View Full Version : Is the k750i's Joystick THAT big a problem?
BAD joystick problems?! AHHH... :(
Okay, so im thinking of getting a k750i cuz I read good reviews about it.
Its fairly cheap, good quality camera for the price. AND I like the way the back looks like ure using a camera instead of a phone.
Unfortunately, the only bad thing I've heard about the k750i is the joystick problem. I wont be heavy gaming, so I wonder if the joystick would prove much of a problem for me.
I really like the way the phone is and stuff, I just wanna know HOW bad the joystick problem really IS.
Please, some feedback will be nice.
I nearly considered the k800i as well... but I've heard about the camera lens being a pain.
Also thought of the k610i... but it lacks radio, worser quality camera than k750i and doesnt look like a camera from the back... which is what I wanted in k750i.
Any help would be nice.
If you keep your phone clean and are gentle with the stick, then the stick would be fine. After a lot of research I settled on the k750i. It's a good all rounder.

Hakko is right, plus if you keep the phone in a cover that will keep it sweet, and it isnt to difficult to clean it, if it does go pearshaped!

its a really good phone and specially for its price its a steal but still ill advise restraint in this matter.i had a w800 which is pretty much the same thing and its joystick went bad twice ,keys went bad once and software got screwed up on in all but 10 months.still as long it was there it kept me happy with good music and a grt camera.
Oh okay, Iread about all these people who complain, slightly less than those people who complain, seem to be okay with it... Some people say theirs has never had a problem, some say they do even if they dont game alot. Most first hand users, unlike those I read about seem to find that the joystick seems to work perfectly fine. Weird... I guess different people are different.
Would u guys still recommend the phone regardless of joystick problems?
The joystick will eventually stop working, so be ready for that

I have had my w800 for 18 months now, and had the case off once to clean it, and just a stiff bristled brush aroung the joystick to keep it that way, so far! Then again I use the joystick for navigation and the occasional game, so I'm not a heavy user.
My partner has had a 750 for about 8 weeks less, and her joystick is as good as new, but then again, she hardly ever uses it... so if its kept out of your pocket, and kept in a case theres no reason why it should break. If you're in the UK just check out the warranty on SE products, Its 2 years!

I used my K750 for over two years and I've never had any problems with the joystick :)
So, just treat it right and It'll last ;)

my 2 years K750 joystick works with no problems but sometimes I faced to no answer after pressing in.
ps im not a heavy gameplayer ! , I used to play games by 2,4,5,6,8 keys. :)
Well guys, I have decided that the Sony Ericsson k750i is the phone for me! I borrowed my friend's old k750i that has lasted 1 and a half years and the joystick seems perfectly fine after a little rotation, and I love the phone already.
The thing is, this place... called Dick Smith in Vic Australia seem to be the only place selling it... $279.
Here is the link to the k750i page at Dick Smith:

The problem now is... they appear to only include a bluetooth headset and theres no mention of a stereo headset, which I read was the main thing needed for the freaking radio to work! So how on earth am I supposed to listen to the radio without the stereo headset?! I dont want a bluetooth, its useless for a teenager, we dont really want things stuck in our ears that makes us look like darth vader or something.
I want the stereo headset, to further increase my anticipation of asking if I could change the bluetooth for a stereo headset and getting the phone...
Is that tomorrow is Anzac day and all the shopping malls are closed. Great, now I gotta be restless for the next 2 days. Great...
I really doubt that they will give a stereo headset and a bluetooth together.
Do u guys think it will be possible to ask for an exchange of the bluetooth for stereo headset? Or do you guys think there'll be a standard stereo headset inside+additional bluetooth device?

a phone with radio but no headset for listening it man how can they do this!!!!!
I can?t possibly imagine that they would sell the phone without the stereo headset?! Are you sure the BT-headset isn?t a bonus freebie and you?ll get the included stereo one regardless.?
Yeah that seems weird. Cause the headset is needed as an antenna. Plz let us know how this ends , man from Oz

AFAIK you get a stereo headset, this plugs into the bottom of the phone and, as everyone said, acts as an antennae, the bluetooth adapter MIGHT, just might act as an antennae as well, best you ask in the shop, if not, then ear buds for radio, and bt headset for your mp3's!
LOL, thanks guys. I think I do get a stereo handset. Im going later to Dick Smith to check the phone out.
Anyway, the last hurdle I have yet to pass...
Phone Branding with Yes Optus.
Depending on where u guys live, I live in Australia and so you guys might not have phone branding with Optus and stuff.
Apparently... my friend told me that his was locked on Vodafone and the menu button at bottom right screen was replaced by 'Vodafone Live'.
He said he just went to the tab where you can edit shortcuts and editted the 'Vodafone Live' function to work as a menu again. If he's able to do it, and I've seen his phone... im wondering if anyone can confirm whether this is possible? Thus getting rid of the branding of yes optus (internet service thing), which took over the 'menu' function on the bottom right of the screen.
I havent got the phone yet, so I cant try. One last hurdle to cross guys... If anyone's k750i is not branded and thus a SE unbranded one, could you check if your 'Menu' function at the bottom right of your screen can be changed to anything else via shortcuts. If anyone can, its settled and the story ends here because its a I-Get-The-Phone-And-We-Live-Happily-Ever kinda ending.
And I wont bug you guys anymore.

Branded phones can be verily easily unbranded. There are shops and market stalls in abundance in the UK that do this for the price of 4 overpriced coffees!
It can also be turned into a fully functioning W800 complete with the Walkman branding on the mp3 player, at this website

It is fraught with dangers, but follow it to the letter, and all will be ok. Needless to say it will invaladate your warranty.
The phone will then take any sim card
