  • Links to software, media, language packs, flashes/flexes, USB drivers for Windows 98 & XP, & additional how-to's (Section 14).

SUMMARY OF TROUBLESHOOTING

It seems apparent that the majority of problems encountered with getting the software to run are due to the following factors. Its always wise to be aware of the troubleshooting methods and procedures before one begins to install the software, and hence my reasons for stating them here at the beginning. More specific troubleshooting can be found in the sections on Mobile Phone Tools(MPT), Product Support Tool(PST), and P2k Manager(P2kMan).

ELIMINATE THE OBVIOUS
  • If you find that you can't connect to your phone, check that your USB cable is properly inserted into your phone. Very occassionally, it can come loose, and the connection becomes broken.
  • Unlikely as it may sound, rebooting your PC and/or removing the battery from your phone and putting it back again, often seem to work miracles when it comes to troubleshooting .

WINDOWS INCOMPATIBILITIES

Many of the applications don't seem to install or work well on the following:

Windows 95
Windows ME
Windows 2003 Server

HAVING THE CORRECT DRIVERS

Different versions of Windows and different phone's (may) require different versions of a particular driver. Although Windows and your MPT/PST/P2kMan installation directory often has its own drivers, they are not always the most up to date or the most suitable for your version of Windows (or phone, in some cases), so it may well be worth you while to use a more up to date and/or appropriate driver.

Windows 98 (if you are having problems, you could try downloading Windows 98 USB drivers from here)
Windows XP (if you are having problems, you could try downloading Windows XP USB drivers from here)

PHONE'S WITH TRANSFLASH MEMORY
  • You may have to remove your transflash to be able to use MIDway, PST, MPT, or P2kMan.
  • In your phone's menu, go to Main menu -> Settings -> Connection -> USB Settings. Change Default Connection to Data/Fax Connection.

CORRECT PROCEDURES FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE SOFTWARE

The correct procedures for the installation of the software can be found here:

Mobile Phone Tools(MPT).
Product Support Tool(PST).
P2k Manager(P2kMan).

These sections also contain useful information on troubleshooting the software too.

INCORRECTLY INSTALLED OR MISSING DEVICES

The sections on Drivers and Devices, Drivers, Devices, and the System Registry, and Drivers, Devices, and the Device Manager deal with these issues.

INCONSISTENCIES IN THE SYSTEM REGISTRY

This tends mainly to apply to the installation and running of PST or P2kMan and doesn't really apply to MPT. There is a useful registry 'fix' in the section on Devices, Drivers, and the System Registry. This also includes details of uninstalling the p2k devices that are installed for the working of PST and P2kMan, in order to make a fresh start if things go horribly wrong.
