If your 6630 is acting very weird or frequently encountered hang or restart issues. I have put together a simple HOW-TO procedure to help you overcome/savage/solve these issues.

NOTE: You will need your 6630, a CARD READER and a BLUETOOTH DONGLE for these tasks.

1) Access to your Contacts list>Options>Mark/Unmark>Mark all>Options>Copy>To memoey card.

2) Soft Reset your 6630 back to factory default. Press *#7370# and hit on YES.

3) With a card reader, copy those stuff you want from your mmc card to the desktop on your comp. i suggest IMAGES, SOUNDS/DIGITAL, OTHERS/CONTACTS and SYSTEM/APPS/DICTIONARY.

4) Use your 6630 to format. if your 6630 cannot format due to unknown reason, use your comp to format it (FAT + slow format), then use your 6630 to format it again.

5) Copy back the stuff from your desktop to your mmc, folder by folder.

6) Change your phone's name in Bluetooth. Pair it with your comp and set as authorised.

7) Bluetooth FExplorer to your 6630 and install it to your MMC.

8) With a card reader, drag all your app installation files into OTHERS/APPS for ease of reinstalling all your apps.

9) With a card reader, drag all your game installation files into OTHERS/GAMES for ease of reinstalling all your games.

10) With a card reader, drag all your theme installation files into OTHERS/THEMES for ease of reinstalling all your themes.

NOTE: Hard reset only apply when your keypad is not functioning.

1) OFF your 6630.

2) Press and hold "SEND" + "*" + "3" and turn ON your 6630.

3) Release after your screen flicker 1 time.

4) Check whether your Contacts list is still there. If not there, you have succeeded in hard reset.

Thanks for that, but in about 1 week of use my 6630 never hung or restarted on me (v2.39.15)

fatal,

6) and 7) are completely redundant, there is no need to use bluetooth at all unless you want to make it more complicated :)
Just install whatever you want straight from MMC, simply use your card reader to copy SIS-package somewhere on MMC

BTW, your "soft" and "hard" resets do exactly the same, the only diff is that you can still invoke "hard" reset (format user area actually) even if the does not boot at all.

Actually "send" is more appropriate name for that button (as well as "clear" for red button) since by that name it is referred on any mobile communication device and/or specifications.

:D Hoorah ,,, a fix for that stupid 6630 rebooting problem !!

Still yet to find out why I actually got this problem, but as I can
remember I was using Agile Messenger when my phone closed the program & back to the main menu (I had no other apps open), tried Agile Messenger again, closed after a few seconds.
Then shortly after tried to send a SMS text, immediately booted back to main
screen, odd, tried SMS again, it booted me back to main screen.

Thinking something was wrong I backed up my entire phone C:\ drive.

Rebooted & had lots of problems, phone rebooted and rebooted, finally got it
back up & running in 'Offline' mode (without a SIM in the phone), but
couldn't access my contacts or type in anything (a single press of the keys
rebooted the phone).
Searching on the net I discovered my symptoms to be similar to the GAVNO
virus:

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?ContentId=3968

and a cure using an anti-virus program:
http://mobiletech.softwarecellulari.it/shop/eng_DettaglioArticolo.asp?ID_ART
=4189

not wanting to part with cash for an AV program just yet & some spare time
on my hands I messed around with the files on the phone to attempt to fix
the problem.

Perhaps I don't actually have this GAVNO virus on my phone, or maybe I do,
but basically the fix for me was to delete ONE file on the phone:

c:\system\data\PTIT9UDB0F.DAT

immediately after this file was deleted everything worked again.
Tried rebooting to see if the .DAT file came back, hoorah it didn't, still working, now after 4 reboots all seems well. Bluetooth working fine, contacts, text, booting up is back to normal, everything so far works perfect again. :D
Even Agile Messenger works perfect again now.

Not sure if this will be the cure for all 6630's, perhaps the GAVNO virus
copies itself to different locations/filenames to confuse.

To discover the problem I ran a full backup using SpriteBackup
(which obviously would also backup & include the rogue .DAT file), then I
tediously removed file-by-file until the contacts list came back up. Once
discovered I restored from backup & messed around again with things until I
pinpointed the exact file(s) causing the problem, luckily it just appeared
to be one rogue .DAT file.

I've seen many posts on this problem, unsure if it will work for anyone else

(remember to make a full backup before doing anything),

Hope this advice helps,

DB

c:\system\data\PTIT9UDB0F.DAT

This file has nothing to do with virus, it is in fact your T9 dictionary database.
Your symptoms indicate that this file is likely has been corrupted, so simple removal fixes your problem, but very existance of that file does not mean that you have a virus or any problems at all. It will be recreated once you add a word to T9 user dictionary.

What firmware version you guys have on your 6630? If you want to have that "rebooting" problem totally solve, get your phone flashed to V 2.39.15 (11-11-04).

Hey, you're right, the c:\system\data\PTIT9UDB0F.DAT has come back, but I don't have any reboot problems now ?
After a quick backup I deleted the file, and later discovered that the file has returned. It doesn't seem to do any damage, how odd that it seemed this file was causing the problem ?!

At the time I can remember using Agile Messenger, was in a 3G network area, I got disconnected & noticed I was in a non 3G area. I then tried to send a text & got booted back to the main, menu, went into contacts & also got booted back to main menu. Powered off & just couldn't power back on again without the Nokia logo flashing on & fading away.
Once I took my t-mobile SIM card out I could at least boot-up in Offline/flight mode, but a press of any numberic button just reset the phone again.

Perhaps the c:\system\data\PTIT9UDB0F.DAT isn't the problem & deleting this just swerves around the main cause of this prob, but hey it fixed it for me & perhaps I've lost some added disctionary items but so far all runs good on the phone, who knows what else I'll discover after playing around. My only strong advice to anyone is to make regular backups

Has anyone else fixed their rebooting problems ?

By deleting T9 database you can actually solve the problem of non-operational phone, because that file is corrupted and causes all nasty effects you so eloquently described. However it does not fix original cause what led to corruption, so it might come back.
That problem does not seem to happen with 3.45.112 and later

T9 issue has nothing to do with BT, even if you delete half of the "system" folder's content it won't help you.
Don't try whatever you find in the Internet, apply ONLY what is relevant to your problems... otherwise you'll be the one who render your phone dead or useless

I am using firmware 3.45.110. I was having a problem with my 6630 restarting. I did a hard reset and the phone has started working again. However, now my memory card no longer works. Even though the card is in the phone, it won't pick it up! Help me!

fully agree. no point rendering yr own phone useless, as nokia and orange will swoop with joy at sucking you dry and makign you pay for repairs.

my phone has problems such as not getting into contact list, and not sending SMS, and also problems such as not being allowed to tranfer files from PC to phone and simcard failure occuring twice in 1 week. so i doubt the above solution will solve everything. and i wouldnt want nokia engineers coming back to me saying i gotta pay for messing up files

Yesterday I went to Nokia and got the latest FW for N6630:v3.45 113 04-01-05 RM-1.Now occasional restarts (once in last 36hrs),particularly when I use BT headset(HDW-3).
I think rebooting is an UNENDING problem with N6630.GOK.

I think I'm going to stick with firmware V.2.39.15 (11-11-04) for a longtime bcoz so far........no problem at all! I also use BT most of the time and never had any problem with it too. I'm sure that the other guys out there using the same firmware can attest to my claim.

I actually want to reboot my 6630. I have a dual sim card and want to find a code that will restart the phone so that i can flick between the sim cards. This is quicker than turning it off and then turning it back on again.

on my 7650 i used to activate EFR by pressing *3370# and the phone would reboot. On my 6230 i used to key *#7220# but these codes dont work on the 6630.

Can anybody help?

Due to architectural differences I seriously doubt that reset would be any faster than off/on cycle.

Why don't you use any SIM app for that? That would be the most appropriate way to generate reset.

If not there, you have succeeded in hard reset.

does this trick work, when you get attacked by viruses???
