No, 6650 and 7600 are part of Series 40, as you can see from Forum Nokia (http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/1,6566,010_20,00.html) website.
changeable, but not Creakin

What is it built out off?..
How's the poly?.. accepts midis?..
Also, does it have Bluetooth?
Is the IR/Bluetooth working or is it nonsence like the 7250i's one?..
plastic..still suprisingly good.
The phone has freaking everthing
including USB 2.0 connection through the DKU-2 cable (usb to pop-port) REALLY fast tranfers data tranfers...
Geo thx.
This is only normal Nokia since N6600.
wow. look fwd to your pics later
ehh...no, 6600 does not have the pop port, nor does it support usb connectivity...
but is the 6600 a "smarter" phone than the 6230?

Geo..
Have you tested sending files via IR/Bluetooth with the 6230 and T610 or something?
Yes, what I want to know is if the IrDA is still crippled, or can you beam picture/sound files phone-to-phone?
not tested yet, but it should be able to!
Mp3 it can play without handfree pluged in, Radio uses the handfree cable as an antenna, so then its needed.
One cool thing is that you can have an MP3 as your alarm..very nice to wake up to.
Looks like It's gonna be a very good phone from Nokia after so long......
What's the price roughly? USD600? More or less??

How is the pic quality taken by 6230? Can you give a comparison? Like it is better or worse than other cam phones...

how about poly ringin' tone? much better this time? loud enough? can you compare to other brand such SE or samsung? :) thanks!
I also like the phone, but if we're talking release dates around q1-2,2004 there will be other and better phones (for instance DBtel M8).
Another thing, isn't Geo a little biased here? Of course he thinks it's the worlds best phone since he works for Nokia. It's just like if I were to review some HP stuff, that would also be very biased...
of course I might be a bit bias.
But I try not to be...
hehe, I know how hard it can be. :)
It was just a few of your comments that really showed your were a Nokia guy before you said it yourself.
Anyway, cool to have you around to answer questions..
Btw, I think Nokia puts some addictive drug in their phones!
I keep wanting to not like Nokia's phones (because of missing features like BT and little innovation), but still I really like (actually envy) my GF's 7210, and I just can't get myself to sell my 7250i...

It seems that Nokia has a very interesting marketing policy, with GEO, working at Nokia, in this forum:-).
I don't mind that, but I'd like to know which is the truth. If matters for someone...
from what i've read this guy really seems to have good conections with nokia ...
Mabey he talk just around, try to nonvince people how good Nokia is?
that is correct, policy states that i can not even let other people hold it until its on markeT, due to the fact that software is unstable and build quality of the prototype might not be as good as the final version. You just have to trust the fact that I am not bullshiting you.
I dunno how to prove it though...its up to you.
And no..I am not marketing guy. Why the hell would state that I think N-gage is joke and that the whole side talk function suxs...
do you know any release date ?
Listen GEO,Mabey you working at Nokia or not.If you do,just ask to mine questions.
What about the SonyEricsson T650 and the Siemens S65?
i think that the T650 and the S65 kick realy the Nokia 6230 in their but. :D don't you think?
If you realy working at RD from Nokia why kopie Nokia from SonyEricsson stuf like menu,Theme's,joystick, touchscreen and photphonebook?
Nokia said long time ago that Nokia nothing to do with SE stuf,so now Nokia walk the same like SE did 2 years ago?
And why is the design so ugly like the 6220 no offence?
What about the price??? i know Nokia have licentie for bluetooth, screen, cam and more:
Why is Nokis phone sooooo expensiv????????
Why is the most Nokia phone's the same technolegy in another case? like 6800,6810 and 6820. and so on.
Nokia have made good phone;s in the past and good looking models like the 8310,why make Nokia ugly phone than in the past?
The 6600 Ugly
The 3200 very ugly
The 7700 Ugly and fat.
The 7200 very Ugly
The 3660 super ugly.
The 7600 very ugly
The 6230 very ugly
Why all the new phone's from Nokia so ugly???
Sorry GEO this has nothing to do with you,but only Nokia make me sick realy sick.

I think that the 6230 is a stylish looking phone, you don't, thats ok?. But what I can't believe is that you think that the Nokia 8310 is good looking.

Hi Geo,
Hehe. just adding to the stack of questions we have for you.
Do you know what's the specs on the camera? Is it the same as any of the 60 series phone? (i.e. 3650 3660 7650 6600?) IS the camera even in the prototype? I've seen some shots of one, and the camera (if that's what it was) looked too small to be one.
Also, is there any way to move files around in the memory card? Would I even be able to write a program, a file manager, which would let me bluetooth/beam and receive files of any extension? Is the infrared/bluetooth compatible with PDA's? Samsung cell phones? PC's? laptops?
Here's the easiest question: Is the keypad backlit?
I know this is a lot of questions, but it would be really great if you could even give some estimates to the answers of them.

Why don't you check the official spec from Nokia (http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,8764,47676,00.html) website?
i like it, its cool.. but i cant see it as an improvment on the 40series, like 7250i or 7210..
although its yet comes with a 65000colour screen, but the menu's and the battery/rf indicator is still like 7250i series.. and i think its a good thing that it can take 640*480 pix, but the rest is like 7250i ...
but its ok.. but i , myself think that, 6600 is a better phone.. it's more unqiue and 6230 looks nothing really new in itself...
i donno.. i think 3660 is even better than 6230 after all..
i'll give 4 from 5 to 6230, 4.5 from 5 to 3660 and 5 from 5 to 6600 :)

There's quite a lot improvements in 6230 compared to 7250i:
+ Bluetooth
+ 65 k TFT screen
+ UI with three soft keys
+ VGA camera
+ More memory + memory card
+ Video player
+ Video recorder
+ E-mail client
+ Streaming video/audio
+ Java MIDP 2.0
+ 24 poly MIDIs
+ MP3/AAC player
+ EDGE class 10 (4+1, 3+2), data speed up to 236.8 Kbit/s
+ GPRS class 10 (4+1, 3+2)
+ Voice recorder
+ XHTML over TCP/IP
+ MMS over TCP/IP

+ Voice commands
+ Precense enhanced contacts
+ SyncML
+ Instant messaging

Yeah, i agree its got a big improvement from 7250i, but its still a normal phone, its not gonna be a Smart-Phone standard... thats what i think at least... even the menu's theme is the same as previous series and the main body style too... also, its silver body reminds me kinda samsung phones indeed...
but its a cool phone with extra things in it.. i have no doubts about it... but i'll choose 6600 and nokia's other smart phones over this 6230... :2jump:

Oops! .. please dont say that ..lol ... 6230 is much more better than them.. 6230 will kick so many butts ... ... but i think smartphones are better than this.. mainly becoz they have bigger screens that 6230
As a phone lover who worships small phones, 6230 does that successfully with its built in MMC slot. Makes a world of difference now and is at the moment on a rank of its own. Smart phones are heavier and larger....
However, if Nokia designed the 6230 as an active flip and well designed clamshell with big screen. I would be all over it, but candy bar phones are not my type like many others.
Ironic, but...
You know, the MMC is one of the 6230's greatest advantages, but it just so happens that it is one of the features that Nokia has so badly implemented. Instead of having a convenient slot on the side of the phone, like Siemens phones or SE MS Duo, Nokia has placed the MMC under the battery. It was a problem on the 3650, it is a problem on the 6600 and N-gage and will be a problem on the 6230. Nokia says this is to protect the MMC, but I think that's rubbish, as there's nothing wrong with having it on the outside.
Pure senselessness...:insane:
hey there!!
i'v got my eyes on 6230...just that its not available YET!
ok too many ppl asked too many questions.. so i'll just ask mine..

probably january i wouldnt think it will be available before christmas,im looking forward to c how much it costs compared 2 wen the 7210 was first released, that was $1099 i think it should be much less than that

Hmmm I'm picking at least $NZ1 000.
how many of you think it'll be more Expensive than 6600??
-The Andyman-

thats pretty unlikly i think...
i think the 6230 will be about $1000 no more coz that would be 2 much imo

10-11-2003, 12:52
$1000 ?? what currency ?
Aussie ?
I don't think it will cost more than 6600 because 6600 is a smartphone and their features are mostly same..
The price should be cheaper...
yeah.. i expect the same.. but 6230 has MP3 player... 6600 doesnt (as far as i know)...
The Edge
11-11-2003, 00:28
I'm quoting $NZ here. It'll probably be a bit more than $NZ1 000. I daresay the price of the MP3 player would push it up.
Next question: how/where would I get a USB cable to connect it to my computer to upload MP3's? I don't want to fork out another $400 for a Bluetooth card.

it should have the standard pop port like on all seires 40 fones they r very easy 2 find...

AUD $1000 ??
6220's price was Singapore $900 when it was released, and now dropped to approximately $650...
The price of 6230 would reduce too...
$1000 is way too expensive...
SE P900 the most sophisticated phone costs AUD$1150..

we did u get that info from coz in my local optus world shop it is still about $1500 coz it wasent released 2 long ago,6220 hasnt been officially introduced here yet but u can buy them off ebay for about $700
Schizopernic

I live in Indonesia
The price of 6220 is 3,2 million rupiahs and P900 is 7 million rupiahs
1 AUD = Rp. 6.000
Calculate it yourself...
in DUBAI... 6220 costs around DHS. 1670 ...6600 around DHS.1790... so im still wondering wat shall b the price of 6230!
1 DHS= 2.1 Aus $ (approx)

Problem with buying them off somewhere like eBay: what do you do if you need some repairs done under warranty?
hope you ppl can answer my queries :)
1) can you install programs on the 6230 like the 6600? for example install a program that enables me to take longer video footages, bcos 2min + is just too short!
2) i read somewhere that the 6600 dont have the integrated mp3 player like the 6230, so if i install a program that allows me to play mp3s on the 6600, does it mean that the 6600 is the same as the 6230? (other than the usb port)
3) i want a phone that has great mp3 functions, so should i go for the 6600, the 6230 or the 3660?
thx in advance for the replies!

if it gets broken i either fix it myself if its not major or if its serious then i give it 2 my mate 2 fix,hes a mobile fone genius, lol

Q.2 basically yes, apart from a couple of other features
Q.3 i would suggest the 6230 because it is smaller in size but still has most of 6600 features...

1) yes you can. They have to be written in Java for a 40 series phone and can not exceed 128kB in size. As to better video recording program, we'll have to see if somebody out there takes the time to write one.
2) My gripe about the 60 series (6600,7650,3650,3660) is that there's only mono sound. Otherwise, the mp3 sounded great on the 3650.
3) 6230
hey there!!
i'v got my eyes on 6230...just that its not available YET!
ok too many ppl asked too many questions.. so i'll just ask mine..
(sorry if i repeat any Qs...)
1. Can u set the MP3 files and/or voice recorded files as THE RING TONE(s)?
2. whats its price range?
3. is it comparable with SonyEricsson's P900 /P800 ? any idea?
4. can i borrow urs for like... 10years? hehe
1) Quite possibly. I remember reading off the specs sheet that mp3 can be used for alarm tones.
2) dunno
3) they are way too different to compare.
4) Sure... if you can somehow give me two of them to me, I'd consider lending one to you! :D
Is there anyway to put the phone in a "flight mode" so that it can be used in aircraft?
I read it on the spec sheet that it is possible

Electronical devices are not allowed during take-off and landing. In between you can use electronical devices, except mobile phones without flight mode.

Geo,
if you're still reading this thread and
if you're really working for Nokia R&D
i really u don't have the connectivity crippled on the 6230
like the current series40 phones.
i can't even share pics with ppl standing beside me without
paying for it by mms,
i should be able to share it by IR or bluetooth.
And i can't even share or create ringtones like in other
manufacturers phones, even if i paid for it!

Geo:
Does it have the same sound problems that the 6610 had? I had two of those things and they both suffered from a crappy speaker, distorted audio etc. Sebset knows what I'm talking about. Have you had voice issues on your 6230?
no matter what everyone asks you can't really 'understand' a phone unless you grab it in your hands.
I believe Geo and i'm looking forward to this phone.
Only thing i want to ask from Geo, is to give us a more accurate date than just 1st quarter of 2004. If that is possible of course.
My guess about the price compared to NOKIA 6600 is that N6230 will be cheaper, because the screens (displays) usually cost the most on mobiles and 6600 screen is quite big :) also 6600 is a smartphone but 6230 isnt. those cost a lot more than anything else on phones.
Also i would like to know how much is it approximately going to cost.
-thnx in advance

Bear in mind the 6230 also has an mp3 player, which would probably add something to the price.
Asked at Club nokia and 6230 will not have flight mode, still looks good though
but the review say that the phone's screen look worse? and the camera shot also doesn't look good.... is it true?
by the way, the phone is a Four-way navigation or Five-way navigation?

I disagree there. I'll preface this by saying I've not actually seen the SD card mount that lives under the battery, but I'd imagine it's a lot smaller form factor than the standard spring-eject slot in most other devices (Palms, digital cameras, etc). Not only would the slot itself take up space, but the frame of the phone would have to be strengthened to handle the nonstandard flexing created by pushing a card in, or by the card catching on something and being pushed front/back. Not to mention, it's now an open port for pocket lint and stuff to accumulate.
My using a flat-load system, you also limit the type of cards that can be inserted into the phone to pretty much memory only. Nobody will stick a potentially unfriendly (and usually non-MMC card sized) SD card in (like another Bluetooth or camera or IR card).
By mounting the card under the battery, you lower the number of times the user accesses the card. I imagine that Nokia would rather the user think of it in terms of add-on storage, rather than removable. The phone comes with USB2.0, right? Why pop the card out when you can sync directly - especially when you can get another $20 for the cable to do so.
I'd be curious to see what percentage of returns on the other 'slot loading' MMC phones are directly related to the mechanism/design.
Just my take on it...

Optus offers streaming TV as part of their "Optus Zoo" and till March '04 (i think) its free, so i hope i get my 6230 by then and take advantage of that, that's be cool!
My only real issue with the 6230 is that it wont officially support MMC cards greater than 128Mb, although according to other sites it is possible to use larger cards but they can cause problems, if only Nokia fixed this issue before the release. Because expecially with MP3s, 128Mb doesnt go very far!

I personally won't import phones again...I've had a bit of a bad experience a few times...when I had to try and get something repaired under warranty it was going to cost too much with import duties and crap (this is a 5510 I'm talking about) I decided six months on to cut my losses and sell it. Wasn't worth all the hassle. Easier to get it locally, so you have a shop to go back to if it all turns bad.

'Camera. The built-in camera allows you to take pictures in VGA resolution and portrait mode (80x96 pixels) and the pictures are stored in JPEG format. When viewing pictures on the screen the quality is awful, however, after transferred to a PC they look slightly better, but still not as good as expected. '
Ok recocnise this? No it's not from the 6230 review I copied and pasted it from the review of the 7600!

I dont think the reviews on this site are too good, firstly when they translate them from Russian to English I think some of the truth is lost due to wording and all that, but also if they just copy and paste then whats the point in doing a review! Also when i first logged onto this site today, the new Siemens review was up and it said that since the two are so alike they have copied and pasted some of the bits from the older phone's review!!! What's with that, even if they are alike they could at least write up a new review!!! I'll be sticking to Mobile burn reviews, but its always good to have a second opinion.
Also i think this website is too critical of screens on phones, and their images of screens often look horrible, that's because they take close ups showing at the pixel level, then of course its going to look bad on a high resolution computer monitor!!!
Ahh sorry, just my two cents...

Does the cam has a zoomfunction? Not after you took a pic but when you are taking a pic thanks!!
I have some questions
1.)what is the most quality of mp3s 6230 supported.
for example 128kbps 44khz or 320kbps 44khz or 48khz
Which one?
2.)Do we record from Fm radio?
3.)Will MMC cards be useful for 6230?
Also I dont expect 6230 will be very expensive.I think it will be about 420$.

Guessing here, but here goes:
(1) It can probably be whatever quality you want. Whatever will fit onto 32MB (this is going from my old 5510).
(2) If it's like the 5510, yes.
(3) They will be, they'll expand the memory. 32MB isn't much in today's data-filled world.

Im pretty sure i read somewhere that it will support up to 128kbps MP3s, but who knows that was a long time ago and it could change by the time its out.
Also why would u want 48khz? CD quality is 44khz! So if u rip MP3s off a CD at 48khz you aren't getting any better quality just wasting memory!

Looks quite nice, i hope the menus are animated though! I was very shocked when i first saw the menus on the early colour screen Nokias and they were static, that's just bad! My 8250 has animated menus!!!

yes, the first color screen devices of nokia didn't have animated menu's, but those now have, so i think the 6230 has got it.
I always didn't understand the fact that nokia has never launched the 8250 is europe, it is so nice (back then ofcouse) but i still loves the design, a real beauty in blue...

Yeah the bright blue lights were what attracted me to it in the first place!!! I cant believe it was never released in Europe! But could you get it from any shops that imported from other countries?

It's a very old phone now, and as a result may be quite hard to find. I think the shop I get my phones from still has a few...but I'd need to check.
anyone know when is the 6230 arrive in asia?

But being the first also means that you have to live with bugs and stuff like that. When you wait a month it should be solved, or am I wrong in this?
