I think it's a flop... no display, only play songs in shuffle mode or in the order they're on the device...

I agree. I would much rather pay £130 for my DV H10 which has a full colour TFT screen, can take videos, stills, sound files, plays mp3s and has a superbright LED spotlight.

ill just be honest and say:

completely useless! every mp3 player needs a screen. thats why they started putting them on cd players.

Well, I disagree. It has a good price and if you just use it while jogging or in the gym, it's excellent. For the price you get decent audio quality and portable document-file storage. There's definetly a market for this device, although it doesn't live up to Your needs, which are higher than the needs of an average user.

Draqula, I see your point but there are other flash-players out there with a display and the option to play the songs in any way you want - including shuffle mode! I imagne only "apple/ipod" wannabees will get this one...

Shuffle is crap. Just buy a regular flash memory MP3 player for half the price if not less. It has a display and it ain't APPLE

I agree, but i wouldn't mind if it was Apple. I'm a Microsoft user but I can say that I have nothing against Apple.

Although I don't think that shuffle is attractive at all, i think it is possible that it can make the sales really successful. Shuffle is quite cheap, and the design is quite good (except for the huge disappointment of the absence of screen, functionality). But there are many public out there who look for cheap priced mp3 players.-0-

it sells cos it is cheap and cos it is APPLE

everytime i see an ipod shuffle i just wanna go up to the display or the wearer and snap it in half!

If they had put a screen on it i would have gotten it long ago.. but NOOOOO they didnt want..

well im just glad to know that im not the only person who cannot stand such a potentially nice thing

NO OFFENCE APPLE.. i love the new ipod minis :rotate:

The Shuffle will not sell. Not very well anyway.

Apple has designed the Shuffle banking on its superlative design and brand. They believe that it because it's an iPod and looks just as good as any one, it'll fly off the shelves.
But the portable music market is not what is was five years ago. The iPod is no longer the only good-looking and easy-to-use MP3 player available. There are now players that look just as good with displays and other features, for the same price.

The only real market I can see the Shuffle appealing to is existing iPod owners who don't want to carry their hard disk player everywhere. But even then, an MP3-capable phone would do the job just as well, with a screen.

Apple is almost like Nokia.
It took some years for them to build up a good reputation with good products which were far better than any other similiar products during its glory days. They believe their fans around the wolrd will buy everything they produce just because of its brand value. They realize they are a bit behind in terms of technology compared to other companies and therefore they produce Shuffle which distinguish from the rest with no display and plain look. Just like Nokia, they gave us Piccaso phones with no special contents. Some people like his paints but most of us just find them awkward, at least I do.

Not really very attractive to me. But it will sell because of the name iPod and it's from Apple :)

Most probably for the young and fashion consious.

Ipod shuffle is good, great value for money, BUT the only thing that lacks is the fat of no LCD, otherwise it'd sell like hotcakes :D

afroman, going for an iPod mini is pointless. You might aswell get 20GB iPod. The 4GB minis are £180, when the 20GB iPods are £210, it's worth shedding out the extra £30 even if you don't use more than 4GB! :)

I think the shuffle is very poorly made and feels extremely plasticky and cheap.

It will do well cos its "an ipod". The lack of a lcd screen is a major letdown, no doubt the next update ipod shuffle 2 perhaps will address this matter.

£99 for a gig seems ok but with the ipod mini selling for £28 more, suddenly it doesnt seem that good a value

Looks like you were wrong! Selling very well, at least here in the US.

selling well or not does not change the fact that it is absolutely rubbish. :)

don't u see that ur just bashing around without any arguments? (yes the lacking screen is an argument but it's the only thing u mentioned) That some of u are not grownups is pretty obvious but at least try to pretend to be adult in the way u argue...

Starting an argument is hardly the chracteristics of a mature adult.

Why do we have to "pretend" to argue as adults? We are what we are. So what if we are not "grownups", unless this thread states "grownups" comments only, there is nothing wrong with anybody post here in this thread. If you are going to judge someone's opinion because of their age - that is hardly acting like an adult.

Yes, the lack of a screen might be the only thing we have mentioned - because it is a major issue. The fact that this is combined with shuffle play only makes it worse since it makes it even harder to indentify songs that are being played. Its only selling because of the fact its made by Apple. They are simply using their brand image gained from the HDD Ipods to boost the sales of the shuffle. Take away the logo, the white headphones and rename... it turns out to be absolutely nothing.

mindscud,
well, obviously I could have elaborated on my opinion,I just thought it was clear that I agreed with the things being said before...And that has nothing to do with being grownups or not...It's rather strange to judge one's opinion on the base of his age... :eyes:

Anyway, now to my reasons... ;) (which frankly have mostly been mentioned before)

1) IMO it doesn't look very nice,in addition to this it rather feels strange, not that worthy (can't think of a better word),feels to cheap to be that kind of "hi-tech" toy Apple suggests it is... (when you're holding it in your hand->played with one at the Apple Store in London)

2)Following up on point one above,I feel the assemble quality not being one of the strong points in this model,as opposed to other iPod models,i.e. the minis,4G,Photo... (the one I've used felt rather "plasticky" as someone pointed out before)

3)As mentioned before, the lack of a screen is a major issue...

4)It's often impossible to use the bigger ones together with other USB devices connected to one laptop, due to the fact that the USB connector is to wide, and so it won't fit next to another USB device...

5)and I hope Mowbli allows me to quote him.... Its only selling because of the fact its made by Apple. They are simply using their brand image gained from the HDD Ipods to boost the sales of the shuffle. Take away the logo, the white headphones and rename... It would be called ugly, bad value for money, bad built quality and a joke when compared to the mini iPod for example...
But because it's an Apple it's cool and stylish and you got to have one, even though you only need to pay a little more to get the proper mini iPod or the nice H10 by iRiver...
Personally,I'm not buying anything because it's from a particular brand,I'm buying it because I like it or need it,so I'm not exactly a mindless sheep (in terms of being receptive to target advertising à la iPod shuffle) that follows only the hype...
If it suits one's need then he/she should go and buy it,but I'd never recommend it to anyone, because IMO it's not nearly as good a product as the iPod mini or the others...You can get a lot of other flash players for less money, they might not be white and have cool packaging, but the value for money is certainly better than with the shuffle...

Please don't get me wrong!
I wansn't trying to say that ur a bunch of kiddies. What made me wrote the post obove was the simple fact that u were not arguing but bashing. IMO the ipod shuffle has some positive aspects such as its size weight and good sound quality. The ipod shuffle is meant to be used in shuffle mode so if u don't like this feature u don't need to buy it. IMO it's nice to have my favourite GB of music in my pocket and shuffle through it while sitting in the tram. BTW the ipod shuffle had been faked have a look here (http://www.mac360.com/index.php/mac360/more/warning_ipod_shuffle_clone_debuts_at_show/)

mindscud,
yeah,no worries, just wanted to present my thoughts as well... ;)
I agree it's nice for those who just want one GB of their favourite music with them, but IMO there are better alternatives (i.e. the SE W800 :D)... :)

Regarding the fakes, well there'll always be fakes when someone does sth extraordinary well, hence a lot of fakes for Apple's music player,BUT I don't want to know how the fake iPod shuffle feels when holding it in one's hand... ;)

The ipod shuffle is about 5 years behind time. Remember the Creative Labs Muvo of the previous millenium. If you think this is not true see the Flash Mp3 Players (http://www.flashmp3players.net/) website and compare the ipod shitpile oops shuffle to the likes of iriver mp3 players (http://www.flashmp3players.net/) and other fresh brands like hanbit xdrum (http://www.flashmp3players.net/). You will see what I am going on about.
