Ciaspook U give me the strange and power ;) I was thinking about go for 6280 becouse i need a new phone but now i think i should wait some more time and finally get 6233 in my hands :)
One thing is strange about 6233 if release date is so close why there is no review or more new info or detailed specifications of this phone (personaly i`m very interested about recorded video resolution (640x480?) but not a sign about that anywhere (checked in real of course), becouse rest of funcion are realy good for me :) ...

Yes, seriously about deadlines and much other things, so much bugs in new phones (exemple 6280 it`s a shame for Nokia)... Now is diffrent time then few years ago... Now SE Samsung and more companys can do very good phones, and client is paying for quality not for a companys logo... This how i think, simply example compare SE and Nokia phones in the same price: SE gives the same or better spec + much better camera, AF , and much more and Nokia ? It`s greasy in everything looking for the same price SE... But it`s a NOKIA... I think this time is over and Nokia should know that is over of their monopoly... OK maybe that was an old example, so lets check something new... SE K790i - Nokia 6233 (bouth models will be in a similar price, it`s the same class of phones) what have nokia does not have SE ? Hmm, let`s see :

Nokia: Standby time 340 hours, Talk time 240 minutes
SE: Standby time 350 hours, Talk time 420 minutes

Camera :
Nokia: 2.0 Mpixel camera (without Auto Focus and flash)
SE: 3.2 Mpixel camera (with Auto Focus and flash and also much more photo functions, and much better photos quality)

Other functions are almost the same with small diferents...

One more thing i`m using only Nokia since 1993, but now i think it`s time for some changes if another companys have the same or best products in similar prices or sometimes much cheaper then Nokia...

UK is very conservative country (mainly), we don't have same situation here. In Russia Nokia is leading too, but samsung and moto are very close (not SE though). So are ppl sticked to samsung and moto brands too? I think no, that's why they (samsung, nokia, moto) have big phones portfolio, every segment is filled (in contrast to SE ;) )

Netshdw, I'm not sure, but I think the 6233 will be cheaper (320 euro excluding taxes), donno about the k800, but even w810 costs more now. 6233 is a mid-range model, and k800 is a flagship phone for SE.

It's not now, K750i was one of the best selling over christmas, now the W800i has taken the crown. The K750i has had a much longer steady sales life than the 6230i so far. Once problem with the 620i is that people didn't see and upgrade there, so avoided it.
The main reason for any drops in sales for the K750i now are lack of stock :)

The K750i and 6230i were rivals, even with different specs and prices. The K800i and 6233 will be rivals, there will be a similar rivalry, and it's all down to how much of a price difference there turns out to be in reality. As most people in the UK get phones on contract, there is a good chance they will both be free on the same tariff.

you mix your wishes with the reality. especially before x-mas there was a problem with SE phones, because there was a demand, but no supply from SE.

in certain countries operators even cut on promoting SE phones and withdraw them from the x-mas plans.

it might surprise you, but even nokia 6630 was selling better then k750i and its clones.

I'm just working from my experiences selling phones...
The RAZR was a very fast selling phone, as they painted it pink, which seems to be Motorolas only tactic right now...

The 6233 and K800i are similar specced, and aimed at similar markets to the K750i and 6230i though.

If the 6233 is around ?250 sim free it will be a pretty good buy, but ?350 for the K800i will be good too... for te extras you get it will be worth it for most people.
At the moment nearly 9/10 contract phones we sell are on T-Mobile, and the most common of those is Flext 35, working on that the K800i is most likely to be free from launch, and the 6233 free from ?25 on 18month, ?30 on 12.

As I said before, the 6230i and K750i were rivals at different prices and with difference capabilities.

An new 512 miniSD costs 22€ here. How much a Duo pro costs? U dont wanna know. I can use SD to my pda, camera and transfer data to thousands of SD devices. Stick? Just for Sony. Ok about the card. Nokia wins.

Screen? lol my 6280 has better than v903 and much better than w900. Want hear more? Nokia wins here too.

Menu? The new S40 is by far the best non-smartphone software.

SMS/MMS, i think K750 stores about 150 sms. Im not sure. Nokia much more.

Camera. K750 wins in photos, Nokia in video.

6233 is 3G, k750 has not even EDGE.

About sales, nokia has sailed 6230(not i) more than any phone untill now. I believe that nokias first in sales phone is much much more sold than SE's (k750)...

Regarding displays: I don't think you can say anything about that yet (when comparing it with the K800, as everybody else did here...)
S40 being the best? It has a few serious shortcomings (media/video capabilities, e-mail app, saving files sent over bluetooth only in the internal memory, no 'multitasking' with Java apps...), so I wouldn't be too sure about that either...

Not had it side by side to a 903, but next to the W900i there isn't a huge difference. The 6280 has slightly stronger contrast, but that tends to enhance encoding errors, like compresion artifacts on jpg images. Just like the photos from it too.
The 6233 would be using the same screen as the 7370 wouldn't it? That screen isn't as vibrant as the 6280, it is similar to the D600 though.

K750i has space for 200 SMS, K800i 1000 (according to the latest whitepaper), though it still lacks folders.
T9 better ey? What about the fact it can't remember capitals for customer words. If you add someone's name to the customer dictionary you have to manually change the first letter to capitals. SE T9 also remembers your most commonly used words and suggests accordingly. The simple example is "Mum", it will always show as "nun" on a Nokia, whereas an SE will see if you use "mum" more than "nun" and then suggest the most common one first. Or the fact you can't switch to caps lock until you have entered one capital letter first.

So the change from mini to micro SD is somehow different than the change between M2 and Duo? You still have to buy a new memory format for the 6233.

Yes. So you can recieve large files if you need to, you aren't limited by the internal storage. I've sent a 40Mb file to my W900i with 1MB free internal.

well, the K750i and 6230i are roughly the same. We can't comment on speed of models that aren't out yet.
SE have the Activity Menu, similar idea to the today screen, just takes one press to activate. Personally, I prefer this as it leaves my desktop clear.
You don't have direct control over icons or layout, which allowed me to make my 6280 more like and SE, but it does support much more advanced themes with Flash based menus that can be any style you want, not just 4 ;)
Messaging is differet, not better or worse. Just different.
Font colour is taken care of in the themes, unlike S40. You can have any theme and wallapaper you like on SE, with S40 you have to make sure to adjust the font to see the wallpaper, but then it can be hard to read in the menus...
I have themes that came with the 6280 that give white on white text, you can't do that on an SE.

Faster? Comparing 2 phones with same screen (w900 - 6280), the nokia has faster file manager even when all files r stored in the SD and not in internal memory (w900).

Have you even tried the phones? I own both, and I can tell you for a fact that the W900i file manager is much faster than the 6280. I have a 1GB Duo in my W900i, there is less than 100MB free on the 1.5GB total memory, and it's still massivly faster than my 6280 with it's 64Mb card with 20MB free.

I think someone need to check his facts before posting. If you have a valid point, no problem. But if you are guessing without backup you are going to get yourself flamed.


Now back to the 6233, can anyone answer my questions about the Bluetooth and whitepaper?

If I'm not in a rush I will send files over BT to my phones, it's less work than plugging in a cable or card :D
That's why I'm interested in EDR on Bluetooth, the specs for EDR are a transfer speed of 2.1Mbps :D

Nokia is screwing us over on the 6233. It should have been out months ago. Can't see any reason to delay it anymore. The hardware is less spec'd then the 6280 and it uses the same software platform. Get it out already!!

All this about 6233 is a little strange... Nokia N93 is one of the newest phones and have allready interactive demonstration and what bout 6233 ? 6233 should be in market earlier then N93 for exemple so what`s going on with this phone ? Maybe somebody knows the answers ?

Just received my 6234 and after 1 day it is going back due to a fault with the speaker.

Will I get another one.......... hmmm....

I upgraded from a 6230 and was surprised at how much bigger the 6234 feels, guess that is 3G for you.

Phone feels nice in the hand but it is a bit slow.

Menus - well a lot more complicated than the old 6230 and it looks like Vodafone have restricted how customisable they are.

Screens good and so are the loudspeakers - but thats it

All in all don't think I like it.

My 6234 arrived last week and I've been playing with it non stop since. My last phone was a 6230 with a 1gb card and was happy using it as a mp3 player for 2 years but realised its getting old. Initially wanting a series 60, I found them currently too expensive and bulky(maybe next yr) so I decided on this instead and have not been disappointed.
Good points:
*superb crisp large screen (240x320)
*very much improved series 40 v3, same as 6270/6280, which means there are some great games out there that use this new resolution and 3D java abilities already. More settings than you will need, and great front screen that shows calendar notes if you want, and so many quick link options to personalize. video playback can now be full screen.
*power/sleep mode - like a laptop so seems like the battery now lasts ages if this is turned on. sorry I can't be more specific how long.
*camera and video are both great. Quality 640x480 video does mean very large files! Also has useful purpose camera button on side. Video's audio can now be aac quailty rather than amr with the stereo speakers this is a vast improvement.
*You can save games/apps to anywhere and the file manager will recognise them, so you do not have to have them loaded on the phone memory.
*Had no trouble with smaller buttons.
*comes with Bluetooth Presenter application (but see bad points here)

Bad points:
*the new nokia phones have a new smaller charger socket, so no longer can u forget your charger and rely on someone elses. This was always a positive point for Nokia being so popular, shame. I will just have to remember to bring mine with me.
*Nokia keep changing memory card types, which is annoying and it takes time for the the market to release large capacities of new formats. Older memory card types you can get 2GB+ now. And a 2GB micro card is not due out for months yet, apparently. PC RAM increases in capacity as it changes the same cannot be said for phones.
*Maybe its is just my phone but the new headphones that were supplied have a dodgy connection and do not work well. I may have to take it back if this keeps happening.
*when trying to load some games/apps it sometimes (rarely) doesn't load and by default it then marks the file as not working. I have to switch my phone on and off, before I can try to open the thing again. It then works fine.
*no flash for the camera, SE have had a basic LED flash for sometime now.
*I have been unable to get my presenter application working, but will no doubt persevere, as this is a great Bluetooth app allowing the user to control their PC through a Bluetooth connection. I have seen a demo of this with a W800 and was impressed.
*most old series 40 games do not work well coping with the larger resolution. Most apps do as they are more likely to use Java's built in libraries than define a 128x128 canvas area.
*still cannot FF/REW videos.
*silver case rather than black makes the phone appear bigger than it is, as its really quite small.

All in all a very good phone...(thats my review)

Thanks for information sharing. But please tell me, i'm wondering about one thing. I see that you have chosen 25 fps as a framerate. Is this officially supported? On N6230i it was 15 fps for 3gp movies but when you would
use 25 fps sound and video would, after some time, became desynchronous.
Sound would be lagging behind video. I suppose this is not the case on 6233/6234? Maybe a silly question but i'm very interested because
I know how it would look on 25 fps and with that bitrate. Very fluid, excellent to watch.

And one more thing, I hope i'm not too boring. Does it have some office documents viewer? For files like .xls (Excel) or .doc (Word). Have you tried it perhaps? Thanks.

This is not entirely correct. Although 6233 and 6234 have some differences in software and aesthetics level, they are virtually the same device. Technically speaking. Video performance, camera, multimedia handling.....they are all on the same level. So this two mobiles can be easily compared.

My first reactions:

I havent used an Nokia phone in several years so most of the things
are new to me form what im used from my previous (SE k750)

Positive so far:
- The build quality of the phone feels solid
- I love the buttons(lovely to write sms)
- Menus are very quick on response
The new S40 version is good,although im still not used to it
- Video quality is the best so far i have seen(compared to 6280)

- Used the phone fully charged since yesterday (11pm)
I have used it heavliy, bluetooth, mp3sms calls etc...
Its still 30-40% battery left, but it will decrease after i have charged
several times. So so far its good enough for me

- Havent used 6270/80 but i would say its more or less
same as with both them

- Yes it has flightmode you can do everything expect calloing(ofcourse) when
in flightmode:)

The black looks so much more better. Nice phone, I suppose but 2 mp camera phones with an mp3 player are getting boring. Every other phone in the market has those features now a days.

legend_killer_666, this is a business phone, not designed to be outstanding in camera. This is not at all competitor for walkman, or cybershot fones. With this old camera they couldn't possibly have wanted to..

i was checking 6233's specs and come up with the fact that it comes with a BP-6M-S battery, ...i was wondering is it 1100mAH ? or does it comes with a different capacity than the normal BP-6M batteries?

ACErash i think your right there.Looks like 6233 uses BP-6M-S battery with 1100mAh.Nokia updates their batterys so its kinda hard to know what capacity is in which battery depending on device :-/

Well we have allready seen the 6234 cam pics.Its got the same cam as 6233 (6280) which means poor quality.I dont see any point of sharing any moore pics :-/

Btw it only takes few minutes to take some pics and post them up here..
None of the 6233 owners havent done that yet and i dont blame them.. :spy:

Phone is available in holland. gsmtrack has it in stock now. Ill order mine tonight. Its quite expensive at this store at 340 Euros. But I just want it before my holiday!! Come on 6233 owners... PLEASE :), I am also curious to the music player...

I have had the chance to play with it in a store today, and took some pics, but for some reason the phone didn't offer bluetooth, but only mms (there was no card in it anyway) and infrared, which was so slow i could only transfer two of the pictures (there wasn't many things to capture)... they both moved in because of the low light, but this one may show something useful.

The quality is below the N70's/E70's, very similar to 6280 (as accepted). IMO in some weeks firmware updates will follow (as in case of 6280, i think) and the artifacts on the images will decrease...

They have both versions! Its the EU version with the dutch language! Just check the site. I just ordered mine one hour ago! Hope to have it friday!... I also ordered the black! SO COOL with the chrome (steel) combination. Also got myself an 1GB micro SD, so I can use it as music player, instant camera and video recording....:jump: cant wait!

erm... its weird to hear 6233's camera is this poor, still i'd rather to see some samples, by the way, it would be stupid if they use the same crap-camera that they used in 6280... Grr... wish they would choose 6270's camera module instead, specially since 6270's camera is far more better than 6280.

Is the Nokia 6233 standard UMS compliant? like the Nokia 6230i i.e. plug and play, no properitery drivers required to transfer data like a memory stick, on to the phone or memory card?

No, there isn't a datacable with the 6233 package. Yes, you can transfer files with bluetooth to other phones. Yes, you can play music and do other things on the phone.

No point in posting pictures from the 6233. They are the same as on the 6280. Other then this I have to say I am very pleased with the 6233. Solid build, love they keys, fast menu, just big/small enough, looks very nice, great screen. And the batterylife is pretty good. I end up charging it about every second day with moderate use. And so far there is no dustparticles on the inside of the phone. Promising :) And I gotta say, the black edition that I have is just damn sweet. I love the design :) The sound is good, loudspeakers and normal. You can listen to music on them ok.

Thats most the positive things. The most negative thing I have to report so far is the fact that they dont include a USB cable and that they use a new smaller connector for the charger.

I saw photos from 6233 that had been made on photopaper. It's far from real quality of any digital photocamera. The photos looked like as after water-colour photoshop filter processing.

And as far as the videorecording is concerned and its zoom. It should be (almost) exacty the same as nokia 6234... From our friends of mobilmania in czech is here a video recorded somewhere in prague, which shows what the videocamera is capable of... I think its pretty impressive for a mobile...

I think i've got quite an interesting question to the owners.

I've just tried the silver one yesterday, and i kinda liked the rubber feeling of the keypad (the kind i've seen in my old 3510i/3410's) so i said i was curious about its durability.

But a reviewer - who's just testing the phone for a review site here - said that the black version's keys don't feel rubber-like. Does anyone have opportunity to compare the two version, or does the owners of the black version feel the keypad rubbery?

I just received the phone yesterday at the end of the day!

My first impressions:

The design is so nice. Its so much better than on the picture, the black with chrome is just lovely!

The high-res screen is great. It looks very sharp and there fits so much info on the screen.

The buttons work great, however I have to confirm that they are not 'rubbery'.

You can customize the menu how you want, Just classical in a list, in a roster, but also with tabs --> Which works very nice.

The loudspeakers are very nice. When you listen radio you can easy fill up a 20 sq metre room with nice music.

The camera interface is almost in total copied from SE, Which I think is a good thing, because I think SE did a great job there.

I still have to put some music on my phone and test more extensively the pictures and movies (I bought the phone together with a 1gb memory card).

Some bad points:

I think the difference in ringtone volume between 4 out of 5 (which is a little bit too soft) and 5 out of 5 (which is too loud) is too big. I hope this will be fixed in a firmware update.

When I record movies it tells that I have place for 1 minute and 20 second of high quality video (on my 1 GB stick!!!), however when I start recording, it doesn't count back from that 1m20s. It tapes of course much longer. This also look like a minor software problem, because the phone tells in photo mode that I can take more than 2000 pictures.

Other disadvantage: No standard data cable in package, so I still have to buy one.

Conlusion:

This is just a very very impressive phone, which can do almost everything. There are some minor problems, however nothing what can't be fixed by a firmware update!
