vimal, that's pretty obvious don't you think?
also tell whether s 60 software work on it or not
Someone is having tooooo high hopes :D
Well, let me tell you about my experiences so far...
First thoughts and impressions (just randomly typed down as it comes to mind):
First of all; coming from a Nokia 6230i it seems like a really giant phone, but that's only my imagination. It's the big display that fools me.
Officially the cover is called 'Dark Brown' and by dark they mean really dark - I would rather describe it as black with a 'brownish glow' to it...
The stereo speakers work fine and the included 3d sounds really sounds like coming from different places, but when the music player is playing my own tracks it seems to me only to be just a notch better than the mono speaker from the 6230i that I had before.
When Nokia says photo flash they really mean flash instead of photolight - it functions just like a real camera and the photos are also pretty decent (i' upload some later tonight maybe or tomorrow afternoon)
The headset is the (to me) unknown Nokia HS-23 which seems to be stylish and well-designed - they feel way better than the Nokia HS-3 fashion headset that I had before...
The new Series40 platform with the Active Standby Screen (ass ;) ) is nice to look at and I predict the ass a bright future (again ;) ) - The only complaint i have here is the Text Message part, when I chose the 'new text message' function to type an sms, then I want to start typing right away instead of first choosing who the recipient is and then typing...
That's all for now - more WILL come later! :)
*EDIT* For those interested I bought for 2850 DKK incl VAT and transport - in ? with a excange rate og 1 ? - 7,50 DKK it's about 380 ?
*EDIT 2* The building quality is the usual high Nokia quality, it's my first slider phone and the phone can be twisted a little bit from side to side but it's barely noticeable, meaning that you can feel it twisting and see it but it's not 1 mm it moves, more like .5 mm
MorteN-, congrats! :)
please do comment on the build quality as well
thanks

~dadam02~, how could he take a pic of the phone in the box with the phone itself?
@ ~dadam02~ :
Of course not, the second picture is the 6270 still in it's plastic bag! They're taken with my own shakin' hands and a Nokia 6230i... :)
I'm currently charging my digicam to take pictures of the phone and it's accessories...
MorteN-,
congrats, I hope I can take one of this beauty soon.

Whats the main difference between the 6270 and the 6280????
Exciting700
01-12-2005, 09:38
mach,
3G and dual stereo serround sound speakers. The 6270 also has a FM radio but the 6280 has a VGA video recorder.
Which vedio recording is better vga or cif
pictures!!! we want some pictures........!!!
of course VGA (480x640)... CIF resolution is 352x288
@ Ronka - Because there's no 3g coverage in my area and I chose the stereospeakers and FM radio over size and design...
@ Rohit - I think it's good, but considering this is my first sliderphone, I have nothing to compare it to. When you put your thumb on the edge right under the navi keys and press slightly it 'pops up' using a spring I think... But when you have to slide it down again, then it's another matter, because if you're only using one hand, then you have to place your thumb on the bottom half of the screen... - But maybe it's just me who hasn't seen the light yet... ;)
- I'll post pictures and video taken/shot with the N6270 tonight and tomorrow do I have a day off from work so I'm preparing a review complete with pictures of the phone and many of the screens of the new series40 v3...
- Please post here which screens you want photos of and which features should be elaborated more extensively...

do the pic(s) seem a bit (just a were bit i guess) blurry to u ? or anyone ??
color reproduction seems to b alright isnt it ?
The kid, I am guessing its a boy, in red seems to actually be moving his head a bit and I am thinking thats what caused the blurryness. The rest of the picture looks pretty decent to me.
Hi
Please can you take a picture of the SMS screen both when entering text and when you get a text with the largest text setting as I have poor vision and this is the phone that i want

congrats MorteN-,
how fast is the UI? is it fast like the 6230i? i hope the large screen and the 262k colors didn't slow it down.
the pic you took looks great, much better than the preview ones i have seen. i hope it's same camera as the 6280.

i'm looking forward to your review!!!!!
rohit, supposing N80 slide is the same as this one, right?
Yeh, but i got to know, it has the springy slide (which is a good thing). so n80 will be different.
I was also curious of the Slide Quality (will it get loose in long term use and all, you never knw nokia may have forgotten the art of sliding :p)...but now no more quiries.
Hey Morten!
I hvilken forretning har du k?bt den henne? Jeg vidste ikke at den var kommet til DK endnu, men hvis d?n er kommet, er 6280 vel ogs? kommet, s? kan du fort?lle hvor du har k?bt den?
Tak! ;)

I was just asking in danish where he has bought the phone...
From MorteN-
@ Ronka - Because there's no 3g coverage in my area and I chose the stereospeakers and FM radio over size and design...
Did you know that 6280 has Stereospeakers and FM Radio as well?
6270 has no advantage over 6280 at all, 6280 is better in any aspects.
Average, but greatly so
02-12-2005, 07:21
Ronka, why would Nokia even release the 6270 if the 6280 was better in any aspects? You're making no sense at all.
For someone who does not require 3G but needs the 850 band, 6270 is better than 6280. (BTW 6280 has only one loudspeaker)
godofcar
02-12-2005, 08:03
6280 has stereo speakers
but 6280 only has one single speaker, maybe it is stereo.........
Average, but greatly so
02-12-2005, 09:19
Only one speaker ---> audio output is mono. Stereo audio is available thru the headset.

oh very nice :D looking forward to a detailed view asap ;)
this is will swing me either for or against the 6280 as they are almost the same phone.
- Intro
It was a dark and cold November night, but suddenly all was forgotten when the nice postman came with a very special parcel for me. It was indeed what I had been anticipating, hoped and waited for - but knowing that none other in Europe had gotten it yet, had lowered my hopes for it to come within the next couple of weeks.
Right now it lies right in front of me and it still shouts, "Come play with me, press my buttons you bad boy!". Everyone knows all the typical Nokia functions, so I'll skip them nice and easy and concentrate on the new stuff. Because of the 10 images limitation in a post, I'll put links to more pictures in the sections concerned.
- Design & Build quality
Let me put it this way, if design was a really important feature for me when I choose a new mobile, I would have gotten the 6280 instead of the 6270. It does have that funny looking 'lower lip' design going on, but I must admit that it's very handy when sliding the keypad - a little press by the thumb and up it goes. As earlier mentioned I thought it was a design flaw that you have to touch the lower part of the screen when sliding the top down again, but now I've seen the light! It's just a matter of touching the side of the phone instead and press a little down with your thumb and down it goes. Also mentioned earlier, I don't consider the fact that you can twist it a tiny bit a building mistake or bad craftmanship, but simply a necessary thing that allows the slider spring to function correct.

- Functions & Features
I must say that the new Series40 is much better designed than the previous version, but maybe it's just because I'm not grown entirely accustomed to the new UI yet that I'm not all that fond of it. Especially when looking at picture 27 (Useability section) and 29 (Menu section) - I can't exactly pinpoint what it is, but something just doesn't feel right.
The Active Standby Screen is a feature that I just recently heard about, but back then I didn't think it was a feature I was going to use. I stand corrected, it's brilliant - why NOT take advantage of the "phone's desktop", the standby screen?
If you don't want the Active Standby Screen, you can still choose to use some of the unused standby screen space to show your Navi-key shortcuts (in my case: Camera, My Active Standby Screen, Phonebook, New SMS)

Game - Golf Tour (http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/org/PC020038.JPG)
- Picture & Sound
Not much to mention here, the camera looks and works perfect. It takes photos just like the K750i/W800i phones from SonyEricsson. Finally Nokia has seen the light so to speak by putting a flash next to their camera and also seamless zoom instead of stepped zoom.
The Radio, Media Player and Music Player works just like my previous phone the 6230i, no innovations here except the improved design of the new series40. Although I've searched everywhere for it, I can't find the 'Fly-mode'/'Offline-mode' to the music player that someone has been talking about, it simply doesn't exist on my 6270.
Warning - I was listening to music via the speakers (which by the way isn't as bad as I first stated) at full volume and then I put the earphones in my ears and plugged the headset in (in that order) and the shock I got was brutal! It sounded way way louder than the music ever did on my 6230i, the volume scale goes from 1-10 and there's no need to hear music in the earphones higher than 5-7...

Music Player (http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/org/PC020030.JPG)
- Menu
The Main Menu now has 4 different display options; List, Grid (3x4), Grid with names (3x3) & Sheet style and the icons are animated and in 3D.
http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/PC020025.JPG (http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/org/PC020025.JPG)http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/PC020029.JPG (http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/org/PC020029.JPG)
Sheet style Main Menu (http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/org/PC020026.JPG)
- Useability
First point of critique! From back in March '04 when I got my 6230, I always have programmed my Nokia phone to go to 'Write new SMS' when I push the navigation key to the left. This isn't changed now, but with the new series40 when I chose the 'Write New SMS I can't start right away by writing, I have to chose who the recipient is first AND I DO NOT WANT THAT! I want to start writing and choose wo it should be to afterwards. Maybe some can see the good in this new feature, but I'm not one of them.
Another thing, why can't I choose the Inbox as a navigationkey shortcut? First Nokia accustomes me to having a shortcut to my Inbox on a navi-key on my 6230 and 6230i and then they removes that option. This simply must be a mistake - why can it a shortcut to 'Set Time' and 6 different profiles but not the Inbox?
Anyway - The 6270 is very userfriendly with so many way to make shortcuts to your favourite functions - 2 shortcut keys, 4 shortcut on the navi-key and furthermore shortcuts in the Active Standby Screen...
Speed only becomes an issue when entering the Gallery, Memorycard or talking about the shutterspeed of the camera - so basically the expected places.
http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/PC020027.JPG (http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/org/PC020027.JPG)http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/PC020028.JPG (http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/org/PC020028.JPG)
- Connections & Software
Nothing special to report here, IrDa, Bluetooth and an included USB-cable in the package - It took less than 10 minutes to install, setup and connect Nokia PC Suite 6.6 to the phone. I'm guessing it's a new feature, but when you plug the usb-cable in the phone you have 3 options; Standard (PC-Suite), Print (Print pictures to a PictBridge compatible printer) and Data storage (The mini-SD card 'pops up' as a removeable drive in your pc) This is a handy feature when you for instance only need to add or delete some music stored on the memorycard...
The 3 usb-options (http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/org/PC020036.JPG)
- Accessories
The following accessories were included in the package:
Nokia CA-53 - The Usb-cable
Nokia AC-4E - The new Nokia charger with a smaller phone plug
Nokia CA-44 - A transformer plug so you can use any previous charger from Nokia instead of the new charger with the noticeablely smaller plug
Nokia HS-23 - The stereo headset
Nokia 128 mb mini-SD memorycard
http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/PC020011.JPG (http://www.unj.dk/Nokia/2/org/PC020011.JPG)
- Conclusion
This is where I tell you to storm out and buy the phone, but I won't. Instead I'll advice you to test it in a store first - Mainly because of it's size and weight, it scared me at first but it's just a matter of growing accustomed to it.
Do I like it? Yeah I love it! And right now I know that this is my final phone before changing to a 3g phone next summer - who knows which one that might be? A 6280? N80? or at that time maybe even the 6280i? (If Nokia continues to do this i-mproved thingy) - One thing is for sure, it's definetly going to be a Nokia!
This was my mini-review, hope you liked it - do post if there's any screens you want to see pictures of or functions that I forgot to mention or didn't ellaborate enough...

nice review. thanks.
regarding the sms, can't you tap down and start writing the message? in S60 it happens the same thing. First you say to who you want to send the message. But if youdon't wantthat you can always tap down and wirte the sms. And then go up again and choose someone.
However I prefer to choose first. This way you never send a message to someone you don't want by mistake...:D
It looks great, glad your happy with it:beer:

Thanks for the great review...the 6270 is a wonderful phone, I must say.
Hey, looking at the pics and comparing with the pics from Moby's 6280 (and also Ragazzo on Mobilemag.ch), does anybody else think the camera on 6280 is slightly better than 6270? Or am I on crack?
6280 is overal better then 6270,
6270 advantage is only dual-stereo speakers
But 6280 has Single-stereo speaker

well, depending on where you are located, (i'm in the states), the major benefit of the 6270 in my opinion is that it has GSM 850.
lancerev08, well, considering Nokia is making an 6280 for the US also I am sure that it will have 850 also and it will also have UMTS 1900.
great review, hope to get mine soon, or possibly v3x

02-12-2005, 21:23
seedub, true, but isn't the US version of the 6280 going to be the 6282? and the specs for that are worse from what i read.
one example: 2MP camera is going to be only 1MP.
Awsome review dude ..u had put lots of effort to it ...nice

gr8 review!! i like the pics that you have taken off the phone.
why comes the nokia 6270 not to my country :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
Now thats the kind of review I wanna see!
Thank you Morten!
I have a couple of questions if you care to answer :)
What kind of info does the phone sync? Can it sync emails you have in your MS Outlook inbox? How well does it handle HTML formatted emails?
Does the calendar in the active standby screen show "All Day Events"? Can you customize it to display 'x' number of days forward?
Can you set the alarm to go on a specific time at given days of the week?
How many radio stations can you preset?
Thanks and enjoy your new phone! :D

MorteN, thanks for your review. it was very informative.
one question: what about the battery life??
how is the normal use battery, and then how is the heavy use (say, playing music and taking pictures)?
thanks.
one question: what about the battery life??the guy has had the phone for 1 day, give hima chance to charge it !!
Excellent review. Thanx for incuding so many pics of the screen of the fone .. its said "a pic can describe what 10000 words cant..." so yeh... excellent fone. if it only was an s60, i wouldnt have bothered for n80.
Now, the charger, whats new in it? . we've been gettin this charger with everyfone since 7650/7250 times...

Congratulations for your excellent review, MorteN-
I'm sure you'll enjoy your new phone very much.
I would just like to ask you what's the "feel" of the phone? Is it made of plastic or something more refined? In Nokia's site they talk about metal and satin surfaces...
Thanks

the guy has had the phone for 1 day, give hima chance to charge it !!
i realize that, just throwing the question out there for when he gets around to it.
what about you Moby? when you were testing it, how was the batt life? (i know it was just the prototype, but should be sorta close...right?)
what about you Moby? when you were testing it, how was the batt life? (i know it was just the prototype, but should be sorta close...right?)My usage is nothing like normal, so its difficult to come up with comparisons.
I would expect people to see 3 to 4 days with normal usage.
Thanks for the GREAT review... you mentioned that the music and video player haven't changed.. does that mean there is no way to fast forward or rewind video? That's one of the drawbacks of my 6230... would hope they improved the video control.

Damnit...I broke down and ordered one on fleabay. And I swore I wouldn't get another slider! Oh well, next year I'll get a 6233.
If anybody's interested, x1387 has about a dozen units. He's a reputable Ebay seller in Washington State USA, and ships worldwide. Mine was USD 465.00

Oh, I forgot to add...supposed to include a 512 MB mini-SD in the package.
Hey, congras on ya new 6270.
I bet ur phone is "Made by Nokia" I like "Made in Finland" coz they are the orginal ones. "Made by Nokia" is Made in china/hongkong.
Made in Finland Nokias work a lot better. I've had a bad experience with the china made Nokias. I assume that the parts used in "Made by Nokia" phones are a lot cheaper. I believe "Made in Finland" Nokia 6270 is NOT available anywhere yet.
This is probably a stupid question, but will there be any voltage/outlet problems when using this phone in the US? I know I can get an adapter for the plug, but I'm not sure if there will be any other issues to worry about. I always buy whatever crappy phones they offer here in the US so I've never really thought about it before.
Thanks to anyone who has the time to help me out!

Any features of Series 60 which were not there in Series 40 ver2 but now available in ver3 ?
What about the WAP browser? Does it support HTML pages ?

MorteN-,
Thanks for your great review:beer:
Thanks for the screenshots also.
@ Average, but greatly so - Maybe I'm just a worse photographer than Moby & Ragazzo...? :)
@ Cue - I actually haven't tried to sync yet so I can't tell you yet and as far as the Active Standby Screen goes, I actually don't know, but my guess is a yes to your first question and a no to the second one... The alarm can't be set to go off at given days, only one time one day. The radio can have 20 stations preset
@ lancerev08 - I charged Wednesday afternoon/evening and it lasted untill Friday afternoon, but that was also really really extensive usage... :)
@ Jean de Deiu - It definetly doesn't feel like plastic! It feels really smooth and, yeah satin-like - It feels like the cover is made out of some sort of metal but I'm not sure about this one...
@ rohit - Maybe it's not a new charger, but I've never seen it before, coming from a 6230->6230i->3230->newer6230i and now this one with the new charger....
@ makoona - There's fast forward in the music player by pressing and holding the forward key and vice versa on the reverse key...
@ Shazad - The joke is on you, because every 6270/6280 phone for the european market is made in Germany... Made in Allemagne/Germany
@ nikhilpai - Yeah well, the Active Standby Screen is a new thing I guess but other than that I don't know, I'm really not that into series60. And I haven't got the phone set up for GPRS, MMS and Email yet because I can't chose the N6270 on Nokia's Support Settings site (http://europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,71993,00.html), funny tough because I can choose the N6280...

ok we know this is the second upper class display from nokia ( besides the N90), how does the QVGA quality compare to the best same res displays, like the Samsng D600, which has probably the best display on the market?
MorteN,
I never knew that I cracked a joke. I should've dreamt that u bought ur 6270 from europe :)
Not Necessarily, My bro had a Nokia 6600 "Made in Finland" bought from germany. Also last year I bought 6230 from middle east "Made in Hungary"
u cant guarantee that every 6270/6280 for european market will be made in the countries u mentioned. can u?
It really depends on Nokia. I seriously prefer "Made in Finland" Nokias.

Shahzad, first of all, you can buy a Nokia just about anywhere in the World and it could be either Made in Finland or Made by Nokia. Second, Nokia phones are either Made in Finland or Made by Nokia, if you bought one that says Made in Hungary its not a real Nokia.
I bet ur phone is "Made by Nokia" I like "Made in Finland" coz they are the orginal ones. "Made by Nokia" is Made in china/hongkong.

I think Seebud is saying that all Nokia's not manufactured in Finland should say Mady by Nokia. However, I don't think that's accurate either. I bought my 6620 here in the US, and it says Made in Brazil. Nokia has factories all over the world, and the labelling is probably not 100% consistent, plus may also be affected by regulations on such labelling in the market where the product is retailed. E.g. in the EU, I think they could say "Made in the EU" regardless of which country it is manufactured in. More important is that Nokia manufactures most of its phones itself to ensure consistent quality , and Mr. Ollila in his address in NY this week re-emphasized this point.

My current 6230i is made in Hungary. So was my previous 6230.
Actually abt 90 % of all 6230/6230i models which are sold here in Finland are made in Hungary. And for sure they are "real" Nokias :D
just to let you uk guys know, this phone out here on monday, www.livetelecom.com, reasonable price considering vast features ?299.
also same price @ www.mobilefun.co.uk
@ jannyman - yeah I've tried but the only company in Denmark with 6280 settings is "3" and I have another provider and it won't work.. - No video fast forwarding - My phone is labeled "Made in Allemagne/Germany" and I seem to recall something I've read somewhere that Germany was the sole production place for the 6270/6280 phones can't remember where though.
@ shazad - see the last answer above...
For MMS/WAP settings just use the 6230i version.

Tomasito, ever heard nokia.com, have you?? Might be worth checking the measurements there yourself.. ;)
I recived mine today, but after 12 hours charching it doesn't work. I'm really disapointed :weep:
@ Moby - Thanks a million, I'd thought about using those settings but I wasn't sure wether or not it was going to work on the new series40 platform with the bigger screen and all...
@ tomasito37 - Check for yourself @ gsmarena.com (http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone2=566&idPhone1=1198)
@ robot - That's just bad luck!
*EDIT* - Just ordered a 1 GB mini-sd memorycard, expecting it to arrive on Tuesday, then my 6270 truly will have enough storage for pictures and a whole bunch of music! :)
I wish they've used 352 x 416 pixels screen on 6280 and 70, makes then even gorgeous like N90.

how about the save pic m/sec
-can you post screenshot on dif. "fontsize" in writing SMS...
-how about the system speed as compares to 6230i?
-comparison between 6270 and 6230i's loudspeaker....
I wish they've used 352 x 416 pixels screen on 6280 and 70, makes then even gorgeous like N90.But would everyone be prepared to pay another $100 for a phone with that screen, and would you accept the phone to run slower?
Why would 6280/70 runs slower if they changed the screen ? it doesnt make any sense. it's not a smartphone
Hope you can answer this questions:
-those it have a edit program for video and pictures?
-How is the headsett?
Why would 6280/70 runs slower if they changed the screen ? it doesnt make any sense. it's not a smartphonebecause it has to display more pixels than the QVGA screen does.
Ronka, if that doesn't make sense, how come is 6230i slower than 6230? it's because of the display...
@ sechui26 - It takes about a second or 3 to save a picture depending on the motive and sorroundings...
@ knights - Just as fast system speed if not faster and with a way better speaker - I'll post pictures of the two other font sizes tomorrow afternoon
@ alex91 - You can edit pictures in terms of inserting text, frames, clipart, another picture or crop the picture... No video editing... - The headset is great, much nicer in design and comfort than my previous HS-3 headset...

Why would 6280/70 runs slower if they changed the screen ? it doesnt make any sense.6230i runs slower than 6230 just because of the higher resolution. The difference aint so noticeable though so yeah i would have paid extra 100 dollars for better resolution for 6270/6280.
I read somewhere N80 352x416 screen puts on shame 6270/6280 qvga screens
Btw im sure Nokia will announce later this year s40 device with 352x416 screen.Maybe they put even wifi and HTML browser on it who knows..
MorteN-, Don't worry about the battery yet. It takes a few charge/recharge cycles before you get full usage from the battery.
-Can you do other things while you have the mp3player on?
EDIT: I have a Logitech Extrem Gaming Headsett with jack plug, can i juse that on 6270?
352x416 is standard res for Series60, I doubt S40 will implement this. Besides, QVGA is already great!
Not to mention 6230i has 1.3mpx cam, saving pics sure will be slow of course. especially when nokia uses the same compononents just like iside the regular 6230.
jannyman

-Can you do other things while you have the mp3player on?
Yeah of course you can ie. write txt messages, surf web/wap or play games while listening music.
Btw MorteN- hows the voice recording, still upto 1 hour like on 6230i?
@ alex91 - No you can't use that headset right away, you have to buy an adapter, I don't know if the adapter included in the music kit to the 6230i will work on this one, but a similar device is definetly needed...
@ jannyman - Storing on the phone, you can store as much as there's memory for; had 4,4 mb available = 47 minutes and 42 seconds... When storing on the memorycard maximum is 60 minutes...

Karim, 352x416 standard resolution for S60? When? From 2006 and beyond?
Not the latest ones for sure...
From the 8 phones already programmed to be released in the stores in 2006 only 3 have this resolution... The other are 176x208 and QVGA's... Technically (and since N Series appear):
176x208 - 3
QVGA - 3
352x416 - 4
Can you take pictures in full screen modus?

04-12-2005, 19:38

Just be happy, Nokia is so nicethis time that all their non-smartphones will be using screen will be QVGA from this time.
128 x 128 screens was so awful by nokia.. their non-smartphones were so great and powerful. like 6230 for example.. but the screeeeen!! ahhh!
But be glad now :)
alexandr3, you need to understand what I'm saying.
Standard is in: Series60 can use this resolution. It's supported by it.
And yes, in 2006, all topend S60 will have this res...
can you please tell me what the video recording quality is? moby said the 6280 can do 640x480, i was wondering if teh 6270 can also do his. thanks in advance, hope u enhoy ur new phone.

If you have any questions you're more than free to ask!
Superphone
Probably you are not reading properly what I have asked for
I am asking for the some one who is intelligent enough , to throw light on vedio resolutions, by opening a new thread
Now the question is why I have asked here? To know this read the post no 128 & 134 Of alexandr3 & karim
They both were wring on the same topic, so I just requested both of them to make it a broader by opening a new thread.
vimal, how about opening the thread yourself in the General forum & wait for "inteligent" answers from everybody & anybody that knows about that ;)

Hi MorteN-!What's the quality of the new headset?I read it's better then HDS-3 but is it good to hear MP3?
what buttons are on the headset?is there volume control and answer button?
when the radio is on can you switch only between preset stations or you can search for available frequencies (using the headset buttons)?
sorry for my english!
I dont know if this has been ask before me but I take the risk :P
Can you tell me wich "fast-buttons" there are on the side of 6270?
is there a "fast-button" to mp3 for example?
sorry for my bad english *blush*
@ brorzan - The cover feels like it's made out of some sort of metal, probably aluminium or something like that...
@ valsim - It's very good, both the build quality of the headset and audiovise... It's not like the superhigh quality sound but very high in mobile headset standards - there are an answer button and a PTT-button on the side, no volumebutton... Regarding the radio, only switching between preset stations...
@ alex91 - Right side: Camera button + Volume buttons / Left Side: PTT button + IrDa and memorycard slot
My first post here.

Hi Morten
Did u configure GPRS on your 6270? Can u surf any HTML site ? Or only WAP sites? Nokia site says it has a xHTML browser...but not very sure what xHTML can do.
Does it support Opera Mini?
My decision of whether to buy 6270 or not depends on its browser capabilities...so please let me know.
One more question...I have never used a slider before...so I might sound very silly....Can u answer a call & talk without sliding the phone down?

I got my 6270 on Friday. Have to say though the the weight, size, slider, new series 40 interface is making me unsure whether or not to keep it.
Anyway to answer your questions - yes you can browse HTML sites but obviously it's very slow over GPRS. Not sure about Opera as I haven't yet tried.
Regarding calls - yes you can answer the calls without sliding - you just press the answer button. Similarly you can dial too either by pressing the dial button and getting up the list of last callers, or by flicking through the contacts list with the scroll keys then dialing.

Do you guys know, if the e-mail application on this device is not a java program. since 6230i e-mail app is really bad.
I can understand if you don't like the weight and size, but what about the slider and the new series 40. Please explain why you don't like them.
Hi Hogan. I wouldn't say that I don't like the slider or new interface, but it's just different and I'm not convinced for a good reason.
The slider isn't really an issue. It just takes a bit of getting used to when you go to type text messages. Also if you think of the side of it, the keys are massive compared to most candybar style phones.
The new series 40 interface. Again, I wouldn't say that I don't like it, but it just takes a bit of getting used to. I've used previous series 40 phones and like most of us will probably agree - they're very simple. Then there's series 60 for more advanced phones \ applications. The new series 40 seems to be based on series 60 (clock, signal bar, operator logo all at the very top of the standby screen for example). I'm sure I'll grow to like it but as a long standing user of Nokia phones it's just going to take some time. Please don't let this put you off buying a phone though - it's just me initial impression of it. :)
Hi Hogan. I wouldn't say that I don't like the slider or new interface, but it's just different and I'm not convinced for a good reason.Ok, as I see the differences with the new interface, it's all for a good reason. :) And the slider design is a great way of combining a big screen and still keep easy accessible buttons. I hope you can slide it open and close it with just one hand, without to much training. ;)

In his review he is talking about the colour. The video recording resolution is qcif, just lige ie. N6230i...
i find the phone biuld quality is low 6/10 buttons are cheap after mark chrome lookin and the power button is wobbly n cheap , the slider is poor and brushes the keypad just slightly, the display is awsome...the sound and RF is great, but my D600 still walks all over the 6270 in everyway
http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/9404/dscf00049is.th.jpg (http://img236.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscf00049is.jpg)
@ psychotic - Jeg vil nok betegne den som m?rk med brunt sk?r... Man kan godt se at den er brun, men det er langt fra en 'lortebrun' farve... :) og PluMbE har besvaret dit andet sp?rgsm?l...
@ H0CKEY - I can't relate to what you're saying at all - Great build quality, no wobbly power button, in fact I can't "wobble" it at all... Great slider with a spring that just 'pop' the keypad in and out - and I don't think it was ever the meaning to make chrome looking buttons, but silver as most Nokia models have...
Just read the review fully as i'm starting to get really excited about the phone :jump:
I was listening to music via the speakers (which by the way isn't as bad as I first stated) at full volume and then I put the earphones in my ears and plugged the headset in (in that order) and the shock I got was brutal! It sounded way way louder than the music ever did on my 6230i, the volume scale goes from 1-10 and there's no need to hear music in the earphones higher than 5-7...
WAAAAY!
Data storage (The mini-SD card 'pops up' as a removeable drive in your pc)
That is extreamly handy. I have had to buy software separately for other devices in order to do that.
Your review told me a few things I didn't know so am happy. I am going to get the silver or chrome model.
Still waiting for it to come out in the uk :weep: Surely by the weekend, I wish nokia would set a release date, i'm having problems sleeping at night :insane: .

hello
I?m new.I?m FROM SPAIN,SO MY ENGLISh is regular....
I read in some spain forums, that this phone has one bug...Concretly,in the select of sounds and types of ring,if you select a normal ring, the telephnone always ring in mode ascendent.Starts the sound lowly, and increase by the time...
NO rings in same volume always. It?s true this?Because is a big bug if thats matters.

well to be honest i allways use the highest level in ringing tone and it seems to be ascending.but when you choose the level 4 or lower its not ascending so theres your answer!
This with 6230i but im quite sure it goes with 6270/6280 as well
Btw thanks mate ;) Ive allways thought its ascending in all levels he he .. :D

in Hungary its not a real Nokia.

Is it also true for the 6270/6280 ?

One more Question.
Does the 6270 provide an option to save messages in the memory card instead of the phone memory?
This is important because I want to know whether files transferred over bluetooth can be directly saved on the memory card.

i heard you cant save messages on the 6280(which should be the same for the 6270). is nokia pulling off a sony ericsson here? ...anyways, if it's true, i hope that you can save alot of messages on the internal memory to make up for it.

There is no dedicated field, but you can create a note to your contact so you can always create a note with the birthday - but I don't think it'll 'pop up' at the given day if that's what you're thinking about...

Well actually thats exactly what I was thinking about. :weep:
But I thought even the Nokia 6230i had this option....so why not in the 6270

hey MorteN-
when you take pics, do you just leave the settings on: image quality = high and 1600x1200 ?? is that the best settings? (i don't know if a smaller resolution or different combination of settings yields a better overall picture.)
thanks.
Well I have now given up trying to get this phone, I thought this was a good deal (http://www.phones2udirect.co.uk/Products/type/phones/ProductID/6167/NetworkID/7), but I couldn't get an answer from phones2u and then today all of a sudden it was out of stock. :weep: Something odd about that site.
I guess Nokia couldn't get it out in the UK before christmas.
Next time nokia don't get are hopes up by advertising a phone thats not even going to be out by christmas
I don't expect to see the phone on contract deals in the uk until late january. I would be happy if I could get it on the 5th of jan though (my birthday :super: ) Lets hope 2gb mini sd cards become more common and cheaper as soon as poss.
Why release a boss phone in january? Thats a silly release date, why not december you morons.
Can you show any other phone where you can move the operator logo? That will oribably answer your question.
Samsung T100, E700 that I know of, and probably other unbranded samsungs:p
That's a birthday note in the calender - it's not 'linked' to any specific contact, which in fact was what he was asking for...I think you can achieve some sort of linking if you synchronize your mobile with MS Outlook or similar application. Because when you write the birthday for your contacts in MS Outlook it writes a reminder in the calander. So by synchronizing your mobile calander with your pc calander you will have the birthdays in the mobile.
Hi guys, I've got one question for everybody has seen 6270 in stores or knows something about Nokia distribution: I've seen in Nokia Europe website that the colors available for this phone in europe are light blue and brownish dark, but looking at Nokia.it (http://nokia.it/nokia/0,0,76322,00.html) the colors seem to be 4! Moreover I can't understand (because of light reflection in the animation) what the other colors are: in addition to light blue and brown there is surely the silver but the other is a darker blue or a lighter grey (maybe white)?. Quite an academic question, I know, but it's driving me crazy since I'm gonna buy this phone when it makes itself alive...

The phone was released in the UK in early December. Some sites such as livetelecom and simplymobilephones had them in stock on the 5th and I got mine on 7th Dec. It's not Nokia's fault that the networks decide to bastardise the phones by installing their own software, change shortcuts, disable functionality, etc. This is the real reason for the delay in my opinion.

RickyG, how is it that is was out in December and i have seen no place with it?
Hi - I'm guessing it's because of the time it takes for networks to 'personalise' the phone.
As for sim-free - I don't know why some places have them in and others don't. I got mine from simplymobilephones.com who have now sold out. However if you're still looking - http://www.livetelecom.com/ . Their site claims they have them in stock at the moment.
I guess another possibility could be that the networks aren't going to stock them. Lets face it - if you have the choice of a 2G phone to stock or an almost identical 3G version of it, which one are you going to go for? Especially after having paid billions of ???s for the 3G licenses.
Maybe that's why they're not available on UK networks, cos the networks are going to wait for the 6280.
Just a thought.

I suspect some of what your saying is true. But I want a non 3G phone that has the latest in camera technology, good screen for movie and game playing and is also all about the music. The Sony K750/w800i work out to be too dear becuase there 2gig memory sticks cost a lot more than mini sd's. Generally the (silver) Nokia 6270 sounded more powerful than the w800i, is it? Or should I get the W800i? I'm not bothered about the size difference.
Another thing that attracted me too it is it will have to be cheap as the 6280 will be deerer due to its added 3G'ness
Hello techie people... Im a newbie and this would actually be my first post. I just wanna say first of all that this website has been very helpful, especially Morten's review on the 6270, in helping me decide to finally buy this fone. And as a proud new owner, i also want to share with you guys some of the phone's quirks. The User Interface is absolutely great... No bad feedback from me, but my main issue against it is its low internal memory (9 mb) I mean, the reduced sized memory card that came along with the package is great (i got 512mb) but the thing is, once you've saved a couple of files on the phone itself that would obviously utilize some space... so my problem is when someone sends me a file, particularly an mp3, sometimes what happens is that the phone wont accept it since there's not enough memory. Of course, some of you may say "that's the reason why you have the memory card, dumb***!" but i was just wondering if there is an option in the 6270 for RECEIVED FILES to automatically be saved in the memory card. is there?I hope there is because it's quite irritating to regularly check my phone's memory to see if there's enough memory for incoming files.
Another question, i hope you guys could answer... I've only had my 6270 for a week and ive noticed that the lifespan of the battery runs for a maximum of 2 days, 1 day if you use the music player and camera, i guess my question is, IS THAT NORMAL? Because from some of the posts ive seen in this thread as well as the one from the nokia website, average span is 3-4 days... Im beginning to worry if i should bring it back to the store to have the battery replaced.

dazed23,
first Q : no you can't set it for saving directly to memory card.
2nd Q : don't worry , 3-4 days for minimal average usage ... !
Let the battery settle in for a little while longer. If you've only had it a week then you have only charged it three times.
If you want the best from it then disable the screen saver, set the 'power save' option to on and the 'sleep mode' to on.
Hey thanks for the quick reply!!! Thanks for the tip, saliquincer and moby! Too bad it cant save directly to the memory card though :weep:
Just curious, who among you has got the silver color 6270? I got the dark brown version, but i was really hoping for the silver, its nicer to look at.. we dont have it yet here in the Philippines.
I'm probably going to get this phone however i hav never had a slider phone before and i was wondering how this one works and whether it is stable, also how easy the buttons are to press i had a 6260 (i broke it...) and i loved the big buttons and the size of the screen are the two comparible
so yea i was wondering about the slider really...
I've been planning to get that phone since it was first announced! Thanx so much for an awesome review, MorteN- It helped me to definitely decide to buy it.
Surprisingly, it's not so expensive, as I thought it would be. I'll wait a little more until it becomes a little cheaper and I'm gonna get it.

If ur 6270 phone memory is full while u receiving file, the file will automatically saved in the memory card.
calvin, are you sure? i have 6230, and I'm pretty annoyed by the fact I have to always have enough free memory on the phone itself to receive a decent mp3 song!
Finally I got my 6270 =)
I love the display, but the buildquality of the buttons isn't that good as someone said.
I have a question. Which videoformats does the phone support? Is it just the .3gp format?

points, i mean 6270, not 6230. 6230 isn't a Series 40 3rd Edition phone.
Hi Morten, and the others who have got your phones. I was wondering about the audio player, does it automatically continue playing after an incoming call has interrupted the playback? Thanks for an answer and for the great review!

I posted this question before on the 6270/6280 thread, but somehow I expect a higher chance to get an answer here, and I did not see this thread before.
For my 6270, I am wondering whether it is possible to have the caller id picture more full screen-like instead of the very small picture visible at the right hand side of the screen. I did not find any setting in the manual nor in the phone itself.
Any ideas? Thanks.

there are some third party softwares that can make the pics full screen, but no function on the phone itself. =(
Yeah calvin, i hope I'll do.
Anyways, I posted this already in the 6270/80 thread, but here is it again: Do you have to hold the phone still for like 5 sec after you take a pic, so that the pic isn't blurred? This is the case with 6230 and it's so annoying.
I've just recieved my long awaited package, with the brand new Nokia 6270!
All questions will be answered tomorrow when i've gotten the chance to play with it some more...

No, you have not (at least, that is my experience). The picture will be taken with a delay of just a fraction of a second, moving while saving the picture doesn't matter.

Hi everyone!
I've heard that in the New 6270 we are allowed only to send one file of each time by bluetooth for other device (PC or other phone) as we are limited in "old S40", any user of 6270's confirm this?
And I heard about too that the key sound (when pressing the keys to choose any menu or even when we write any sms) is not as usual in all other Nokia's phone, because in some times the sound doensn't match the movement of the key or even when we write any sms (sometimes there is no sound between some fast-pressings, what is annoying!). Any user of 6270 confirm this?
Is this a kind of "bug" or just the "new S40" of Nokia?
And in 6280 is the same thing?
Best Regards from portugal ;)
Hi
Do you know how to make that files sent from computer gets into the memory card instead of the telephone?s memory?
Janne
install the nokia pc suite, i got the latest version from europe.nokia.com. it will install the 'nokia phone browser' into your windows explorer where you can access your phone like a drive. there you can open your sd card folder which is named 'no name' by default if your using the sd that came with the phone and copy directly to there.
is anyone having screen issues with their 6270?
when i slide the phone open with the active standby screen on, the screen is fine and i can use the menus, search for contacts, create sms, etc
now if in the closed position and i create a sms or search for contact, then slide the phone open, randomly i get the following things happen to me:
1. screen goes black, i cant see anything, even closing the slide only helps 50% of the time, i usually need to power cycle down
2. screen doesnt redraw properly and some portions are slanted, other portions remain looking 'right' - i can still see some activity if i'm typing
3. screen goes black, and whereever there is activity, it will get redrawn with the new content, but only that portion...
it seems like its more of a software bug than hardware right now. initially i assumed it was the contacts not touching the keypad and screen correctly, but if thats the case, even opening during ass should cause the same behaviour, but never has, but the moment i do sms it messes up.
this isnt happening all the time, only randomly, but its about once a day or so
any help, suggestions would be appreciated...

I did not notice this freezing, but sometimes when I try to open the deliverystatus menu after sending some sms messages, it just does't do anything when I press select. I can navigate through the menu without any problem, but it takes some time to open the menu.
Btw what firmware version are you using? I am using v03.53, date 15-11-05

I got a question to the guys who own the nokia 6270 for a while.. I played with the phone in a shop and the sliding mechanism wasn?t very good and had a lot of space when you slided it up or down or when you just had it opened.. Can you confirm that, or was it just that one in the shop? That?s very important for me, because i?m thinking of buying the phone..
Thanks!
kazoo, where did you get it from and for how much? for how much is it available in england?
Now I have some questions:
1. I have a DKU-2 Nokia cable, is it going to work on 6270 too?
2. I am using pc suite 6.4.8 and it works perfectly with my 6230. I want to transfer all my contacts and calendar notes to the computer. The question is, will I be able to transfer them on the 6270 with the same version, or will I have to get a new PC suite? Is it going to work at all? For example, I tried to do so with 6610 on 6230 (that was a long time ago :) ) and it didn't work. It's very important for me to know is this going to work.
3. morten, and the others who have the phone, how did you form the battery? (how many times and how many hours?)
Thanx all
i got it from alfa for rs 18000, in england about rs22000, where can i update firmware from when available, yes i am using 15th november firmware. wot if i dont have guarantee. wot is guarantee, pls help
You dont have gurantee/waranty anyways.
coz its bought in x country, and you are usin it in y country...
so go to the nokia care (in england), tell them you want to update software..
in india they charge like rs 100 to update if the fone isnt in waranty.
so chek hows it done there.
bought my w800i from alfa...
rs100...probably gonna cost like ?5 at least in england isnt it kazooo?

Enough with the Waiting.. Contact your nearest Nokia Service Center now! or cell phone repair shops near you..
There's a newly released firmware for the 6270 which most likely fixes some of the bugs. It's V5.69.

Hi MorteN
You really beat Nokia's Helpline.:D
Well, they may do well, while one only uses default configurations. But in the end they do build great machines, and then there are people like you, that go to the edge!
Thankx
al
...for my wife as her birthday present. I got a brown one from a shop here in Brunei for 630 Singapore Dollars with 23mb in-built memory and 512 MiniSD card.
Comes with USB cable, 3.5mm Pin Converter if you want to use better headphones, decent quality headphone, Charger and a CD Rom containing PC Suite Software and some graphics software from Adobe and Ulead etc.
Sound quality is excellent in both the headphone and in the 2 stereo speakers. The sample tracks were just great with 3D widening effect. Sony Ericsson's K750i can not even stand here in terms of speaker quality.
Camera although was not great in night, indoor and close up but outdoor shots are just good. Anyway, as I have a 12X Canon digital shooter, so nothing to worry about.
Overall, surely an excellent package than my current SE K750i in terms of :
- Price
- Mini SD memory card (not proprietory like MStick!)
- Better 2MP camera with flash
- Excellent music capabilities with nice ear phones
- 262k screen bright and sharp
- Connectivity options (BT,EDGE etc)
- Stylis slider mechanism...hate that candy bar of SE but did not have any options then...
Other good stuffs I liked ::jump:
- PC Suite is a good collection of tools to do lots of things like copying music, photos, videos in between.
- Alarm with Snooze, alarm alert can be a mp3, polyphonic or radio itself. Thats nice.
- Series 40 applications are plenty to get from Web. Well supported platform and at the same time not so buggy/slow like certain versions of Symbion OS or MS.
- 512MB MiniSD can act as a USB drive! One more gadget less to carry!
- Can sync with outlook, so throw your PDA as well.
- Can record so throw your mini recorder and can attend your evening (MBA?) classes!
- FM reception was very good. Auto Scan and manual entry of frequency as well. yeah, now gift your mini FM radio too to niece or nephew:lol:
After all its NOKIA...a company that makes serious phones not just music players
Surely will recommend to anyone! 4.5 out 5. :D

sgmuser, thanx for your opinion! :D You couldn't expect nothing less from Nokia, right?
sgmuser, thank you for sharing your experience. When you've tried it a few days, can you post your opinion about the battery life? Some people say it's unbearably short, about 1.5 days using it very little. I want to buy this phone but this feature bothers me a lot! :(
Can someone help me with finding version of firmware in my 6270 phone.
Everything seems to be ok except
1. slider mechanism kind of feeling a bit of not so strong...may be because this is my first slider. :insane:
2. now i do not see the 3D Widening option at all. I used to have it. But somehow I miss. :(
Overall a great phone.

To sgmuser, are you sure that there is a supplied 3.5 adapter/pin converter in the sales package? Because Nokia-asia's 6270 sales package includes an adapter but its for the charger, so you'll have the option to use your old nokia charger. The supplied charger has a small connector, different from the old ones. Just look at the manual ok.

Just talked to a Nokia contact I have. He mentioned that miniSD cards from no-name manufacturers are of variable quality. Stick with the major brands, and always format them in the phone before use. If you don't do this, you can get random errors or problems recognizing the cards.
