A tri-band phone would be sufficient to use both in us and europe but having a quad band phone would be an advantage.

You can get any motorola V5xx-series phone such as the V535 which is quad-band, has a good set of features and doesnt cost much. If u have specific features or style in mind u should give us more info.

Go for a Motorola V series phone like the V6xx phones. They are good and not overpriced and they are quad-band.

there's also the sharp gx30(quadband) and the nokia 6230b(triband) that supports both 850 and 1900 bands.

ron3637,

Moto is great for traveling to and from the US and Europe.

Moto has Quads and Tribands on most to all of there phones

I have the v635 and love it but you can get any V6xx series phone for about 200 Euros or less outright (without conract)

There are some other Mobiles out there that make Tri and Quads but I would say moto has the most ;)

Moto definitely has the most quad band phones. The V series are almost all quad band and the Mpx220 is quad band. The reasoning behind it is because that since Moto is a US company, they want to appeal to the US market as much as anywhere without having to make different devices. The only other quad band phones are the Sharp GX30 and a couple Blackberry units and one or 2 others here and there.

At least Moto has that in mind :D

The other manufacturers arent worried about it much because they know that Europe and Asia are the big picture in the GSM market. The US is to much at odds with 2 major carriers of both GSM and CDMA, so the market share for GSM phones isnt as large as in Europe and Asia (outside of Japan).
