I believe that the real advances in digicam technology are being made in the prosumer market!! time was when all the advances were made in the SLR field and then filtered through into (lesser devices) now its the other way round. SLR technology lags behind the prosumer market because it takes maybe two years to introduce a new SLR where as prosumer digicams tend to be updated every six months with all the latest technology incorperated!!.

mweb6161, I am abit confused. What is your definition of prosumer market? Are you talking about cameras like Sony F828, or DSLR lines like 300D? These two are such a distinct category. I don't think Sony F828 catches attention in the prosumer markets. Prosumers considers picturing seriously. Just the difference between prosumer market and SLR market (film) is that prosumers(i would call amature market) prefer digital convenience, but the real pros who own their own working place, they prefer SLR. SLR is really at its peak, and really nothing more can be done. This is why some pros even by 10 year old camera, still get the highest quality. Another aspect of pro market( different from prosumer market) is that they prefer medium format camera. I think that DSLR is developed very fast, Pentax released istD and newly showed istDs with very short period. I don't think high end cameras can compete against the low end DSLR camera. And that I could be sure, because I own both cameras.

SLR and DSLR are also distinct market, btw.

OK sunystory what i mean is non pro non slr models such as 828 (poor example) First things first i totally agree that ultimate image quality is best served by an SLR or medium format device only an idiot would disagree that :D what i am suggesting is that in terms of technological advancement and feature innovation the high end non SLR models are now the cutting edge!! :)
