Oh man congrats with your new "wicked" device, you should write a review on that.
Anyway, since the chinese are still weak in design department, im still waiting for them to revamp universal's look like what the japanese have done to UX50(see below pic) ![]() Aint that fabulous for a 3G PDA phone! ![]() And its camera position and functionality for a Camera, Video call and plenty of room for Optical Zoom folded optic lense. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

HTC Hermes is very appealing IMHO. I'm really interested in getting a Qtek 9100 but the lack of 3G (no EDGE support on my network) and block/letterrecognizer on the Swedish version makes me wait for SE P990i instead.

I like to have a PDA with hard-disk, if not the PDA should have the possibility to turn off completely, b'cause turn on the flight mode is only close the phone function and not the PDA function. I'm using O2 mini and i'm glad to have it, but the news models have only some bonus, no big different, so in my opinion, when there r something very very special, i'll change my PDA.... LOL

Hermes is HSDPA phone check out the spec on top of this page.
Even in most site confirmed it has for instance http://www.digitaltechnews.com/news/...se_htc_he.html But HTC confirmed that their HSDPA phones will only be shipped in H2 2006 http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/11...ms_hsdpa_plan/ |

chokia, I know the text you copyed and pasted states that is will/might have HSPDA, this is incorrect. The device which is being ranged and released by certain networks is a variant of Hermes and is based on the 3G chipset. The HSDPA devices do not apear on the roadmap until the end of the year.
So far HTC only have one 3G device on the market - The variants of the hermes will be the second to hit the market. Also you have to think - How many HSPDA networks will be live in H2 2006? What good are devices without networks and customer base to use them?? ![]() |

badger,
So many news Hermes with HSDPA, i wonder why you keep telling that it is without. And by the way I-mate will name it Imate JASJAM We know JAM stands for Jim Andrew Morrisson, CEO of imate ![]() Quote:

Nice indeed, in your quote the msmobile editor/writer also states that some people made pictures of the (tmobile version of) HTC Hermes. Where can I find them? I don't want those crummy old pictures from way back in november... |

Will the 300Mhz Samsung procesor mean that Skype for Pocket PC 2.0 will not run? Not sure about the new QWERTY.
The Fujitsu Seimens Loox T830 looks very attractive with built in GPS and 416Mhz processor. |

The keyboard looks like the same technology as on the Universal - which is good news. But the RAM is still not enough for WM5 - why plan a device knowing that it does not have sufficient user memory? The SE P990 will give the user 80MB while with HTC devices we get at most 30MB!

To quote my mate chokias post!
Q. Why does XDA II have more RAM memory than XDA Exec?
A. You shouldn't compare RAM across the different operating systems as they use RAM very differently. The difference is as follows; Windows Mobile 5.0 devices use RAM for running programs only. Windows Mobile 2002/2003 devices split RAM memory in half - between running programs and user data storage (emails, contacts, pictures, videos, Word documents etc.) So XDA II and XDA Exec use roughly the same amount of RAM for running programs. However XDA Exec stores user data in the Flash ROM memory, as part of the "persistant storage" feature of Windows Mobile 5.0. It should also be remembered that more RAM impacts battery consumption, so more RAM would require a larger battery. |

mweb6161 ,
I cant remember when i asked that LOL. Anyway, do you know that HTC's 2.0 megapixel camera module now improved? Even some said its comparable with K750i. People in PPCSG (www.ppcsg.com) are comparing 2.0mp cams in Atom (made by Quanta) and Dopod818pro / Imate Jamin. The later's cam produces way better images than the former, they even compare with K750i. My point is, Hermes can be a good consideration if you wish to have smaller, faster (its 3.5G=HSPDA + wifi-g) and better camera (2.1mp) than your pride possession O2 XDA EXEC. ![]() |

Also will 300Mhz Samsung processor make this device significantly faster than the Wizard? |

The 300 mhz proc is faster then a 416 Intel Xscale, so yeah, it will be fast enough for Skype.
The Hermes will be coming out in May/Juni by Tmobile at least in Europe. And it will be released (worldwide ?) by iMate and Qtec etc. in July. |

I hear the the front facia is customised by operator, keyboard is standard. Also the HSDPA firmware (some operators might release with HSDPA hardware and provide software upgrade later) wont be ready until late 2006/7...

WoW! Was so looking forward to the SE p990, but now the Hermes might even be release before it! I havent any experiences with any of the HTC devices so how does it compare to the build quality of a p910 e.g? Would the Hermes be a decent performer in the multimedia aspect? e.g watching tv shows and movies on the go? and what are the main differences in your opinion between symbian's UIQ and WM5???
Thank you! ![]() |
