Hey, I'm not sure which to choose out of these two phones. On paper I think the E720 is the better phone, however I've heard really bad things about the voice quality. Can anyone help?? Thanks.
E720 has megapixel camera, CIF video record but memory is limited to 88mb. Sound quality was a batch problem but i'm not even sure if it was a hardware fault or the preset volume being too loud and causing too much distortion/vibration in the speaker cos some ppl have said lowering the sound level to 2/3 from a max 5 has helped.
E398 has stereo speakers, T-Flash slot and probably a better quality mp3 player but camera is vga and there's no video recorder.
So the problem with the sound on the E720 may not affect everyone? Or not greatly?
Which do you think is the better phone?
My choice is getting the E720 with 500 texts and 1000 mins (offpeak, landlines and O2) for £20 a month for 12 months.
or
E398 on T-Mobile with 750 texts and 500 off peak minutes for £23.40 a month for 18 months.
Which is the better option do you think? Thanks.
I think in terms of overall features and design, E720 is better but that's just my opinion.
Getting a 12month contract on o2 is also better cos in 18 months time the E398 would have really aged...
Yeah I thought that, it wouldn't be so bad if it was for 12 months. But the problem is the E720's supposedly poor sound quality, and the fewer texts... Do you know anything about the E720's sound quality?

the main advantages of the e398 over the e720 are expandable memory (if around 85MB is not enough), twin speakers (the advantage here is that the ringtone volume is likely to be louder. most people don't listen to their mp3's through the twin speakers (they use headphones instead)), its more customisable and much easier to tweak, and its cheaper.
if none of those advantages has any bearing on your needs, get the e720.
the problem with the voice clarity is almost certainly due to 1 or 2 bad batches and is not a characteristic of the phone.
Well if u do end up with a faulty E720 u can always send it back and ask for a K750i for the inconvenience (or a V635 if they dont give u the K750i) :D
You can tell them in advance that you're aware of a faulty batch and expect a replacement if the one u get has sound problems.
I was thinking of the V635, but I don't like the beastiness of it. To be honest, I'm not bothered about an MP3 player, I intend on getting a Micro Zen anyway. But I can't decide whether I want another flip phone or a candybar, nor which contract to go on! Dammit!

beastiness!? :eek:. the v635 is smaller than the e398 :lol:
It's thicker isn't it? I dunno, I'm just not a big fan of Motorola flip phones. But tell me about the V635 ;)?
Oh and another thing...what kinda things do you mean you can tweak with the E398 that you can't with the E720?

yeah, well (some) other messages boards can be slapdash and allow all kinds of such behaviour...........like swearing, text speak, multiple consecutive posting, links to warez, etc. consistancy and rules are necessary, otherwise mayhem eventually breaks loose.
we're trying to eliminate all that.
