I'm not quite sure how to use this program. I saw other people's settings, followed instructions successfully until the flash part. I click "Flash" and after it shows a log and it says "Power on phone".. it wouldnt power on unless I take the battery out, where this aborts the flash process. Anyone has successfully flashed their phone with this program please assist me on how to flash a u600

SaveFerris

how? please share with us

Your issue was getting the Flash to start ?

Turn the phone off, take out the sim card also take out the battery, plug in the usb cable in the computer to the phone you should see the phones 2 touch screen buttons light up, gently tap the power button making sure you don't turn the phone on, The computer should recognise the phone in the sytem tray( notification area\task bar), you will see no response on the phone, now go check which com port the phone is using in Device manager under ports, go back into the optiflash settings and choose the comm port number, then all you have to do is click Flash.

It worked for me finally, no issues. Remember Flashing your phone can possibly kill your phone so be care full. Have fun.

Ps: if it doesn't work do the procedure again but uninstall the samsung pc studio first for some reason it worked when i didn't have that on my computer, don't ask me why!!!

Hey saveferris :D.

Its me from gsm. iv followed the exact steps. The firmware loading is easy! i just cant do those steps u listed! everyone says do it without the battery but then nothing shows up in device manager!

i uninstalled pc studio. When i click flash it says power phone on. Then i do those steps you listed. Take out battery and sim and plug in usb, no two lights comes on for me and my computer dont see it in ports :(.

EDIT GOT IT TO WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WEEEE First power on ur phone. Then
take the battery out LEAVING THE USB CABLE in u will see two leds on i pressed * and i pressed the power button slightly. Then it will detect and work.

Now im gona make a U600 Firmware Install GUIDE!
You will need:

- Optiflash for U600. Found here.
http://rapidshare.com/files/25063860/U600_Optiflash.rar
- A firmware upgrade. Found here. http://homepages.pathfinder.gr/xux99/samsung/
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=389972
-i used this russian firmware cause it has wake up alert Alarm function.(english language too)
http://rapidshare.com/files/27761470/Greedy_winVISTA__U600XEGD5_s3_cts.rar.htm
- The original samsung USB cable that came with the phone.

Procedure:

Launch Optiflash and click on 'Options > Settings > Generic'
- Select 'Customer T: d830/d840/d910 (USB)
- Set 'Flash Erase Passes' to '1'
- Set 'Operation Passes' to 'Default'
- Uncheck all checkboxes except 'Differences only'

Select the tab 'Flash and Verify'
- Browse to and select your firmware (*.s3)

Select the tab 'Default Contents'
If you have a file *.cts with the firmware *.s3:
- Select radio button ?S-Record with content?
- Browse to and select your *.cts file

If you do not have the file *.cts:
- Click on 'S-Record only'

- Click 'OK'

- Connect the phone to the computer via the USB cable.(in the phone click connect to pc studio)

- Remove your SIM and microSD card and battery from the phone which will turn the phone off .(leaving USB cable in) You will see leds on.

- Whilst holding down the * key on the phone, briefly press the ON button.

Your computer will recognise the device as Samsung USB Mobile.

Return to Optiflash, Click on 'Options > Settings > COM Port'
- Select the COM port your phone uses (If you're not sure, you can find out by: Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Ports (COM and LTP))
- Select 921600.
- In Second COM Port select 'NONE'

- Click 'OK'

Lastly, click 'Flash'

The flash procedure will be finished when the message 'All is Well' appears above the green progression bar.

A full reset should not be necessary once the firmware is upgraded, however, if you want to do it: Type *2767*3855# then wait one full minute before you restart your phone.

To check your existing firmware type *#1234# into your handset

Time to flash: approx 15 mins.

** NOTE: IF YOUR PHONE RESTARTS IN A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE, DON'T PANIC! THE LANGUAGE SELECTION PROCESS IS:

MENU (left touch button) > SETTINGS (bottom right icon) > PHONE SETTINGS (2nd option) > LANGUAGE (1st option)

Firslty i wanna give credit and thank minorthreat for making the e900 tutorial i copied and adjusted to noob friendlyness. http://www.expansys.com/ft.aspx?i=133171&thread=17

Its easy dude

Get your original firmware and flash it as per usual, so basically turn your phone off, it won't turn of because its frozen so just pull the battery out and put it back in, the phone should now be off, plug in the usb cable into the phone, pull the battery, hold the star button and press the power button a couple of times, then just press the flash button on the optiflash and it should execute.

Basically just follow the same procedure when you flashed it the first time.

it works, your phone is not damaged.

I tried that but it not working as the opitflash doesnt recognise the port. It says "com port could not be opened". Now I plugged the phone in when its dead, remove the battery (with sim card still in), the phone 2 selection keys light up, but after a while it goes off. While the selection keys were lit up, I hold star button which should be below the 7 button, and press the power butons around 10 times but the pc still doesnt recognise the phone.

1st rule, never have your sim card in your phone when flashing.
i have changed my firmware manytimes now, it works, i have noticed that my computer doesn't tell me that it recognises the phone also.
before you start the Phone has to be completley OFF. if pulling the battery out and putting back in turns it off then so be it.
Make sure you have the optiflash already open, then plug the phone into the usb, pull out the battery the lights on the touch screen will be on, no other lights, hold the star button down and press the power button a couple of times, or just press the powere button a couple of times by itself. Now go into the optiflash settings, navigate to the original firmware you want and then press Flash. it should go through.

ps , The comm port, have you been putting the phone into the same usb port on your computer?

right now i am trying the U600DXGE1 firmware. I think it was the original one as i tried to see what my firmware was before.

Edit: Thank you so much SaveFerris!!! Flashing my phone right now as i type this. What happens is when you plugged the usb cable into the phone, you pull out the battery and hit the star/power buttons immediately or the phone will come to life. That was why it didnt work before.

Good work !!!!

I don't think it has to be original firmware but i think it has to be the firmware from your region, my phone is originally from the DX region, i have tried different other region's firmwares and my phone frezzes, so i reverted back to a newer version of the DX firmware ( which you are installing now) and it works fine. Weird.

I flashed with the u600dxge1 after previously having the msgc4. Everything works OK, except I'm in the UK and my provider now shows up as "True" instead of Orange. Does anyone know how to revert this, or is there some UK firmware out to correct this? And if not, will it affect my contract? Don't want messages going to another country first to be sent to the UK, or something silly like that...

To flash your phone just follow the above information. now when you plugged the usb cable into the phone, pull out the battery, you have to press the "on" button really quickly or your phone would start up. the just go to device manager and see which port the phone is in. Mine changed from 5 to 6. then just flash.

Wake up alarm is for when you have your phone in silent mode then it will go off. Normal alarm will only go off if not on silent mode.

Hey guys im glad you got it to work :D. Those of you who's phone froze at startup. Could you list what you did different in the steps i mentioned so that other people who will encounter the same problem can be helped :D. Not that my guide sucks, it worked for me and saveferris lol :jump:

Now what i did to my phone to make it stop freezing was to wipe my regions, so instead of just ticking differences only in misc settings in the optiflash, i also ticked erase all unused regions and extended protection.

You have to make sure that under the read ranges on the read tab in the optiflash settings is 0x20000000 - 0x21ffffff because if it isn't i think it will wipe your imei. You can check your imei by typing *#06#, and your firmware by typing *#1234#

I did everything else as per normal to mandonians guide and it all worked fine. I tried a few different firmwares with the same procedure and it all wen't smoothly, now once again becarefull people this procedure is risky,

But it all all worked well for me

Now what i gather is that if my phone is originally from asia i can flash it with another asian firmware without out wiping the regions but if i wan'ted to flash it to a European firmware from being originally asian i would have to wipe it. well thats the only sense i can make out of it. who knows.

Ps. I noticed that the Russian firmware has a Google icon in the menu instead of the bluetooth.

if you want the phone to go off in silent mode with a mp3 and vibrate then you will have to update the firmware. Otherwise if its not a problem for you there is no need in updating.

The firmware I currently have is: U600BOGC9

The phone is a T-Mobile contract phone, so it has 'web n walk' and t-zones' on the main menu. Is there any new firmware update from T-Mobile, as I would like to keep these main menu options.

Also, the 'i' button brings me to the main menu instead of wap, which I'd also like to keep. I've heard the 'i' button takes other U600 users to wap?

I backed up my Samsung U600 firmware file using OptiFlash by simply clicking on 'Read' within the software. I now have a .sre file that it created. I'm looking to flash that .sre file back onto my Samsung U600. I read that I had to remove memory regions by running this in the command prompt:

I now have a new .sre file called newfirmware.sre and have tried using this file to flash my phone, but am getting this error 'ERR_BAD_SREC_ADDR'

However I am in the UK and now a UK firmware has been released on this website: http://homepages.pathfinder.gr/xux99/samsung/ (U600XXGD2) therefore I want to flash with this.

However I keep getting memory ranges overlapped errors in Optiflash- it says my reserved range: 0x20000000-0x21FFFFFF is overlapped by the new firmwares range: 0x20000010 - 0x2000FFFF which is understandable, but surely I want the new firmware to overlap the range?

But then I'm not bold enough to get rid of the reserved memory range on my own, for fear of wiping my IMEI...so any advice?

This has caused me to then use the firmware. Ideally i would like my old new.sre firmware back on.

Also how can i be sure that i haven't erased my IEMI number? Thanks

Is there a way to safely backup my current firmware before changing to another?

This is with a view to rolling back should the new firmware be no good.

Hi all its my first post so go easy on me...

I have a question re flashing phones. I have a new u600 that I wanted to stick an old sim card in (to copy contacts) but i'm currently locked to T-mobile. Will flashing the phone with an alternate firmware unlock the phone in the process? I'm assuming it won't if /i go for another t-mobile one such as U600BOGD4 but thought it might with one of the others such as U600XXGD2. I'm new to flashing phones but ave flashed many a cd/dvd drive, bios, etc so i understand the risks involved. Having said that i'd rather only do this if i'm likely to get the benifit that i want.

Any advice gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Flashing the phone will get you new firmware, what you are wanting to do is debrand the phone. Talk to your current provider, they can do that for you, but will most likely charge you a little for it, otherwise take it to one of the market traders, they will do it, for a little less money, in most cases

Thanks for the fast reply. I assumed the branding would be stored in the firmware. The firmware files are massive but I guess you can do a lot more with these phones than you can with a DVD drive ;)

Thanks again.

Hi all,

recently i got my hands on a new samsung sgh-u600. excellent phone, but disappointed about the inability to leave the phone on silent and have an alarm that would sound in the morning... so i did some research and found on this site how to flash the bios with russian firmware which gives the phone that very capability i needed.

problem is....adding new contacts. texts messages were being typed in russian still, even though i altered language to english, so i pressed the * key to change to abc which is all good... apart from contacts on the phone. when i add a contact or try to search contact, the language is still russian and is unable to alter to abc to get english letters... any help gratefully received!!

Deano - other than the alarm, is there anything else that's different to what you had before?

deano
12-07-2007, 16:42
from what i can tell... there is one menu different. it used to haev a link to javaworld and my games, but now has a google icon instead.

apart from that, i dont think anything else is different... for me, the real pain was a silent alarm when phone was in silent mode.... for work reasons i need my phone in silent, and was worried i would forget to put back into normal mode for when i got home.

flashing the phone is dead easy, just follow the instructions and do exactly as it says and 10 mins later, your phone will restart in russian. then just go to correct section and alter back to english. then pull battery out and leave for a couple fo mins, then putback together and the language function for messages and contacts will be english as well.

miffed that samsung never sent phone out with this wake up alarm function, but working off a russian firmware doesnt bother me.

can you please explain what "flashing" a u600 means..
it means replacing the current software on the phone. people flash their phones for all different reasons. it may be to get rid of the branding (ie replacing the firmware with unbranded firmware), replacing the firmware to get rid of bugs (this is typically the case with sony ericsson phones, and is usually not necessary for samsungs but can sometimes happen), or because you just want different firmware for no good reason at all.

i would suggest that if you have no problem with your phone, don't flash it.

I flashed from U600MSGC4 > U600DXGE1 which everything worked fine.

But then I'm not bold enough to get rid of the reserved memory range on my own, for fear of wiping my IMEI...so any advice?
i tried to flash my phone tonight.

i keep on getting the above when i select 'erase unused regions' too. does anyone know if i don't select any regions if it will erase the IMEI?

currently, my phone freezes on the boot screen and flashes slightly every now and again.

oh dear :-/

anyone know how to rectify this?

EDIT sorted . all i did was, instead of selecting 0x20000000-0x21FFFFFF to be erased, i made it so that there were no excempt memory locations to be erased. i can also confirm that it does not erase the IMEI number.

Hey y'all!! is just flashed my u600 from U600XXGD2 to U600XXGG4.

i got the firware, optiflash en the tutorial from this link
http://homepages.pathfinder.gr/xux99/samsung/

it worked perfect, just follow all the steps, check, chech again and triple check everything and then you will not encounter any problems.

keep in mind that this was the first time i flashed this phone and the firmware was for the same region.
XX Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom
XX->XX

I flashed my phone because my alarm wouldn't sound in silent mode and only vibrate, very anoying.
this has now been fixed.
i came late 3 times due to this error,so i'm glad it has been fixed.
i also think the camera quality while filming has increased slightly, but can't say for sure.

for all those having issues with a frozen screen, and the unit not powering down, as well as connecting it to your pc when optiflash says "power on mobile!" follow these steps:

open device manager, and expand the list of usb ports
take everything out of the phone...(battery and sim)
connect the phone to usb port, no LEDs should be on at this point
with the back cover still off, and the phone connected to the pc, with one hand, hold the * Key (below the 7) and with the other hand, place the battery in the back of the unit.
watch the device manager/system tray as you put the battery in the unit (continue to hold the star key just in case)
you should see that a samsung Mobile USB device was found, installed, and ready to use.

go into optiflash, i loaded the GG3 firmware, selected differences only, erase unused regions and the extended protection boxes. select the com port, and press flash, for me it was comport 3.

wait 15 minutes.

all is well !

BrightSpark
06-11-2007, 02:48
erase unused regions and the extended protection boxes.in addition to 'differences only', these 2 options MUST ALWAYS be selected if you are flashing from one region to another (eg from XE to XX). if they are NOT selected, you will find that the phone will ALWAYS freeze at the boot screen. all that's necessary is to flash it again, but slecting those 2 options.
if you are going from XX to XX or XE to XE or whatever, those 2 options should not be selected.

I bought my phone on ebay and it was stuck at the ultra ok edition screen.
I have tried flashing but have received the the frozen screens all the time. I have tried several flashes to no avail. I don't know what the original version was but its the blue color. What if I erased my imei? How would I know? I have tried checking all boxes, 2 boxes , 3 boxes but still the same result. I get the different front screens like the Beijing or the ultra ok or even just a plane "sgh-u600" screen. What are my choices ? I really need help. I have tried the xx since I wanted the eu config but since
I have flashed so much I don't remember what I did I'd did not.

Hi,

Find attached my tutorial on how to sucessfully dump and flash (update / unblock) Samsung's U600 mobile, using OptiFlash.

The dump routine produces a back-up firmware file that can be installed in any U600, without the common ERR_BAD_SREC_ADDR error messages.

The flash routine is fairly comprehensive.

Although I can assure you that my tutorial really works, remember that flashing is not a risk free operation. I will not bear any responsibility on the results of your operation.

ATTENTION PLEASE

RECENTLY ACQUIRED U600, SPECIALLY IN EUROPE, ARE COMING WITH A NEW FIRMWARE RELEASE INSTALLED. THIS NEW RELEASE CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE EXISTANCE OF A NEW 10TH DIGIT (AN EXTRA LETTER) IN FIRMWARE NUMBER. FOR INSTANCE:

U600BBVGL2: ORANGE (France)

U600BBBHA1: TMN (Portugal)

BEFORE TRYING TO BACK-UP (DUMP) OR UPDATE (OR UNBLOCK) YOUR U600, PRESS *#1234# TO CHECK U600 FIRMWARE VERSION.

IF YOUR FIRMWARE NUMBER HAS 10 DIGITS ON IT, DO NOT TRY TO BACK-UP (DUMP) OR UPDATE IT USING OPTIFLASH. IF YOU TRY TO YOUR U600 WILL BE DAMAGED.

IF YOUR FIRMWARE NUMBER HAS 9 DIGITS ON IT, YOU CAN SAFELY USE OPTIFLASH TO BACK-UP OR UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE.

Hi,

Just purchased a U600 - it has a T-Mobile logo on it, but it's open to all networks, and I'm actually not using it on T-Mobile.

Now - the menu contains 2 items called "T Zones" and "Web 'n' Walk" which are T-Mobile features. I tried configuring my local gprs/edge settings but the phone seems to default to the T-Mobile settings which just can't be deleted (the delete option on these pre-configured settings is greyed out!).

Anyway - the firmware on it is U600BOGD4. I think I should flash it with a non t-mobile fw. Which version would you ppl reccomend and is there anything I should be aware of?

Cheers to anyone who'll help.

hey, check out http://homepages.pathfinder.gr/xux99/samsung/ and select U600 from the drop down menu.

there's tons of firmware, U600XX... is unbranded so it will get rid of the t-mobile crap.
also has the flashing program and instructions.
hope this helps
:D:up:

Thank you for your help - i'm assuming i'll loose my contacts & stuff - but that should not be a problem - i'll backup & reinstate after! fingers crossed - i'll give it a go tomorrow!

Silly question (maybe!) - if the phone was previously lock on t-mobile (which I guess it was), do I run the risk of locking it again by reflashing the fw?

Cheers!

if it was already unlocked which i assume it is since you said it's open to all networks, it should still be unlocked after flashing.
good luck.

It is already available an Optiflash version to dump and flash U600B firmwares.

Let's wait someone else confirm it's really working.

no. it still stays locked to the same network.

we're not not going to go down that road, thank you. it's highly illegal. you can do less time in prison for murder than you can if you change the IMEI number.

for all those having issues with a frozen screen, and the unit not powering down, as well as connecting it to your pc when optiflash says "power on mobile!" follow these steps:

open device manager, and expand the list of usb ports
take everything out of the phone...(battery and sim)
connect the phone to usb port, no LEDs should be on at this point
with the back cover still off, and the phone connected to the pc, with one hand, hold the * Key (below the 7) and with the other hand, place the battery in the back of the unit.
watch the device manager/system tray as you put the battery in the unit (continue to hold the star key just in case)
you should see that a samsung Mobile USB device was found, installed, and ready to use.

go into optiflash, i loaded the GG3 firmware, selected differences only, erase unused regions and the extended protection boxes. select the com port, and press flash, for me it was comport 3.

wait 15 minutes.

all is well !

thanks for the useful hint! it worked again :D

Now go into the optiflash settings, navigate to the original firmware you want and then press Flash. it should go through.

ps , The comm port, have you been putting the phone into the same usb port on your computer?

when i was flashing my phone the power went out, is my phone screwed up now? if not how do i fix it? when i try and power it on all there is a blank screen. i tried to do what was stated above, but as soon as i remove the battery with phone plugged into the usb the led lights go off and optiflash gives me an error msg

All is NOT well!! I flashed my U600 without ticking all the neccessary boxes in Optiflash and now have the startup freeze. I've tried the above but at best I get 'unrecognised USB device' and usually no response at all from the computer. Any ideas anyone?
