Hi All,
I was trying to get some information on the new 6131 model on the internet and came to this forum. Looks like no reviews have been written yet. Gives me a chance to be the first one to review this phone.
I got this phone after a lot of research and reviews. I intended to buy a PPC (Pocket PC) with GSM mobile capabilities in the first place but dropped the idea cause it was too expensive and plus the features wont be that useful to me. Wouldn't utilise it completely.
My next choice in Mobile phone was to buy one with atleast a Megapixel Camera, FM radio, MP3 player, Voice Recorder, GPRS, Speaker output. With these options in mind I went out in the market looking for one that suits my choice and to be frank, LG, Samsung or Motorola didnt carry all these things as a package at all!
Then I started looking at Nokia phones. Looked at the 3250 - solid build, good feel, but a 2.0 MP camera (I already have a sony cybershot 3.2) so this was off the list. Plus the 3250 has no FM radio. Then looked at the N series. These look a lot like boxes than phones. Then there was this sleek new model lying in the glass shelf. Picked it up and was surprised it was Nokia. You dont see a lot of Nokia flip tops. Now this felt good in the hand, soft leather feel and the screen inside was big really big. Although this was a demo piece with no live demonstration, I went on to read about it and it had all the specifications I was looking for. A megapixel camera, radio.....etc, etc.
I had to get this phone and got it immediately the next day. Bought it at a shop for a real good price, got it home, put the battery in and I was in total awe. I couldn't believe the Colors on the screen.
You would be surprised to know this as well, but the phone has 16.7 Million colors in the inside screen and 626k colors on the top shell screen. A whopping 16.7 Million is no joke folks. Once you ahve a look at the colors and the clarity, you wouldnt settle for anything less, I promise. Installed the sim and the purchased 256MB (Micro SD Card), oh yeah the card is so small, you'd actually chuckle on the fact that you pay so much for such a small piece of plastic. Its like smaller than a penny!!!
So, got the cards installed, started installing the Nokia PC Suite in the PC only to find out theres no USB cable in the Box. Yup, its not included with the pack. You have to buy it as an accessory. Its the CA-35 cable jsut so you know. Just another way, Nokia makes more moey off of accessories. And this cable aint cheap either.
So, got the USB cable and started transferring music and pics from the PC instantaneously. Attached the given stereo headset and went into the music player and what exquisite sound. It sounds just like my sony boombox. You can select equalizer settings of Classical, Rock, Pop, Jazz plus two other that you can configure to your liking. So, sound is amazing. FM Radio reception is woth a mention as well. Its so clear that you'll forget your listening to radio and mistaken it for your playlist!
Now the Camera test, its a 1.3 mega pixel camera with .3gp video recording feature. The 1.3 MP is truly what it is. You can take pictures at a whopping resolution of 1280x960. But one thing I hate about the camera is its ability to take pictures in less light. It gets grainy and pics come out green. For some reason theres heavy tint in the camera. I still need to figure out if I there are some setting to fix that. I hate to find out its defective. But if any of you know how I can fix that. Please mail me @ <no email> .
Once you click the pics and view them in the pc you will be amazed at the clarity.
Its a great phone altogether and I give it a 9/10. One less for the camera tint and probably the battery backup.
You want a Nokia with a camera, FM radio, MP3 player and the works, there's no other than the 6131.
Mail me if you have any queries: (no email. if anyone want to email khajster, PM khajster's and ask for his email. BS)

Well today I'm pleased to hear a word from Eldar, and I really love to see your review. But please don't leave alone 6125 too.
Khajster, thanks for your review and could you tell me more about reception and built-in speaker quality.

Khajstar, ya thanks for the review, i would also like to know abt mobilerose's above two questions.

Hi Mobilerose,
The reception is great. Although there is no Antenna protruding outside the phone, I was a little skeptical about the reception as well. But, so far travelling within the city in a radius of about 20-30Kmts no problem at all. I see all the signal bars all the the time.
No voice breaks or call drops either. This weekend, I will be going outside the city and will test the reception there as well.
Also, I think the service carrier coverage also plays a major role in the reception front. Out here where I live in Hyderabad (India), Airtel has the best coverage. Dunno if its a rumor or truth but this carrier has the strongest frequencies compared to others. This is said to be harmful as well as it can distress your hearing. But, hey who cares, we've got one life to live, why not live it talking without any breaks or low signals, right!
I've been using the built-in speaker at home and the office for listening to music and radio. It is good. I have to reduce the volume not to disturb oters around me. Its not a boombox type <40 Watts or anything like that but for a phone this is ENUF. Plus, you have the headset if you want private conversations or wanna listen to radio or music.
I noticed that the Phone speaker on the Flip where you listen to calls and stuff, it sounds like someones talking through a hollow tube. It sounds different compared to desktop phones or other mobiles. It's not bad, it's just different. I'll get used to it.
Another thing I noticed is the voice command. I don't think we can train the voice command. Searched for this option in the phone and looked for some details on the net, didnt find any. You have to start speaking like MICROSOFT SAM if you want to use the voice dial or voice activation features. Guess, we can get used to it LOL. I hardly use the Voice activation, so don't care much about this feature. Something good to have and show off to others, thats all.
Bluetooth connectivity is fast and camera quality is superb. Thats my second day observation. Using BlueSoleil with a Bluetooth dongle for copying and deleteing images and songs and using the Data cable (CA-35) for Outlook Contacts, TO Do and Calendar synchronisation.
Any more queries, just shoot!
Regards,
Khaja

Good job, Khaja.
May I ask you some more? Really I shouldn't ask this question that have you ever dropped that phone? Anyway, how do you feel about the strongness of that body as I guess Sillywilly also want to know. The reason of my silly question came from when I've had Moto V-360 and I dropped it just two days after I've got and it never worked again.
That's why, I'm afraid to get Moto cool V3i, even I like it a lot.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the great comments. I love writing about things that really impress me and the 6131 is no exception.
Hey Sillywilly, the build quality of the 6131 is great. The curves on the phone and the soft feel all over just makes this piece melt in your hands. Looks like Nokia finally got some great curves on a fliptop model.
The buttons are big and soft. Texting is real easy and infact you'd love to keep texting and pressing the buttons. Unlike some other models, the buttons are hard to press and for some you need your finger nails for the buttons to work. The buttons on the 6131 are more practical. Less buttons more usage.
With the power button on the side of the handset, you don't have to flip it open to turn it off or turn it back on. That's a good feature. I love opening the fliptop with the side button. It makes it look more mechanical.
The vibration is really good as well. This phone has vibration settings like dots and dashes or continuous vibrations. You would feel it vibrate even in crowded places when you keep bumping into people or standing in a queue. The vibrator serves its purpose well.
Now, the battery, well, this is really a slim phone with a slim battery. I charged the battery after a complet drain about 24 Hours ago and with about a half hour camera usage, half hour of music and radio, about 10~15 minutes of talk time and half hour bluetooth usage, I have just one bar left. I know I have to charge it tonight as well but thats cool. I open the flip top and I get mersmerised by the colors and fall in love with it all over again.
The battery could be a concern if you use the MP3 or camera a lot. If you want everything in one casual usage, then go for it, otherwise check out other models with more mAh battery power.
But I thik its still too early to talk about battery right now. Couple of days of charging. Maybe a few more times and I can get the right potention of this battery.
Hey Mobilerose, yeah, I know how it feels when gadgets get dropped from your hands. The mobile I used earlier was the LG RD7230 and this got beat up real bad. The worst thing was it just wouldnt give up. It kept working and working. I was driving my bike to the office one day and at about 60Kmph speed on a small highway, the RD7230 dropped from my jacket pocket and ricoched on the road tarmac. Someone saw the phone called up home and returned it to me an hour later. I was surprised to find out that it was working after such a big fall. It was bruised up on the side and got huge scratches on the outside clam shell but the camera and the phone features were still flawless. Now that's a phone I would love to have all the features of this 6131.
The 6131 is really light. You don't feel its heaviness in your hands and I think because of such lightness, if it falls, it wouldn't get damamged extensively. Maybe the height of the fall would matter but it feels good though. Not like the Nokia 3310 where you throw it off a second storey building, just walk down, put the peices back to gether and start talking like nothing ever happend.
But, I would hate to drop this piece and know the consequences.
Anything else youd wanna know, just holler!

Thanks Khaja, that's fair enough to me, why don't I buy one for myself. But I'm still eavesdropping to 6125 user, these only two models are in my mind. Also hoping that getting review from Eldar soon.
My blood goes warm when you said about the 6131 screen, as I'm an addicted gamer. Have you ever played game on your newbie? Cool?

Hi Mobilerose,
Because of the 16 million color screen, the games look as vibrant as ever. There's a soccer 3d game and the ever popular snake game. When I first got the handset, I thought that it'd have the regular snake game, you know, with a line going through bullets and extending itself. Instead, I was taken by surprise with the 3D snake game. You follow the snake over its head in a complete 3D environment with grass and objects and a cememnt wall to block you. I was amazed with the game play and the graphics.
The soccer game, I tried briefly. Gameplay is fast, but still need to learn the controls.
And the third game is Flash sudoku. I opened this application, saw its complexity and immediately closed it. But it looked good though.
I think you can install flash games on this device and play, sInce it has a flah player.
So, you like games and good graphics with sounds, this is it!

Wow man, that is a very good review!:)
I wasn't considering Nokia 6131 before, but now - definately!
I have almost excluded v3i from my list and now the battle is between nokia N71, nokia 6131 and samsung e770:rotate:
and if I can ask a few questoins:
Do you know what is the video recording resolution in 6131? Although I don't have big hopes:(
How much time do you think can the phone work if you are only listening to the mp3 player?
And my third is: can you post or upload some of the pics made with the camera of 6131?
I hope I am not too insolent with the last:p

That's a big drawback of the 6131 for me however...
N71 and samsung e770 can make video at CIF (352x288):(

Rocky, i can't say anything about the N71. But if i were you i would make sure to go to a store and hold/test the E770 to see if you like it. I have a D600 now...my first samsung...and i wish i had never bought it. It's not very bad but the samsung UI is horrible and a lot of little annoying things showed up during the months i've used it. So if you had a samsung and you know the UI already than it's ok....but if you never had a samsung i suggest to check it out first before buying...cause you might be very disappointed with it. Of course that's my personal opinion on the D600.
cheers,
Willy

Yes Rocky, I agree with Willy on that matter.
I'm using Samsung D500 for now, and UI and the reception make me really disappointed. But honestly some features pleased me too, and these brought me to buy a slider even I'm a flip lover.

Hi Rocky,
The recording resolution is what chlettn described. Yes it is disappointing. But hey, if you want a better resolution video cam, I know great Cybershot cameras or even sony handycams that you can keep for videos (as you can see I am a big sony fan). But this Nokia fun is durable and its sturdy.
I havent tried it with MP3 yet, but soon will and hopefully post the times here.
I got this phone during the week, so didnt travel much to chekc out the pics. However, this weekend I am gonna freak out with the camera and post some pics. I promise.
Oh, just today I learned about the Nokia presenter program and I was amazed to move the cursor on my computer with the help of my 6131 navigation buttons. Simply amazing. Enthralled my compadres at the office as well.

Hi All,
Does anybody know if I can browse the internt on the phone using the pc as the medium. I mean, I have broadband on the pc and wish to browse the internet on the phone through it.
Thanks in advance,
Khaja
id love to know if surfing using your pc broadband connection over bluetooth works with the 6131. ive seen some guides on how to set this up for s60 phones and it seems like these guides wont work with s40. does anyone have any experience with this that would care to help out with some info or link to a working tutorial?
Rocky Bg, i was also wondering what to buy Sam E770 Or N 6131, Sam 770 has flash light, externel Mp3 butons but no FM. SO i decided to buy 6131 even it hasnt flash light coz of its display and keypad, it is amazing yar just amazing.
Hey everyone, I was doing a search on the net about my new phone the 6131, and came up with this thread. Just wanted to show you some photos that I took on it. I saw the question someone said about the quality of the photos, so here are some - they are not perfect my any means, but they are good considering the size of the phone!!
I will post them in a minute. Then I'll do a review for you. :)
Hi again, I hope I'm doing this right :D
Let me explain the pictures. The first two were out in my garden, the first is of the lion statue, the only critisism of this photo would be that the colours seem to be washed out.
The second of the plants, I think this is an exellent photo considering the size of the camera!! You have a lot of depth of colour, it doesn't struggle with the different shapes or tones. All in all I think this was the best photo I took.
The third and fourth photos were of my cat. The first I edited to be half the original size that the camera took it in, which means that if you wanted the photo bigger to print out etc, then it could go double that size.
The second one of her head, is at the size it would be at 100%.
I don't think the camera takes bad photos personally.
OMG, I don't believe what just happened!!! I just wrote a LONG review for you guys and it got lost :( :(
Ok, in brief, here's what I said.
I bought an N91 - but after much mucking about with it getting it all set up etc, I decided it was just too big for me, I didn't need all the functions on it, the battery life was really turly awful, and I was terrified of breaking the damn thing. Within 2 days of having it, I had already dented the steel case and when I sold it two weeks later it looked like I had purchased the phone about 6 months prior because it looked so awful with all the scratches and knocks!! ( and I am very careful with my phones!)
I decided that after previously having the 6170 (which I was more than pleased with) I wanted something similar, but just more up to date on technology, so I did my homework and came to find the 6131. I was pleased with it from the very first time I got it out of its box!
Phone looks: can't be beaten, the phone looks awesome, it feels great in your hand, it's not too big or too small, just fits into the palm of your hand well and is very easy to text on or to take calls on!
The paint is great too, it feels velvety not rubbery, and the weight of the phone is good too - it goes into my pocket and I forget about it being there.
Music quality: This small phone offers amazing sound quality on playback, I was impressed with it from the start. I had to buy a SD card for it, a micro one, which is a Gig in size because you can only fit one or 2 MP3s in the phones memory before it starts to give you grief on other stuff like themes etc.
I wasnt upset that I had to get a card for it though, because I can whip out the card, stick it in my computer and off I go - swapping files here and there in a jiffy. The infared connection is fine, but a little slow.
You get some graphic equalizer settings on the MP3's too, so you can play rock/jazz/classical (there are about 6 or 7 pre-sets to chose from) - and be safe in the knowledge that whatever kind of music you love, the tones and bass and treble of the playback will be good.
The symbian 2 technology is great, the interface is pretty and easy to use, and everything runs smoothy.
The buttons are a good size - so if you have bigger hands it's perfect.
The LCD screen is AWESOME! I can't begin to tell you how happy I was with it when I turned the phone on for the first time.
It is like a mini Laptop screen - it's clear and bright, the colours are amazing, and it is by far the best screen I have ever seen on a mobile phone. The little one on the outside is just a clear and good. My only concern with the screen is that I don't know how to clean it - and being a woman I wear makeup and it gets on it.....not sure what is safe to use to clan it off with or if you an get a specific protective layer to put on it....will look into that.
Phone Battery life: I keep hearing that this phone has a terrible battery life, but I am wondering if people are just taking that from the first time they charge it? You have to charge a lithium battery for at least 3 times (from dead each time) in order for it to get up to full capacity.
I get 6 hours continual playback on the MP3 player, and that's also using the hpone for texting and a few phone calls in between.
If I just use the phone as normal, taking the odd photo, using it for texting and calls - then I get 4 or 5 days between having to charge it.
I would say if you are always texting and calling people then you might have to charge it every 3 days. I don't think that's bad, I use to have to do that with my other phones.
My only critisism of it is the video playback. It's grainy and jumpy, but to be honest, it's the only thing I can think of which is irritating on the phone. And I hardly ever use my phone to record anyway, so if you're not into taking vids on the phone then it's not an issue.
The actual PLAYBACK of videos (which have been downloade to the phone and not recorded by it) is fine - they run beautifully with no jumping etc.
All in all I really do like this phone, it's good good looks, it plays MP3's and video - it takes reasonably acceptable photos and it's lightweight and has amazing screens on it.
I would definately recommend it to anyone!
Any other questions please ask away! :)
Emmauk, thanks for the review, its nice. thank u very much for the photos. i was waiting for that long time. one quiz, is the video recording unlimited? or its stick to 5min as 6125?

Emmauk, thanks for the review, its nice. thank u very much for the photos. i was waiting for that long time. one quiz, is the video recording unlimited? or its stick to 5min as 6125?
Hi All/Nuwa,
I just checked the video recording ability on the 6131. With Video Clip length setting = Maximum, Video Clip quality = High and Video resolution = 176x144 (highest option) and the Image and Video Storage setting set to my 256 MB memory card, this is what I get in the recording time on the top right hand of the screen. 2:47:50. Yes, that is 2 hours, 47 minutes and 50 seconds. Amaaaaaaaaaaaazing. I couldn't believe my eyes!
Oh and by the way, attached are pics that I took from the phone today. I got time to go out and shoot some pics. It was real cloudy here today, so some shots are not lit up as well. Some are picture perfect. Following are the details of pics as well. I am posting pics that really show out the camera's greatness and pics are not edited in any photo application:
1. Picture of my car taken at the mechanic (like I said, cloudy day. But check out the shades and colors). Check out the reflection on the left side of the car! (800x600 resolution)
2. Pic taken sitting at the back of a motor cycle going down a bridge. Remember, cloudy again, but check out how true the weather is shown in the pic. (640x480)
3. Picture of kids (my daughter in the red dress) playing with a kitten. Same day same weather conditions. I wanted to post this pic for color balance this camera has. The red dress, the green plants, etc. (640x480)
As you can see I limited the resolution from 640x480 to 800x600. This is because I wanted to check how good the pics come at this resolution. I am sure, if I took some at 1024x1280, the clarity wud've been much more astounding and breathtaking.
Oh by the way, I use bluetooth to transfer all the images to the pc. Beats the pain of attaching cables and initializing the application on the pc. I use cables only if I wanna synchronize notes or contacts from Outlook.
I still don't believe the clarity the screen on this phone has. Heck, it is better than my CRT desktop monitor. I enjoy viewing pics on my phone a lot.
I am really proud of myself for having bought this phone.
Ciao,
-Khaja
Hi Nuwa, :)
as Khaja said the video isn't limited IF you chose the right options. So if you chose the settings like Khaja said, and you have enough space on your memory card then you can record as long as you want to.
Also, I forgot to mention in my review...this phone has VIDEO CALLING ALERT!!! So you can get your best friend to record a video of him/her saying 'hello it's me, pick up the phone' and every time the phone rings you get it coming up and playing!!! It even plays on the small external screen - how cool is that?!!
:jump:
Khajster, thanks, hei u have a beutiful little daughter no, say hi to her.

Khajster, the pics are amazing! There is a very tiny blur that is typical for Nokia (much more evident on my old Nokia 7250i, just like it is typical for the Sony-Ericsson to have white artifacts, that is of course about low res/quality cameras - K750i and N70,71, 90 make amazing pics, but they have some issues too:) )
Back to Khajster's pics, as I said they are very good, well the camera was my main concern on the 6131, but I don't worry that much now.
Like someone said before on this thread - this is just a phone afterall and if you want good pics, buy a digital camera, but you don't carry a camera everywhere you go right? My 7250i makes pics at cif resolution (352x288) and despite that I have more than 1000 pictures on my computer. I mean that when something worth pictureing happens around you, it is good to have a camera in your pocket, right? But I am releived now cause 6131 is perfect for the job:rotate:
But I have a question for you two lucky owners of 6131:)
How good the night mode is?
On my 7250i it is awful - it produces just a black picture, but one of my friends has a N70 and it makes amazing pics at the same conditions and even without the flash - the n70's night mode is great.
Can you make pics with phone closed? How much of the screen is used for viewfinder?
Emmauk, you mentioned video call alert which is another great feature! My friend has it on the N70 (3rd party app) but with bigger videos it sometimes takes about 2-3 seconds to start and sometimes they lag. How fast the video is displayed on the 6131? My brother has a K700i which can display animated gifs as call alert, but video is way better! Also how big is the picture/video on the front screen? Cause on most Nokias the pic is really small. Like this

Well guys you don't have to answer to all our questions:) But I would be really thankful:jump: :jump: :jump:

Well nuwa I am not from the UK, I am from Bulgaria. But I can tell you the prise here:
Nokia 6131 = 250 euro
Samsung e770= 230 euro
You seem very determined to buy the 6131 and to tell you the truth if I can find the money I will probably buy it too. I am starting to like it with every single day. But aren't you gonna wait for the review?
Can I ask you what other phones were you considering before? I am looking for a cool clamshell, but I can't find the perfect for me, one of them always have something the others don't:jump:
I almost ruled out the Motorolas V3i and V3x, but still...
Hi folks, Yes I am from the UK, the phone costs ?300 (you can convert that to your own currency if you use www.xe.com)
It is expensive, but I got mine on Ebay, for half that price. I paid ?150 GBP
As for the video....it comes up pretty much full screen. on the outside screen that is. There are no lags, it's very very fast and good quality. The best bit is seeing a loved one coming up with their smiley face on the screen telling you to pick up the phoine! I'm not sure about how big it comes up on the inside screen....I'll have to test it out tomorrow and let you know!
Have the phone on charge right now.
I am starting to like it with every single day. But aren't you gonna wait for the review?
Rocky i have had enough for waiting man, u know today yes today 6131 came to sri lanka. now the price is too high for me man it's 360 USD, it means Rs.37000/=. my god i haven't that much of money, i have 290 USD. i asked rest of the money frm mom but ................ too bad 4 me ha. then i went to father he scolded me for buying that much of pricy phone. im still studying and its too hard to pay 360USD for a phn. anyway i'll see something to do.
Can I ask you what other phones were you considering before?
frankly my first choice is samsung. so cheked every clamshell in sam and at last found one and its E770, but it doesnt have FM. also it isnt still available in here. then i saw the 6131. i love that phone. but it was also not available in that time. next i looked abt V3x, but i dont like its design its too big 4 me. so then it one and only 6131.
one of them always have something the others don't
yes rocky, i prefer 770 very much, it also has flash light, 6131 doesnt, external mp3 buttons, 6131 doesnt,

Hey Rocky,
The 6131 has a 262k color screen which can be completely used for setting wallpapers or viewing yourself with the camera. Just like a mirror!
The entire external screen is used when taking self portraits.
Yes, this phone has video call alerts. And I just checked if there is time lapse when a big video plays. I downloaded a few .3gp videos on the phone and set them to my desk phone number. I called with the desk phone and the video started playing immediately. No time lapse at all.
You want a flip model with all the goodies in one little bundle, dont look any further. The 6131 seems to have that perfect balance for everything it caters.
Some people don't like flip models. They like cigarette boxes, good for them. But the sleek and smooth curves on the 6131 are spellbinding.
Oh and if anyone is worrying about the nighshot feature. I have a couple of pictures taken with the night shot off and on. Check out the difference yourselves. Although the frame rate is slow on nightshot, the pics come out really well.
Photos taken right outside the building I stay in
Pic 1. You can check how dark it is.
Pic2. Nightshot brings light to the darkness.
I say Kudos to the Nighshot on this camera.
Also, something else I noticed with this model is the base of the phone. The complete backside of the phone has a soft black rubbery feel. This makes me so confident keeping the phone anywhere I want to without having to worry about scratching the battery cover. The softness feels good in your hands as well.
Hey Nuwa, I didn't realise you were from SriLanka till you mentioned the price of the phone. Its for 360 USD  !WOW!
I live in India and I got this for Rs.12000 which is around 260 USD :)
I found the 12000 price a lot decent compared to other phones in the market and their features.
I really hope you get this piece and enjoy what it has to offer.
Anyone else, like to know any thing more, holler and I will answer.
Ciao
-Khaja

My God is that true khaja, boy i have to find some more money, there is a 100 USD difference
wow i think night mode seems very very very good to meeeee
Thanks for the pics khaja
Emmauk, you mentioned video call alert which is another great feature! My friend has it on the N70 (3rd party app) but with bigger videos it sometimes takes about 2-3 seconds to start and sometimes they lag. How fast the video is displayed on the 6131? My brother has a K700i which can display animated gifs as call alert, but video is way better! Also how big is the picture/video on the front screen? Cause on most Nokias the pic is really small.
Ok I checked about your question last night, I recorded a video and then set it to play each time my home number was calling....it came up virtually full screen on the outside screen.
There was absolutely no lagging, and that was with the video set to maximum settings.
Hope that helps! And I don't mind anyone asking questions....
khajster - you got that phone for a REALLY good price!
Guys Guys , I got I got I got Oh boy i love this 6131, yes i love this phn. at last i got it. boy this is cool sound is great. my friends r now bit jelous with me now. camera is GOOD. night mode is amazingly good. Seems they like the phone a lot: "One of the best clamshells ever"
Hope to see MR review asap, I want it as my second phone :)
Would be really great if some one could answer these questions i have about the 6131
- Can the phone read ID3-tags? (So i just have to transfer my mp3s on to the memory card and the phone automatically organize the songs after artist, album) or does all the mp3-files just end up in a big long list?
- Is the phone good for looking at videos? (You know like a Family Guy-episode) or is its processor to slow to make the videos look good? (15 fps or 30 with playback?)
a[B][i]s
30-06-2006, 01:01
i would also like to know the answer of what oskarrr asked,
1- If the video is in mp4 format not.3gp than how is the output i mean seriously how good does the video looks?
2- How loud is the loudspeaker of the phone, is it anywhere near w550?
3- guys for how long should we have to charge the battery first time? and as
Emmauk said lithium battery should be charged three times than how much longer should be the charging period?
watever the answer of first two questions are im buying this thing :)
(15 fps or 30 with playback?)
its 15fps playback.
[i]s"]How loud is the loudspeaker of the phone
i haven't hear frm w55oi, but i can tell u the loudspeaker is very LOUD.

I am finding that whenever I get a text message, if I look at the time the message was sent, it says it's been sent 6 hours before!! What's going on? does anyone have the same problem? I got my sister to send me a text message today (she was at my house) she sent it at 11am, it told me that it had been sent at 6am??!!
Anyone know why that would be doing that???

Well, I checked the Phone Language settings and I see English, Hindi and some chinese type characters. Two languages like that actually. So four in total available in the handset. I guess, one of em would be Chinese.
You wait for the phone man. Trust me it'll be worth it.
Oh yeah, for all the 6131 owners/lovers out there, I got some information on the theme maker and would post it soon. I spent two hours yesterday right before the match trying to create a customised theme. I am sure with time, it'd take much less time.

oh ya khaja, how much u bought ur sd card?i bought mine 1gb for rs2900 which i think is VERY expensive + no warranty given....back in msia(my hometown) its selling at ard rs 2000 for 1gb micro sd >.<
1 more thing to 6131 users out there?
can we create multiple playlists for the mp3 player?or there's only 1 play list available?
khajster
06-07-2006, 14:00
Hey Guys,
Putokia, I am not sure about the playlist option. But I checked, the settings in the phone and no Playlist option :-( But that's cool, you can order the songs how you want em. I got the 256MB Mini SD card for Rs.900 here. So, a GB would cost 4 times that. But, hey the 256 MB is more than enough to store a decent number of songs. Plus, if you synchronise a lot for pics and stuff, the 256MB will be more than sufficient. If you were using a pocket pc or something, then you wouldve stored movies and stuff, then you would need a 1GB card.
Nuwa, Your right on with the N70 comparo dude. I hope your friend gets a good deal on the N70. If he has recently bought it, he can probably give it back at the same shop and get the 6131 in exchange. I didnt know there were Java apps for this phone. I will try some out. Have you tried any so far?

Hey gsgs (I wish you'd had a better nickname than gsgs),
The mic is located on the top in the inside.
If you wanna answer with flap open just press the Green key or the call key. Or you can have Anykey Answer option turned on.
If you wanna pick up the call with the flap closed, turn that option on and press the up and down arrow keys, or the camera key to answer. Not the power key.
The USB cable cost me Rs.1600. And bluetooth dongle cost me Rs.300. But I will go for a much better Dongle, which I am sure would cost me some amount, but it will work better. The Rs.300 dongle keeps failing at times.
Hey Nuwa, I checked the site you mentioned - zedge.net Wow! What an amazing site. I downloaded like 60 themes and wall papers for my phone already. The themes do take a while to load on the phone but they look so awesome. I will pretty soon make my own theme.

Hi All,
Like I promised earlier with pics of the just opened Mc Donalds here in Hyderabad (South India) for the first time. Attached are the pics.
Rocky, these are especially for you.
I wanted to take my Cybershot camera to make the moments very memorable, but I decided to trust the 6131 camera instead. The pics came out very well. Better than I expected actually. I can modify these pics in Photoshop and get some more better contrast or brightness.
But the 6131 camera didn't let me down and got some great snaps. Check em out below for yourself. I took about 25-30 snaps and videos with the phone but couldn't post all as there is a 5 Attachment limit to these posts.
It was a great experience being the first cutomer at the first McDs in the state and the 6131 made it even more memorable.
-Khaja
hello friends
Thanx khejster and nuwa for u're feedbacks...........I really...........really appreciate the help but im afraid that I've got 1 more query and that is there is no call register shown when a call is made and the other end answers it or when a call is attended to. All it shows is just a "CALL SUMMERY" at the end. Can you please help with this?......coz with the "call meter" its easy to end calls before a new "call minute" starts (unfortunately all my calls are ending just when the whole new minute starts.............and dat hurts!!!!). Also, cn you tell wherez its internal antenna located and to be frank.........im still confused about the mics position that you told me:insane:
and hey kul pics you got there and thanx for the links.
as for the name............c'mon its just a name but I agree with you and it does sounds rather flat but I got a reason to bear it.......simple!!!:D

07-07-2006, 10:58
Hey gsgs,
Regarding call registers. WHen you make any outgoing call, it is there when you click on teh call button on standy. Select the call that you made and click on options and there you will have Time of call option. Click on that and it will tell you everything about the call, the time and the duration. If you wanna check details about missed or received calls, chekc out the call logs in the main menu. This will register each and every instance of all calls.
I think you are looking fo rthe minute beep option and sorry to say but this is not available in the phone. There is no setting to set minute reminders for calls in this model.
The antenna is inside the phone on the top side. So, when you talk and when you hold the phone to your ear, don't worry you wont be covering the antenna to lose signals.
And the mic is in the same place as the Loud speaker. Don't worry, You will no way cover the microphone while talking, and clarity is amazing.
-Khaja
Hi khajster,
You mentioned that call can be answered without flip open the phone..is it true???? I am actually looking for the flip phone that can call without open flap. Do you need to do any setting for that function??
TQ.

07-07-2006, 12:20
Hi mrcr1,
I just checked this funtionality in the phone and yes, you can receive a call when the flap is closed. You can talk well as the mic is outside but I was not able to hear the other person. I had to press the top part of the phone to my ear and then I could hear the other person faintly. I think this is because the voice is coming from inside the flap and not outside.
I am not sure if this functionality is well suited with this phone. I would be cool to receive calls when the flap is closed and end the call also. But I find it way cooler to open the flap and talk. Looks stylish.
But calling a number without opening the flap, this feature is NOT available in this model.
-Khaja
hello Khaja
I really appreciate your efforts for clearing my doubts and it was a relief to know that I wnt be blocking the antenna during a call and also about the speaker as now I now where to point my nose when I talking on the external media :D
Buddie, I'm not looking for minute minder function coz after a large scale banging my head with the user manual ..........I finally realized that this feature was not there (no regrets either ) and now confirmed by you too!
Sorry to bother you again but wot I wanna know is .........here it goes (plz bear with me on this)
I make a call.........it connects........shows the active divert msg and then the menu.......speaker option.........and the name of the caller im calling BUT no call timer during the time when I am attending the call. All that is there is a call summery when the call is ended and due to this........during the call I have no idea when is my new "call minute" is going to start so that I can manage my conversation accordingly.
I hope I was able to be more elaborate this time.........:spy:
plz guide if therez a way out of it :(
Thanx a lot once again
Hi mrcr1,

-Khaja
Khaja, thank for your explanation. Anyway, can you listen to mp3 while the flap is closed? If you did, the speaker should be outside and not inside..unless the speaker used for music is different from the call.
khajster
07-07-2006, 15:05
Hi All,
mrpcr1 - when you listen to the music or mp3s, sound comes out thru the loudspeaker by default, so if you close the flap, the music will still play.
But the call speaker is in the ear piece unless it is manually diverted to the speaker.
So, you can listen to songs when the flap is closed.
And gsgs, as far as your call timer thing goes, sorry, to say, but the 6131 does not have that feature. I just tried it and i don't see time if I receive or make a call.
Hope, I got your answer this time.

Hey gsgs,
You know, I was concerned with the flap moving as well. But then, this figures out just fine. The movment is for the extra space the button to open the flap is used for. The gap is to give the flap free movement. If the button would not have been incorporated, then we wouldn't have had the flap moving sideways.
This slight movement would not affect anything and it should not be taken as a defect.
If you notice the movement carefully, it would be the left side only that moves. That's because of the button on the right.
So, don't worry, it's not a defect. Just something to make way for the really cool button feature.

Hey Zoobo / Everyone,
Is there a way we can update the Firmware using a pc, instead of having the phone checking for updates. I don't have net connectivity with my service. Don't require it actually, but I wanna get the latest firmware for my 6131.
Any help is appreciated.

Yes, thats correct.
I checked the nokia.co.in..............nothing there..........in fact 6131 is not even there in the list of models. The link given led to europe.nokia. and isn't it different and not applicable for us in India?>
Plz correct me if I'm wrong.
another thing.........hv u seen it getting powered up for no reason once in a while? mine had at least 5 times in last 12 days. If not.........any suggestion other than running to the nokia ppl whom I got it from? :D
khajster
09-07-2006, 10:06
Hey gsgs,
The 6131 is listed in the New Releases section in the nokia.co.in website. I think the European link would also be applicable cause there is only one site that the phone would connect to for FOTA.
But I don't think we'd have to worry, cause our phones are with the latest firmware (ie. V 03.70)
Getting powered up? You mean when you turn it off, it turns itself back on all the time? Or does it power on, even if its on? If the phone starts to soft boot all the time, I'd suggest you get it replaced / fixed.
hello khaja/everyone
sorry......was in a bit of a hurry. Actually, I meant that it restarts!!! (yup it powers on even if its on :insane: )
It has happened to me a couple of times when I will start some activity (getting familiar with the fone itself) I am using Hutch as connection and can surf the hutch.co.in and the home page of nokia. is it gprs or wot? cn it be a virus or something else? have not receive any MMS or sent any (other than to myself as part of the MMS activation procedure)
and I guess I missed the model on the nokia site on the support section........vl check again.
although this restarting thingy is not a problem coz its very rare (about 4 or 5 times in these 12-13 days that I have it) but wots bugging me is that Y shud it be doing so? another thing buddy.........if its indeed faulty how am I gonna prove it to the nokia ppl..........coz as this problem is very rare.
thanx for the feedback man and vl be looking forward for u're advice :)
can this phone play music while typing sms ?meaning minimize the mp3 player while opening other applications
khajster
09-07-2006, 19:39
Hey guys,
gsgs, Call the Nokia people and find out about the problem. If it is something they have heard of, they will ask you to bring it in and replace it or fix it. If not, then I guess, you'll have to wait to break all apart before getting it replaced.
Hey, I was wondering, since its restarting so much, maybe the battery is fit loose? Try removing the battery and check if its loose anywhere in the back there. Or if somethig is obstructing the power pins. Just something maybe you can fix on the fly.
Oh putokia, I just tried, sms'ing with the music on and it works! I can do anything with the music on playing in the background. Boy, you sure are picky when it comes to mobile phones.

I haven't tried it. Waiting for delivery.
:2jump:
Arrived a few days ago. Been playing with it ever since.
Lots of great features.
Using 1Gb Transflash card to hold MP3's.
Great sound from internal speaker with equaliser.
Can listen to MP3 over bluetooth headset.
Easy menus
Great colours
Sudoku included
Other Comments:
Poor reception from FM radio.
Would have liked radio to work without cabled headset.
Still coming to terms with Mini display (on front). Trying to see more info.
Too easy to turn on camera and turn off phone accidentaly.
Can't control MP3 player when phone is closed.
Had trouble getting CA-53 data cable to work - can be tricky. Solution:
Uninstalled Nokia PC Suite
Downloaded latest PC Suite from Nokia (6.8 r2.2 in AUS)
Turned off Zone Alarm
Installed latest version
Plugged in phone using CA-53 and it worked.
Still a long way ahead of other phones.

You said your having trouble with the camera and power buttons. Try Auto key lock. It's a great feature. This would help you from the buttons being pressed accidentally.
The mini display int eh front can be tricky. I use a wallpaper which is really light, like yellow or white mix images. I am still trying to find out, how I can change the Clock font color change in the mini display, help, anyone!

I would like to know the above too
Thanx
i'm sure u'll figure out something khaja............vl b waiting for u're feedback.......
all the best :)
BT or datacable?
if BT........plz suggest wich one?
waiting for the expertise :)
Had the phone about 3 days now and it's brilliant.
How can I check my firmware version?
Like a few of you have said, the only bad thing I can find so far is not being able to change the font colour on the external screen.
Other than that, I haven't come across anything bad yet!
Oh, and it only saves a maximum of 20 delivery reports... My 6680 was unlimited.
Love it.

Hey gsgs,
BT is better any day for synching pics or themes or songs. But if you want to synch with outlook or other apps, I 'd suggest the data cable.
I bought a really inexpensive BT device and thought it'd work fine. Well, it did work fine for a day or two and then problems start coming up. I thought my phone was not working well, I mean the BT in the phone. But eventually it turned out to be the BT device. I am gonna replace the device again for the
2nd time now and I know for sure, that I'll be going back the third time.
This coming weekend, I plan to go and get a branded BT device. I am sure there are several available in the market. Once I get that, I will post the review for it as well, here.
Oh by the way, I still couldn't figure out how I can change the Time font color on the mini screen. That's cool though. Atleast I have the option to change the Wall paper for the mini without changing the wallpaper for the main screen. I don't worry about the font color any more.
Thanks for the confidence in me gsgs, but somethings are left better untouched.
Oh, I know where the speaker is, duh, anyone would know where it is when the loudspeaker is turned on. I wouldn't want to pry open the case just to be surprised what I find. I am sure it's either a miniscule microphone or a speaker, but I don't really care to find out more since its working just fine.
Hey Playdead, you can probably give us the link to Eldar's review and we can find out the real surprise.

-Khaja
Thanks khajster,
I still sometimes knock the button when I'm talking on the phone.
But your solution is good when phone is closed.
Although if AutoLock is on and phone is closed I can't hit the volume button to wake up the mini screen so I can read the time.
The font for the time on mini display is so small when it's in sleep mode.
khajster
11-07-2006, 07:43
Hi RicHochet,
Yes, the autoclock would hamper the visibility of time. Especially at night when your in bed and want to view the time, you can't see it at all with the flap closed. That's why I don't depend on looking at the phone for time during night time.
The clock font on the outside flap in standby is really thin. But its not too bad. You can see view time in direct sunlight or even in a low lit area.
What I've done is, I've turned off the auto lock feature. You'll get used to the buttons and prevent them from being pushed accidentally. Well, atleast, I've got used to it. I don't keep my phone in the pouch either, thanks to the soft shell which does not get scratches what so ever.
-Khaja
Hi guys.
I red all of your posts here and i think i am in love with this phone. I red all reviews on net that i could find (although i am sad that this site didn't post one yet coz reviews here are really the best) and i think i am gona buy it. I am from croatia and here in T-mobile it costs about 160 euros, contracted ofcourse. I went in T-mobile shop and looked the phone upclose and personal. So the decision has been made. :) Now i have one question: Somene here said that when you use phone for the first time you have to charge the battery for about six hours first few times. I wonder if this is really the case and if it is, is it better to charge it whet its turned off or on or it doesnt matter at all???

Hi Frki,
Thanks for the great comments and from all of us 6131 users,we would like to welcome you.
Just search this thread with any keyword and you will find the answers you are looking for (for this phone).
The 6131 battery charges in less than 2 hours time, whether its brand new or old. You don't have to keep it connected to ac power for 6 hours. When the display shows battery full, its full.
Also, remember these are Lithium Ion batteries. To get the best use of these batteries, drain them completely before each charge for the first three to four times. After that you will see full potential of this battery.
It's not much use if you charge the battery with the phone off. It's the same as leaving it on.

Rocky, these are especially for you.
...
Wow thanks for the pics man. They were quite good. Especially the one with the menu was much more detailed than expected. The ones you made outside were also quite good - restored my faith in 6131 :)
And how come you were the first customer - that is incredibly lucky :jump:
@ Playdead - isn't it pointed in the manual? As somebody else said could you please give us a link to the place where Eldar made the riddle? I checked the Russian forum today and - wow it is crowded with stuff about the 6131 - I wish my Russian was better. Only the main thread is 23 pages long :rotate:
Also, from what I could understand Eldar likes the 6131 - and he usually dosn't like Nokias - especially non-smartphones...
The English review should be on later or tomorow I hope - well we have actually discussed most of the stuff here already:)
But there was something interesting I noticed in the Russian review of 6131. It looked like - "do it your self" lesson, but I'll just wait for that...
Which reminds me - Khaja and all others 6131 users - does your main display hold fingerprints easy? Also does it have a protective screen? Because somebody told me that it doesn't and it is like the old laptops - meaning that the picture flickers (like a water effect) if you press the screen. Please tell me that this is not true...

Hey guys,
gsgs, I've searched hither tither for an option to get the timer display during call, but dismay :-( As of now, I don't think there is an option to view that, but hopefully there might be an app or something that will show us the time for calls during calls.
Wow, your on STD or ISD calls most of the time. Must be a real busy person, selling stocks or bonds???
The only other thing, I would hate to suggest to you is to go in for another Nokia model (that might display calm time) or live without this feature with the 6131. But, who knows, maybe someday an app will come out that will enable this feature, who knows!!!
Hey putokia, where you playing with the cables and stuff when you got the local mode in the mini display? Well then, just unplug the cable, and remove the battery. put it back and turn the phone on. This should help you out. Lemme know how it goes.
Oh, if you wanna post your theme, post it on zedge.net. This is an awesome site where you can get loads of themes, wall papers, ringtones, every damn thing that you can put in your 6131.
Oh guys, I was using Google and searching for images on the phone and I searched for Katrina Kaif (just like that) and the pics came out just like on TV. It took just seconds for the pictures to come up on the vibrant display. Once again, I can't reiterate enough, the display is amazing. Although, battery is low but I don't mind the display, makes up for this shortcoming.
Also, I disconnected Airtel GPRS cause now I know how it is, plus it takes less than 4 hours to get it activated again. Instead I am going for WAP, which is lot cheaper like Rs.99 per month unlimited browsing and I can view news or google with it.
Atleast now I know the potential of this great wonder with internet.

Hey Rocky_Bg,
The screen does not get fingerprints that easily. And it does not come witha protective screen.
I felt the screen too valuable to be left bare for hands to touch. So, I thought of an idea. I had screen protectors for my Sony Clie lying around. I cut one of the protectors to the size of the 6131 screen and pasted it on. Now, I don't worry about the screen getting scratches and stuff.
I would suggest the same for all 6131 users. Not just Sony Clie screen protectors but any touch screen device screen protectors should do. The trick is cutting them to the exact size of the 6131 screen.
The water effect that comes on the screen when you press it is perfectly normal. Its the Liquid crystals that get displaced when you press on the screen. This happens on all LCD display monitors, TVs, cell phones. The brilliant 16 million colors are due to these Liquid crystals. So, don't worry if yo see the water effect, this is perfectly normal. Just make sure you dont keep it pressed for a long time or don't even touch it again. This care should be taken with all LCD display devices not just this phone.
The outside screen already comes with a preotective cover, which I dont think would last long. But it's good for whatever time its worth.
Rocky, I hope your a little relieved about the LCD display now.
Take care,
-Khaja

Hi all,
Any 6131 user has tried out voice command / dialing??? Please comment.

12-07-2006, 06:24
Hey mrpcr1,
Good thing yo brought up the Voice dialing feature. I remember way back when I used the 3310, I used the voice dialing feature and that too trained by my own voice.
Now coming to the 6131, it does have the voice dialing feature, but something Nokia missed out is the training feature. You have to be able to speak like Microsoft Sam if you want voice dialing to work. And trust me, not even a no accent american could match Microsoft Sam's lingo.
I'd have to enter like 2 or three a's or o's in the names so that it spells it out, but then the whole contact list gets messed up. I don't rely on the voice dialing thing much now. Unless of course, I can train Microsoft Sam, which I think is not possible as of now.
So, all in all, voice dialing, yeah, the phone has it. It's a great feature. But in order for it to work you have to get trained to Sam's voice and not the other way round.
Hey, if you can talk like him, hell, there's no other better voice recognition than the 6131.
Enjoy
Khaja.
Hi everyone, me again! :)
Have one question.... I've heard that transfering songs and other stuff via IR is rather slow. Now since i only have that otion in my laptop i am planing to get BT adapter, but also i am considerng buying a card reader. Which one would you guys recomend??? Card reader would be a little bit more expensive option, so can anyone tell me about BT?? How much time it needs to transfer say 100 MB??
my suggestion is to get a card reader...if u plan to transfer 1gb data to microsd card BT is going to take YEARS.....card reader is cheaper than blue tooth dongle
Well i wouldn't transfer 1 Gb,rather 256 or 512 at top....but i guess even that will be faster with a card reader. Thanks!!
Does anyone know will i be able to transfer games via IR, since i will not buy card and a reader so soon?! Do i do that with Nokia PC Suite??
Sorry for dump questins, but i haven't bought phone yet and i wanna be sure about everythig since i will be stuck with the phone for about 2 years.

Hi Rocky, can you translate it to English version. Can't read RUSSIAN:eek:  . TQ:jump: :jump:
Well the first link is to the riddle: Basically Eldar asks where the microphone is (not the speakerphone, playdead:rotate: ) and gives some hints like: that this is done for the first time in any mobile - there is no mobile phone with such microphone location. And in the second link he explains where the mic is and that it is done to ensure better voice clarity, plus explains how this new technology can be used in future phones and what advantages it has.
The funny thing is that in the manual that Khaja gave a link to - the mic is not specified. In the your phone section, where there is a scheme of your phone and arrows showing: 1. screen 2. soft keys 3. Pop-port 4. IR and so on ... The mic is not specified (the loudspeaker is though and it is in quite unexpected location)
everything can b transfered via BT, infra and data cable
screen protector can vary frm cheap to xpensives ones...if u are buying da fon frm shop u can demand for a free screen protector i think...dats wat we get in malaysia
if not 1 wil b ard 3-5 us$

Hi Guys,
Frki - Let's start with your queries on the card reader, Blue tooth and IR.
IR is nice and good but this was used before Blue Tooth. I still use IR with my sony clie, to synch up memos or contacts, but then thats it. I can't gather patience to keep it aligned for transfering songs or apps. Sure, you can transfer huge chunks of data in IR but it takes a long time. Bluetooth is way better.
Now, Bluetooth, I use bluetooth when I synch songs or apps with my wifes Slvr L7 or with the PC. I get a tranfer rate of 80~90Kbps with the bluetooth dongle, which is fast enough for transfer of a few songs (like 10 or so) and images, wall papers or themes. But, this is definitely a better option compared to IR provided you have BT connectivity between devices. If not, then IR is fine too.
Now, comes the card reader. It doesnt come without a cable, so you need to use it near a pc or a laptop. Plus, the 6131 is card hotswappable and you can easily remove the card and plug it in the card reader. This is way more faster than IR or bluetooth. I recommend using the card reader for transferring hunge data like lots of pics or videos to and from the phone and pc.
So, to conclude, sunching memos or contacts - use IR, few songs, pics, videos etc. - Bluetooth and large data tranfer use the card.
You get lots of card readers in the market that are really cheap. I got an 8 in 1 card reader here in Hyderabad, India for just Rs.250. Now that is really inexpensive (I wouldn't say cheap :-) ). Doesn't sound good.
You get screen protectors for real cheap. In Rupees here in India, I can get a good screen protector for less than Rs.50. And much cheaper some places as well.
So, its not that expensive when you consider the work it does. I doubt you'll get a screen protector exact fitting to the 6131 screen, but get any and cut it out. Not that hard.
Hey Shethsa,
Welcome to the group and can't wait to discuss 6131 topics with you. Fire away, Pal.
Ciao

The mic is not specified (the loudspeaker is though and it is in quite unexpected location)
So where is the mic then? I can't find it!
Ok... I have my first problem (Khaj, I'm looking to you for this one my friend!)...
Ringtone/Messge tone problem.
When I get a call, or message, the sound is quiet for about 3 seconds, then suddenly goes louder. And before you ask, no, its not on ascending.
Has anyone encountered this, or is this a fault?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hey Guys,
I've been awfully busy at work for the past couple of days and today (Friday) is not exception either. I haven't looked at this form in a few days so please bear my late replies.
First off, I don't think I'll be getting the bluetooth device this weekend, cause I might be getting a much bigger item. I might be buying my first ever brand new car. I have gone to the showroom, chose the color, submitted the papers for loan approval and it all boils down to tonight (Friday evening) when the showroom guy calls me up and gives me the loan status. Good chances of getting it. And if it gets approved, tomorrow morning (Saturday morning), I will be getting a brand new WagonR Vxi. Can't wait! As you mustv'e already imagined.
But, if I do get a chance to drive around the city and I get time to pickup the BT device, I'll do that and post the reviews.
Okay, lets begin, the Mic. Mace, I am dumbfounded as well with this mic thing. We know the mic is somewhere but can't find it or reach it. I am not that daring to open this little gadget and experiment as long as it works. But if I do get information about the mic somewhere, I will surely post it here. I'd love to open and check out the internals but scared to mess up something. And I am out of fresh green paper to spend on another phone. Honestly!
The ring tone, yes, its quiet the first time it rings and on the second ring, its loud. I did some research with this. I fiddled with the profile personalisation and checked out rings with each bar in the Ringtone volume. The ascending ringtone comes only when its on high and not on anything lower than the highest setting.
So, if I set the volume on the highest (All 5 bars), the phone rings, its low and then it comes to its original tone. But, if I set it to anything lower than the 5 bars, the ring tone does not ascend. I actually like this feature, why? Because, if I set it to the highest, go out in the crowd, on the second ring certainly I'd know that the phone is ringing but if and when I go indoors with the same ring volume (highest) and I forget to change the profile, I can pick up the phone in the first low volume ring. I mean, isn't this a nice feature? Sure, there is the ascending option for ringtones as well, but that'll be helpful in like super quiet places, like at nights in the house or in the library.
So, I would call this as a feature rather than a defect cause we all have it and if it's a defect, I'd love to have it. But, a feature like this is well thought of by Nokia and kudos to them once again.
What do ya all think?
-Khaja
Khaja.
Hi Khaja, did you mean that the voice command/dialing in this phone doesn't serve it purpose al all???

Hi Guys,
Mace, thats for the thumbs up. Really makes me feel good about what I write. This keeps me going on and on.
Nuwa, What am I gonna do with my Maruti??? Certainly not sleep with it! LOL. Remember the good old kiddie days folks? When we used to sleep with our favorite toy and wouldnt let go of it even going to the bathroom? Remember? I miss those days a lot. But the 6131 still sleeps with me and I always adore its ergonomics. So pleasing to the eye.
Well, I didn't get a call from the showroom tonight, but am all full of hope for tomorrow. Eventually, I'll get it. The first thing I'm gonna do when I get the vehicle is listen to some smooth Kenny G saxophone in the stereo, windows closed, cool breeze from the A/C wrigling through your hair. Aaah, now thats luxury. Can't wait to feel that.
Oh, am also planning to get a car charger for my phone as well. With the low battery power, am sure, it will come in handy at times.
Well, catch you people later.

Hey mrpcr1,
The voice dialing feature, is good, it does serve its purpose, but you have to get used to it. That's all. But, I like going through the contacts which is much more effecient.
