Hey,
This thread here is just asking about the imaging in phones.
When will camera phone finally reach the quality of a digital camera if it will?
I have heard something about 2006-2007 but does any one know any better or have any opinion on this?
You have the samsung P860 with 5 megapixels...

I guess phones will never reach the quality of digital camera. Cause in 2006/2007 when we all have phones with 3 to 5 megapixels, digital cameras will again provide a higher level of photography.

True but lets talk about the todays cameras, thats a basic need for good quality pics
Originally, cameraphones are for snapping a moment and sending them to your friends. (bluetooth, MMS) Not for taking pictures while on tour or something. People buy a phone and expect it to take better pictures than a digital camera... That's so silly. IMHO more than 1.3 megapixels on a phone is completely useless!
I agree with Karim. for catching the moment you just need a clear & decent picture. Otherwise one takes his Camera when he knows that pictures are gonne be taken.
But hey Karim maybe you & me are just old fashioned ;)

No, we're just smart enough to realize that a phone is NOT a digital camera ;)

You know you two REALLy got me to think...
All this time I was sitting waiting and waiting for the ultimate nokia phone so called to have 3MP+QVGA+ Hard disk as I last heard but I came to think right now how silly I really am, I have myself a digital camera which takes good enough pictures and a 1.3MP phone actually can be more than enough, this has really got me to think that much that I think I may just get the 6680 after all, what can go wrong? better phones come so I'll get them also some day even if that mean waiting 3 yaers :)
THANK YOU you two :rotate:
Superphone, you are mostley welcome ;) I'll also add: as long as you're fine with your cam, enjoy the 6680 for a couple of years & then higher pixels will be standard in phones.
Isn't it just great to be this wise :D

LOL! sure is

Anyways my only prob now is when I'll be getting it, sadly enough I may have to wait up to half a year untill the phone is in my hands since my gradmother won't be coming to the area any time soon
Superphone, well it sure is worth waiting for, so don't give up to something you like less just because you're getting impatient ;)
anyway, I believe that after 2mp there will be only slight differences with the Digital cameras. Currently I am using an Olympus digital camera 3.2mp 8x optical zoom and I am totally happy with it's quality!

I prefer phones without camera. Why - I just don't need more expensive and bigger phone with something I won't use. I always bring my little digital camera in my pocket (the phone is in the other pocket). I hope soon there will be a good high-class phone with NO camera :)

The megapixelness is pretty irrelevant until they impove both the lens and the JPG compression algorithm. The full size images I've seen from the 1.2Mpixel Motorola E1000 posted on the web are absolutely dire compared with a digital camera even from 1999. I had hoped things would have improved since the Nokia 7650, the first camera phone to be sold in the uk, which did an excellent through-the-bottom-of-a-Coke-bottle impression, but it doesn't look like it.
