Just got GX30 as well. (pics) (review to follow)
Hey guys.
Just got the GX30 from the local vodafone store (in London). A call in the morning confirmed its release (actually made early from friday to today). As I arrived at the store they didnt even have it in display and apparantly were delivered 30minutes before. It was an Expensive ?282 purchase as an upgrade and it is now sitting on my desk being recharged. Once that sharp light goes off, i'll play around with it and give you a review of it. until now, enjoy some pics i took. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

gotta say that I think the GX20 looks better both internally and externally. Just out of interest where was the vodafone store? i haven't seen any GX30 ads in my local one. And what tariff aere you on? Does the monthly price of your tariff affect the price of the upgrade?

Nice pics
Great photos! Its nice to see the comparison. Personal taste I guess but I think the GX30 looks FAR BETTER than the GX20. I get mine on Wednesday direct from Vodafone, can't use it til Monday though as my number is being ported. I've got the GX22 at the moment and I love it.
When you review it please let us know if you can set reminders for the calandar and if the predictive text remembers words, 2 annoying things about the GX20/22 Please post some photos taken with it as soon as you can, would be great to see a comparison with ones taken with the GX20. Thanks |

My impressions:
Looks: I didnt buy this phone because it was particularily pretty. I thought it was okay looking and that its features overwhelmed the reasoning behind this purchase. Yet, in person it grew on me that it's quite simplistic and elegant - perhaps due to the increased use of chrome. Clamshell closed Clamshell open The Screen: Its probably the best screen in the market. Its very similar to the Screen of the GX20, except it comes with 256K colors instead of 56k. The difference is very subtle but the new screen is more vivid and warmer. The exterior screen is longer than the one from the GX20. main screen exterior screen The Menu: The menu is pretty much identical to the GX20's. Basically not very pretty but hey it does the job. There are a couple of new setup screens for the new features such as bluetooth and MP3 player. The Camera: The much-talked about camera making history by breaking the 1megapixel barrier on a GSM phone. I'm afraid i could not take any outdoor pics today, but i will. Some new options are the ability to change the shutter speed from normal to slow or fast. The light is pretty much equal to the GX20, maybe slightly brighter. The lense and Speaker Camera Screen The Camera Menu Video capturing ability is slightly more flexible since it lets u record upto 400k which is much more than what the GX20 allowed. Low light shot macro shot The Speaker: The new speaker, placed next to the lense, is loud and emits quality sound. It goes nicely with the new MP3 Support and allows for louder higher quality ring tones. mp3 player Screen The SD slot: The cover for the SD slot is quite handy and the cover is easily removable. the SD slot Bluetooth - can only be used with headsets and car kits which is alright for me because i have a card reader and an IR port on my computer. the bluetooth screen To conclude: This phone is without doubt awesome. In terms of its features and hardware, its probably months ahead of anything else in the market. This phone reminds me of phones I used in Japan, its not quite there but its getting there. As an ex-GX20 owner, it feels like this phone is an "update" of it. The GX-30 single handedly remedied the flaws of the GX20 - the lack of bluetooth, adequate storage capacity and the megapixel camera. The only downside to this phone is the fact that its vodafoned meaning its got a voda badge and menu which limits its software flexibility to an extent. But this phone was well worth my money and i will be buying a larger SD card and a bluetooth headset very shortly. Clamshell closed Last edited by revaddict; 08-03-2004 at 22:22.. |

The phone holds over 200 SMS. You cannot save them to SD card, but you can back them up with the software on the CD. The external screen shows a wallpaper/animation. You can leave it as the wallpaper, or you can lay 3 styles of digital clock and 3 styles of analogue clock on top of this. You can have the battery aerial icons on or off as well. For sample shots, look here. |

Does it come with a cable to transfer mp3 from PC to gx30? How do you send mp3 files to the phone?
Does it come with a stereo earpice for mp3 listening? The gx30 uses SD card but does it support mmc card aswell? Can you write files (such as fotos, videos and mp3s) directly to the card and then read them using the phone? Thanks a lot |

1. No cables included, but u can buy use an IR port to transfer photos and videos or a card reader to transfer MP3
2. No, ull need to buy an earpiece urself, i recommend the one for the NEC616 fone, it works perfectly, cost about £15 3. yes MMC is supported as well 4. Yes again, u store stuff onto ur card and the fone will just read it from there Hope that helps, anymore questions just ask! ![]() |

Additional Software
Can you install Java by copying files to the memory card using a card reader and installing on the handset from there ?
I've downloaded (and printed !!) the entire manual and it seems to infer you can only install applications via WAP. If this is the case, it's a lot less flexible than a Nokia but I looked at the GX30 in a Vodafone shop in London today and was wowed by the camera and the screen. |
