly with photos and music tracks which limits the enjoyment to be had from the handset a little. The battery life isn't great either, with just 3.5 hours talktime and 10 days standby time.

And according to the documentation I have on the handset:

Super Chimp

128MB is far too small with no memory card slot. A much cheaper handset with no memory card slot the 3G LG Shine still manages to have 4 times that amount of memory.

Dtox2006

Had another quick play, I forgot to check the memory though! It seems to be a 6300 inside, no card slot.

Fingerprint magnet... heavy, slide feels more solid than 8800 and Sirocco. Don't like the slide much cos the natural way to hold it means you hold both halves making it hard to open. The back is a slightly odd shape which seems to be to help out with that.

It is very heavy, but it has a lot of glass on it. The themes are very stylish, not the usual S40 icons.

Looks like you have to use it with gloves, otherwise you'll only see a lot fingerprints.

Thanks for those pictures. Would you say it's a better phone than the 8800 overall?

Hope the memory question is resolved soon?

I have been looking for a fashion phone for an age & this is ticking a lot of the right boxes but only if it has 1Gb & not 128MB internal memory.

Sorry to dissappoint but it's 128MB. The video res is 176x144 maximum, it has stereo speaker grills but there's nothing behind them so I'm not sure what's there, you can see straight through the phone.
Holding a 6300 next to it, the eairpiece, screen and keys line up exactly, I'm sure it's the same hardware. Got some more pics to post.
It's also NOT mini USB, it's smaller and has a different shape. A standard mini USB doesn't fit.
It comes with a charger with the new connector and an adaptor from the mini Nokia charger to the port on the 8600.

When will Nokia learn to apply some better features to the 8 series?

I was looking forward to it but after this further information, it seems more and more like it's a younger sibling to the Sirocco. Apart from the nicer screen, it doesn't seem to have the looks over the Sirocco..... every other feature seems to be the same... but then when I had the original 8800 I wasn't impressed with the Sirocco so I will need to wait and see how much it will cost and how it feels/looks in person.
