im looking to get an mp3 player... which of those two do you think i should take? i think the price of the creative is extremely good (£153), but having not listened or played with one, i don't know which to go for? i'm not worried about size.
any suggestions?
I like my Ipod alot and wouldn't want to change it... :)

Is ipod the best MP3 player around?
Get the Sony NW-HD1 20GB Hard Disk Walkman.
Absolutely Brilliant...IMO!
Slimmest around and 30 hours Battery Life! lol

Sony NW-HD3
Key Features of the NW-HD3:
ATRAC3plus and MP3 playback compatible
Over 30 hours of playback time (In ATRAC3plus 48kbps mode)
G-Sensor *
20GB HDD = 13,000 tracks(900CDs) (Calculated on the basis of 4 minutes per song and using ATRAC3plus 48kbps)
4 color variations (Silver/ Black/ Pink / Red)
Aluminium body
Headphones and AC adaptor supplied
USB cable supplied
USB adaptor supplied
G-Sensor :
G-Sensor technology monitors and calculates the gravitational velocity of NW-HD3 in its three dimensions (height, width and depth); the sensor device clears the recording head away from the hard disc when the unit receives physical impact during operation. As a result, recorded content is protected by preventing the recording head from potentially scratching the hard disc surface !!! :)

yes, which comes to my second point which i forgot to mention- the price. i think the creatives price is exceptional for 20gb's, the sony is something special- i know, but is out of my price range. i am willing to ait a few weeks, i presume the price for any of them wouldn't drop significantley? thanks for your replys :)
Sony NW-HD3 - thats the same as the Sony NW-HD1 with a little bit of difference in the exterior. the HD1 is cheaper now and there will be a firmware upgrade for it to support native MP3!
They are very similar! :)

Take a look at this wonder!!http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/photo_gallery/0,39034081,39197523,00.htm
IMO I wouldnt advise the Zen Touch as its a copy of the Ipod and the touch strip doesnt work as well.. Get the Ipod BUT theres a lot more choice out there! :)

I heard that nowdayz Ipods are equipped with sensor buttons? Means you just tap it and it will function!:rotate:

yeah i've read some reviews with owners complainging about the touch strip, most of which got used to it, but wether i would is questionable :eyes:
i think im going to wait a till next week and buy the zen touch :rotate:
thanks everyone!
I have the Sony Vaio VGF-AP1 and I love it!
I have the Sony Vaio VGF-AP1 and I love it!
lol - i know what you mean, my cradle blows me away....lol... easily pleased? Maybe! :)
Ipod is superbly stylish and extremely simple to use the battery lifes a bit of a drag
My brothers got a zen touch and its a lot louder than ipod (sound quality is poor tho) its big and touch strip takes time to get used to.
I agree with that. The Zen is seriously not as polished as the Ipod and it doesnt rival it very well. Sure it may be cheap but other MP3 players are much better. My Sony NW-HD1 for example....lol :)
Mowbli, congrats on your buy, didn't know you already got it :)
lol - thanks its AMAZING...:)
but your Vaio isnt bad either...!!!
i have to fill up 20GB with SonicStage....!!! ouch...
Congrats Mowbli, hope you are enjoying your new toy. Is SonicStage really that bad? I have it on my computer becuase its a Sony, but have not really used it.
yeah - it came with my PC too, but i ve upgraded it to version 2.3, its not bad as such its just that Sony uses the ATTRAC format which is suppose to have a smaller size yet superior sound quality to that of MP3 and uses less battery power. Problem is that my collection is MP3, and there s a bit of time needed in the converting. Nevertheless if you started ripping your CDs as ATTRAC theres no problem.
Its takes a bit of time...IMO but damn is it worth it! You can put more stuff on it and the device looks really neat, cant beat a Sony design... and its not a creative, not an iriver...but a SONY WALKMAN..creator of the Walkman 25 years ago..its the Original...lol..forgive my bias... :)

Very true. Well, enjoy and make sure you let us know how good it really is. Also, what is the normal size of the ATTRAC files, is it like the WMA files for windows?
well - manage to take some pictures of it: :) Compared it with my NetMD... :)
lol :)
iron_mike010
24-01-2005, 20:20
what kind of cam did you use?
:)
Mowbli, atrac is better than the regular mp3. better quality and smaller files. it takes alot of time the 1st transfer because you have to transfer like 2000-3000 songs...
yeah..Atrac is good :)
lol - i used my Sony Cybershot at VGA, no flash as its too shiny..lol... I think that beats my GX30 at 1mpx IMO..lol :)
well - manage to take some pictures of it: :) Compared it with my NetMD... :)
lol :)
That is a sweet little device. If these things werent so damned expensive and I would actually use one more, then I wouldnt hesitate to picking one up. I just cant seem to justify the money on one though because I dont listent to them that much, thats why I would rather just have a decent Mp3 player on my phone.
Mowbli, thanks for those pics. But I believe your netMD is one of the thinner MDs out there, right?
Anyway, the Sony is looking smooth. Does play normal mp3 files as well? My dad is thinking about getting one, but he's more in to the Ipod Mini right now... thought I'd try to get him to buy this so that I can test it out :D
Well it doesnt play mp3 natively but it is supported via SonicStage. However check http://esupport.sony.com/perl/news-item.pl?template=EN&mdl_id=1791&news_id=63 firmware update soon.
Well the MD is one of those thinner ones but i dont think its the thinnest out there.
I got some pictures if you want some size comparisions.
 :)
hmm - completely encoded it at 256kbs ATTRAC3PLUS, battery compromised....but :)
It looks really smooth Mowbli... what did you pay for it?
Its RRP is £299 but i managed to pick it up with a huge discount - which isnt available anymore! hehe ! :)
its probably around £250 or a bit lower :)
Alright, I think I saw it an newspaper ad yesterday... it was about £225!
Considering the Ipod is like £229, i guess Sony has to be competitve!
lol - IMO its better as its not as common as the Ipod but its a Sony! :)
and the cradle rules! :)
hehe, we'll see what he gets - if he gets one! Is one of those ppl who just like browsing around wishing he had one. Last month it was a LCD TV, now it's an mp3 player and tomorrow it might be a new phone or a PDA etc :D
lol... do you have an Ipod? i remember you saying something about it....
:)
Yepp, I bought an 20GB U2 special edition on ebay just before christmas... I love the click-cheel and the UI, it's so simple but still lets you control all the goodies ;)
also, I like the fact that it's black... not many of these on the streets here in Sweden ;)
U2 special edition? lol...thats neat..bet it was pretty expensive! :)
not that... like a Ipod Mini was here in Sweden at the time... around £250!
U2 version, it's black with a red click wheel and the bands autographs ingraved on the back... :D
U2 version, it's black with a red click wheel and the bands autographs ingraved on the back...
sounds really nice to me... ingraved autographs...nice touch.! :)
have you seen the Ipod flash players? hehe :)
My beauty!!
http://images.apple.com/ipod/u2/images/indexfrontbackse10262004.jpg
yeah, the new ipod shuffle is really bad!! no display and can only play songs in shuffle mode or the order they were transffered in...
lol - that is a real cool device! the autographs!!!! lol
Ipod shuffle? that sucks...but it still gonna sell i think!
Yeah, probably because of the white color, the miniversion of the click-wheel and the apple logo! ;) There are so many flash-units out there that are better and probably cheaper...

the coolest thing about the u2 ipod is the music!!
dont you get every single album thy ever made on it?
Didn't like the red/black one, loses the touch, the classy look of the ipod imo :|

Congrats on 3000 Karim. I just cant seem to really draw myself to like the Ipod's, I think it has something to do with just about everyone having one. I saw a Phillips one that was glossy black the other day and that was a nice looking device. I dont know how good the Phillips players are though.
I have the Sony Vaio one and it's quite nice

that aint shit!
my brother needed a usb stick for schoolwork.

;)
well done Karim! 3000 posts...arent you an expert yet?
yeah 256mb is too low....you can forget about music quality too..lol
Mowbli, 3500 for expert ;) But I'm already an expert   j/k :)
Karim, congrats mate!! Well done :D
iron_mike010, you dont get all of their albums on the player when you buy it. You get a $50 off on Itunes if you buy them all there... Doesn't matter that much since I already got all of their albums! ;)
odelsteken, congrats on the S700 :)
odelsteken, hehe..enjoying the S700? :)
so far yes, but the speaker is a bit annoying though... since it's located next to the camerashutter it tends to vibrate when it rings... :-/

i don't recomment sony because of their own unique format. You need to convert the files into atrac before sending it. I prefer mp3 players which has ogg functionality with it. OGG is a format which has better quality than mp3. (I prefer iriver, yepp over ipod)
BTW, I think that pmp is quite good in this case. I am using samsung digital-square istation pmp player. it has a touch screen with QVGA resolution. It has 20GB and it is around the size of ipod. It plays mp3 of course, and it plays mpeg, divx, and so on. It has
sunystory@hotmail.com, software converts mp3 into ATRACplus before sending the songs. and itunes is so slow that it gives the same result as transfering them to an ipod :)
itunes is so slow
not that slow... also, your Ipod will appear as a disk drive so you dont have to use Itunes if you dont want to!
odelsteken, I wouldn't mess with the iPod_Control folder ;)

Well, I think the standard price of it is around £200 in the UK, definately worth the money though. :)

actually I find the iPod looks a bit like FisherPrice toys,no edges, nothing,a bit boring...Still like it though... :) But it's abit expensive for what you get, even compared to an iRiver... ;)
I find it nowadays many companies produce multimedia devices.
Like what sunystory@hotmail.com show the Samsung Digital Square I-station pmp-1000 which is really cool.
Maybe one day multimedia devices can replace PDA.
ilprincipe, I think iPod is expensive becoz of its name & logo.
I want an MP3 player with MPEG support on a QVGA screen

Mowbli, sell the damn T610 already ;)
Who would actually buy the T610? i d imagine the Postage would cost more than it... lol
Nokia 6630 - £400++ SIM FREE... :rotate:
Anyway..nokia 6630 :) neat....
Whats one of the better headphones to use with a MP3 player? i m looking at some Sennheiser inear headphones, i heard some good stuff about it - wha do you guys use?

sennheiser are great (mx300 for example or upwards of course ;))
Ghibli, that looks real nice - but again i d imagine its not in Europe again. Asia only i suspect?
Actually I think there's a high chance it'll come to Europe.
I know it'll be available in Singapore for about US$250, and our market is more similar to Europe's than to Japan's, so what comes here usually gets to Europe too.:)
That Samsung square player looks classy :D.
I use Sony MDRJ10 in ear earphones (they have a nice little hook which goes over your ears which stop them from falling off, plus they use neodyium magnets for better sound quality)
Quite cheap too - here (http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=3151&productId=127430&clickfrom=name)
Reguards,
Ben

Uses less power from the amp to achieve higher volume level!! PS Its a measure of electrical resistance. :D

sunystory@hotmail.com,
looks really cute... :)
Too small for me though,might lose it... :D (if I don't carry it around on a necklace...hehe ;) )
I have become tired of iPods and sold off my 20gig 3G iPod. This has been replaced with the lovely red colour Sony NW HD3 which was only £220 at Empire Direct. This is now perfectly matched up with my Sony EX71 Fontopia phones.
I think the sound quality of the HD3 has the edge over the iPod. The only gripe I have is the same one with the Euro iPod and that is the volume is not loud enough. The workaround with the iPod was to use euPOD 3rd party software. The Sony could do with something similar.
The problem with Sonicstage software is the lack of instruction on how to use it. Once you have experimented using trial and error you realise that it really straightforward to manage the music files on the HD3.
The soft furry case with the NW3 is a waste of time and useless. Better to get the Sony optional hard case for the NW1 which is perfect as well for the NW3.
This is something I'd love to get, the Olympus MR-100 m:robe.

I got some Sennheiser MX500s and aome Sony EX71s at the same time, the Sony's pwn the Sennheisers.
The Sonys completely closed which means the there is virtually no background noise so sound is clear and full, and you don't need them as loud.
The Sennheisers were ok, not as comfortable and open backed. The only down point to the Sonys is that they are made for units for in line remotes so the wire is very short, there is an extension included but it's really long, so you have loads of extra wire... but it's not that bad :)
Also, the Touch is hard to use, and doesn;t fell as well built as the iPod. It's worth paying more. The HD1 and HD3 are brilliant :D
£179 for the iPod mini with 4GB so it's not that bad...;)
The HD1 is still only £150
Im considering getting one (if they have stock)
The problem is that I am NOT a computer genius so I may not be able to convert MP3 to Atrac3. And Ive heard sonicstage2.1 is buggy!
sidneylopsides, MX500, are they the funny blue ones?
jontyf, £150? Argos i presume? Well they are all out. And Sonicstage 2.3 is the latest, its easy converting to atrac3 - just the waiting.
Thanks, Ill keep that in mind.
I will probabley get a Zen touch instead. :)

m:robe looks neat!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Hi,
I own an iPod v4 20Gb since christmas :) Great product for most of people but definitively not for geeks. This product currently misses a lot of integrated features such integrated FM radio, direct voice recording, integrated playlists editor, poor screen (OLED better so far..), etc.
I some countries you can get a Samsung Yep or something like for same price.

Pierre,
try buying an iTalk. it could make your iPod a recorder and a loudspeaker for music. not very loud tho.
patrick_san460, I know this accessory but I would prefer it integrated. Anyway, I recently tested a ITrip and another 3rd party accessory for the car too. Awesome.. you can spread music to other car through the FM radio when you are in a traffic jam! This workswith the FM radio of the bus too.. :D

19-02-2005, 17:57
Pierre,
lol.. you're crazy.. never tried it in traffic.. haha.. but i use it at home cos i dont have an in-motion accessory. i've heard bad things with it. i'll try it in traffic next time.. :p
patrick_san460,
Then you should try the iRock. This device works at 20 meters when you are in your car
patrick_san460
19-02-2005, 18:14
no. can't. my father bought me an iPod and the iTalk so that i could use it for recording lessons when i'm at school. and the iPodcame with a FREE iTrip. ;)
how many meters can the iTrip work anyway?
patrick_san460,
Only at home.. 10 meters in some case. Not enough powerful for the car. The song gets some noise.. But the iRock I tested rocks! I can show you more pics of the iRock next week. I'm getting in hand on Sunday again :)
patrick_san460, so you record classes with your Ipod. How's the quality and how loud is the recording?

hey! after looking at all the 20gb players and that i realized i don't need that much memory. so i ordered this, its coming monday :rotate: it's 1.5gb i got it from www.advancedmp3players.co.uk .

odelsteken,
the recording's fine.. cos i often sit at the front row.. cos sometimes the mic catches noise from my classmates.. but it's a good accessory if you ask me. ;) and about the loudspeaker feature? don't try using it.. the voice is too soft.. and when you play mellow songs like "laundromat" by nivea or "if i ain't got you" by alicia keys, it's better to put the headphones back. well, first of all, the loudspeaker is for the recording playback only.. :)
snowboarder_boi,
nice mp3 player.. :) reminds me of samsung in some way.. :p
Pierre,
okay... thanks for the info.. i'll ask my mom if she could give me one.. [the iRock]

i like senn, but i prefer Grado. Grado headphones are a bit too big, not so convenient, but excellent quality. With a 100$ of purchase of Grado SR series, I think it competes with those in the 1000$. The only drawback (perhaps very critical) is that it's not so convenient and comfortable. I also like cresyn, and in fact recent iriver and istation models are equiped with these ear phones:)
Generally, I don't like ipod products, because they don't support higher quality music formats like ogg(iriver, istation, ...), or atrac (sony). I like their design though, pure white color, and simple looking! However, if I were to make a decision between zen and ipod, i would definitely pick ipod.
snowboarder_boi, Congrats! :)

well, i got it earlier today and i love it! it's so small and light. from the side it reminds me of a t610! i havn't experimented with it much yet, but i'm very pleased with it! i can't comment on the battery life yet as i havn't used it long enough. i'll get some pics on here as soon as i find my bluetooth dongle.
cheers, joe

you know what I think of the iRiver h10....
Its way overpriced for 5gb, here its as much as a 20gb iPod at $379.99cnd
yeah, thats what I said, so think about it
Hi all, I saw that you showed interest for the Olympus MR-100. I've got it since a month (before I had the iPod mini) and I think it's a good player just for listening to mp3/wma and nothing else (excellent sound quality), the interface is also quite intuitive and the red backlight is fantastic... but there aren't any special features beside the "lyric" function.

so now wat do u think i should buy??... zen microphoto or ipod nano??? help me out guys
snowboarder_boi, what did you think about the service of AMP3? I was worried when I got my MP3 player from them a few years back because I hadn't heard of them, but I was pleasantly surprised - very fast delivery, and reasonble prices.
M Vision is fat, Ipod Vid has weak battery.
just wait for the 2nd generation of ipod.. the battery-life will increase. just like ipod mini 2nd gen.
