First clamshell from Nokia ? This one surely not ;)
There have been clamshells from Nokia in the asian market.

Another 4096 colour phone???? And what's with that design??? Don't Nokia learn anything from their rivals??? I only have one word for this phone: aaaaarrrrrggggghhhh!!!!!!!

Hawkeye
22-10-2003, 17:22
Looks more like a Game Boy Advance SP to me:)

The interior looks rather nice but the phone itself is very squarish and the fur look alike exterior is hidious.
Nokia never stop surprising me... One is uglier than the other...

:insane:

nokia... i dun think many people will like this model. nokia is kinda moving towards the 'leather look' with this phone and the square looking phone...

4k colour screen, no blue tooth, bad design... i dun think they can make it after the 6600....

This is the Z200 competition i think.

Z200 competition? haha!! lolz...

7 series shouldn't b a low-end phone....But 4k colour in this age? Speechless.

22-10-2003, 18:42
Woowww,......Nokia's department of design is still smoking gras,.....;)
I also think the art designer cannot count up to more than 4096. It must be the reason for them still using 4k display.

Jackle
22-10-2003, 18:52
haha still smoking grass...

well if you put it that way.... they must have been smoking for a long time. when was the last really good looking phone that they came out with?? not taking into consideration the 6600.

I have never seen anything so ugly!!!!!!!!!

Yah, Nokias get worse every day.

Why bother, u compare that with any of the Samsung clamshell phones and it doesn't stand a chance!!!!

It seems very similar features etc... to the S300, now that is only 200GBP sim free, looks loads nicer and even has better features.

22-10-2003, 20:06
Uuuuuhhhh... It's a little bad with 4k colours...!!!:o

I also think that the screen look a little wierd on the clamshell...
A lot of space on the upper part... Blooh...

AiSuK
22-10-2003, 20:32
does anyone know how much memory it has or whether it has MMC support..
The screen is better than the previous series 40 phones as its stated above that its an active matrix (TFT, TFD, ..), so it should be similar to an N-Gage's screen which is ok but definetably not perfect.

Could not agree more. Put this next to the E700 and it looks like a model thats a year old! Nokia could have at least put in upto date features like those seen in the E700 or even the V600!

23-10-2003, 01:28
Looks like a cosmetic box to me. Nokia didn't even take full advantage of the clamshell design. Look at the screen...it's so small. Wonder why certain manufacturers are releasing clamshell phones these days which were never part of the product offering in the past. SE came up with clamshell. Now Nokia.

23-10-2003, 02:12
Nokia response to E700 and Z600?
It has some interesting features and good size, but that screen looks small and ugly, and just 4k :P.
Also the design is weird probably more women oriented

No more "woW"...Im very dissapointed by all 4 "new" Nokia phones.
Shame on Nokia!

23-10-2003, 08:50
Yuck, just yuck.
Nokia's inexperience in making clamshells shows in this phone. I thought the Z600 was thick and heavy, but this is even worse. Also, they have wasted the opportunity to make a bigger screen with the clamshell form-factor, but it's still only 128*128 pixels.

Nokia is selling ( not making ) clamshell design phones in asia
Nokia know european market is not found of clamshell , and this phone is definetly not a response to any other device just a phone for " happy fews "just like 7600 but more popular ...

yucks!!! wat lousy design and color combination.

furthermore, look at the hinges, looks like its pluck off from some door and screw it onto the phone....

I can't agree more, I guess nokia's older ugly phones were nicer than the newer and uglier phones, what the hell are they doing, it is amazing...

Shmee150
23-10-2003, 13:20
Well, i think this is the worst Nokia phone ever, miles behind technology, about the worst looks you can imagine, the is less good, but the same size as the Samsung S300 which has general better features, and the 7200 is still about 3mm thicker. It will be very expensive, and completly not worth the money. Anybody who wants this phone should be shot!

Well, if you call EDGE an old technology, what is it then when other manufacturers, like SE, starts announcing EDGE phones?? Historical, maybe?

Looked like a cigarette case or a wallet when I first saw the picture...

Samsung already got around the part where they can have clamshells with out showing the ugly hinges.
That phone looks a kitchen door on hinges..

Nokia ain't gona raise its sales with 4096 colours anymore.
what I reckon is by the time Nokia gets out 65k colour,
Samsung will have 262k. (which they already have in Korea)

Seriously though, that's one butt ugly looking phone..

The design is the one you love or hate nothing between that, and I like it :p
And it has got some good features: 65k TFT Display, VGA Camera with video recording function, FM radio, 4 MB memory not bad no?

e700
10-01-2004, 00:43
I hav tested the preview model of the 7200!!!! :D

The display is ABOUT the same size as the 6230! The quality is also the same... infact the displays r almost identicle!!

The fone itself is not bad at all... The quality not great, i hav 2 say, but 4 nokia's first clamshell its amazing! The firmware is very stable, only some issues with menu, but that will b fixed in the future!

The cam & video recorder r awsome... probably better than the 6230, I HAV SEEN BOTH IN ACTION!!! And if not better, the same!

The handset is reasonable in size...

Also 4 ppl hu love fashion... this is the fone 4 u!!!

I will b happy to answer ne questions...

Nokia 8100 !!!!
12-01-2004, 15:51
I know its flawed but a 160 * 128 is only 20% larger than the standard Nokia screen so thats just about forgivable. In terms of BT - think of the market this is aiming for, none of these people I think would own a PDA. Its a NOKIA CLAMSHELL and all its other features r up there. As for design its really going to be a wait and see. Man I have waited years for this. Think about what a sequel would be like :-)))))

Tu!@ng Man
13-01-2004, 09:16
IT IS 65k TFT screen....but it is only 128x128 in resolution...what a fool by Nokia....a bigger screen should built for 7200...!!!!

However....it is too bulky in size...6230 would be more worthy to buy...

Nokia 8100 !!!!
17-01-2004, 11:57
We know the faults from the specs and looks but in ure oppinion whats the worst thing that strikes you?

BTW the worst Nokia was the 8910 (big dissapointment)

badger
17-01-2004, 15:00
Its the fabric on the outer casing, If you were to put it down on a wet surface it would stain stright away!

Also the joint is very flimsy & very wobbly, apart from that its just a basic series 45 phone, its has silly animated menus which repulses me.

Its large and grotesque peice of equiptment.

I hate it.

Nokia 8100 !!!!
17-01-2004, 16:34
Casing: Well those can be changed so thats not a major problem!

Hinge: Thats no surprise but what angle does it rest at and can it go flat?

Size: Its not actually much larger than the MotoT720 tho but is wider (which is silly)

Hate: OK OK! But when receiving a call (ringer) is their a side button by the IR that silences? and does it deactivate the flip so u can open and then make a(nother) decision to answer?

Cheers!

7200 is a bad design....

18-01-2004, 10:58
wait, r u saying the construction quality is bad?

-The Andyman-
21-01-2004, 09:01
badger

there is no series 45

Nokia 8100 !!!!
21-01-2004, 10:45
-Andyman-

(Not bein pedantic!) Itmeans its different from traditional 2 key Series 40, calling it Series 45 makes sense when talking about it to differentiate.

Badger

Does/will it creak later in life? Does it feel at least OK in the pocket? The deferred answer button on side?

cyberdog100
22-01-2004, 14:28
I think its pretty ugly compared to other clamshell phones, such as the E700 which is very nice, and had it not lacked so many features i would have bought it by now instead of waiting for the 6230!

the main thing with the 7200 is the fact that between where it says Nokia (above the display) and the top of the display there's about 1cm of space, by looking at the photos, they should have made it have a 128*160 display, that's the whole point of clamshell phones, so that one half is devoted to a display and the other for a keypad and they can both be bigger and not cramped, but Nokia just missed the point!

Btw, i hope the Nokia design team reads these forums, they could learn a hell of a lot from here, and it wouldn't even cost them a thing!!! They'd get better information than from paid market research!

badger

cyberdog100

Just wait, you may see a Series 60 version appear! Also there is plenty of space for a forward facing camera aint there? (Even with a S60 screen) If this phone gets a good cust approval they will use the same boards & shell to produce new more advanced versions of this handset.

Nokia 8100 !!!!

There is no way to cancel a call unless you leave it! Same as 8910/8910i when you open the phone is answers the call. The phone doesn't creak when opened but is you try and force the phone from side to side it does creak.

Andyman

Leave the S40/S45 argument. To support more function (like video & media playback etc the phone uses a different version of S40 O/S Hence S45. I agree that there is no mention on the Forum (Nokia) or any of the other Nokia sites but trust me it exists.

deuxani
22-01-2004, 17:17
Look at how much space there is above the screen. They should've made the phone with a much taller screen or just much smaller in size. That gap is useless.

badger
22-01-2004, 18:00
The grey space around the screen is exactly the same size a the screen on the N-Gage & 6600 etc.......

This is what Nokia says about Series 40 (http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/1,,040,00.html?fsrParam=3-3-/main.html&fileID=3772) :

"Series 40 phones implement a number of different user interfaces. The most common user interface in
the family has a 12-bit (4,096) color display with 128 x 128 pixel resolution, as found in the Nokia
7210 mobile phone. Series 40 devices also include resolutions of 128 x 160 pixels (the Nokia 6650
imaging phone) and 96 x 65 pixels (the Nokia 3510i mobile phone). Other resolutions may be
introduced in the future."
