I dont think anyone has the appetite to start comparing these two again so please read the following two threads and post any specific questions later.

Thanks for those.

Big question for me really is, how beasty does the V635 feel to people (in comparison to the E720 would be good) as I've always found motorola's a bit large? Also, can you remove the arial thingy (technical!)?

I'm not really that bothered about having the phone as an MP3 player, would this make any difference to people's advice on which to get?

for external arials, the bigger, the better the reception. you can remove the arial and give it a stub. but like i say, the reception suffers.

as for the actual phones, they're basically the same size.

V635 isnt that big. It's slightly bigger than the E720 but quite compact compared to the V5xx series and V600. I think the antenna can be removed and replaced with a smaller one but it does affect reception slightly.

If you're not bothered about mp3 player than stick with the E720.

Edit: oops, looks like BrightSpark beat me to it.

this should have been said ages ago: what exactly are you wanting out of the phone? you've mentioned that you don't need an mp3 player, so what else do you need and not need?

Ok, basically I intend to get another MP3 player (5Gb) so I guess that doesn't really bother me as I'm assuming the memory cards for phones can't yet compete (unless they're likely to in the near future...?) so that isn't a big deal.

I'm looking for something that's stylish and a general good phone, in terms of ease of use, quality of colour screen and camera and what have you. I just don't really know much about phones.

My main concerns about the E720 are a) the voice clarity and b) the commoness of it (everyone had the E700, which started getting annoying, is this as popular?)

My main concerns about the V635 are the size and weight. Does anyone know how far the lack of antenae effects the signal? And also, is the V5... series the one with the blue front...?

i think the e720 is the more stylish of the two, but only you will know which is the most stylish in your eyes.
ease of use - they are more dependent upon what you like and what you're used to.
-quality of colour screen - they are about the same. on paper(ie resolution, number of colours, and screen technology), they are identical(i'm 99% certain that they both have transflective tft).
-camera picture quality - they are around the same, although the v635 has a slight edge here.

And also, is the V5... series the one with the blue front...?
they all have a blue LCD, if thats what you're asking. but they don't all have a blue front. my v500 is silver throughout.

the signal strength is reported to be really good. you can also change the sifnal strength on the motorola's. default is 'medium', and thats what people have reviewed it as. you can improve the reception further still be choosing either 'high' or 'continous'(where the phone continously searches for the best signal available, but this drains the battery more quickly than the others).

Thanks, that's pretty helpful. I take it you don't know of any larger memory cards that will be available anytime soon?

The V500 series...do you know how smaller and less heavy the V635 is in comparison? Because I know someone with a V5XX and I find it a bit large.

Is the signal strength with the E720 good do you know? I have really poor signal in general here which is baaad!

512MB is available, but i haven't seen it in the UK yet. maybe in a month or 2.

they're about the same size. i didn't compare it with my v500 side by side, but the v635 looked really small. you're best off visiting a shop to see it for yourself becuase we all have different perceptions of what is small and what is considered large.

in that case, you will get much better results by changing your network rather than the phone.

Unfortunately, all networks are bad here, but maybe it'll be better because i'm moving sometime (life story ;) !)

I think I'll regret it if I make a decision without visiting the shops to look at these phones. So I think I'll drag myself out lol. Thanks for your help!

UH no Bright Spark

I have used the stub on the v600, v620 and now the v635 in Germany and US and it is the same for either arials.

When I travel anywhere I take the reg antena just incase your theory is right Bright Spark but I have found the stub works just as well as the reg antena on the phone. :spy:

I just keep my network settings to continious 24/7 ;)

'fraid not. the general rule is that the reception is decreased.
