Has any1 here got the PSP?
what do you think of it?
i want to get one of amazon with the value pack, the headphones and the memory card!!
and thoughts on it!

Ive had a play on a couple and they are pretty fantastic graphics and gameplay, but I was very wary of the limited battery life. Still undecided myself.
oh yea, its something like 4-6 hours! The graphics look great!

it takes the same memory card as my S700i, and i just bought a new 128mb! so i can look my pictures and videos on it!!! and use the old 32mb and the one supplied with it!!!
How much are you paying for it?? (if ya dont mind me asking) and where did you get it from?
I think the psp is very good value for ur money.
Ist not like a psp or smth,you can do soo much more.

i think that games n stuff like that will cost you more,
if you have access to free media,go for it.

In some places they are avaiable (i never know how to spell that) like in stalls in Birkenhead and liverpool market! when i went to alcudia the other week, some man had one on the plane!!
i wanted to buy one next week, but i havent any money now!! Gutted!
Psp is definitely worth it!! I've had mine since Dec (got it for £150 back then) and it really is the dogz bollocks!! I use it mainly for watching movies, internet browsing, games (obviously :D ) and I used to use xlink (online multiplayer gaming with the koreans - you won't beat them btw!!). Though to be honest I havn't really used since March but I'm waiting for GTA, GT4 Mobile and Virtua Tennis to come out before I get back on it.....oh and FF7 Advent Children (that movie looks wicked!!)
Definately worth the money! im browsing w/my psp right now@ the mall via wifi. =)

nice little toy, i had to chance to rent a psp on the games convention here in germany -
i enjoyed the graphics, i used it over 7 hours not hardcore, but it was runing and from time to time ive played a bit - you can also buy a second battery - this isn't the prob
a nother PROb is, you can convert YOUR own dvds TO memory stick, but it will just have MAX the half resolution of the display ! full res you will just get with an "UMD" (nice way to describe an old media a new way its just a little dvd - you know )
These UMD with films you can buy expensive from sony - but you won't get ALL films - because sony have an own "label" so they will release just their own films.
another point is - how old are you? i think you a over 18 ... so
1. ) do you have the time for sitting around and playing ?
2.) it looks very quaint if an adult plays with something like a gameboy ...
communicate with other people dont goggle the whole day in TFTs .. my advice to you ;)
on the trip train flight and stuff - if you have the money, its a nice thing for wasting time ...

I pre-ordered from woolworths for £20 and on collection will recieve a 100 pounds worth of vouchers to spend in store, i also pre-ordered a copy of Need For Speed Underground Rivals and a copy of Sin City on UMD. A 512mb memory stick PRO duo is also waiting for the psp when it comes home.

i got the japanese version of the PSP that plays all japanese, american and european games and movies. it has excellent graphics and with a good memory stick is the best thing to have. people can insert their mem-sticks and see their pictures listen to music and watch videos. the only bad thing is its battery but i am sure that sony will make a new one(battery). also u can play wireless with other people though i am still waiting for the next person to buy it here in Cyprus. all the games r excellent. of course u have to take a good care of it cause is fragile. also the material that the front is made of gets dirty very easily when u touch it.
the disks u put inside it r called umd. they r like small cds with protecting plastic that unfortunately makes copying them harder. here in Cyprus the bad thing is that in europe psp hasnt arrive yet and we have to pay the hell to the few shops that bring them from america or japan
note that the systems language isnt japanese. also to the people that will buy it: u can download games so dont update ur system like i did cause then u will not be able to play the games

I've purchased my second Japanese PSP in June in Dubai, you could play all game systems but you can't play American or European movies on it as far as I know.... My PSP is also 1.5 and I will never update it unless they have found a way to play free games on the 2.0 firmware.... So for example I am able to store over 8 games on my PSP at one time with a 1Gb pro duo but only if you have a UMD disc to launch it... I also have software to rip UMD's which can be useful if you want to rent PSP games... I use my PSP for music and videos also especially when I travel from place to place... So for the people who think PSP are for teenagers are mistaken, I won't be surprised if I end up using it for Professional reasons... For GTA fans and Winning Eleven fans, these games will be coming out in September... The PSP has brought my mobile phone interest down this summer but I'm optimistic about Sakura... :)

This is one negative, as european psp's will be pre loaded with the 2.0 firmware meaning no copied games. One advantage is internet browsing out of the box, but i dont require this.
I've heard that European PSP's are made in Taiwan. I'm waiting to see if they actually are before I commit.
If they are I can get hold of a PSP value pack (Japan) + Ridge Racer + Protective Case + 5 UMD cases + 1800mAh external battery for £200 including delivery.
Yeah, the PSP was definitely worth getting and especially at a time when more games become available when it is released in Europe. Had my Japansese PSP imported for quite a while now and I didnt really see the battery as a problem. But have been a tad busy since to play it - only seen the August background twice so far. :lol:
I got mine for £216 delivered from a UK online store. With a year's warranty and the promise of being UK compatible... have yet to test that!
The movies on memory stick didnt really appeal to me tbh. Resolution wasnt that high and you need big MS DUOs, apparently higher resolution is supported in firmware 2.00. I would rather prefer to buy a complete movie on UMD - save time from conversion etc.
If you have a SE phone, you can view the photos instantly when you swap the MS Duos around. MP3s though dont work that way. You have to put them in a special directory for them to be recognised. Well - it didnt work with my S700i or V800 anyway... cant remember if I tried it with the K750i....
Material is similar to my T610, so fingerprints are present lol... but the US version and Euro version comes with a cloth!!!
Well... there you go. Little bit of insider info for those who waited till 1st September :D :lol:

The thing which I hate about the PSP is that it uses UMD. So annoying! They should have stuck to normal DVD and PS1/2 sized discs.
dominicdiep, good one. The whole idea behind it is that it's Portable. If you want DVD sized discs the obvious thing to do is go buy a PS2.

Doubt PSP will drop anytime soon, i think at £180 the machine your getting is at a killer price.

It's worth $400 here with that you can almost buy 2 Ps2's.
I got 1 at the Japanese launch. It's a very nice piece of hardware. It's becoming pretty expensive with all the accessories I've been buying for it : screen protector, 512MB memstick, case for psp, case for games, ... But I do like it a lot. Now I'm waiting for the new games like GTA , Medievil, Pursuit Force, ... Some RPG's wouldn't hurt either.
It's down to 285 USD here (= 142.5 GBP)
PSP = waste of money. You have to put so much time and money into it to make it worthwhile that is just isnt worth it. Im trying to sell mine now. Thats imo of course.
Plus its VERY uncomfortable to play on for extended periods of time, especially for your left hand cause the control pad/joystick is too close to the edge of the device. That means you have to keep your thumb bent very tightly (if you have bigger hands like me) and it really starts to hurt

Nope you can download it, that option is included in the Iso loader to run the PSP games on the memory stick....
Just got the Australian version of Toca Racer 2, Medievil is on the way... We won't miss a single game, we want them all.... :)

I have heard from several sites that Euro psp's will come with 1.52 installed and 2.0 on the demo UMD so it is your choice whether to install the latest firmware.
We will have to see in just over 4 days time. :)
1.52 is worse than 2.0 since you can't have piracy on it anyways, 2.0 actually gives you more cool programs and updates... These firmwares are both useless at the moment for piracy interests..

You're right Xor, I don't think it's a good idea to be waving with your psp in the vicinity of the gare du nord or places like that. You could be waving goodbye the psp in no time.

I got PSP alreay a couple of months. It's prety cool, but i don't play often on it cause I'm not a gamer :)
I was amazed about it graphics, and espessially about the analog, because at first i thought it was a speaker or something.

Alright I have Virtua tennis and the European version of Toca Race Driver 2.... I don't think there are enough PSP's for sale since Sony asked other re-enforcements for production lines, in my opinion other PSP's will be much cheaper quality than the ones that got released already....

Guys i think u missed my point, most of the games for the DS use the touch screen in an exciting new way which makes the games more enjoyable wheres the PSP is just hitting buttons! And GEES graphics are not the most important thing, the game play is wat counts, buuut u dnt have to believe me cos when it comes down to sales DS owns!
Just hitting buttons didnt seem to hold back, all other consoles, including computers!
The touchscreen seems a little over the top, but i am Sony biased, and i havent played a DS before!?

im not surprised the DS has good sales figures as the PSP is twice the price (although you do see where that extra cash has gone ;) ) then theres nintendo massive backing in japan and the US and the fact nintendo hasnt had a decent challenge since the gamegear all add upto nintendo being the unbelievable dominant force in the handheld market.
unfortunately the touch screen doesnt suit all the games (anyone tried ridge racer with the touch screen WHAT A STINKER) the likes of lemmings etc would be excellent on the DS but nintendo seem to be pushing a lot of stuff via touch screen that simply doesnt work.and why oh why didnt they include an analogue ?
what made me laugh was when the PSP was leaking info on what it couold do nintendo came out with thie clame that the DS wasnt the succesor to the gameboy lol,dont make me laugh they just didnt think they could be knocked off the top spot and released an average console that didnt push the boundarys like it could have and they seen what the PSP could do and then shit themsleves IMHO.

@ sweatybottom: even though ur point with the touch screen is right i'll have 2 add, like silverback did, that the DS isnt using at all its touch-screen ability. i've played ridge racers on DS and not even the cars can compare to the PSP. the only one who i know that has bought the DS, even though his bigger brother has bought the PSP is 6 years old. his parents r fucking loaded, so there is no chance that he just couldnt affort it
DS is sooo not worth it, but PSP is! It's much nicer!

Especially when you can play free games on the PSP, DS has become more expensive in the long term for the software literates....
If they find fixes for future PSP software, this could hurt DS sales also just as PSP games sales....

The Value pack includes a black pouch for the PSP.... When it comes to Multiplayer games, only the large games need more than one UMD or game file, the smaller PSP games can be linked from one psp to another with just one existing game.... I've tested quite a few online and multiplayer games, Twisted Metal and Atv are one of the best so far...

I bought the DS when it launched, got Warioware Touched for it, was quite addictive, but at the time no games were that interesting to me, so I sold the DS :D. I then bought the PSP a few months back, only had Ridge Racer for it, was good while it lasted, used it for MP3 playback and video playback more than anything though, it had about 6 dead pixels, but hardly noticable when playing a game or watching a video :D. I then sold it so I could get a k750i. Now I have got myself another DS, got Mario 64 DS now, pretty much the same as Mario 64, but still addictive to play. I am now waiting for the Japanese launch of the white PSP :D cause I think that it is much cooler looking than the black one :). Smudges on the black one is very noticeable :D.
So to answer the question, if you got the cash, get the PSP, else, wait till the price is slashed. Or, if you just want to use it to play MP3's, videos and emulators, then waiting for a GPX2 isn't a bad idea :D

I wouldn't jump the boat that quickly, midnight club 3 has one of the longest loading times in history, even for short races... However when the game is under way, there is no better game if you're patient enough to wait whilst the game loads.... You're right about need for speed though, its nothing special....

Wipeout Pure and Midnight Club 3 have the best graphics at the time being.... Lets hope GTA and winning eleven don't disappoint.... Toca race driver 2 has decent graphics as well....

savvas i like a it a lot, very differant to NFS 2 on the consoles but i like anything to do with cars, definately has some longetivity in it and from what i have played so far i like very much. I was put off by Midnight Club as i hate DUB edition on xbox, i really hated it.
Will probably go into town tommorrow and buy another game, dont know which yet though :D

What I didn't like about F1 grand prix is how the car turns, its not realistic at all, obviously more grip than it should have.... They still have more work to do for PSP F1 games...

2 player with which game? I've tested 2 player, 3 player with other gamers.... I've played online with Twisted Metal with hundreds of gamers worldwide all summer.... Virtua tennis crashes when you play two players so perhaps someone else can test it...

PSP's sold in the US aren't necessarily made in the US. Most electrical goods are mass produced in a factory in batches, with different batches later being shipped off to different locations.

i havent played a GT for a while now, cant remember if i've played the ps2 one, but id say its getting a lil outdated anyways. Just racing isnt enough, need to be able to glide, nitro, crash each other. burnout's making my mouth water :) lol. It better be as good as burnout3.

You can upgrade cars in GT4 to use Nitrous Oxide.. but I agree - Burnout Takedown is a great game.
These are my 2 most wanted games...pro evo and GTA....they shold be out in october-november I think...I have to wait with need for speed underground...that's pretty good...
By the way, I had the occasion to play with Virtua Tennis...pretty fun games...I might get it too...

Well I got 2 DP in mine and a friend who bought it at the same time 1/9 in the same store also has two in his. Acording to this survey http://palgn.com.au/article.php?id=3040 from PALGN 73% of the ones who took the survey has one or more DP so I guess its a lottery if you get DP or not :down:. In Sweden you must have 6 or more DP two be able to return it so I'm out of luck. But apart from that its a great multimedia device waiting for GTA and Grand Tourismo now :).

I tested a European PSP and opened it up to the shock of the sellers, I'm glad to confirm that these PSP's are made in Japan(In France at least)....

Cos this is the case for winning eleven, you cant play it without 2.0 or so im told. Also Winning Eleven doesnt have the Master League option. Hopefully, it'll be there in the Pro Evo Version cos Sony did say it'll be able to interact with the PS2 with some Master League features.

There is no chip needed since there are loaders(software) you can use which replace chips. The loaders which need UMD's work with every game and the one without the need of UMD's works with most games... This information is only valid for 1.5 firmware or below..

Well, if you just need one UMD to load the software games, then I recommend either your fave movie or a game which is too large for the memory stick... I sold all my PSP games because the games I play no longer need the old loader.... I now have over 50 psp games free of charge...

I have a friend who is in South Korea at the moment, its a good place to ask for 2gb memory sticks... 1gb is not enough for piracy games for psp.... Demand has risen so the price became balanced...
the closer u get/are to japan.. the better it becomes.. lol

The volume is perfect for the PSP, sometimes I don't even put it on full volume, however this depends on what game you test it with, because they vary... With ear phones there are no problems volume wise...

I bought KOSS PortaPro head phone for my PSP (and I also use it on my N6630 sometimes) and it rocks..........( the earphone that came with the PSP sucks.....to be honest. )
Wipeout is a pretty cool game and Fired-Up goes the same as well.......these 2 games are a must including Need for Speed Underground Rivals too.

well i got burnout legends, top game ! but its a bit glitchy, well mine is. Seems the UMD just isnt fast enough for it. Impact time (its after you crash) is a bit silly, as in the car wouldn't fall liked youd expect, so all the other cars get away lol.
PSP in general, i was thinking i wouldnt play it much when i first got a game but im loving it now. I dont like playing computer games if they get in the way of life, but PSP is there whenever i get bored play 20 mins before i go out, 20 mins waiting for a film on tv to start. Never be bored. Just need to sort out wireless internet with msn and im sorted.
Is anyone actually planning to watch movies on it? Personally im not bothered with the hassle of converting anythin for the psp. are there any psp format ready movie sites on the net?

I just bought the game 3 days ago and had been busy with something else so I haven't played that much....although I have 15 Golds so far.
I like the music though...so what I do is, I use my creative portable speaker and play the techno music in it while I chat with my friends online.

Do you use pspvideo9 to convert your movies? I used it and converted some movies like Lilo & Stich for example....and some funny videos.
You can also get ready formatted short films and movie trailers at pocketmovies.net
As for music......having my Coldplay, U2 and some other albums is enough for me.....and for music video, I converted some and watch them as well......but they take a lot of space in my memory stick duo.

You can play free games on PSP having a firmware 1.00 or 1.50...and of course, we, poor european and American, have the 1.51 or 1.52 firmware installed on our PSP...
The only way is to buy a japanese PSP or develop a downgrader...but that's not very easy...
Downgraders have become a reality... This message was edited because I predicted wrong...
I don't wait anymore....
I am thinking buying a japanese PSP with 1.50 firmware....but for now I don't have much money so....will buy my own games...

To upgrade your PSP from the 1.52 to a 2.0, you have to put the demo UMD that you received with your PSP and then go to the last menu item, after the games icon i Think and you have just to launch the update...
No need the USB cable or anything else...
But as Dunga said, upgrading your PSP to the 2.0 will give you no more the opportunity to downgrade (if one day, a downgrader is avalable)...
But the 2.0 give you an internet browser that works pretty good, plus some others things...you can see the full list of fixes when you launch the updgrade...you can cancel after this if you wish...

I think it's quite an old PSP, as I checed and it's PSP1001 not 1003 or 1004.

Create a folder called MP_ROOT on your psp memory stick, then on that folder create another folder 100MNV01 which will hold PSP MPEG 4 converted videos which you have to name like M4V0014 or M4V0015 but you have to name files like that, its mandatory....
If you're still unsure ask again, its not exactly easy...

I simply cant belive it its only been three weeks since i got it and there are dead pixels on my screen already. I thought it was the case only with US versions. I guess i'll have to take it back tomorrow to game.

I just received my Spiderman 2 free UMD... I can now play every game with the help of its launch.... Pretty cool, since its the only way you can play Toca Race Driver for free...

My PSP doesn't need downgrading since its a Japanese 1.5 purchased from the glorious city of Dubai... The loaders which don't need UMD's don't work with every game, the loader which needs any UMD could launch every game successfully....

Which reminds me, I don't need 2.0 to view all UMD movies, 1.5 is surprisingly sufficient... Spiderman 2 looks magnificent on the PSP...

Alright, if you need to play Winning Eleven 9 with music and commentary then you need a 1gb card with NOTHING on it except the game.... The ripped version is less than 500mb so no problem for 512mb memory stick pro duos... Both games work perfectly with Devhooks... I took a picture of Winning Eleven 9 screen shot of my psp, you can view it on page 4 of this thread...

I think this game is a big let down :( You cant zoom out much so you can see much and get tackled out of nowhere - serious damaged the gameplay for me.
seems like a half-hearted attempt by Konami to me - at least compared to the ps2.

They could have made the game better, but I play this game more than the others and I have over 50 games... On the other hand I've been a Winning Eleven hardcore player since the early 90's, this is by far the toughest one yet...

Note: Just got Colin Mcrae 2005, the most difficult game ever to exract to a 1gb... I went through 5 extract programs to figure out .uha file extension.... I also used this game with two loaders, both work but fastloader works better... :)
Just got Socom US Navy seals, yes Beta version.. I even accessd their internet lobby everything works and there are online players already.... Working on getting the ripped SSX, Fifa06 is cool, Midnight Club ripped is on the way...
I have been testing underground Japanese games like Densha Go pocket, Gallery Fake, Astonishia story....

A one gig flash card can only hold 2 or maybe 3 ripped UMD games.
Yes, I have definitely given that hard drive a lot of thought... However, the games run slower on these hard drives, granted that it has double capacity battery.... Hard drives use more battery than flash memory.... In the end its all about 4gb memory stick prices....

Today i found 2gb Sony MSDP for under £100 on ebay including postage and insurance. I think it will come down even more in next couple of months. Then i'll get one for my psp which will be alot better then HDD.

yeah i think the memory card way is better. 2 gb will do fine.
Just got The Con, by far the best fighting game on PSP.... GTA any second now, patience is the only problem....
NOTE: GTA is on the way! :)
