Anyone here got a PSP? Is it worth getting one or would the DS be better?

Anyone here got a PSP? Is it worth getting one or would the DS be better?
Dear Makemedie.
i bought the psp 3 days ago . it took lot of thiking , reviews reading , nail bitting , and cash , just to make my mind whether to buy the thing or not .
my first impression is : what a classy , glossy , elegant , mystirious machine , i'm holding in my bare hands . Enough description , let's get to details .
it's a great machine for playing high definition games . games with astounding graphics , sounds , storylines , effects and many more . so the idea of having is 100 % guaranteed .
the machine has extensive abilities , video and audio . it supports MP3, which is a good thing . it can show high quality JPG photos ( and believe me , you'll be shocked by both : size and depth of the screen .
the downsides are :
battery life , is so so . refer to gamespot.com for a quick battery tests roundup . an average of 3.5 hours .
pricey propriatery Memory Stick .
let me point toward a point :
it's a superb machine , and 3rd party publishers and manufacturers , see profit opportunities in it . thus the appearence of memory cards that are somehow cheaper . new batteries that pumps 30 % more energy than it's predecessor . ( actually sony is working on a new battery right now )
if you want to read some interesting facts and hacks ;) about the PSP , check out :www.engadget.com . they were able to surf the web , use the IRC chatting , hacked the whole system . i am not telling you to think of hacking the device , but if amateurs did that kind of work , engineers at sony plants are way after that . and the father of the PSP ( ken kutaragi ) san , indicated about a CELLPHONE upgrade for the PSP !!!
my advice is : read about it more and more , check still pictures of games of both PSP and DS . and you'll see for yourself , and if it's possible , go to a shopping mall , and hold the thing . you'll feel how good your 240 $ are well spent on something great .
final verdict :
psp is great .high potential . great value for the money you're paying .

Wow, thanks for that. Some questions for ya -
New Batteries that pump 30% more into it? Where could I get one of those? And if Sony is working on a battery right now - would it be advisable to get a PSP yet or wait for this battery? I heard about the cell phone upgrade for the PSP - but that would mean hardware upgradation - so basically our PSP's would render useless compared to the ones that have the Cell Phone upgrade on them. Still worth buying yet then?
Also, I've heard a lot about the screen getting super scratched etc. What I want to know from you is whether over this period of time (I know its not much but still) you've managed to wear anything out or does it look like anything is gonna wear out? And the screen - still fine?

well . you have to know one thing : there are thousands and thousands of speculations about the future of the PSP , about the companies that will support it , and many more . therefore , the batteries issue is likely to happen . and the sure thing is that Sony r trying their best to come out with a new battery with more juice ( and of course it will be used in old and newer models of the machine )
the screen is protected ( like cellphones LCDs ) with a crystal clear glossy plastic to mantain the least protection for it . you'll suffer a bit from finger stains , but a piece of cloth is the answer . the cleaning process is easy , and the machine again will shine ( unless you're trying to use the PSP while eating a burger :) )
i am no fanatic . i have the first game boy , game advance SP , and now after thousands of researches comparing both: the DS and the PSP i chose the last one . it is better in everything . but the battery life .
later on, i'll try and post some ASTOUNDING comparative pictures of games for both systems , and you'll see the result .
NB : PSP is doing GREAT in japan . and expected to do so at europe . it's upcoming game list is fully loaded .
feel free to ask for anything mate . :)

I've actually stopped thinking of the DS now. I've seen a pic of Ridge Racers on the DS and then I saw it on the PSP and instantly that made my mind :D
That sounds cool, im a game crazy person ill admit that and I imagine that ill be getting one of those crystal boxes for the PSP that are antishock too so the case'll make sure the smudges arent problems. I've also seen the new games coming out at PSP411, I cant wait to play GTA on the PSP.
The only thing im having issues with now is the fact that UMDs arent re-writable and the MSDPro costs a fortune.
Thanks heaps for your help mate, really appreciate it.
PM DUNGA - he's got a PSP. :)
I'm waiting for it to come out in the UK, and I'll buy it hopefully as soon as it does. Won't be waiting in queues though.. not that desperate. :p
I had a PSP and swapped it with a non Voda V800i... I did that so I wouldn't lose value, and don't worry I will buy another one when I have the time to play with it(might purchase it in Dubai in June with loads of games)....

You in Dubai? I lived there for like 10 years...
Anyways, so tell me did you find any problems with it in long term use at all? Or, heck, at saying that, did you find any problems with the thing at all?

i expect sony would do a wise move and make the PSP somehow compatible with it's most anticipated console ever : the PS3 .
the machine is still fresh . developers are anxiously looking at the sales of the device . as i said , it's doing good in Japan .
but for the time , i've purchased a secondary battery , simply because i can't stop playing : Lumines , ridge racer . and it's so compact , that i place it in the pouch , and the back of my console .
if you could , check up the PSP section at the right columns in www.engadget.com
it can tell you about the tweaks of it .

there is also the ability to play a multiplayer game between two PSPs using 1 UMD !!!!
the thing is not a hack . it was an Ad running on japanese TV's . and they showed the game : ( namco museum ) on it .
it's not confirmed yet for all other games ( which i guess it won't work ) but for the developers who intends to do so .

I lived there for ten years as well and I visit Dubai annually, I have nothing to say about the PSP other than its a perfect device and nothing can replace it.... I'm just waiting for my favorite games to launch... :)

You going to get PSP from over there? During DSF? Im not sure I would get it from overseas with all the dead pixel problem going around in the PSP and all...
GT4 is coming out on the PSP!? I won't get it on the PS2 then.

GT4 Mobile - http://www.psp411.com/show/product/23/0/Gran_Turismo_4_Mobile.html
They say its a replica of the actual game. I doubt that, it might not have as many cars or tracks, but still, its GT4 on a portable machine! Thats insane!
i love my psp esp the wifi as if Im using it right now! weee! =P
it took me 5 min to type this word on my psp, above me.
anyway psp is so freaking awesome i love it! i just bought mine today and it cost about $470 CAD aftertax including 1 game and a usb cable.
The screen is freaking amazing its so bright that i have to adjust it to normal level, and the graphic is comparable with ps1 but alot better.
Very solid machine with very nice glossy front.
the only thing i dont like is the battery life.. approx 6 hours but everything is sooooooo nice! =)

I just can't bear to part with my hard earned money that way. I will stick to my old game boy and tetris!
It does look flashy, but I'll wait for them to come down in price. ;-)
Hey guys i read this entire forum posts....Thank you guys for the help. I think im going to wait for the upgraded battery pack for the psp.But make sure if anyone hasnt bought psp that u keep in mind
In the past 2 years we have had nintendo sp nintendo ds and psp
Dont u think microsoft is gona take a shot at this handheld stuff?
Game cube then ds
Playstation 2 then PSP
Xbox then ?
I now read the the European launch of the PSP was been put back yet again to 30 September.
No bad going is it by Sony - March then April then June then August now September. They might just as well come clean and say it won't be out until November or December - just in time for the xmas market.
Maybe Sony should change their name to Motorola

Its been confirmed psp launch date is 1st September and the price will be £179. I think its bit too expensive comapring with nintendo Ds.
Planning to buy PSP from Dubai for dirt cheap and tons of games, or maybe even a 2gb stick to copy games onto it.... I'll let you guys know... :)

may b a stupid Q! but what would u prefer! a PSP or a PS2 ? not the same thing, yea.. handheld VS a full fledged console! a novice to this! so.... hands down! which one ? PSP- handy! PS2... better ? can the PSP compete with PS2 in terms of graphics ?

a2k24, Now I'd rather have the PSP. Because PS2 has already become obsolete. The news of PS3's release today has just made PS2 sales drop to practically nothing here at stores in Auckland.
Get a PSP, then get a PS3, then later go and buy an XBOX 360. Then just sit back and watch the gamer babes suck up to you :D
a2k24, of course ps2 graphic is better. But PSP still ROCKSS!!!! psp graphic is comparable with ps1 but alot more better.
