I have a really huge interest in the nokia 7390 , but I wanna know more about this smart phone .

Some points are disappointing in this mobile .. and all this is just a talk which may be true or not .

First of all it has no symbian Operating System! ..:( :-/

Video quality also is said to be bad .:(


but the most unbelievable point is that in the official site of NOKIA they said in the summerized report about this mobile that the internal main screen supports 16 million colors, but in the detailed report they said that both external and internal screens supports only 262,144 colors !! :confused:


I am really confused ..




I want your help to know more trusted details about this phone and when will it reach EGYPT .

Nokia does not know its own mobile phones specs! Video will be very good, I believe it will be 640x480. The internal screen is 16M colours. The operating system is S40. Nokia spec sheets are full of mistakes and to their own disadvantage.
Well I have no idea when its coming to egypt or here in cyprus. I am waiting for it also. Price will be around 450 euro, maybe more... :)

i saw the review in russian site, the camera looks quite good. if it could focus better it would be better than the k800! since its colors, contrast and a bit of sharpening of the 7390 are better, yes nice prints :).

Battery is BP-5M with crappy 780mAh, not so good..

This is my future phone but most probably not in pink. What worries me a little is the internal screen that has no protective glass. Why does Nokia do that? And in MRs review they say its not as bright as it should be in order to save battery... :(

It appears to be a good fone but the only problem is the low brightness of both internal and external screens.This is very disapointing for a 16m colour screen compared to 6131 which are both equal in screen specifications.Nokia should have let the user choose it level of brightness

Unfortunately No.
S40 fone normally do not have adjustments for brightness level.Its either on or off.If nokia could change this it would definitely be a better fone with the 6131's screen.But they did this to save battery as they used a smaller battery in the fone.
I prefer to have a bright screen with less battery compared to a dull one with more battery.

The review doesnt say that. It says that when closed the external screen does not show the missed call's number if you've had a missed call. It just says that you've had for example 3 missed calls and you need to open it and read on the internal screen the numbers, names of your contacts that had been calling you etc etc... So it does show the most an external screen can show. Correct me if I'm wrong but the review states clearly that this phone allows you to do much more while closed than most clamshells, maybe even than all...

well nokia has always been the best fashion phone maker...but you guys must admit one thing...the Art Deco (Distinctly Bold) was the best collection and i seriously doubt that there will be so sucsesfull and bold collections in future like that was.I must admit,Nokia 7280 is still one of my desires and it wold be a perfect second phone...

It is probably worse if you will not select the right ?white balance? effect (i.e. from auto, daylight, tungsten, fluorescent & horizon)? by letting the phone to decide (i.e. auto selection), it will not give a correct white balance effect? (remember it is not a smart phone :p )

But giving the doubt of its camera specification which has a 3M pixels camera? I don?t think that a 1.3 or even 2M pixel camera will do better? (that?s only my opinion anyway) :love:

yeah? you can take either a picture or movie even the phone is folded?

...from external screen, select camera through left or right arrow... then at camera mode, push the middle button to select video, flash, self-timer, image sequence, effects, settings & (of course) exit... :rotate:

?when you received a text message, the external screen will show that you have received a message? sorry but it has no number or name ? just a simple notification that you have received a message? same with missed call, btw? :cool:

It is actually (compare to other phone who has external display too)? although its starts from main menu i.e. lock, radio, music & camera (using the right button), the sub-menus will give you more functional selection like in camera, which you can select the video mode, the effects, night mode, image sequence, flash?

About the review, well, we all know that is part of marketing strategy anyway? buying the phone and using it personally will give you more insight? or the other way around? :cool:

A couple of questions this phone has fantastic features but i don't know about the following

1. Can the outside buttons be used as music playback buttons, can you pick which playlist to use without opening the phone?

2. How loud is the loudspeaker in compsarison with other phones, is it as loud as a Nokia 5300?

3. How good is the camera? i know it is 3Mpix but they aren't all incredible

4. Does the phone have flash and can it be used as a flash light?

A couple of answers for the above questions? (based on my personal usage) :rotate:

1. YES & NO? well, it goes like this: ?YES? you can search (or pick) the song you wanted to play (while the phone is still in fold position) using the left & right scroll? and definitely, ?NO?, if you are expecting a list of song (like in the main display) where you can scroll down and select the song you wanted to play?

2. I haven?t use Nokia 5300 but for me, the loudness of Nokia 7390 is already audible? :p

3. I just recently compare it with my digital camera that has 6M pixels? I reduced the size to 3M pixels (to equal the phone specs) and took the same scene under the same lighting condition? results? Well, honestly, the digital camera produced much better quality? but then again, with other phone-camera having less pixel, I don?t think they?ll surplus this phone? :cool:

4. YES & NO (again)? ?YES? - it has a flash? and ?NO?, you can?t use it as flashlight? :)

what i meant was like a playlist, so if you have 10 or so playlists with 20 songs in them, can you set them up to play from the outside screen

...what you can do is, select & play the playlist in the main display then you fold the phone...

ive not got my phone yet, but when i do i have to test the camera module.

this phone is currently the best, most accurate camera settings that Nokia have, it is their current internal benchmark phone.

those that say a 1 or 2Mp are better are talking crap.

the resolution of a 3Mp will be better all the time, however that does not mean that the quality is better, quality is a personal perception and varies person to person.

the most perfect picture is generally not preferred by end users as it doesnt have as much saturated colours in it

Users prefer a brighter more colourful picture than what was the original scene

Is anyone able to confirm that the Black Chrome version of the 7390 is available in asia (definitely not available in New Zealand, and it won't be released here, according to vodafone NZ, best way to get one is Trademe)? Because i see the black chrome colour listed in the nokia-asia site, and the singapore and malaysian site, which means they should be available in those areas, however the black chrome isn't on the HK, China or other Asia-pacific sites.... I'd like to know cos the black chrome is the only colour out of the 3 i actually like!!!!

Finally got myself a Bronze/black shipped from Singapore, it's sweet, however, need help with some Questions...

A) I used to be able to switch on Delivery reports on my old Nokia 6288. I'm with 3 in Australia and the network does support reports. The 7390 manual says you can switch them on via Message settings, but the delivery report option is not there. Is there a reason why it isn't there? It's supposed to be in the options below.

Messaging --> Message Settings --> Text Messages --> Delivery Reports (this option DOES exist under "Multimedia Messages" though, go figure)

Would really appreciate if anyone knows how this can be switched on for text messages. Now that I've used reports, I really miss them! :-)

B) How do I check the version number of the software? How can I update it if it's old?

Hey, i'm from Australia as well

to check your firmware, press *#0000# which will bring up a listing with a bit of info about your phone (this works for all Nokia phones)

After that (make note of the firmware version) take out the battery, and find the product code, which is a 7 digit code which identifies what model your phone is and what country it comes from, mine is 0543262 (Nokia 5300, red, Australia) and put it into this website

If the version it comes back with is higher then the one on your phone you might like to update

download Nokia Software Updater from this website (it doesn't matter which phone you pick as it downloads the same version of Updater for each)

make sure you leave the phone alone while it is updating or you could "brick" it (meaning you have messed up the firmware install, resulting in an unbootable phone)

Well mine still looks like it's V 03.84 dated back Sep 2006. From the previous page though someone said the latest is V 04.51

Since I bought mine from Singapore & am in Australia, should I be using the software updater from nokia-asia?

If you feel more comfortable doing that, go ahead, but i think no matter where you download Software Updater, you get the same version

It may fix your issue, unfortunately Nokia don't release change logs of firmware upgrades, so it is unlikely you will find out unless you ask someone with the upgrade, or you upgrade your self, but by the looks of things the firmware you have, is one of the very first made, so if it was a silly mistake they might have fixed it (if not, they are probably other enhancements as well by the firmware)

if you do it, make sure you backup you contacts, files etc, and as i said, don't fiddle with the phone, becuse you don't want the cable falling out ;)

Thanks again for that Akeks. Well I tried putting my friend's 2G sim card into my phone and the delivery reports option appeared! I was worried it might be directly assigning the setting to his sim card, but I switched on reports anyway while I had the chance on my phone.

I then put my 3G card back in (which works fine showing the option on my old Nokia 6288), and I sent a test sms. It worked and a delivery report was returned to me!

So don't know what that means, whether it's a phone, sim card, or network bug or a compatibility thing for each, but that was the solution for me. Hopefully I won't need to turn it off anytime soon!

So there you go for anyone else who has this delivery report problem with this phone. Try another sim card! (cannot be certain it's a 3G/2G thing though).

I might hold off with the firmware update until I've at least had the phone a little while. Don't wanna blow it away in the first few days. I got the latest PC Suite though so yeah thanks will do about the backups (which incidentally I only just discovered you need to use the backup and restore if you want your sms messages transferred from one phone to another i.e. just using the phone browser to copy and paste from the message folder does not work)

Anyway, hope these little things help someone in future.

There isnt any low brightness problem in the fone.Its just the light sensor which changes the brightness automatically.Well its not a problem but makes it more comfortable to use at night unlike the other s40 where the brightness is always the same and painful at night.The keypad is good with quite big keys

Right, fine ! So the light sensor is doing its job well : the screen is not under bright.

I have difficulties with keypad with no feedback or no "click" when pressing... (like N93i that you own)
