Indeed other company's makes cheaper ones, but never forget the real inventor of a product. Apple created this device, Apple invented it, and now others are selling the same thing in another shell for less money... A shame...
I would rather get a Sony drive player...
I think the guy has too much time. But I kind of agree. My M3 20GB was cheaper, and it supports more file types, and it has an FM Radio, and it has a better battery life, and it's slightly smaller and lighter, and it has a remote with an LCD.
I'm glad I didn't buy an iPod.

When I bought my iPod there was nothing on the market which compared to it. And as I am constantly informed by every magazine review and online review, it is still the best. People need to stop the whole "They suck, if you buy one you are an attention whore." Great, if you dont like them, just buy something else and STFU. Nobody needs to hear it.
The funniest thing about that whole site is that every argument is totally pointless. His arguments are not anti-iPod but anti-MP3 player, but he is so lacking in mental ability that he obviously hasn't realised. By his logic, he should stick to vinal.
I'd also like to point out: The guy who made that website is a total attention seeker. It's a complete ripoff of Maddox site, and even Maddox is viewed (by everyone I have spoken too) as an attention seeker anyway, but at least he is funny. This guy is just a moron.

Another really good brand that I hear alot about here in Moscow is IRiver. They are nice and compacted. Not alot of high storage capacity devices, but are suppose to have very crisp and clear sound.
iRiver do have hard disk models too and they are actually quite similarl priced as the ipod but apparently the quality and functions ae much higher! :)
mp3 players (upto 1 GB of storage) r a lot smaller than iPods and u cud always delete and add new songs when u wish!!!

i think ipods are attractive because of their premium design. I actually don't think that 4G Ipod caught up Iriver 3D extreme+ in terms of sound quality yet. I am not against ipod lovers anyway, because i also had bought one before:) design is another critical decision factor in Mp3 players

Well, if people are so anxious about Hard disc players, there are actually numerous players outside which has equivalent storage memory. If people are so addicted to apple's touchped, i think that iriver H10 will beat ipod mini easily. It's cheaper, better functions, same storage memory, and also has a touchped.

I can afford an ipod but i also believe they are merely a status symbol. Anything that u can get for cheaper (and probably better) in some other device is obviously being sold on it percieved image.
How many people u seen always pulling out there ipods in busy public areas to show off how "cool" they are.
And the argument that phones are the same is only true in some (see above definition) only really the RAZR and SLVR are status symbols (functions dont justify the price and u dont need a phone that thin unless ur that weak).
I buy my phone (and my MP3 player) based solely upon functions, not what other people would think of it.
By the way that red and silver iRiver does seem pretty cool and would go with my red and silver Z1010 lol :2jump:

There will be 10 and 20 GB versions of the H10 (other names) in a few months...
Other than that I can only recommend the H3xx series with either 20 or 40 GB storage...It might not have the looks for some but it sure got the brains and the price is right (compared to iPod).... :)

Ah, it competes with the mini...
I actually find iPod quite ugly in real life. I know people who own it, and to be honest, I think its the most scratch prone thing I've ever come across. However, people walking down the street DO pull it out and show off, and others who look at em go "OMG is that an iPod? Cool! Wow! I wanna be your friend!"...well...maybe not the last part...but you know what I mean...
And that saddens me. And also, I worked for Apple (development center, completely different from the iPod side) sometime back and there were rumours that the iPod's first six batches made for the Asia-Pacific market were all sent to New Zealand. And all of them had faulty batteries. That explains why it runs for only 5 hours compared to its alleged "8-12 hours battery life" .
iRiver looks good. I might get the high capacity models. Not yet though. First I wanna see if there's any good mobile being released with a large enough hard drive to store my whole PC on. Or...atleast 20 GB ;)

Not really, it can be replaced by the user, if you're carefull... There's a guide somewhere here about it!
actually, the ipod mini is only 4gb not 5gb, and not all of that 5gb is available for use. in the 20gb g4 ipod, of the 20gb claimed, only 18.5gb is available to the user
Thats with all HDD based players. Once the disk has been formatted some space will be lost - software etc.
My 40GB VAIO Pocket on has approx between 37-38GB rather than 40GB.

btw, you can see how small this is, by comparing the size of the ear phone
i wouldn't say it's tremendously mini, but certainly it is smaller than it looks like. this one, of course, has FM tuner inside, records FM, record voice as well. The speaker is 100mW, pretty strong one. the play time battery is 20 hours, resonable long.

Iaudio G3 is priced at 300$ for 2G flash memory
and M-bird mp3 player is priced at 450$. Normally the export versions are much cheaper than in the home country. (Don't know why...)
but anyways, i believe that G3 is in Europe, Asia, and North America.
As for the M-Bird, they only produce small quantity of mp3 players to keep it valuable.
If you look at the M-bird mp3 player, it looks very special (something like a motorcycle).
btw, M-Bird is the one with internal speakers.

but for now apple has the biggest so ill stick with them.

klankymen, I don't think that's true. At this moment, we have upto 40GB HD drive type mp3 players in almost every brand including apple ipod. I think Ipod is more popular because of its marketing, and appealing design. In terms of sound quality, I find almost every ipods with significant White Noise. In addition, lack of ogg is a big disadvantage. Although they have AAC, it doesn't compete with ogg. I think LAMEMP3 format is better than AAC. Many other companies are ready to release 60~80GB hard drive type. I don't think that the size of the hard drive is a significant factor in choosing ipods. The simple friendly user UI, and simple design are the appealing factors compared to other more sophisticated devices from iriver (IMO)

I received the iriver N10. I will prepare the review. I can't believe a small mp3 like this can create this kind of sound. The ear phone used was the bundle, which is actually a 70$ value from Cresyn Hammer series. The sound quality was even better than my Kenwood MD player NH-10 (I think it's because of the good matching of the earphone.)

that guy just made that opinion so that somehow, he could get a free one from apple so that he could stop criticizing their product.
I needed a new mp3 player, and averybody from my class has it, and I thought about it, and looked at some other mp3 player, and I decided to buy the iRiver H10 20 GB, cos it´s cheaper than the iPod, and has a lot more to offer you. I read that "letter", or what you can call it, and really saw what the iPod was. So I just wanted to say, that I am glad I didn´t buy an iPod! :)
