Since Nokia 6280 has been delayed even further I'm considering buying a Qtek 8310 instead. I had a look at one today and it feels pretty good and the displayed is supposed to be one of the best. The only downside is the poor camera and lack of 3G, but I can live with that. The camera isn't much worse than my SE v600...

Anyway, has anyone tried one of these and could share their thoughts?
The price, including shipping and a 1GB Sandisk miniSD card, is 4467SEK (?322 / $567 / ?470).

What I'm looking for is to have my outlook calendar/contacts and a mp3player in my phone. At the moment I've got my SE v600, HP Ipaq 4150 and Ipod 20GB (just sold it though) and lately I've just left my Ipaq at home only because it's too big to have in my pocket all the time... :-/

Btw, this is just a temporary solution until something better turns up. For e.g. SonyEricsson P990 or a upgraded and more International version of Qtek 9100 (HTC Wizard / I-mate K-Jam). I want a touchscreen with block/letterrecognizer but it MUST support input of swedish letters ?, ? and ? - which Qtek 9100 doesn't!

I have one of these - well an operator variant. Its a good business phone, and will get the AKU-2 update for push email...

If you use WM player then this is a great device, with a mini-SD you can sync directly from WM10 and play (& rate) your tracks on the device easly.

The camera is not great but personally I only use it for mms...

Might be worth waiting for the wizard and getting a swedish ROM flashed on it... I prefer PPC to Smartphone anyday.

When? ;) Also, how frequently do they offer firmwareupdates and bugfixes? Can you upgrade your phone on your own or do you need to go to a service center?

Well, at the moment I don't, I use a old version of Winamp but syncing must be easy with ActiveSync anyway. It works pretty smooth with my Ipaq at the moment, I can choose files and folders which will be synced.

Well the Wizard is availble but without support for letterrecognizer. You can easily flash that program in though, but it doesn't support input of Swedish letters anyway. Also, the upgrade wont be here until late Q2 or Q3 and until then I need something new.

I prefer PPC to Smartphone anyday.I do too and if the Wizard had support for input of Swedish letters I would have bought that even though it's much more expensive...

When? Also, how frequently do they offer firmwareupdates and bugfixes? Can you upgrade your phone on your own or do you need to go to a service center? This is all down to the operator, MS have started releasing the software to manufactures, I know HTC already have it as I have seen the wizard running AKU-2. My operator will be launching within a month or three (once trials have completed), this will be ona number of devices not just the tornado. (Universal, HP, Palm etc etc)

I use a old version of Winamp Its a joy using WM on the device, when I rate tracks whilst listing to them the rating is synced back to my WM10 on my PC.

if the Wizard had support for input of Swedish letters Have a word over at www.xda-developers.com they might be able to help.

I'm on Vodafone and here in Sweden they sell Blackberry, so I guess Vodafones network already supports pushmail.

How about firmwareupgrades? It must be HTC that releases those, are is that also up to the local brandname; Qtek, I-mate etc?

I'll probably order a Qtek 8310 tonight. I think the wizard is just too prizy at the moment and I'm not sure if I want a big device like that one yet. Though I did enjoy the qwerty when I tried it... ;)

The device I use is called a Vodafone v1240. This is a global device and should be on sale soon in all over the world soon...

The firmware must be agreeded/tested by the network/operator if they are goning to release (the same reason why most devices get held back with release dates). With people like Qtek/iMate, once they are happy that the o/s works with the hardware they ship it... They have no network elements to worry about.

The MS push email is different to the blackberry model in that blackberry uses a dedicated APN and the Microsoft solution uses standard internet connectivity. Hence if you can get access to the internet (standard http traffic) you can use the AKU-2 functionality of these new windows mobile 5 devices.

badger, do you know if there's a way to hide all of the contacts on the simcard? I've managed to hide it in the regular contactlist but it's still there when I'm browsing the contactlist, while sending a sms, e-mail etc.
I would still like to keep the contacts on the sim as a backup even though I sync with Outlook on a daily basis...

The most prob will be a registry hack to do this but I am unsure of how to...

As far as I am aware the SIM contacts will always appear when dialing from the main screen and also SMS etc.

These contacts are always safe and will not be altered by active sync. I have all of my main contacts on my SIM (also in my outlook) this is coz I use different phones all of the time and dont always have the sync software installed in my laptops.

Sounds fair. I'll see if I can find a way to fix it, otherwise I guess I can always make a backup of the contacts on my computer and then erase all of my sim-card contacts. That would fix it. :)

I'll have a look at that software later tonight or tomorrow evening. My calendar is pretty full right now... ;)
