I have some suggestions, but I think they've already been said between us mods!
I'll tell them anyway... :D
- a special thread for questions like " which phone to get"

- a restriction to post in that thread... not sure in what way, but lets say you have to have made 30 posts before being able to publish there etc. The downside is the fact that some users might make 30 useless posts only to get there?!

- new titles, like the ones in the thread created by BrightSpark...

- maybe activate the reputation meter depending on ones knowledge about a certain brand?

- bigger avatars?

Only one?...
Think i´d go for 101x80 size avatars then.

TRicks.

Problem with knowledge/reputation meter is that it has the potential to trigger endless debates about things there are no clear cut answers to.
I mean, it´s no problem if someone would ask about, say how much the K700i weighs ;) But anything the least bit subjective, and you are going to face long winded opinion exchanges, hard to distinguish facts from opinions..
Very hard to announce a "winner" in those cases..
Maybe if you make it a rule that to be titled expert, you first have to actually own the phone in question, that would be a good idea since there are too many opinion vendors here.. God knows that sometimes i am one of them, though i do try to make sure i speak out of my correct end first ;)

I've been following this forum a while now cause I'm still hesitating with my choice for my next mobile
:eyes:
I suggest to catigorise the subjects more like u said odelsteken but not just which to buy but also probs, reviews, previews... etc so it would be easier to find what 1 is looking for :)
other than that I'm very pleased with this forum :)
In case u r interested my mind is stuck with the 6630 these days after being convinced with the 6230 for a long time ;)

"This is my opinion I shouldn't even need to state it, people should already know the style of an opinion statement.." I hope you can take your time to read it.

Well,
what is high post count? it clearly just shows that you are older member, not more powerful or more authority or more privilages..
I really respect those who has not more than a thousand post with 90% of all their posts being beneficial to others, of course you can rule out defending a point for others and pleasing the one on your side, this is not considered beneficial to majority.

Back to the efficient forum user/
This user will show that he has been spending his time wisely in the forums not compromising qualitative posts.

"This is my opinion too if you don't already know"
I think that an hour or two in the forums "1/2 hours in the day and 1/2 hours in the night" is sufficient enough to be really useful-helpful in the forums. Lets say that on average, a new post will appear within 2 minutes in all the forums combined, you do the math and calculate by 2 hours roughly how many will have already been posted and answered by the 'user' in the afternoon, it will surely not be 60 over posts but atleast it will be alot. By nightfall, he can check back for another 2 hours and continue to reply back to the various posts without babbling e.g. I had sucessfully changed the E680's theme by means of:...fill.......:and the theme look so stupid I tell you, it look as suck as:...fill.....: It would be better to state just the result and how you do it without adding anymore "useless to others statements"
Use EldarMutarzin as a good example, I have searched all post from this owner and I can say it's near 100% qualitative posts, say example he encountered a post that sounds silly, he will not just say "This is a stupidest comparison that I ever come across in my entire life" "Go and get yourself a life etc" Instead wise people like him will know how to answer the post without being bias or saying this is 'suck' and that. How not to respect?
I'm already trying to answer posts in the general forum in a useful manner, not "bang" "dish" "Don't you have a brain? etc" I'm not picking on any user, all this are only examples for you to observe.

It's always better to have quality than quantity-abundance-.

To contribute to this thread, I would like suggesting links to various populer phone specification comparisons so that users need not flame each other about which is better. He or she can click on the comparison chart.

IMHO I think that it should be a technical data section, were we could store, (only 1 post per fone) all specification, firmware, special software, release dates, etc. all useful technical information about that fone easy to find in the fist post.
Only mod could create new threads but all users could reply.
It would be edited depending on new gathered info.
I know that are other sites, with that same sort of database, but most of them don?t have all information, as most are not updated.
Hope u take it under consideration

Possibly sth like odelsteken and a few others said about a reputation meter...If someone helped another guy, then the person can (if he wants to) leave a positive feedback or give him a vote or sth. like that... :)

BrightSpark
29-01-2005, 02:13
ilprincipe
i don't think that would work :). people would be either giving the people who they get on with a reputation point (whether they helped them or not) AND/OR giving a minus point to the people who they don't get on with (just because they like a brand that the other person doesn't etc).

BrightSpark,
yeah, actually you could be right... :(

I always believe in the good of the people and especially in their objectiveness here in the forum...Silly me...

I like to be objective so that I can help out the members and friends by providing them with objective infos example with a link or two to let them self decide.
I won't like to miss lead people when it comes to helping by saying aloud my feelings towards a particuler brand or something, I would give them objective info:)

ilprincipe
29-01-2005, 13:55
Sector7 R&D personal,
that's great... :) Unfortunately not everybody thinks like this...One can not be objective in EVERY post, and it's good to make the occasional joke about other phones,etc... but that's different from people saying "x sucks", "no y sucks you idiot".... :D
One can be criticizing sth in a funny way or you can use swearing/no facts...And that's the problem IMO... ;)
